All good things must come to an end. We have been coming to Pflugerville Vision Center for almost two decades. Dr Amy Bethel has always been amazing, the front desk have the absolute best customer service bar none. However the turnaround in the optical center has gone down terribly. Between my husband and I we spend no less than a grand on glasses excluding insurance. Deb has always been the best optician any office could benefit from. This was more than a JOB for her and she always had her customers best interest in mind. The final straw that will keep us from purchasing anymore glasses from here happened today. I brought a pair of frames less than a year old in for replacement. I was told they just needed a screw, I told them I had been told it required more than a screw but I drove over here anyway in hopes they could repair them. After 39 minutes and being told they couldn't repair them but would give me the demo pair as the warranty replacement, or they could try to do what they could as a temporary fix. I agreed with the latter only for the repair person to come back and say he didn't want to take a chance. When asked if I could use the demo as a loaner I was told no that would be the replacement pair. I did not wish to accept this. The optician said she would try she came back and her "fix" was to TAPE a $300 frame with scotch tape until the replacement comes in 2- 3 weeks. I told her on the phone it needed more than a screw but she is the "expert" so I wasted 47 minutes for a piece of tape that I could have done myself. Really this is how loyal, returning, patients/customers are treated? Needless to say I am appalled!! I (we) will likely continue to see Dr Amy but for this service or lack of we can purchase frames online at least then we will get what we pay for. read more

Not the best service, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I wasn't sure I should post this, but it's been a year and felt it was helpful to share. I went here a few times because they were local and in network. I have had glasses and/or contacts since I was 5. I have never had any eye doctor get my prescription wrong, especially not after 3 attempts. I came here and showed them my previous prescription that I had no complaints about, just was a doctor I wasn't near anymore. I needed another set of contacts. After 3 times of them trying and failing to get my prescription correct, I just had to go ahead and order my contacts with the wrong prescription because at that point it was Dec 22nd and my insurance was changing for them to no longer be in network. So I have glasses and contacts that things are still blurry with and I can't afford to replace right now. The doctors are husband and wife, not overly nice but they weren't really rude that I remember either. But they both tried to get my prescription right and failed. I never understood why they wouldn't just give me the exact same prescription I previously had that I showed them and told them it was still good. Even if this place was in-network for me, I'd find somewhere else. read more

My son was messing around and got something poked into his eye... it hurt a lot and it looked pretty bad! I called around but no one would take us on an emergency. I mean it's a young boy's eye... I kept getting told to take him to urgent care. But this is an eye.. not a cold... I wanted an eye doc! Then I called here... they made a spot for us! No question about it... they made room and got us in. The location is not where you'd expect it but it is a nice building. It is just tucked back in a neighborhood kind of. They treated us great! They comforted my son... got him back and looked at everything and took their time making sure... it turns out it was all ok. No serious damage but it did look bad... burst blood vessels but nothing that would not go away in a week or so. The way they took care of us made me a customer! The appointments were met on time and my wife and I were both able to get of our eyes checked within the hour. We'll be coming back in the future. First time here and I couldn't have been more happy. The office was clean and the staff very friendly. They have many choices for frames and if you don't like a color, they will try to see if they can order a color you like online. I didn't wait long before being seen and I was taken to the back of the office where there was a series of tests to go through to check my vision. The tech was super nice and helpful. I have been going to PVC for many years. As I've grown older, I have started to need reading glasses. They make me feel like I am a hundred years old to the middle school students I teach. I went to Dr Thomas for two years and he was great. However, I went to get my glasses adjusted and the process ruined the place for me. The first day I went, they were so busy and didn't listen to me properly. I took the glasses home and realized the problem was worse, and the glasses were scratched. I took them back the next day and this time they fixed the crookedness but not the scratch. When I took them back the third time, the optometrists told me because I didn't get the lenses there, they couldn't replace them. Now I have to get new glasses. I liked Dr. Thomas but after the awful experience adjusting my glasses, I can't back there. I recommend not trusting them with your glasses. read more

Dr. Bethel was super cool and didn't lecture me about sleeping in my contacts- hello college kids are going to do that! I needed to have my eyes checked but wasn't sure where to go. My husband had his eyes checked at Pflugerville Vision Care and was happy with the service there so I thought I would give it a shot. I am definitely a fan! Dr. Amie Bethel has a great personality and made the whole experience an almost enjoyable one. The only thing that would make it better is if they could omit the "glaucoma test." Getting my peepers checked....hoping the puff in the eye test thingy doesn't happen! Well, the puff in the eye happened, but this was a wonderful experience! I was greeted right away at check in and commended on my being on time for the last appointment of the day. The tech that performed all the tests in the beginning, Sy, was so personable and funny. Dr. Steven Thomas was just as personable and thorough with his exam. My prescription hasn't changed much, which is good. He even went more detailed than any other optometrist that I have seen before...explaining my astigmatism and which eye was the weakest of the two :) Mike, the optician, helped me find some frames that would look good on my face. I have NEVER had anyone do that for me. Of course, I had to have champagne taste on a beer budget and pick out some Versace frames that were a little more than I was used to paying. Saving grace, my insurance knocks off 20% of frames and lenses! Yay! I will definitely be using them for my regular eye exams. I firmly believe in keeping business in the small towns and going to a "mom and pop" store versus a huge chain. read more

I had been going to the same eye doctor in Houston for 20 years and finally bit the bullet and found an eye doctor here in Pville. After reading Yelp reviews, I chose this place and I am very glad I did! They are really great and take good care of you here. All the equipment is top of the line and very well maintained. Dr Teri (I believe?) was great and helped me understand my options when it came to getting contact lenses. She worked with me on what I wanted comfort-wise and what I could afford and the lenses she recommended have been great. They even allow you to try out different lenses to make sure they work before writing you a prescription. I really appreciate that because it would have been a real bummer to find out after getting a six month supply that the contacts I had ordered weren't compatible with my eyes. I got glasses as well and the gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and was able to quickly and accurately rely the benefits and costs of different features for my lenses and frames. Wow! Plus they do repairs and replacements for a certain period of time. I was very impressed with the service I received and am looking forward to a continued relationship with PVC! read more

I have seen D. Thomas and Dr. Bethel and both are top notch. Thorough and detail oriented, plus both are friendly and take their time not rushing to get you in and out in 5 minutes. Both listen to your wants and needs and then suggest the procedure or products which are right for you. This review is regarding the application of the doctor's prescription. The doctors can be perfect, but that is useless if the glasses don't work. Like most people over 40, my eyes require different correction for distance than for nearfield... So I need bifocals or progressive lenses. I use progressive. Progressive lenses REQUIRE the glasses to be correctly fit so that both eyes are using the same level of correction. AND for the ear of the frame to correctly fit your ear in a manner to both correctly align the lenses and to keep the glasses on your face if you try to look at your feet. To correctly fit and align the frames for the first time, you must sit at the fitter's workstation for 30 minutes to an hour, as they make minor changes to the frames until they observe the frames actually fit, and that your eyes are looking through the same portion of the progressive region of the lenses. When I went for my fitting, they handed me my glasses, had me try them on, and then spent about 10 seconds observing the alignment, and proclaimed I was done. I was somewhat surprised but the glasses seemed fine, so I just took it at face value and assumed that I saved an hour of time. However I realized later that I CONSTANTLY must reposition my glasses to use the progressive field of the lens, and the glasses fall off my head with even slight forward tilt. I realize now that the quick pickup of my new glasses was a bad thing, I did NOT receive ANY benefit from using a real optometrist office to get my RX filled, I could have gotten the same crappy service via mail order. And ANY goodness of the doctor is lost when the glasses are not fit so they work. And *I* am not the expert that is supposed to say "these glasses don't fit". The person doing the fitting is the only person that can insure the glasses are fit so that they can work. I was in a brightly lit room, in front of a sunny window, and my irises are mostly closed under those conditions so everything is crystal clear, in fact I don't even need glasses in a bright room, so I don't even have the capability to see that the glasses don't work under those lighting conditions. The person doing the fitting is the only person at that table that can judge the fit, and he made zero attempts to do that. He/she is the professional, they actually have to do their job for this to work. If that person does not do their job, then all of the doctor's efforts are lost. My glasses work great, if I grasp them with both hands, and align them and hold them while using them. So reading with both eyes requires both of my hands on my glasses. I can adjust the frames temporarily, but because they were not made to fit the ears, I must readjust them /constantly/. read more

There is never a rush... you feel like you are the only person she will see that day. We have 2 special needs kids and her interaction with them is superlative. When my son couldn't answer if "1 or 2" was better, she spoke to him with such understanding and compassion. I had been in a vehicle accident and have some cognitive issues.
