So, I am considering LASIK and have been visiting three different offices for comparison shopping. I want to see the staff, equipment, evaluate the equipment used and listen to what they have to say. I completed my three visits including eye test and eye dilation for each. Result for Eye LASIK Austin.... while the staff were friendly and they welcomed me by name, that was great and made me feel important. However, from there it seemed very automated and impersonal really. You had to watch a bunch of videos about 8 of them for 15 minutes. This would have been better coming from a live person to answer questions along the way. Then when the video is over a staff member comes in and basically tells you the same stuff, like you just slept thru the previous 15 minutes of videos. So, once this was done he talks price. When I made the appointment for the eye consultation I watched a 12 minute video (yes another video) that supposedly qualified me for a $2000 discount. Now here comes the deal... they say the basic cost for LASIK is $6400 and because I watched their promotional video my cost would be $4400. Hmmm The national average for LASIK is (blade-less wavefront tech) is $2300 per eye. So in the end their prices are over charged prior to applying their promotional discount. I waffled on whether or not to get LASIK for a full two years. Finally, after relocating from DC to Austin, my new eye doctor recommend Eye LASIK Austin and I figured I'd at least have an initial consultation. Eye LASIK Austin runs like a well-oiled machine. The initial consultation covered all my questions in video form, so I could watch and rewatch the bits I was most curious/concerned about and not feel bad about asking a person to repeat themselves. I had a consultation at Eye LASIK a few weeks ago. Eye LASIK has a complicated pricing system and was a rather bland experience. The staff seems to rely on you watching 9 videos (no kidding, NINE) on an iPad and then offering you all their "specials". Felt a little scamy. They have a Groupon. Don't buy it. The receptionist advised me to do so, before my consultation. No refunds. I just lost $80! Eye Lasik did not apologize and told me that their staff would never tell me to buy it. Also, during my consultation the employee told me that they will offer me that deal WITHOUT purchasing the Groupon. "Just mention that you saw it and we will give you the deal". What?! You do NOT even meet with a surgeon during your consultation. I would strongly recommend shopping around before choosing a place for your surgery. Don't get sucked into the "specials" that Eye Lasik has to offer. It's crap. I'm very happy I went with **Austin Eye** for my surgery. Austin Eye was professional, upfront with the pricing and everyone was very knowledgable about the entire process. Had a very poor experience with the front desk team, who inflated the price of the surgery to $6000, then told me they could reduce it to $4600 if I purchased a Groupon. I called back and advised then that there were no active Groupons available and they said "that's okay, we can just drop the price because you mentioned it." Really?? Ended up having my surgery at another place (Dr. Wong) where they quoted me $4800 up front, no shady business at all. A friend mentioned someone asking for recommendations and she told her about my experience here, but I figured it might be a good idea to let the rest of you in on how I feel about it 4 years later! I have had zero issues since my surgery. Vision is still clear! I will say the warning about "halos" around headlights is a pretty good indication of the worst side affect I've experienced. Just on my 2nd week after my LASIK surgery done at this center. The facilities are well maintained and nicely outfitted. The staff are cordial and knowledgeable. I'm here to add another five star review for Eye LASIK Austin. I had the procedure done over two months ago, and now I'm enjoying not wearing glasses or contacts during the summer heat and allergy season shenanigans. I was scared to get lasik because it is a truly terrifying prospect to get surgery on one's eyes. I took a lot of comfort in the efficient, procedural, and kind way I was treated at Eye Lasik (I asked a lot of stupid questions and was not made fun of). It was clear that the staff knows what they are doing, and they do a ton of successful surgeries all the time. They tell you everything that is going to happen in advance, more than once if necessary, and then it all unfolds like they say. After some healing time, during which you can make whoever is around get you things and make you food, you can wake up in the morning on a camping trip without worrying about glasses or contacts in the woods, or you can stay up late and not have to go to bed because your contacts are dry and sucking your eyeballs out of your head, and you can go water skiing without losing one of your contacts and having to wink at everybody the rest of the day, etc. No more sore spots on your nose where glasses dig in. It's expensive, but I would pay double for being able to see all the time. read more

I had the i-LASIK procedure done yesterday, and WOW! today I can see like I am wearing my contacts...this after 40 (yes 40) years of glasses & contacts. There is no pain and really no discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Walters and his staff calmly talk to you as they go through each step, and in about 15 minutes you are completely through and walking out the door. My husband watched the entire procedure through the glass and he thought is was fascinating. It is more like an eye exam than surgery. You go home and keep your eyes closed for about another 7-8 hours, I just napped, and there is a bit of discomfort, but not really anything to complain about. When the numbing drops wear off you have about an hour of feeling like you got soap in your eyes, but it literally goes away like they say it does, and then that's about it. I had mine done in the morning, and by evening I could see things in the distance fairly clearly, but when I got up this morning, it was like I had new eyes. Dr. Walters and his staff are wonderful. They make sure you understand everything before the procedure, what is going to happen during the procedure, and what to do after the procedure. You feel calm & safe & confident. After taking several years to decide to have this done i wish i had done it sooner! read more

I had ASA/PRK (a LASIK alternative for people with certain impediments to traditional LASIK - in my case, thin corneas) at Eye LASIK Austin about three weeks ago to correct extreme nearsightedness. I was impressed by the modern, high-end equipment, the professionalism of the staff, and their thorough knowledge of the procedure. Everything went exactly as they explained. The surgery by Dr. Walters was extremely fast and only mildly uncomfortable. As the healing times for ASA/PRK are much longer than those for LASIK, my vision continues to improve. I'm now regularly able to read most of the 20/20 line on the eye chart, and it should only get better from here. I'm sure you can get cheaper laser eye surgery, but, with something this important, I think it'd be foolish to trust it to anyone but the best. read more

Good customer service, however I'm back in glasses less than two year later and have been disappointed with my experience overall. I was first concerned when I went for my final measurements before surgery and the technician took twice as long to measure my right eye as my left eye - that should have been a warning sign. Turns out that my right eye ultimately was in fact slightly under-corrected during surgery to the point where even after I should have been fully healed a few months after the procedure, I needed glass to drive. I have pretty annoying halos and glare at night or for example when watching white text on a black screen. Now I'm back in glasses full time with one eye at -.5 and the other -.75. When I went back to Eye Lasik Austin to ask about an enhancement, they agreed that one eye would still need correction but told me that their equipment had not detected the need for correction in the stronger eye, that it was probably just "dry." After months of eyedrops and fish oil, I still sensed that something was wrong and after checking with my optometrist, sure enough, his measurements showed that both eyes were in fact weaker than -.5 and should have been noted for correction. Now I'm just not confident in the ability of Eye Lasik Austin to accurately asses and correct my vision. Even if I were to go back for a "touch up" - I'm afraid that something will go wrong again leaving me with less cornea and further need for correction or that my halos will get worse. It really bums me out because they had such great reviews, but maybe if you have a stronger prescription (mine was about -6.5 in both eyes) this place is not for you. Now I'm just out the money (they won't respond to my request for a refund) and still have to keep paying for glasses. Perhaps I just have the worst luck, but I can't really recommend this place based on my experience. read more

I've been thinking about getting lasik for 2-3 years now and then I saw a deal on moolala and did a little research on these guys and Dr. Walters, I'm an interwebz geek and linux admin so of course I know how to do my research on things through the web. Grabbed the deal before it expired and started saving some cash up since the coupon itself didn't expire for almost a year. Finally got the money and went in for a consultation. After wearing glasses since I was in 3rd grade I was pretty stoked to finally get rid of them. The staff are very nice people and Dr. Walters was kind and explained what was going on during the procedure step by step. I felt no pain, pinch or other negative sensory experience. Once it was over I saw the "haziness" I was told about after (kind of like a halo effect) but was already able to read things from far away. Once I got home I slept a bit, slept some more, then some more, (it's advisable to just stay up the night before so you can sleep right after surgery is over). A day later, I feel great, a little dryness, I can't really stare at the computer for very long but I can function otherwise for the most part, I'm still a little sensitive and wearing sunglasses to go to my follow up visit and when I went to the store to pick up some extra eyedrops. I can't wait until my eyes have fully healed, I'd recommend this procedure and Eye Lasik Austin to anyone that would ask about it. read more

Quickly updating about a year post-procedure, and am happy to report that I'm still rocking 20/20 vision. I experienced dry eyes for probably a few months post procedure - not too serious, but needed drops a couple times a day for comfort. I still use them once or twice a day, most-needed first thing in the a.m. Halos for at least a few weeks, but not long enough to be notable (in fact, I mostly noticed that I didn't notice them anymore after awhile). Most notably, even after wearing significant correction for 30 years, there might be days or weeks at a time now where I don't even think about my vision, it's just a new fact of life that I can see well. I had LASIK about a month ago and couldn't be happier. The staff and the experience at Eye Lasik Austin was very pleasant. The actual procedure is amazingly fast. They walk you through each step and describe what you're experiencing exactly, which was really helpful to keep you relaxed. This place was recommended by my eye doc at Stars in your Eyes on Congress. I was very nervous going into this surgery (lasers cutting your eyes open?!), and during it. They talk you through it and it does not take long at all. I did have visible blood in my eyes for 2-3 weeks. Apparently that happens sometimes but not to everyone. It is a bruise, but since there isn't skin there it looks bright red. gross. didn't have any problems with pain or infection though. I could see perfectly on the first day, which is the best I could ask for from LASIK. It is now 5-6 months later, and I can still see perfectly! read more

It turned out to be a pretty good deal money-wise, and I had a great experience through the entire process. Eye LASIK Austin definitely has their routine down with regard to pre-appointments, surgery, and post-appointments. I felt well-prepped when going into the actual surgery, and it was over within a few minutes. I still see halos around lights at night, but I had that problem before the surgery and Eye LASIK Austin was very clear that LASIK would not fix that for me. My eyes also still get a bit dry depending on the light/humidity. Other than that, the results have been great! I got Lasik done at Eye Lasik Austin about 1.5 weeks ago and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is interested in the procedure! My husband got his Lasik done here about five years ago. I got to watch them do his surgery; it went perfectly and he still has 20/15 vision! So that obviously made me less nervous about the whole thing. But the staff at Eye Lasik Austin also helped in that respect. They explain the science behind the procedure in an informative but not overwhelming way and they were very patient with my millions of questions. The procedure itself was totally painless and the doctor and assistant talk you through everything that's happening, which helped eliminate some of my nerves. The surgery was definitely mentally taxing, because you are aware of everything that is going on, but it was very short. It took 15 minutes max to do both of my eyes. One thing I would note is that you can smell the laser while it is doing it's work, and the burning smell is certainly a little unsettling. My husband forewarned me about this so I was expecting it, but I feel like that is something they should probably tell all of the patients beforehand so you aren't freaking out when you smell it. After it was over, I took some Nyquil at 4pm and slept until 8:30 the next morning! So not only did I get an excuse to get an AWESOME nights sleep, when I woke up, I could see everything!! As someone who has had HORRIBLE vision since the 2nd grade, this was very exciting!! I have had two post-op appts since and my vision is now 20/15! My eyes are a little dry every now and then, but nothing eye drops can't fix. As for the price, I found a Groupon that took 2k off the total cost. It is still a chunk of change, for sure, but I think it is worth the price. And honestly, if it was any cheaper than the few thousand I paid at Eye Lasik Austin, I would be concerned about the quality of the work.
