Went here to update my eyeglass prescription. I was paying out of pocket and made it clear that I just wanted the basic exam and signed a document stating that I was declining any of their extra services. During the eye exam, Dr. Kaufman said a short speech about dilation, never mentioned anything about money, and then took me to a machine that I didn't know the purpose of that shined a bright light in my eyes. After the exam, I was surprised to see that I was being charged an extra $49 for 'retinal pictures' even though I had declined any additional services when I first arrived. I was very upset about this and when I questioned this with the worker who was settling my bill the worker went to the back and emerged saying that they were still going to charge me and that I would have to go to the manager (who I assume wasn't there) to get this resolved. I was very upset by this and I continued to push back against the charge and after a while Dr. Kaufman emerged, irritated and unapologetic. After some back and forth, she finally agreed that they would waive the extra charge. Overall, there may have been miscommunication, but I definitely did not understand that Dr. Kaufman was trying to upsell me to a more expensive treatment I did not want. I also was not informed by Dr. Kaufman directly about cost, and definitely don't understand why my signed statement declining extra services was ignored, why it was so difficult for me to get these charges reversed, or why Dr. Kaufman was so irritated when I questioned the charges. Overall, I've had many eye exams over the years and I've never had a doctor upsell me like this during an appointment on services I already declined. I would recommend anyone going to this practice to be careful as you might find the doctor has put some surprises on your bill when leaving. read more

I was nervous to locate a new optometrist, since my previous one dropped my insurance. But Dr. Murray and her staff immediately put me at ease with their professionalism and expertise. Dr. Murray performed a thorough eye exam, and explained in detail about the health of my eyes after completing it. It is amazing the difference a slight adjustment makes in an exam. My eyes became more nearsighted, but with my new RX I can read video game and monitor text without strain after a long day. The recommended contacts are extremely comfortable, and don't dry out after all day wear. The office also hooked me up with a rebate, so the contacts cost wasn't as high as normal. FYI - the rebate is a prepaid debit card you must activate online. I am absolutely thrilled to find this office within walking distance of my job. The staff is friendly and personable, and Dr. Murray is an experienced optometrist who soothed my new doc fears with her professionalism and warm demeanor. My daughter and I asked more than 3 times for an exam for contacts We took the prescription to the first place and they told us it was the wrong exam..... surely Westlake Eyecare didn't fail this badly..... We took it to a second place.... Yes .... Indeed....a complete sheer, total, and utter waste of time and money. This place has terrible service. I received an eye exam and at the end of the exam, placed an order for glasses. I returned home, discussed with my family, and decided I didn't need the glasses at the time. I called back within 1 hour to cancel the order. They said all sales are final, despite the fact that they had not begun making the glasses (it would take another 7-10 business days for them to receive them). Terrible service. read more

It is rare for me to write a negative review but my treatment at Westlake Eyecare was so poor I feel compelled to warn others! Firstly you will learn when you attend the practice that you cannot be seen if you do not either have your pupil dilated to enable a full examination of your retina. This you will learn as you sit in the chair will mean you may well not be able to see well enough to drive home but you will only know that for sure having sat and waited for an indeterminate length of time. Of course had you been told of this you would have had someone drop you off and pick you up. There is however an alternative. You can pay I think $79 and have a photograph of your retina. You will be assured that this is money well spent to have a physical record but you might have liked to think about that in advance. I would imagine most people will do as I did and reluctantly add a large amount onto the upcoming bill. All of this was somewhat irritating but the end of my tether came when I was prescribed lenses that were not sufficiently strong . I should say in fact Not The Correct prescription. I had not been informed that the optometrist needed to know my current lens prescription. This had never been the case with previous optometrists. As such we were both somewhat in the dark but she was the professional so I was not concerned. Not until I couldn't quite see to give the correct credit card. My poor brain was trying to adapt and somehow I did make my way home driving. At home I began to have a headache found myself unable to read small print. On phoning the practice - I had not been given information about the prescription strength - I found that I had been given a prescription suited to someone who really did not need contact lenses! I had totally lost confidence in this practice and telephoned again the next day to explain that I would now need to see a competent optometrist and pay for the same examination which had been so poorly performed and as such I wanted a refund. It took a week for me to get hold of the manager Brook. Brook told me in no uncertain terms that my perception of what had happened was completely wrong. He had no qualms about the retinal photograph being essentially an expensive and unavoidable option. Additionally I should have know that I would need to tell the optometrist what my lens' strength was. She, in assessing my eyes without this information had done a perfectly good job and it was up to me to come back to have the correct prescription. I was keen to go higher than Brook with my complaint since I found him abrupt and patronizing. He told me there was no one higher than him to whom I could speak. I asked him to email me his interpretation/justification of the events so that I can seek professional advice on the way forward to my simple request for a refund. I am still waiting to receive that. read more

This was the worst experience I have had at a so called high end eyeglass office. I visited there location at four points and I will not be back. I took my Cartier glass in to get tightened and instead of them telling me when don't tighten these glasses because we don't sell them. They said yes took them to the back and came back five minutes later and said I was trying to bend them and they broke. I don't understand why they were trying to bend my glasses in the first place I just wanted them to tighten the screws around the nose area. Now they are not giving me any help into getting my glasses fixed. Just giving me the run around and trying to get me to buy a new pair from them when I already spent 2000 on these five months ago. I am just trying to get the lens they broke fixed. There is no good customer service here at all read more

I really enjoyed my interactions with the people here! During my appointment, the entire staff was very personable and took time to answer my questions and just generally be kind. I really like their texting service as well-- it eliminates the need for unnecessary appointments or phone calls. The only downfall here might be that eyeglasses are on the higher end of pricing, but you can buy glasses anywhere once you have a prescription so it's no biggie. Thanks y'all! read more

I rarely will write a review on Yelp, but I cannot help but do so now. I have never received such horrible customer service. I brought my 12 year old in for an exam and glasses. We determined he was going to get contacts and also a backup pair of glasses. I paid over $350 for glasses and went home to research glasses for myself (thank goodness I didn't get mine there!). I was shocked to find so many more reasonable options out there for glasses and given that these were for my 12 year old, I thought it made sense to get him a less expensive pair. I immediately called (mailbox full, of course, so couldn't leave a message), sent an email, then called first thing in the morning to tell them I had changed my mind on the glasses etc. When we left the office at 6:15 pm the night before, the woman told me that it would be at least 10 business days until I received the glasses because their machine was broke, they had to send out their orders, everyone was behind because of the storm etc etc. When I called back at exactly 9:00 am when they opened, they told me that the factory had already started making the lenses and they couldn't cancel it. Um, the same factory that was going to take a minimum of 10 business days to make the glasses started less than 18 hours after I was in the store at closing time????????? The manager (Brooke) and manager's assistant (Jessica) were unhelpful and unkind and dishonest. I feel sick over how they took advantage of me. Thank goodness I hadn't already ordered his contact lenses from them. I could understand if I called a week later to cancel, but this was an hour after I had been in the office (and I left when the office was already closed). PLUS, I was NEVER told that all sales were final while making the transaction. That would have been helpful as perhaps I would have held off and done more research. Also, sounds like this isn't the first time the exact same thing has happened to other customers (Anton B.). They clearly value money over customers. read more

There is a special sort of dread reserved for the occasion you decide to see a doctor when you haven't had your eyes checked in awhile. Usually, you get some criticism and the "WHY DID YOU WAIT SO LONG???" speech, but that is not the case here. From the time I called to ask about prices to the moment I walked out the door following my visit, I had a WONDERFUL experience with the downtown location of Westlake Eyecare. I opted to visit without insurance, and the price was $20-50 cheaper than other places I called. Nice! I was initially drawn by the lowest price, and their excellent customer service sealed the deal. (You and I both know how $20 isn't worth it to visit a grumpy place over the more pleasant one.) Taylor at the front desk was SO pleasant, and she helped me fill out paperwork and get ready for my exam. Easy peasy. They are transparent with prices and options, and they weren't pushy when I declined a couple of optional services. Taylor also made the pre-exam part easy (really, I laughed my through the usual pre-exam tests; Taylor is HILARIOUS). I was impressed. When it came time for my exam, Dr. Lechlitner made my experience super fun and easy, too. She explained what she was doing and was so patient and pleasant. When I told her it had been awhile since my last exam, she didn't ask questions or give me a lecture. Instead, she took the time to give me quality care in a low-key, fun environment. The glasses selection is really spec-tacular (...hahaha). Since I wasn't using insurance, the designer frames with lenses were way out of my budget. I did get my prescription from them without any hassle or judgment, which I greatly appreciated. In fact, their lack of pushiness would actually make me consider going back to look with insurance sometime. If you're considering Westlake Eyecare, seriously consider giving their downtown location a call. Their scheduling is easy (I was able to get in the next day!), pricing is reasonable and transparent, and team is AWESOME. My entire visit (including eye exam and glasses fitting) took one hour, and I never felt rushed. Go ahead and treat yourself to a fast, easy appointment (that will actually be fun, too). I have had nothing but nice experiences with the staff and Dr. Murray. Always pleasant and got me in for an appointment right away. My 3-star rating is strictly about my experiences with the billing department, or whoever handles that. I visited several times over a short period of time and paid my co-pay at the time of each visit. It wasn't until mid-April that I got a call from their billing department stating I owed from a visit over 8 months ago. Imagine my shock. You're contacting me 8 months later over $25? At no point did I receive a letter in the mail. I was driving at the time I received the call, so I couldn't follow-up until later. I tried on 4 occasions to contact billing but no one ever got back to me. It wasn't until I received a pink "we're about to send you to collections" letter in the mail that there was an email address to get in touch with them (this information is not on their website). I sent them a follow-up that I in fact paid double what they say I owed on that date and a copy of my bank statement. I received a call promptly from "billing" and they were glad I called because when he looked into my account it turns out that not only did I pay Westlake (obviously), but they owe ME money because I was overcharged. What struck me as odd was the fact that a) they blamed this on an automated system and b) there was zero remorse or apology on their front. While I appreciate you getting back to me, you almost sent me to collections over $25 when you owe me because of your "faulty system." Sucks, but I'll be finding a new doctor. read more

I went to the downtown location and had such a bad experience that it prompted me to write my first ever Yelp review. First, I will say the staff at the front desk was great and very helpful. The one-star rating is entirely due to my treatment by the optometrist, Dr. Murray. To start with, I was scolded for using a contact prescription for two years -- she yelled that I was doing something "illegal" -- even though my prescription indicates it is valid for two years and I had actually only been using it for a year. This was before she had even done any examination of my eyes. Then, after I said my eyes had been dry for about a week, she asked if I sleep in my contacts. I have been wearing contacts for the last 25 years and know better than to sleep in them. When I told her I did not, she told me she didn't believe me. At the end, she told me my eyes were "very sick" (with no further explanation) and I would need to be off contacts for a long time, maybe forever. She also charged me a for a contacts prescription fitting even though she refused to actually give me one. That said, I went to a another doctor for second opinion the next day and learned the problem was only a simple infection that required some antibiotic drops and a two-week period without contacts. Drastically different! i cannot speak to the other doctor on staff, but I have never experienced such bad service from any doctor I have visited. I go to the doctor for help, not to be scolded on things I'm not even doing wrong. Very disappointed in this situation given the proximity of the location to my office, but I will definitely be seeing someone else in the future. read more

Horrible customer service. I will NEVER go there again. Had an appointment to see how my new contact lenses were doing. The receptionist asked how they were feeling. I told her I wasn't seeing the best out of them. She asked if I wanted to proceed with ordering some. No doctor looked at me to see how my eyes were doing with the new lenses. Then, in the middle of seeing me, the receptionist said she had to leave for a staff meeting and for me to wait until the meeting was over. Seriously? You're going to just walk away, at my scheduled time, for a staff meeting and make me wait? Not professional at all. Another patient walked in at the same time, and she told him he had to wait too because of the staff meeting. Then, I had an extra, unopened box of lenses that were no longer recommended by them. I brought them in for a refund. They told me, sorry, we don't do refunds. They put me in these lenses, then after wearing them decided they were not healthy for my eyes, recommended different lenses, and then refused to give me a refund or credit for the unopened lenses I had. I told the receptionist to just cancel my new order and refund my card. She said she couldn't do that, as it needed to be approved by the manager. I said then please go ask the manager. She said she's not in. I said then please call her. She said she couldn't do that. I said, well, I suggest you do something because I'm not leaving without a refund and a receipt. She then proceeded to refund my card (without having to ask or call the manager). I told her to make sure she told her manager they just lost me as a patient. There were so many reasons, I was excited to try Westlake. The location. The reviews. And yet this was the worst experience I have ever had at an optometrist. I arrived for my appointment 5 minutes early since I wasn't sure what paper work would need to be completed. I had to stand outside and wait / watch while the staff stared at me until they formally opened and unlocked the door. Then every person I spoke with, from the receptionist, to the assistant who did some preliminary exams, to the actual doctor repeatedly tried to upsell me to their new technologies. Three times I had to explain that I was not interested. I understand its a business but you're also healthcare professionals and I should at least feel like you care about my health more than making another buck. This was best represented when I asked for my contact prescription. They told me I would have to come back for a follow up. They wanted to be able to bill my insurance for the follow up even though I have been using those contacts for almost a decade. Even though it would cost me time and money to come back. I give two stars because others seemed to have had better experiences and I want to hope it was a bad day. But the bottom line: they're sales staff more than healthcare professionals. read more

Where to begin... I've had some major issues with my eyes this past year. From changes in glasses, to contacts, changes in eyesight. And having moved to Austin; I've changed eye care specialists. Upon googling eye care in Austin and stumbling upon Westlake eyecare, I was hesitant. Everything in westlake comes with the westlake price, and I really didn't want to be price gouged on my eyes. I called up and spoke with Severa about potentially making appointment. Her kind, attentive, and informative nature was the tipping point on me coming to Westlake eye care; and I couldn't be more happy. From the accounting department, to the front desk. From the doctor to the optometrist. This venue has been the most amazing to deal with. They helped me with transitioning to new glasses and contacts. They helped identify and fix an eye infection. And they treated me like a valued customer. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Austin for my eye care based off how I've been taken care of here. I highly recommend this eye care optical! All of the staff is friendly helpful beyond. They have "fit me in" twice with eye problems, and I appreciate their service and attitude. The pricing is compatible to any other, and the doctor is smart, and a sweetheart! I wouldn't go any where else. All top end updated equipment and great staff. Everything was explained well and everyone was very friendly. I would recommend!

First off, I would like to say that the doctor I saw was excellent. She was super nice, answered all of my questions, and made me feel comfortable during my appointment. HOWEVER.... When I left, my bill was $282 which completely shocked me because I have vision insurance. I went home and reviewed my bill and noticed that I was charged full price ($150) for my contact lens fitting, even though my insurance should cover a portion of that ($73). So, I emailed the office and told them that it seemed like I had been overcharged by $76. Someone responded to my email saying that she was pretty sure that I was not overcharged, but she would go ahead and submit it just in case. I thought this was weird because my vision benefits seem pretty easy to understand, so I called my vision insurance company to check. The lady I spoke with verified that I was correct, and I had been overcharged. When I went in to pick up my contacts a week or so later, I asked about the credit I was owed and I was told that I had a $20 credit for something (not the contact lens fitting, like I was expecting). I mentioned that I was confused by that amount, and I told the girl that was helping me that my insurance told me that I was owed $76, not $20. She just kind of shrugged her shoulders at me and told me that I should contact my insurance and have my insurance company contact their office directly for clarification. How rude! That's not my job to verify my insurance! Especially when I had already contacted my insurance, and they told me that Westlake Eye Care had overcharged me! I would think that my doctors office would care enough to make sure they were keeping their clients happy, and not making me do extra work just to get a refund of the money that I was incorrectly charged for in the first place! But after the fact it turns out that even after the receptionist verified with our insurance that my contact lens portion of the visit was covered they are now saying it wasn't, and now I'm getting stuck with a bill which the staff has aggressively pursued payment for. This place was awesome from my initial call to the reminder from Courtney to leave this very review! Dr. Murray was SUPER pleasant and helped me to feel comfortable when I felt my eyes may have been taking a turn for the worse. Lupita was very helpful in finding the best ways to use my allowance to get me the best deal possible which is a big deal for me. All this being said, Courtney was the first and last person I talked to with this whole experience and she was amazing. She went, in my eyes, above and beyond making sure my insurance was valid and would take care of my visit. I went to Westlake Eyecare in Bee Caves a little over two years ago and was in need of the standard check up. I decided to go to their downtown location this time since it's closer to home. The staff was absolutely wonderful, welcoming, personable and patient. (Natalia and Taylor had no problem taking the time to help me pick new frames after my appointment.) The entire process was really efficient with no unnecessarily long waits, and Dr. Lechlitner was great as well. The team reflects her positive, professional, approachable attitude. As for parking, I called in advance, and Taylor provided a super affordable, easily accessible recommendation. I would absolutely recommend Westlake Eyecare in the future and look forward to going back again. read more

This place has very friendly staff. I had a great eye exam and the staff even helped me choose a great pair of glasses. However, the time that I have been waiting to receive my glasses has been unacceptable given the high price that I paid. Paying over $600, I expect to receive them when I was told. Unfortunately this didn't happen, and I was told by staff they would be ready a week later. So I took time off of work and showed up the following week to pick up my glasses, and when I showed up staff told me they were still not ready. I waited until the end of that day to see if they would arrive, but they never did. I called staff back at the end of that day and explained to them I wanted to cancel my order because of how long I had been waiting, but staff told me according to their policy I could not because apparently the glasses were going to be shipped out the following day. I really think I have been given the run around, and to pay a price as high as I did and wait as long as I did has been unacceptable. No one should have to pay as much as I did for a pair of glasses and wait as long as I did and not be allowed to cancel my order when the service being provided is not what you were promised. I would recommend for others to take their business elsewhere. This places charges you way too much money for the service they are providing. UPDATE: After all the waiting (one month), I was contacted personally by the owner (very friendly) and received a one-year extension on my warranty for all the trouble. read more

I was in a desperate need of prescription glasses and Westlake Eyecare & Optical Boutique came to my rescue! They were the only office that accepted my insurance plan and able to schedule a same day exam. I saw Dr. Lechlitner and was extremely pleased with the level of care I received. Her eye exam is efficient and explained everything in great detail to avoid any ambiguity, which was nice. The staff was also amazing and provided me with a smooth and painless experience. I appreciate the extra effort by Rachel who helped me navigate through their (impressive) selection of glasses and narrow it down to glasses that would look best on me. Overall, I am pleased with the level of care I received as well as the professionalism demonstrated by everybody. I will definitely be coming back here for my eye health. read more

I was directly lied to by the staff at the downtown location. They told me they no longer made the type of contact I use. Once I called them on their bluff they fought me tooth and nail against writing me a prescription for what I wanted. Obviously, they are getting a kickback for the Acuvue Oasis. PATHETIC! I went to another doctor and they wrote me my prescription without any issues. It's really sad to see a place value their extra pennies and dimes trickling in then the concerns of their patients. I guess I'd recommend this place to anyone that likes doctors that lie to your face, otherwise I'd find a different place. read more

The doctor was good at explaining things to me. The glasses are expensive, almost $300 after insurance. I placed an order for a new pair of glasses at 6pm but called back to cancel at 9am the next morning because I thought it was expensive. I could get a cheaper pair else where. They did't let me cancel the order at first and said it was the policy. I was cool if they couldn't refund as it was my fault. They finally refunded me but with an unpleasant and angry voice on the phone. That was not very professional to me. They also refused to give me my PD measurement. Many times they didn't answer my emails until I called. I won't recommend them to anyone because of their unprofessional manner. read more
