AVOID!!! I chose this eye doctor's office because it was conveniently located near my workplace. Unfortunately, what I expected to be a simple eye exam turned into a frustrating and unprofessional experience. When I booked my appointment, I specifically stated that I wanted **traditional pupil dilation**, not photo imaging. When I arrived for my 5pm appointment, I was told I had "signed up" for the $50 photo imaging instead -- which is **not covered by insurance**. I explained that I never agreed to this, but the staff told me that because I had a 5pm appointment, dilation would "run the doctor over schedule." That is not my responsibility, and it felt like pressure to accept an unnecessary upsell. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. The exam did not feel thorough, and I left feeling uncertain about the accuracy of my prescription. Sure enough, when I compared my results to last year's prescription, this year's exam claimed my vision had *improved* -- despite the fact that I came in specifically because my vision has felt worse. That raised major red flags about the quality of the exam. On top of this, the office aggressively pushed expensive add-ons -- from luxury frames costing thousands of dollars to lens upgrades -- which felt more like a sales floor than a medical practice. I later learned my coworker visited the same office the same day and had a similarly uncomfortable experience. We both work in the medical field, and we agreed this is not how patients should be treated. I called to speak with the manager afterward. No apology. No offer to re-check the exam. No attempt to resolve the situation. I've since spent over an hour on the phone with my insurance to arrange a second opinion elsewhere. If you're looking for patient-centered care and a thorough exam, I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

Went to get my eyesight tested, while the doctor did a good job the person after tried to pressure me into buying glasses immediately for an overpriced amount. I was supposed to return 2 weeks after my appointment to get contacts but were SOMEHOW unable to order them even after 2 months. It took another month of calling and threatening to file a complaint to receive my contacts prescription. Would not recommend to use them as the office is not very good read more

This boutique employee was so impatient and rude and couldn't wait until the system reset itself. They hounded me via text and email with decidedly bipolar language (we love you; you're doing everything wrong). DO NOT go here. My entire family goes here. Every year it is like they have never seen us before. A tad disappointing but that is fine as I think Dr. Katie is a good doctor. They do have more advance equipment to do the exam. There is an additional fee but for me I rather pay the fee than not be able to drive home after the exam. The tests are difficult for my father at 88 but the techs are always understanding. It is usually the one looking at the nerve in the back of the eye. There is also always a hard sales pitch at the end, but I am getting good at ignoring it. I do love the glasses I bought there but they can't really put updated lenses in the old frames and the cost of the frames there are too high. Especially if you are changing lenses every year. Dr Katie has also made good referrals to other doctors for things she does not do. My husband has to do some additional testing for a genetic condition. It is a convenient office for us as we live down the street off Bee Cave. It is clean and easy to park. We will keep going here. read more

See my negative experience below and note at how many reviews are made by limited content profiles. There are several reviews made by profiles that have limited content. Notice how many reviews that Yelp must take out of consideration since they were flagged. (See far bottom) They offered reimbursement of the $120 additional charges. I initially accepted assuming they have learn their fault, but they reached out again to ask me to take off the review on 11/23/16 before the refund will be initiated since they did not want my review to affect their other clients. Since other customers nor the success of their business has anything to do with my individual customer satisfaction, I am declining the refund and informed them that I will keep my word and update Yelp in accordance to the actual outcome. My friend recommended this place to me, so I thought it was going to be great. The eye exam went well. However, upon exiting, I felt there was quite heavy sales pressure. I told the associate that I really liked my old frames and asked if it was possible to have new lenses put into them. She inspected them and told me that IT WAS. She DID NOT advise me of ANY RISKS associated with cutting new lenses for old frames. I paid $175 for LENSES THAT DID NOT FIT MY GLASSES that were purchased in California. When I tried on the glasses that she handed me with her botched lenses there was horrible light being refracted from the entire top of the left lens. My eyes were freaking out. The sales associate, Lupita, assured me that it would "look strange at first but that my eyes would adjust to over time" and tried to send me on my way... When I looked closer, it became immediately apparent that they did not know how to use glass-cutting technology. THE LENS DID NOT physically FIT into my frames. I was astounded that they could not fit the lenses into my frames.They offered to try again and I allowed them to manipulate my frames. They were NOT willing to give me a refund. They were also not willing to let me take the lenses from the store to have another facility alter them. They offered to let me bring in other NEW frames, but the company no longer makes the frames that I have. I LOST ALL CONFIDENCE in their abilities at the frame shop and would NOT recommend anyone to go here. I was also terrified that they had messed up my prescription. 1st time visiting Westlake Eyecare. My doc was very knowledgeable and friendly but judging this office as a whole, I'd give it a 3 out of 5. I was pressured by the staff multiple times to buy new frames and a year worth of contacts after saying no thank you a few times. The persistence to upsell is not what I'm looking for when at an optometrist's office. I understand positioning products is important as a business but the repeated push to sell me what is clearly not a great fit (literally) is off putting. Since this is a once a year visit for me, I may not return to this office and will go to my old doc at Westlake Hills Vision Center where I can be in and out. read more

I came here last year and had a great experience. I loved the glasses I received and the attitude of the staff. Naturally, I wanted to return to this establishment. I came in on a Monday morning and was told that I HAVE to either get dilated and be unable to drive or work all day OR pay $50 to have my eyes checked by a machine. I've been going to the eye doctor since I was 7 years old. I've worked in an optometrist's office. I know that none of this is REQUIRED. Just recommended every year. Is now required? Fine. That's completely fine. But I felt bullied into having to pay $50 for an eye exam that looks for glaucoma or macular degeneration. Either that or be unable to drive home or be unable to work and have to take the day off without any notice. I took time out of my busy schedule to be seen by them. I will be looking for a different eye doctor and if you want an eye doctor who cares about your wants and needs and not making extra money by forcing you to do unnecessary exams I recommend you do the same. read more

I had a great experience with Westlake Eyecare. The ladies at the front desk are so sweet and I had Dr. Lechlitner and she was great! They answered all of my questions promptly, I didn't have to wait long, they are GREEN & have a cool little almost whiteboard eraser to sign documents (instead of wasting so much paper for every client), and overall I experienced great customer service. IF YOU HAVE A GROUPON, GET A REUND BEFORE COMING TO THIS PLACE. The environment and service is nice and all. One of the better eye place that I've seen in Westlake. Frame is like $150 at least which is pretty good but here is the catch: All lenses are AT LEAST $350. It goes up to $700. Don't come in here thinking you gotta groupon and save "150" off. No you're gonna come in here and spend another $350 AT LEAST for a pair of glasses that are $70 (on lens) in other places. Trust me, I've been to other glasses place w a groupon and the max I spend is $150. But this place will be way higher than that. Good luck. Everything is good but I really don't like this marketing tactic. At least be honest bout it. I'll be happy to pay that amount but just be upfront and not "poof all of a sudden, here is the lens prices." Obviously when you buy a groupon, most likely you are trying to save money and most likely don't have insurance for eye care. Well if you're trying to save money, don't go to this place. I was running late to my appointment by 15 min and apologized and called to mention I'd be there in 15 min. They said that'd be fine come on in. However, upon arrival I was told I needed to reschedule it was to close to their lunch time. Really? This is not right, and the dr. should have honored their word. But Doctor Lechlitner was extremely patient as I waded through the "which one is better 1 or 2, 2 or 3, 1 or 3" drag of the eye visit. Not only did they help me figure out how much of the visit my medical and vision insurance would cover prior to the appointment, but they sent me appointment confirmation and reminder texts! I showed up early for my appointment and was seen right away. The staff are gentle, informative and patient during the eye exams and Dr. Kaufman was amazing. She explained everything and went over my new prescription. The selection of lenses are good and there is a woman that helps you find the glasses that are best for you and she honestly had my best interest in mind! She let me take as much time as I needed to make my decision. My glasses were ready 6 days later and I walked in and she made sure that they fit and I was satisfied. The prescription and glasses are perfect, I could not be happier! It was pricey but definitely worth it for the spa-like feel of the office, exceptional care, and outstanding results! read more

I went in for a routine eye check to update my prescription. My copay is 10.00 for an eye exam. I wanted to waive dilation and picture of the eye because I just had it done last year and they were an additional expense that my insurance did not cover. I was told BY THE DOCTOR that she would not proceed with the exam if I did not allow those procedures that were not covered under my insurance. I was never told this when I scheduled. I should have just walked out, but I was already there and half way in. After talking to another optometrist about this "requirement" I found out that they are misleading you, this is not required they are just upselling. As a patient you should be free to waive whatever procedures you are not comfortable with or cannot afford or at a minimum be told about any mandatory charges in advance of the appointment. This is a deceptive and misleading practice and needs to be reported. read more

I had a truly unpleasant experience at this clinic - so unpleasant, in fact, that it prompted me to write my first yelp review. Upon checking in, the receptionist informed me that I had to decide between getting my eyes dilated and getting a retinal exam (sound familiar, other Yelp reviewers?). I told her that I wasn't interested in having my eyes dilated, since I didn't know beforehand and wouldn't be able to drive afterward. She then, very curtly, told me that I 1) had been informed of this requirement (which, I'm sorry to say, I hadn't; I would have found a different clinic, had that been the case) and 2) I had no choice in the matter and would have to pay for a $49 Optos Photo. This is complete nonsense. Eye dilation/examination of the optic nerve is, no doubt, an important measure - that is, if you're "over the age of 60," "have a history of eye diseases, such as retinal detachment," have certain diseases such as diabetes, or if you are having eye concerns that prompt the exam itself. So, in other words, not if you're in your mid 20s, in perfect health, and have had regular eye exams for 10+ years and have never had an issue. The Mayo clinic indicates as much (http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/eye-exam/expert-answers/eye-dilation/faq-20057882). Overall, the staff were nice and competent enough, but this place is wildly overpriced and not upfront about it. All in all (with vision insurance), I ended up paying $130 and was told that for 6 months of contacts, it would be $222. Ha! I've checked their website thinking, perhaps, this is my fault for not looking at their site closely enough, but I don't think so. The only mea culpa I can really think of on my part was not reading the negative reviews here and avoiding this place. That, and I should have walked out of there when the receptionist was so readily antagonistic towards me about the necessity of dilation and the pricing. I clearly wasn't the first person that poor woman had had to deal with on that front. Ah, well - hindsight is 20/20, right? read more

I had a wonderful experience at Westlake Eyecare. The staff was so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. I had been putting off many of my Doctors appointments due to COVID but, I decided to bite the bullet and schedule a visit. After leaving I felt completely comfortable going in for my appointment. Not only is the office beautiful and clean but it was obvious they were were taking the utmost precautions to keep their patients and staff safe. Additionally, I can not say enough good things about Dr. Kaufman. Sometimes I get the feeling doctors want to get you in and out of the office but she took her time to answer all of my questions and make sure I had the correct prescription. The staff here is very friendly but I was extremely disappointed to learn that the eyeglass prescription that I went in for was incomplete. If you would like to take your prescription somewhere else you will have to schedule another appointment and pay $29 to get your pupillary distance measurement. Ofcourse they will do this for free if you buy eyeglasses directly from them. This just seems like a blatant cash grab to me. I also am not fond of being forced to have my eyes dilated or spend $50 on some eye photo. Not sure what the point of having vision insurance is if you can't walk out of this place without spending $100 out of pocket for a routine exam. read more

ALL ABOUT MONEY NOT QUALITY Made an appointment for yearly exam (found them though Yelp), 3 weeks to get in, once at my appointment immediately asked if I wanted their hi tech exam "extras" at $49 each or 2 for $79 "it would be better because you have light eyes and avoid dilation" and of course insurance doesn't cover (I heard that to every customer who walked in), declined, had exam by "doctor" (actually an optometrist) then literally steered to the frame section with the "frame coordinator" and even though a very poor selection was convinced one pair was perfect for me. Yeah, I got suckered in and bought them. Also had exam for contacts and was asked if I wanted someone to instruct me on how to put them in. Since it had been a while I agreed it might be advantageous. Reviewed the bill of $980.00 (missed the part about $30 for the contact instruction, which wasn't even correct, I ended up taking them out and putting them in a totally different way I learned online!!!) and was told they would be ready in a week. Returned a week later to pick up the glasses and I immediately told them they were too strong and the frames were as flimsy as a pair of $5,00 readers from Walgreens. Was told to "let your brain adjust" to the lens for a week and call us. One week later still could not wear the glasses so called and told them. I could not see the "doctor" again for over two weeks!!! (after spending a $1000!!!) Returned in two weeks and was reexamined by the "doctor", surly and with attitude" who stated "you can only return frames twice because you don't like them." I explained they were cheap quality and I wasn't going to argue with her and her initial exam was not correct. More attitude and once again steered toward their frames "selection." Picked another pair and waited again two more weeks for them. The frames are better quality but WAY overpriced (they sell online for 1/2 the price) and the prescription seems to be alright after two months dealing with this company. Believe me, you and your pocketbook can do much better elsewhere and you might even end up with a pair of glasses in a normal 7 day time with a correct prescription. Apparently because they are in Westlake they seem to think they can overcharge and give attitude to everyone who walks in the door. AVOID THIS MONEY GRUBBING ENTERPRISE!! read more

I purchased a Groupon for $59.00 for exam and $150.00 toward a pair of glasses. What was the catch (thought to establish new customers, NO to price gauge you!) The only good thing about this practice is that they are not crowded and have nice office. Prices are double what you would normally spend on lenses etc. The doctor is no older than 35 and very unpleasant and short with you. She was the first person that greeted me (more like a disgruntled student employee) and didn't even say hi or smile. And she didn't introduce herself as the doctor until came to the room. The real exam tech was nice a helpful and the glasses specialist ok. She did pick out a pair immediately that thought would work but overall she was more about about making sale and moving on to the next phone call (had to wait btwn her answering the phone, very rude.) Charged for additional $49.00 fee and pushed another $49.00. And $590.00 for a pair of glasses (frames only 180) and this included the $150 off from Groupon. So total $108.00 for exam needing to come back for other exam $49.00. Couldn't use 150 credit towards frames unless buy lenses. The selection of frames was fair to good but minimal selection. SO I took all the info from the frames they wanted to charge a whole month of daycare and know will be able to find for half that. Good luck! I had purchased a groupon and confirmed the terms in advance with the office staff. Most of the staff were helpful but the appointment took twice as long as I was quoted, I wasn't informed of additional costs if I didn't want to have my eyes dilated, which I didn't realize needed to be part of the exam. I was not properly warned about the effects of dilation. I was told by multiple staff that the prescription I took with me could be used anywhere to get glasses but this was not the case. A measurement was missing. I was told I could make a trip back to the office if I wanted that measurement (which I need) for an additional fee OR if I purchased glasses there. read more

Convenient parking out front. Not too far from downtown Austin. Most importantly, extremely competent professional vision services. An excellent selection of frames too, and a great combination of human aesthetic guidance and high-tech prescription diagnosis and glasses fitting. I have permanent monovision thanks to Lasik and thought I needed two pairs of glasses, one for driving at night and a second for long hours of computer work. Instead, Lupita and the doctor set me up with a single pair of progressive lenses that are like HD widescreen so that my vision can be even better than before. read more

Just had a really delightful experience at Westlake Eyecare -- From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, they were all so incredibly friendly and took GREAT care of me! The receptionist explained things thoroughly and didn't rush me, but still got me in on time- the technician Elizabeth was bright and warm- and quick and thorough with all the tests- and Dr. Lechlitner was super sweet and gave me a great lesson on how my eyes are made and what she could see with the photos they took. I left feeling like I knew everything about the eyes- it was great! Don't listen to the groupon reviews-- those were solely for people looking for cheap frames. I was greeted right away and after some brief paperwork directed to the NCT machine. The assistant who performed the first two tests was testy and acted rushed, although there were no other patients waiting. The Doctor, however, was pleasant and professional. While the dilation drops were taking effect, I was directed to look at frames. I selected a few styles, and was given the hard sell. Their frames start at close to $400 and go to around $600. The glasses I chose would have cost over $700 with lenses. (I took my prescription to another optometrist and saved over $400 on the same frames and lenses package). My prescription did not include PD (pupillary distance), so be sure to ask for this or you will need to have it measured outside of their office. I used their Groupon, and I don't have vision insurance, so this may have diminished the service. The experience overall was fine, but given that my prescription was not fully completed I will probably not go back. read more
