Extremely professional and wonderful staff. They took great care of us from the beginning till the end. We had all our concerns about our eyes answered and was even given next steps and recommendations for the future. Dr. Phan was extremely knowledgeable and broke everything down into bite sized pieces for us to understand. She was extremely personable and took care of my whole family. Bonus points that her office had a small wheeled cart with toys to entertain kids. Every parent knows how difficult it is to keep your kids entertained at the doctor's office. They get bored easily and want to touch all the equipment but here our toddler was able to keep entertained by the puzzles and blocks from the cart. In January, I purchased glasses for myself and my mother without any major issues. The experience was acceptable, although I found the doctor a bit abrupt during the eye exam if responses were not simply "yes" or "no." However, the customer service was very pleasant at that time. But recently, when I called to inquire about a charge for reading glasses that seemed excessively high compared to online prices, the experience took a turn for the worse. The representative I spoke with could not find my order. He was very kind at first, but when we both failed to realize that I had called the wrong location, I became frustrated. However, I never reached the point of being condescending, which they accused me of, and then put the call on intercom for the coworkers to hear. I think they were hoping for a TikTok "woke Karen" kind of moment. Once I figured out my mistake, I apologized, but the representative did not offer an apology in return for their immaturity. P.S. Condescending would be defined as someone at the other location thinking I was a dumb, rich blonde that can be taken for an extra $150 for reading glasses. We will deal with her in the next review I post. read more

Was having some blurry vision & so I thought "no problem, I'll just drop by my last optometrist." (I'd changed my insurance in April) They don't take my new insurance (VSP). Two more dentists that I was referred to by friends didn't take it either. I started worrying about my insurance -- was it no good?? Would I find any decent optometrists on it? I found Dr Kamnetz's office on my insurance website (VSP). Had no idea what to expect & was pleasantly surprised all around. The staff was very helpful and efficient -- made an appointment VERY last-minute for me on the phone (for 15 minutes later!) Dr Kamnetz was friendly, gracious and explained everything in great detail. He outlined my options (not great ones, at my age, but he was honest!) P.S. After leaving the office with a prescription in hand for some drops to use for "a few days", I was FLOORED by the cost. Over $100. I went back to the office to see if there was another formula or treatment. He gave me a sample of the drops that lasted the length of time I needed them. Grateful, but it would have been nice if he'd given them to me to begin with. Maybe, on Bee Caves, he's used to rich clients who wouldn't bat an eye, but I almost passed out! He should have at least discussed the cost with me. :( read more

OH MY GOD! THAT GUY ALMOST JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE ROAD! Passenger: Uh, Stephen, that is a mailbox... Me: Oh. Well....it looked like a person. Enter TSO. I worked in the medical field for three years as a pharmacy tech. As such, I trust no one and feel I know more about my body than any quack eye doctor possibly could... These guys were great however. The staff got me checked in fast and the doctor answered all of my questions in a way I could understand. Place was comfortable and had me in and out in less than 30 minutes with my prescription and all the tests I've been avoiding since my last eye doctor appointment 10 years ago. Very chill, positive environment, will be back when insurance will let me purchase another set of glasses. read more

I always have good luck in getting a same day appointment when I need it and everyone is helpful and friendly. I had some issues where I was given 2 boxes of the same prescription of contacts (I needed two different sets) - and they fixed the problem quickly and let me keep the extra unopened box. My ONLY issue - which is why they lost a star - is that I have never had luck finding a pair of frames that look good on me here. They DO have a large selection, but I'm ultra picky and have yet to find the perfect selection of frames in town. (Other than Eclectic Eyewear - but they don't accept VSP.) read more

The office staff were incredibly helpful and rearranged one of our two appointments to an earlier spot without a murmur. On arrival Melissa was very helpful with the insurance questions. Hannah did a great job with the initial tests and when she needed help with one test deferred to Elton, he was very calm and clearly a good mentor. Kudos to Hannah reaching out for assistance when she needed it and Elton for responding in such a gracious manner. Dr Kamnetz was very professional, very patient and explained everything simply but effectively. Frankly this was my first eye appt in the US where I felt that I was being seen by a professional that took pride in his field and cared about his patients. After the eye exam I picked out a couple of frames, Melissa helped me compare and picked out something even lighter and very practical for my needs. When I looked at the price tag I found it was lower than the set I had selected myself. The staff at TSO Westlake care about what you need, what works for you and not the price tag. With such good service I was fully prepared to deal with a wait for a few days for my new spectacles. It seemed worth the inconvenience for such good service, instead Melissa told me I could have my new glasses within 24 hours. In fact she beat her own estimate, Melissa called me four hours later to tell me everything was ready. I guarantee I came away with better quality glasses at a price much less than the 'Eye Doc in a box' at the mall. The office staff were lovely and Dr Kamnetz was superb. So glad I took the advice of a friend to visit TSO Westlake. read more

Great experience. Doctor's appointment: Everyone with whom I interacted was super. Erika, who ran the tests, shared my glee at scoring 100% on the peripheral vision test and was patient with me when running the dreaded "puff air in your eyes to test you for glaucoma" machine. God I hate that thing. Dr. Kamnetz was friendly and warm, and really took his time, walking me through the results of the tests to make sure I understood everything - something no other optometrist has ever done before (shame on me for not asking the others, but Dr. Kamnetz did this as a matter of course). His examination was thorough and it turns out that my prescription really hasn't changed enough to warrant me getting new glasses, which is sad because... Frames: I found a large selection of good frames here. I was really pleased to find several glasses frames that met my needs (understated rimless but with a little bit of bling) and the perfect sunglass frames (supercool bug-eye awesomeness). Stefan helped me out especially by figuring out which frames would work best given my prescription (obv before I realized I wouldn't be getting new glasses), and Melissa helped me make the crucial call between two supercool options. The location itself is nice, parking is easy peasey, and they take my insurance (VSP) and it seems most others. So yeah. It's a win. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kamnetz for over 15 years and he is great. My parents also see him. My last visit was great with him, however the staff was horrible!!!! My 2 year old son was being watched by my mother while I was looking at frames. He grabbed a little plastic stool and was moving it around with the supervision of my mother, he was not being disruptive by any means. Suddenly the staff member Tasha walks over and very rudely pulls the stool from my baby saying "this is new floor and you are going to scratch it" my son started crying. I understand that we as parents have to watch our children, but she went above and beyond for a 2 year old kid that was not doing anything wrong. Extremely inappropriate and rude. I probably paid for that floor with my many years of seeing them. I loved that office and the staff had always been so great, but this was just unnecessary and rude. read more

I recently became a VSP member and since this place accepts this type of insurance and is close to my work, I decided to come here for my annual eye exam. The staff was friendly enough and I think they did an adequate job of figuring out what my new prescription was, but the only complaint I have is that it takes FOREVER for ordered contacts to come in. Since my VSP pays for contact boxes, I had ordered 4 boxes and it literally took 3 weeks! I have never waited so long for contacts before and next time I think I'll just order my contacts online. It's cheaper and I can get it the next day. read more

I love TSO! I was in the market for some frames and had been to 5 other stores that accepted VSP and couldn't find the right pair. I went into TSO and was blown away with their selection, they have everything. For the next hour I had so much fun trying on frames and felt I could be very selective and take my time, and Elton was very helpful, I felt like I was shopping for glasses with a friend. I had to make an appointment with TSO after falling asleep in my contacts and waking up with the angriest eye I've ever seen. I was so relieved to find out they were open until 6 on Saturday and were able to see me same-day. The front desk staff were very personable and engaging. Dr. Pourrier was fantastic. She quickly put me at ease and didn't try to shame me for sleeping in my contacts (although she did make me agree to never do it again, haha, which wasn't very difficult). It was very clean and comfortable. The entire staff was friendly and personable. I'm giving them 5 stars because I generally do not like medical office environments, but this will be my new eye care provider. read more

Despite being in an old scrubby looking business strip, this place is really nice. Beautiful inside with quite a large selection of glasses in different price brackets. Warm, inviting staff that acknowledged me despite being busy. They are organized and efficient. I liked my Dr. (Forgot his name) because he was very practical in helping me decide what type of contacts I need for my lifestyle (not the old days where there were only soft and hard!) I highly recommend TSO and Dr. Kamnetz specifically! It was easy to get an appointment and everyone was extremely friendly and professional. The appointment itself was relaxed but very thorough, and I liked that rather than just going through the tests Dr. Kamnetz took time to explain the results afterwards and what each test was looking for. The staff was very knowledgeable as well. I recently switched insurance companies and they were very patient in walking me through what was covered in order to find the best options for me. I've been to other offices and felt like I was being sold/upsold the whole time, but here they were simply helpful and respectful of what I was looking for. I'll definitely be back :) read more

AWFUL AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!! I have been going to the TSO branches for years now. I just moved to Austin and found this one. I will never go back to this place. The staff are extremely rude and unprofessional, they act like you are bothering them. I finally ordered my new glasses and they tried to give me the frames that everyone tries on! The only reason I noticed was because when I went to pick them up they were already scratched and that is when she told me that she'd have to order new ones if I wanted new ones. Who doesn't want unused glasses?!?! On top of it all. Since getting my new prescription my vision has gotten worse! I found a different TSO on 39th street and they are amazing, he re-did my eye exam, which the prescription wasn't right, and fixed them for free. DO NO WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE. I've been a long-time patient of Dr. Kamnetz's and he and his staff are always helpful and attentive. At my last visit, I was able to come in the same day I called. They are very clear about financial obligations - especially when it comes to what is covered by insurance and what is not. I really appreciate that. The phrase "latest technology" sounds kind of cheesy, but the fact of the matter is that their imaging tech really is very new and it allows Dr. Kamnetz to see the whole retina area at the back of the eye, which is important in checking its health, and now they have imaging technology that allows for a view through the layers of the eye, like looking down at tree rings at the edge of a tree trunk. The only reason I know this is because Dr. Kamnetz takes the time to walk you through the images of your own eye and explain to you what the different areas of light, dark, and color mean. It's awesome. He also has a very easy-going manner, which is obviously reflected in his staff. Overall, they seem happy to be working in their field and it makes all the difference in their customer service. I like to go to places that inform me not just about the state of my health, but give me some education as to what the heck it all means. You'll walk out of the office with a better understanding of your eyes and what you can do to keep them healthy. read more

I was so surprised and pleased when my frames and lenses were replaced free of charge because of the one year guarantee. For Pete's sake, it was my own fault - stepped on them when I was gardening. No problem, new glasses in 4 days. Happy customer. A slightly more stylish selection of frames would get them 5 stars. I do use my own opthalmologist. read more

As a returning patient at TSO Westlake, I was incredibly disappointed with my experience with all individuals that I have encountered working at the front desk. While Dr. Kamnetz is great, it has been such a complete nightmare trying to deal with anyone in the office that I can't bring myself to go back. For example: I ordered and paid for contacts at the end of my visit and weeks later I had never heard back. I finally went in to ask about it, when I learn that they never ordered my contacts in the first place. No one was apologetic, or even remotely helpful. Then I was told that they would come in within a few days. I called back a few weeks later and they still weren't in, and the person that I spoke with was far from helpful. I waited a few more weeks, so as not to be unrealistic in my expectations for delivery, and they tell me that they have been in for almost a month. I never received any kind of notification about it. Considering the only reason that I need to go into this office is to get contacts, it is incredibly frustrating for the process to be this difficult and those handling it to be so rude. I would definitely not recommend this office. read more
