I just want to say that I am so happy with the service I received from Master Eye Associates. I had been using Davis Vision eye care in up state NY, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]they have been good. I recently moved back to Austin, TX, and needed to update my eye prescription from 2022. I was amazed at the service and technology in the office coming from a technology background myself. They have the latest technology including image scanning, so you don't need to do the pupil dilation, which was always a pain. They, the staff, and doctor found some conditions I needed to address. These are mostly genetic and advanced age symptoms[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Luckily the outstanding team and Dr. Richard Maybury addressed it, and I will receive the appropriate treatment. As in all my reviews, I am so excited to highlight a business that goes above and beyond. I will continue to have myself and my wife visit Dr. Maybury annually as it is most important in our day and age, and he is an exceptional doctor of optometry. First time to Master Eye Associates. They do not sell glasses, but they appear to have contact lenses. Came with wife to obtain an updated glasses prescription. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Called beforehand; they said walk-ins are always welcome (but really, it makes sense to have an appointment anyways); otherwise walk-ins are used to fill in slots where appoints have been canceled or if there are no shows[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Vision insurance is accepted, as well as payment without insurance. After checkin, waited for a bit before going through the standard eye exams. Afterwards, we were brought to the exam room. Reading letters on a screen occurs using the reflection of the screen located behind you in the mirror. Afterwards, the optometrist will come in and set you up on the slit lamp to inspect your eyes, and the phoropter to see how you'll see best. Optometrist was quick, efficient, and thorough. Meh. My appointment took a total of 45 minutes. The doctor was super nice and helpful in answering all my questions. The supporting staff though? Not so much. One of the girls at the front desk was completely uninterested in answering the questions I had about what was covered in my insurance. She seemed so annoyed. Definitely not welcoming at all. I haven't taken care of my health in a long time and it's kind of nerve racking going into any medical appointment. I was greeted with smiles when I came in, offered a cup of coffee while I waited and had a very enjoyable and relaxed conversation with the tech named Aldo. He helped out until the doctor was available and was very relatable. He made me feel like we were friends and not at a doctors appointment. I needed that today. I will not go back to the Mueller location. The doctor was nice and knowledgeable. The office staff were very nice while I was there. But it took weeks to get my trial contacts. Then after I determined the contacts would work, it took WEEKS to get the prescription emailed to me. The answering service was nice on the numerous calls I made trying to get my prescription, until TODAY. I calmly voiced my frustration, never raised my voice, and was told "well you didn't talk to me" and then HUNG UP ON ME!!! UPDATE: CEO of Master Eye reached out to me and agreed to reimburse the $15 late fee, and as a good-will gesture, add a gift certificate to my account for $50. My wife made an appointment there for later this week. Poor customer service lost them a couple of long-time patients this week. My insurance and copay have always been paid at time of service. Received a bill one year after my last appointment requesting my copay for 2018. I arrived for my annual appointment and they had added $30 late fees to the copay, just 35 days after I received the statement they had taken 1 year to send (and the statement did not mention anything concerning late fees). I asked them to remove the late charges and they removed $15, but refused to remove the other $15. I paid my 2019 copay and the 2018 copay and late fee, but two days later, I received another statement threatening to send my account to collections if not paid in 30 days. If they would have sent the statement in a timely fashion, I could have paid from pre-tax $$ FSA. Their late billing cost me $$, and they refused to admit their error. My wife and I will be seeking eye care elsewhere. read more

Was interested in Master Eye based on the office location but was severely put off when the front desk receptionist refused to look up my insurance before I booked an appointment. When I said ok, then I guess I'll book an appointment and have you guys look it up, she said No, that's not their process to book appointments just so prospective patients will cancel them. *Rock and hard place*. The wait was a little longer than I expected, but the front office staff kept me occupied in great conversation about eye health. Bricelda was amazing, informative, personable and kind. I've been a patient of Dr. Mayberry's for approximately 4 years. The front office staff is cordial, personable, professional and the longest I've had to wait to see the doctor for an appointment, was less than 15 minutes. But, even if I have to wait that short period of time, they make sure I know that the doctor is finishing up with another patient. They never make me "figure it out" on my own. But, aside from that, I've had my best experience with the Office Manager, Ms. Blanton. As long as I've worked professionally, I KNOW that a team is only as good as the person leading them. That said, it's clear why the other office staff is as they are. She is professional and has great customer service skills. I'm customer service driven, so that's a BIG AF PLUS for me! It's clear that she trains her staff to do the same. I don't feel like a patient when I go there. I feel almost like a good friend or family member and know that I'm going to get the best service for my vision. I'm the type of person that if I feel a "bad vibe" from the initial point of contact, that's indicative of what my experience will be during an exam, be it dentist, family doctor, etc. After my exam, Ms. Blanton even personally walked me next door to Vision Works and got me connected to the staff there so I could get my prescription filled. Finally, in the midst of this pandemic, I truly appreciate the protocol they have in place for patient appointments. if I could have gave 0 I would have, most incompetent place I've ever been to. Visited this site, December 2022 and as of late May 2023 still have not received my TRIAL contacts. They told me it would take about two months for them to come in, in early March I went to get an update on progress and they told me the contacts have never even been ordered. This was frustrating because I was to leave out of country for two months, then when the trials came in, started receiving hostile calls for pick up; when I tried to explain I was out of the country they kept ranting about how they've been trying to contact me for one month when I've waited for them for 6 months now. I chose Master Eye mainly because of its location was convenient for me, but their service was less than desirable. When I showed up for my appointment, I was waiting for more than 20 minutes before they finally decided to tell me that my insurance could not be verified so they were going to cancel my appointment. I tried asking if they could just bill my insurance afterwards but they refused. I had to reschedule my appointment for another day. When I finally got my new glasses Rx and ordered lenses, turns out the doctor had made a typo on my Rx! So one of my lenses was way off and now my order is further delayed. He did not even offer an apology for this mistake. If there is another optometrist in your area, I would look there first before considering this place. **Updated 8/17/2020** After contacting the office, I was told they are not billing my insurance so I will not be getting my prescription from them. I'm perfectly fine with that. I do not want any of my money going towards these goons. I also received mediocre response from the owner. He stated the photo is done as a way to avoid having the doctor in your face due to COVID and also because it is much more accurate in detecting problems. The doctor was in my face the entire time while he was trying different lenses so yeah.. fake news. He "waived" the $39 fee (which had they truly conducted an investigation as he stated.. he would know I was refunded) and he offered me a $50 gift card. Office manager and other staff are discourteous and uneducated in basic customer service. I came in with severe eye pain and the tech insisted on using instrumentation that blows a puff of air in an ulcerated eye. Office manager lied telling me that a subsequent appointment could not be accommodated due to a full schedule. When I arrive 10 minutes later, I find the waiting room completely empty and office as quiet and empty as library on Super Bowl Sunday. Be aware that this location will waste your time and refuse to do a dilated eye exam. They don't care whether it's medically necessary for you or not. They only want to do the retinal scan which is not a replacement for a dilated eye exam. Staff tried to act like I was crazy claiming that I've never had a dilated exam at this location. Got charged for a service I did not consent to ! It was in the paper work but it does not have an option to opt out. I got charged $35 for pictures that I did not want !! You have to give them verbal consent but how do I know to tell you what I did not want if I didn't even know I was receiving a particular service. The paper work had an option to opt out of another service which I did and didn't know about the other service they should let you know THAT YOU MUST TELL THEM NOW VERBALLY!! read more

I visited back in March, and owe a belated thank you to the team here. They saw me same-day when I was experiencing sudden blurry vision in one eye, cause unknown. The doctor found a scratch on my eye, and discussed possible causes and implications, as no recent "injury" had occurred and we were both a bit baffled. After several visits to ophthalmologists the following weeks and months, I was diagnosed with recurrent corneal erosion, and epithelial basement membrane dystrophy. I am grateful for the thoughtful guidance of the doctor here who kicked off this process and included these descriptions to make me aware of such issues, and appreciated his patience in discussing everything with me during a stressful time. Typical big box arrogance. I made an appointment with this eye office a few days ago after my glasses were smashed in a break-in. At no point during this conversation did the secretary mention that several major credit cards were not accepted or that there were online forms to fill out. I called the day of my appointment because I was having eye pain and wanted to make sure it was OK to get an eye exam for glasses anyway. I had to call several times to even get someone on the phone. When I showed up, the secretary had a very bad attitude and informed me that my credit card wouldn't be accepted. So I left without the exam. I know this is a chain. And it shows in the type of customer service I received. The staff are plainly aware that they make their money through quantity, not quality. I called in advance and they assured me they were in-network with VSP. I filled out the forms and showed up to my appointment. I arrived 15 mins early and they told me I had to wait outside. No big deal. When they were ready, I expected to pay a $20 co-pay. I was shocked when they told me that it would be $110. They informed me that the doctor REQUIRES that your eyes be scanned with a laser at each appointment, which is not covered by insurance. They could have told me this before I went there or while I was waiting, but they did not. Well, I had already had that eye imaging done last year, my prescription never changes, so I saw no reason to waste $90 on this protocol. The whole thing felt like a bait and switch to me.The office was also totally sterile and not a place you want to be. I usually go to Envision Eye Care in Mueller, which is great. I didn't go there this time because they had a long wait. Well, I can see now why everyone in Mueller would prefer to go to Envision. Luckily for me, I found Resolution Eye Care on Airport Road which was amazing. They got me in the same day, and they charged me FIVE DOLLARS in addition to my copay to have my eyes scanned not NINETY DOLLARS. Also, the retail frame store next door to Master Eye Associates, which I guess is connected, told me it would be 2-3 weeks before I could get new glasses. Well, guess what? Resolution Eye Care got me Kate Spade frame & lenses ready in ONE HOUR, not THREE WEEKS. Terrible waste of time at this place, total bait and switch. read more

Dr. Maybury and his staff were very friendly and efficient 3. They took my insurance (Superior Vision) and the appointment cost exactly how much they said it would be and most of all, 4. They didn't try to sell me extra tests I didn't need (e.g., eye dialating) or try to coerce me into buying glasses or contacts from the EyeMasters next door (a problem I've faced at other optometrists. I had a great time at my eye appointment last week. First of all, I called ahead asking if they took my insurance, and they gave me a quote for how much it would cost. Then I came in as a walk-in the same day as I called and filled out some forms. I wasn't seen immediately, as there was another patient ahead of me, but the staff seemed like they were doing their best to be as efficient as possible. I didn't mind waiting 15-20 minutes to begin my exams. The staff made the exams fun! The lady I had definitely enjoys what she does and was happy to joke with me when I asked if I was going to have to read a chart (because I can barely make out the big E). My doctor, Dr. Maybury was very nice and not at all judgmental when I learned I was slacking on rubbing my contact lenses to remove lipids. He took his time with me and didn't rush through my visit like I sometimes feel happens at eye appointments. Overall, I was underwhelmed with my experience. I've been going to another optometrist for years, but I just changed jobs and insurance, so needed to find someone in network. I live in the area and the location was convenient, so I decided to try it out. The level of professionalism was lacking, including discussing payment openly in front of other patients and doing testing in literally an open room, where other patients could watch it happening. Additionally, I've never been to another place where they tack on so many additional fees, mandatory and not covered by insurance. The staff mumbled behind their masks and then acted irritated when asked to repeat themselves. I was in the examination room for only about 10 minutes total and I have never felt more rushed. The doctor literally was out of breath as she sped through my examination like it was a lightening round and seemed irritated when I asked her to retry a "one or two" option. I cannot stress the level of 'rushed' this was. I thought to myself at one point "this is so bad, it's almost comical." Additionally, she asked me about what contacts I'd like to wear, and after I specifically told her the brand and type of contact, she still prescribed me the wrong kind (conveniently, almost $20 more expensive per box), and so when I went next door (another inconvenient feature of this place, you have to order lenses and glasses from a second party) to order the lenses, they couldn't order the contacts I wanted because the doctor had written the wrong prescription. They had to contact the doctor to correct the prescription, which took almost 6 hours. Save yourself the trouble and rushed feeling and pick another place to have your eyes checked. read more

Dr. Dang is absolutely wonderful! I chose Master Eye Associates simply because they're so close to my house and take appointments online. I'm never comfortable going new places, especially with anything health related, but this was an easy visit. The woman at the front desk (I think she's some kind of tech because she did the blood pressure/read-the-chart thing before I saw the doctor) was pleasant and helpful, not to mention pretty understanding of my medical concerns. And then I met Dr. Dang. She was really personable and friendly, and I felt very comfortable with her. She's clearly very knowledgeable, and she didn't rush the exam at all. She took the time to explain quite a bit to me, and while she pointed out some not-so-great things about my vision problems & health, she did so in a way that didn't come across as judgmental or condescending. But she did make sure I took her warnings seriously, and I can really respect that. I'm used to feeling like many doctors are too rushed and too uninterested in their patients as individuals, which usually makes me uncomfortable asking questions, or feel like I'm not getting the best diagnosis and treatment.
