I was referred to this office to see Dr. Wolf after being diagnosed with keratoconus while exploring LASIK surgery. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for patient-centered care, clear answers, or a respectful experience. From the front desk to the clinical visit, the tone of the office felt dismissive and rushed. The receptionist was not welcoming, and the experience with Dr. Wolf and his technician did not improve from there. During the exam process, the technician repeatedly touched my eyes in a way that felt rough and careless, which made an already stressful appointment more uncomfortable. My biggest concern was the way my questions were handled. I asked detailed questions about how "medical necessity" is determined, especially since the proposed treatment involved significant professional service fees in addition to the cost of custom contact lenses. Rather than explaining the process clearly, Dr. Wolf repeatedly interrupted me, talked over me, and seemed impatient with my questions. The most concerning moment came when I asked what my visual acuity was without glasses, after multiple scans and vision tests. Dr. Wolf responded, "WHO CARES?" I was stunned and said, "I care. They are my eyes." He then told me that they did not care about that measurement, and that they only cared about my corrected vision and whether insurance would cover the costs. That exchange made me feel like my understanding of my own eye health was not important to this office. I left feeling dismissed, talked down to, and pressured rather than educated. I decided not to move forward with care there and will not return. read more

I searched my BCBS provider list and saw Austin Optometry was a "preferred" $25 copay provider. Called, confirmed preferred status, then scheduled routine eye exam and provided all my insurance information. Got a call back a week later from their office stating they didn't have my insurance information on file so I provided it AGAIN and reconfirmed their "preferred" provider copay. I arrived for my appointment on time, checked in, and began exam. A few tests they conducted seemed different than what other doctors have done in the past, but figured things modernize. Overall the testing staff and doctor were friendly/professional. When I go to check out and they say I owe $120+. I say, aren't you a preferred provider? I confirmed it twice on the phone - it is why I chose to come to you. They said, "oh, let us check that. oh, ok, in that case you owe $86." I asked why its not $25 and they said, "oh, we do additional exams beyond the standard eye exams. Didn't we tell you this when you made your appointment or arrived?" I said no, not the first time I called, not the second time you called me back, and definitely not when I arrived. They apologized for their "oversight" but insisted I still owed the $86 since the services were rendered. Interestingly, they never even processed the "additional exams" with my insurance so BCBS couldn't assist me either.  I would NOT recommend them for this reason. read more

Receptionist is rude and not helpful at all. My appointment with Dr. Wolfe was okay. Not going back.

I have had an amazing experience with Dr. Wolf and the entire staff at Austin Optometry Group. I am very myopic and astigmatic, which rules me out a candidate for Lasik and severely limits my options for soft lenses. I endured years of frustration with my most recent brand of contacts. My quality of life has drastically improved since being fitted for scleral lenses by Dr. Wolf. I had multiple appointments where he continued to adjust the fit and prescription and reorder the lenses under warranty. With the latest pair I can now see perfectly and my eyes are very comfortable in the lenses! After decades of feeling like my high maintenance eyes were being treated the same as everyone else's, I finally feel like they got the custom care and attention needed to achieve the best vision and quality of life possible. If you are on the fence about scleral lenses in general, I can't say enough good things about them! My vision with them is 20/20 - probably for the first time since I was probably 4 or 5 years old, they don't rotate (a problem for astigmatics and soft lenses) so I don't have to keep poking my eyes or blinking to adjust them, they don't dry out even when flying, and my eyes are less dry in general. My soft lenses tore so easily, including tearing in my eye one time requiring a doctor to remove a piece from under my eyelid - I love that I don't have to worry about that with the sclerals. And they are very comfortable - not like a traditional hard lens! read more

I've never really had a problem here until this year, I'm not really sure what's going on but it's very disappointing. I've been a lifelong customer here, I miss seeing dr Bob joe. Dr Wolf is great too. I'm feeling very scammed right now though. I came in January for new glasses and the office visit itself was fine, i saw dr Wolf and I picked out new frames and the person in charge of the glasses sat down with me and went through the potential upgrades for lenses. She specifically told me I was getting anti scratch/scratch resistant lenses, it was the only upgrade I could afford to get, I remember it so clearly. It took a really long time to get my glasses, like almost a month, but to be fair she said the first frames came with a crack so she had to reorder them. I actually went and got the cracked frames because i really needed to be able to see, and when the new, undamaged frames came in I went by and she popped the lenses over into those for me. So that's fine. But within a couple of weeks there was a scratch directly over my iris on the left lens and it's been driving me insane. Ive been keeping it in the case as well so it's very frustrating. I've just called and they told me that I did NOT purchase the scratch resistant lenses. So that really sucks. Im left now with scratched lenses and how long will it be before I can get new ones again? Or at least a new left lens? I just feel so cheated and my feelings are hurt and I feel stupid and I'm sad. It's almost my birthday too like this is just so disappointing man :( I didn't even ask if they'd replace it because the answer is probably no or yes for extra hundreds of dollars i don't have. I'm so so so bummed ughhh read more

This practice is changing of the guard. The senior doctor has retired but he has found two terrific professionals to carry the torch. Dr Aaron Wolf and Dr Laura Morath are pleasant attractive people who obviously understand customer service and have an excellent cast of staff to make this experience as easy and comfortable as possible. As a medical health provider myself I understand efficient professional excellence. I'll be a part of this practice until I don't need to see anymore. I hope that is a very long time. read more

Dr. Wolf is the best. I've been following him to different practices for many years. This office has top-of-the-line features. I always come here when I'm in town for my annual eye appointment read more

The service and safety protocols of the staff and Dr. Wolf were amazing and I felt very safe - we washed hands, cleaned surfaces, wore masks and worked quickly with only one person at a time in the clinic - I love Concierge style dentists and opthalmologists. Every step of the way very carefully curated and customized to me. read more

Moved to Austin 2.5 years ago and started going to AOG about one year ago ... Due to COVID, I was nervous about going to the doctors but I had a great experience at AOG, the techs were welcoming and got me cleared to come in right away. They require face masks (have some for sale if you forget yours!), took my temperature, had me wash my hands, and disinfected everything right in front of me! Dr. Wolf was great - very thorough and comprehensive exam. He answered all of my questions. I got Lasik last year so I was a bit sad that I couldn't buy any prescription frames (their selection is great!) but AOG's optician did help me find the perfect pair of sunglasses last summer. Dr. Wolf also recommended I get fish oil to help with some dry eye issues and I was pleasantly surprised when I left my appointment and immediately had an email waiting for me with a link to their virtual store which sells fish oil - easiest transaction ever and was able to order before I forgot! read more

While the visit started off rocky, given the fact that it was the first day of a second doctor working, it got better. Despite the fact that I arrived before another patient scheduled for the same time, the other patient was taken back first and I've been waiting more than 15 minutes before my appointment can even start. I understand that only one patient can go back at a time due to the pandemic, buit would have been better had they scheduled the appointments to accommodate that. Once the tech took me back, she went quickly and I liked the new doctor. read more

I really like Dr. Aaron Wolf. We recently moved here from Houston. I originally went to him for contacts and he did a great job of fitting them. A few months later I had a vision loss on a weekend and he was concerned enough to meet me at his office on a Sunday. I had a problem with a cornea implant from several years ago. He got me into to see a cornea specialist the next day. He is very patient and spends a lot of time explaining the various tests and results when I visit. I highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Chhean O.D. and her assistant gave me one of the most thorough eye exams that I've ever had. Service was polite, efficient, and knowledgeable. The equipment is more up-to-date than the equipment of two other local eye doctors that I saw in the past two years. I chose my eyeglasses here too. I'm not fussy about glasses, so others may find the selection limited, but I'm happy with my choice. read more

I went to Austin Optometry Group only to purchase frames and lenses after obtaining a prescription elsewhere. I was happy to learn they accept VSP insurance. They have a lovely and cool selection of frames and the staff was extremely helpful in assisting me in making a choice. It's a small shop and is quite charming. But the real gem of this place is Jim, who is in charge of ordering and fitting the eyewear. When I first received my glasses, I could not see out of them (through no fault of Austin Optometry Group). It turned out that my prescription (obtained from a doctor unaffiliated with Austin Optometry Group) was completely wrong. Jim was absolutely wonderful; he told me that if I was able to obtain a new prescription, he would order new lenses AT NO CHARGE. And he kept his word on that. Moreover, Jim was always available when I called and made a concerted effort to ensure that I was happy. Fortunately, I received a new prescription and promptly received my new lenses from Jim and Austin Optometry Group. And they are fantastic! Not only can I actually see now, but my frames look beautiful. What made the difference for me, however, was the fabulous customer service that I received from Jim. I will definitely be going back to Austin Optometry Group when I need new glasses again - and, of course, will ask for Jim. read more

I have a fairly rare and difficult to treat eye condition (keratoconus). Dr. Chhean has been working with me for a couple of years now, and has been incredibly patient and thorough. I initially went in for Synergeyes hybrid lenses, which require a somewhat iterative process and a lot of tweaking. We went through about a half dozen different pairs in the process of finding the best comfort/vision. She seems un-rushed and quite willing to explain everything in detail. Definitely one of the best optometrists I've been to, and I've been to a lot of them. read more

Dr. Joe is the best, and the entire staff works hard to get you exactly what you need!

I've been going to see Dr. Wolf over the last few years and have always had a great experience! Would highly recommend to everyone!

I had RK surgery in my left eye twenty some years ago, and my vision has been poor ever since. Especially at night. Dr. Chhean fitted me with Synergize hybrid contacts, in March, 2014 and my vision is great. Starburst effects at night are totally eliminated and my vision is crisp and clear. Something that I have not had for many years. It is a constant joy to me. . She has also helped me with my dry eye condition and I couldn't be happier. read more

I would like to give Neng Chhean, O.D. a good review because I liked her very much; however, the office staff was snippy when I showed my SHOCK at the price for a contact lens fitting - $303!!! Initially I was told the cost of the fitting would be $110, but AFTER the full exam, the assistant came in to tell me it would be $303 for multi-focal lenses. Also, when filling out the initial paperwork, I specifically wrote on the form that I must approve of any additional costs (tests), but I was never informed until checkout that I owed an extra $60. Needless to say, I left the office without the lens fitting (I paid the $60 even though I should not have). I did find a fine doctor that afternoon who does MULTI-FOCAL contact lens fittings for $80. I would like to add that the optician (who sells and fits the eyeglasses) is very nice and does a fine job. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Chhean for over two years and she is fabulous. She's so warm, friendly, and very thorough. She alerted me to a problem with my cornea and found a highly regarded specialist in Houston to perform the surgery. She has called to follow up and see how I'm doing and has been very supportive of me post-op. When I wanted to get glasses after the surgery she encouraged me to wait till my vision stabilized, saying it would change hourly anyway. I appreciated her honesty. Her assistants are all terrific, and Dr. Bob Joe is terrific as well. Jim in their eyeglasses department is wonderful, always helping me find affordable frames. Highly recommend these folks!! read more

Well I think we can all agree that looking for a new doctor can be, at the very least, a nerve racking experience. We all just seem to want and need so much from our health care professionals that they unfortunately rarely live up to our lofty expectations. Fortunately there are those that still deliver. The offices of Dr. Bob Joe & Associates is one of these few gems you rarely find and you certainly keep hold of. The entire experience blew me away. My appointment with Dr. Chhean was clinical, informative, and somehow, at the same time, relaxed. The office seems to strive to create an atmosphere of professionalism that really sets a patient at ease wither you are there for a routine eye exam or something slightly more serious. One gets the feeling they are there to provide eye care rather than sale you a pair of glasses. Thank you Dr. Chhean, I'm looking forward to seeing you next year. (BTW Young Austin... Dr. Chhean is pretty cute and I couldn't see a ring.) read more

I can't even begin to express how disappointed I've been in my experience with this practice. I found them through my new vision insurance site, and what was supposed to be a simple yearly visit to update my contact prescription turned into months of dealing with more and more charges, orders taking sometimes 5 weeks to come in, and some of the rudest staff. Dr Chhean is very nice, but is hardly ever in the office, making it impossible to be seen for the endless follow up visits to check the contact fits. She is also soon leaving the practice, which doesn't surprise me since everyone else in the office is snippy and patronizing toward patients. This practice charges more than any other one I've ever been to, and there is always more fees they find to charge me even though at first I initially paid a $300 fee just to have them fit me for contacts. I have now paid them a total of almost $1000 and still have not been fitted with the "right" contacts. I'm in total shock as to how this practice is still open with how shady it is. read more
