I have been going to MVS for several years now. I had an appointment the day prior to the most recent "ice-pocolypse" in Austin and showed up a little early. I signed my forms and waited about 5 minutes before I was taken back for the screening. The staff person was very friendly and professional. Once that was complete, I was moved to the next room where Dr Michael McCormick came in to read the images and give me additional eye tests. He spent time to answer my questions as he completed his exam and told me he didn't see any issues to be concerned about. He then walked me over to frame area as I wanted different frames and a different style of lens for my computer glasses. The professionalism and care taken to help me choose frames was the best yet. I told her I didn't have any idea what I liked, just what I didn't like. She helped me narrow the frames down to a few, checked what my insurance would cover for each and I made my choice. I was told it would take about 10 days and to bring in my other frames to see about getting some driving lenses put in those. There was no "up-selling", she only provided me the options I had available to me, gave me the pros and cons and allowed me to decide. I read a few of the other reviews and while yes, everyone can make mistakes at times, I have never had an issue here and I believe these Dr's and staff would do whatever they could to make things right. read more

McCormick Vision lost a customer today. I receive email and text from them monthly to book an appointment. I attempted to do so today with no success. Tried booking an appointment 3 times online. The time I choose something a little further out on date and booked successfully just to receive a phone call 6 hours later that they double booked, and I needed to move my appointment. The staff member I spoke to was less than pleasant, to say the least! Beyond annoyed, as the staff member abruptly hung up saying "OK fine", once I stated I would just cancel. My time is important too. I have been going there for years. I will now just go where my wife and kids go. Me can my great insurance cover will just have to go somewhere else. Dr. McCormick your staff needs to improve on their customer service to meet the service levels\quality you and your doctors personally show to your customers. read more

Like a majority of people, I go to the optometrist once a year. I've been to McCormick Vision Source two years in a row due to its proximity to where I lived. Year 1: No major complaints except that Dr. McCormick was only in the room part of the time and for the most part, I was interacting with the optometrist-in-training (?). I got my contact lens prescription and that was it. Year 2: MAJOR problems. I was interacting with another optometrist-in-training. He asked me if I liked my contact lens brand, I replied yes. And then he prescribed me another brand without giving me any heads up. I signed for receipt at the end of the visit without double checking the brand because I had no reason to believe that they would prescribe anything else. The new contact lenses were thicker than the brand I had been using and made my eyes feel drier. This made me change them out more frequently than on a monthly basis so by November I was down to my last pair. I tried to order new ones off Walgreens assuming that I could just get a case to tide me over until my next appointment but apparently McCormick rejected order. "Dear Tiffany, We're sorry but the Contact Lens order shown below has been denied by your eye care prescriber. As a result, we will not be able to ship your order. REASON: Order exceeds quantity limitation for annual prescription." I wore my lenses for 2 months rather than the 1 that it was meant to be worn. By the time I visited an optometrist in January (insurance only covers one exam per calendar year), my new optometrist had to prescribe steroid eye drops for a week because my eyes were so irritated. I asked my new optometrist if in the event that I were to run out of contact lenses before the year is up, would they sign off on a Walgreens order? They said they would as long as my prescription were less than a year old, which I believe is the sane thing to do. My advice: Don't trust your eyes with McCormick. They are neither trustworthy nor easy to work with. read more

I'm really disappointed with their eyewear service since we had great experience last time and i had recommended this place for many people, shared on FB and such... My husband wanted to get a pair of glasses and we decided to come here since when i made my glasses here last time the service was great! This time we were completely ignored... the receptionist greeted us and we went to pick out the frame, there was only one optician who was available and she was helping another customer but after picking the frame he wanted we stood there forever while she was helping the customer choose the frame. Not even a recognition of "i'll be with you when i'm done with her" so i guess she didn't care if we just walked out. since she didn't even look at us we decided to leave. i just said if this is going to take we can come back (just to let her know that we were ready) but she said "well, i'm the only one here right now and others are out to lunch" just the reasons why she can't help us. all i ask is "i'm sorry for the wait but i'll be with you in the bit or other opticians should be back by(expected time)" or since the lady was still not deciding she definitely had time to help us. but she didn't want our business i guess. i felt like she was a bit racist since i'm Asian, my husband is Mexican or racist against Asian-coronavirus, maybe not but we'll take the business else where. read more

Upselling Experts We had just moved to Austin and were a little tight on cash when I chose this practice because of their VSP participation. I chose frames that were covered and the salesperson tried to upsell me to night lenses that reduce glare for driving for only $90. He made me feel like a cheapie when I declined. Last year I went back for my annual exam. AFTER they did an uncomfortable glaucoma screening they said it was not covered by my insurance and I would have to pay them $40 (on sale from $50 just for me for just that day) if I wanted the doctor to read it. I said I knew that glaucoma screening was a covered benefit. I was told yes, but not THIS test. I would have to have a whole second test done, for which there would be a wait, for the covered test. I declined and the doctor read the $50 test anyway. sigh. I am late in my annual exam this year as I need to find another eye doctor, hence signing on to yelp. hahaha read more

Been going here for years even though it's a far drive for me. Last few years I alway seem to have an issue where my prescription seems to be different from what I discussed with the doctor. My mother had the same issue 2 years ago when the wrong prescription was used for her glasses that cost like $700. Last month I went and told them I wasn't seeing that well at night while driving, an intern did my test and than explained everything to the doctor when she walked in. Upon receiving my contacts in the mail I just noticed that they're the old prescription, I called MVC only to be told that was the prescription the doctor put down. I can only assume this place has too many interns doing the work the doctors should be doing and then between all the back and forth things get lost in translation. I will stick with my local eye doctor from now on. read more

I went to this practice for over 20 years. In the past 5 years or so, it has been a nightmare. The opticians make mistakes or they tell the glass manufacturers the wrong information. THEY NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZE! I have had to have my glasses remade every time. I should have stopped going years ago. This time after they messed my prescription up once again, and I was not happy--- they accused me falsely of refusing to have my glasses remade or seeing the doctor. They refused to fix my glasses and told me to go to someone else endangering my health and well being. Avoid this practice. I have never had a problem with the doctors-but the eye glass department is incompetent. read more

I had been going to the McCormick's for most of my life, but the business started taking a steady decline to the point now where I am questioning ever returning. The interns or substitutes I am fine with for a few appointments, but every few years I had asked for the actual Physician since my eyes had to be operated on due to detached retina. Each time I asked for one of the McCormick's I was given the yes over the phone, but then when I arrive and ask if they are coming in they wouldn't be available. On top of that my last two glasses and frames have been absolutely terrible customer service. First of the bad experiences I had to return 5 (yes 5) times to get the correct prescription in the glasses due to your staff error. This last time I got glasses there the frames are not what I had asked for and are totally different, they hurt my nose after minutes of them being on. When I came to pick them up I had told them all this in person and the staff could have cared less after the purchase was done weeks earlier, and put on some cheap pads that do nothing. It's very poor customer retention and sales tactics to charge someone hundreds, and then totally mess up the last two pairs of glasses. You've probably lost a client of over 20 years due to the decline of your business tactics. Get back to focusing on customer service please! read more

We had an appointment at 9:00 am for My Husband, My daughter and my son at Mccormick Vision Source. My Husband reached at 9:05am with my daughter as my son was taking longer to get ready. This is not our first time there so no paper work was needed to be filled. My husband was told that though he was LATE they would try to work him in to the schedule. I reached the office at 9:25am with my son. My husband told me on phone that doctor had still not come into the room. We were told by the front desk that I have to reschedule for my son as we were late for the appointment. I inquired how much time had they set aside for all three of them my son my daughter and my husband. As it was only 9:25 and the doctor had not even come into the room till now. At this point the office manager jumps in and starts talking down to me saying its us who are late and even my husband was late but they made an exception with him but we would have to reschedule my son for another day. I asked how much time do they give as a grace period for appointments and I was told that it was 15 mins. I continued with my point saying my husband was not late and its not a restaurant that the entire party needs to be seated together. My assumption was that my hubby and my daughter can be seen by doctor first by that time I will reach and my son can be whisked in. The office manager( who I learned later was the wife of the doctor)who we were scheduled for told us that she was trying to help( this is after rescheduling my son). She followed me to the room to tell us that doctor is delayed due to some emergency patient and she was sorry. I heard what she had to say and I asked her why her apology for delay should be acceptable when ours was'nt considered. After all we are also paying for the treatment not getting it done in a charity clinic for free. She said why do we come here if we don't like the service and threatened to cancel our appointment. (Such pompous, rude, unncecessary attitude). I told her to cancel our appointment and she started saying she was trying to find a way to HELP(??). I asked her why/how was she trying to help by rescheduling us in the first place and then behaving so rude as to threaten to CANCEL our appointments. Such shody display of power. Anyways before she could answer back Dr Mccormick walked in. He being a thoroughbred gentelmen and a professional apologized for the delay. Told us that he had an emergency patient to tend to. We told him that our son was cancelled appointment for as we were late and yet here we were ok with him coming late. He offered to work our son into his schedule. The Doctor is good but the NEW Staff is another story. We may not return after what happened today. Good doctor yes but nobody behaves the way the organization did and get away with it. Over the past year, I've had a couple of realizations about this practice that have made me think I need to write an update. Dr. McCormick does seem to employ a rotating staff of interns, so when I make my appointments, I always ask for an appointment with one of the doctors (optometrists). I know that interns need to get experience somewhere, but I don't want it to be with my (or my kids') eyes, especially when I'm paying to be seen by an experienced optometrist. Sometimes, they have had temp (substitute) optometrists there as well. I've been under the impression that I have an appointment with a particular doctor, and have had to remind the front desk of my preference when they sent in someone else to do the exam. Another thing that bothers me about this practice is that everyone, even the front desk billing people, seems to be going to school to learn how to do eye exams. So when they start the exam with the machines that test for glaucoma, check your initial prescription, and take the photo for the OptoMap if you request it, you're not getting the doctor or an intern, it's one of the techs/tech trainees in the front. Some are better than others, both technically and in their manner. Unfortunately, I'm starting to feel like I have to really spell out that I want someone with experience to do my family's exams. If you feel the same way, you may want to let them know when you make your appointment, and again when you arrive, if things are different than you expected. I do think Dr. McCormick does a good job, and I do like a couple of the techs better than the others. read more

These folks saved our situation! It was all by "accident", as we were given wrong info when we called, but they honored the commitment any way, and my daughter got her glasses before school started. They did not have to do what they did, and I wish I could call the gentlemen by name who went way above & beyond. I will be returning, and unlike others, I have no issue with an intern doing my eye exam. Update: Um, yeah. So, things are not so rosy with an actual exam and getting properly fitting contacts. Three visits later, still don't have what I need, and they wanted me to come in for a 4th visit. No, thanks. Going back to glasses (which I've not worn in 20 yrs). I was very disappointed in McCormick Vision Source. I found this office through my insurance and scheduled because it was close to work so I could schedule a lunch appointment. I thought it seemed like a nice family owned office with 2 brother Drs. What I didn't know before my appointment today was that I would be seen by an intern - that was NOT disclosed when I scheduled my appointment!! I did not have the Dr. come in AT ALL, Wooly B. was luckier than me to get the 5 minutes at the end with the Dr! I understand students need to learn...but partner with the Dr. on the exam at least! It was over 40 minutes after my appointment time before I even went back into the exam room. Once in the exam room it was awkward with my 2 interns. They seemed very unsure of themselves. After 1 intern finished with my vision Rx the other intern asked if he had done 'xyz test' yet and they started talking low back and forth about if they should do it or not. This did not make me feel confident in the Rx they gave me. Plus 1 of them had bad breathe, yuck! They did have a decent selection of frames but I didn't find anything I was sold on. The guy that was working with me was distracted with other people and didn't help all that much. However, when I asked for my prescription since I wasn't going to be purchasing frames from them the guy started trying really hard to find the right glasses - but it was too late at that point for me! I will not return and do not recommend! read more

They are not honest. The thing is they know I have chronic dry eyes. I can't wear contact lens. Yet they talked me into buying a whole year supply of contact lenses. I know it was my fault to let they persuade me so easily. The salesman was very convincing and I was too easy. I agreed with Leah Y (one of the reviewers), the female intern they had from Univ of Houston, was short tempered. She was impatient. She also had bad breath. read more

Lainey rocks! More on her later. I always go to Dr. John for my eye exams and he has also placed punctal plugs for me, which have helped me dramatically with my dry eyes. I have the bottom plugs and I had top ones as well. The tops were too much, so we removed them and we may order some control flow ones for the top (they are the equivalent to half a plug). He has interns and I'm fine with them helping out too. They have to get their experience and he oversees them. I always specifically make my appointment with him and I have never had any issues. His exams are thorough and he never makes you feel rushed. I ask a lot of questions and he has never made me feel like I was a nuisance or slowing him down. On the glasses side, Lainey is nothing short of ahh-may-zing! She has always been super helpful and accommodating and she has always went the extra mile to make me happy. My favorite frames broke, so she scoured the internet to find my long discontinued Guccis. When they were no where to be found, she helped me find some Tom Fords that fit my face. My sunglasses that I had ordered from here (from someone else) had a clear thin line around the lenses that you could see in certain lights. I mentioned it to her. She said bring them in and she could fix them. She said the lens labs would remove the lenses and literally color the sides in with a black sharpie. She would do it there and I would never know the difference. She did and now there is no weird noticeable edge of light. She is just super helpful and all around great. She isn't just concerned with sales, she is also wants her clients to be happy and feel great about their purchase. This is a great place. People that complain about the interns just make me sad. I think that it is commendable that they help so many on their paths to become opticians. This is where I and my family will continue to go for our eye care. They're truly professionals. read more

i've been going here for years to take care of my glasses/contacts needs. i went to a store in the mall once and they gave me contacts that irritated my eyes, which i ended up having to wear for an entire year until i was able to change my insurance and make it back to Dr. McCormick again. the doctors are very nice and gentle, which i appreciate because i feel very vulnerable without any form of corrective eyewear (you have to take contacts out/glasses off when they do an exam--my eyesight is absolutely horrible). one really neat thing is their optomap machine. it takes a picture of your eyes instead of having them dilated and walking around feeling like a vampire for the rest of the day. it costs extra but is worth it to me. you can buy glasses or contacts from them, or just take the prescription to walmart/mail-in order, etc. read more

I just got back from my eye exam and glasses purchase! Dr. David was wonderful. He was very down to earth and funny. When it came time to pick out my glasses, the whole staff was nice when I insisted on asking everyone what they thought of the glasses I chose before I purchased them :-P Special shout out to Roland who works the glasses floor and orders the glasses. Due to issues with my insurance company, a situation had come up and I was most displeased. Roland went above and beyond and called the insurance company to clear everything up and even saved me some money! The whole staff is so nice and efficient. After a change in insurance, I had to leave my beloved eye doc and find something new. I chose these guys off the VSP list because they were A) close to my house and B) they could do vision for kids 0-3. I wanted to find a place that my daughter, if needed, and I could both go to instead of driving to different places. There was no wait on my initial visit. They took the time to ask me questions on how I wore my contacts and wanted me to try a new type of contact based on my needs. They had me come back about a week later for a follow up visit to see how they worked. I found the contacts they had me try didn't quite work with my eyes but they were able to find my old brand in their system and order them for me. They should be delivered to my house early next week. Yippee, no worry about going back by and picking them up! I took my 18 month old with me on my appointment. Recently, she has become super afraid of doctor's offices but the staff here was nice and accommodating. Ms. Princess screamed and clutched my neck almost the entire exam. She then dumped her snack all over their carpet. The staff tried their best to distract her and had no issue with running the vacuum after we left. Everyone I spoke with seemed to be a great mood and very interactive with the customers. I liked these guys! read more

I have been going here for about 5 years now and I have never walked out unhappy with the service they care about each of their patience no matter who you see. They listen to any of your problems or concerns you may have and get you in and out rather quickly as long as they don't need to have a longer discussion with you. I always tell people to go here when they are looking for an eye doctor however, the glasses prices are a bit higher since it is an eye doctor but that's to be expected. Let the insured beware. As is the case with several of the previous reviews, I too discovered why these folks have such a beautiful stand alone building....its coming directly out of your pocket, no matter what your insurance coverage is. These clowns were very impersonal and everyone except the guy who hawked their eye wear and lenses, seemed to already be thinking about the weekend. I'm not sure that I appreciate finding out after the fact that these folks chose to "test" our eyes for things that my provider says should be done only if you have indicated some type of health issues, i.e. stigmatism, glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, etc., which neither of us have or mentioned having. Oh but wait....those tests aren't covered and yes you must pay extra! Go figure? Do yourself a favor and try Balcones Eyecare before going here. I'm pretty sure they won't pull this crap of tests you don't need, without disclosing first that they will have to charge you for it. And yes my insurance provider has already received a formal complaint about this particular provider. read more

I visited Mccormick five years ago and had a professional/wonderful experience with dr mccormick and staff. My kids destroyed my previous pair of glasses years ago. Amazing experience valentines day last friday.... My appointment was at 3pm. Assistants began optomap tests, etc. Dr mccormick came in last 20 minutes of appointment to ensure my prescription was accurate. Guess what? Arrived 3pm. Left at 430pm with my new prescription glasses!!! Amazing service. I will continue to visit mccormick every year. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO EVERYBODY! read more

Love the doctors but hate the glasses section. I have been going elsewhere to get my glasses but due to timing went there to fill my prescription. When I picked up my glasses I could not see and the lady insisted that I was used to my reading glasses, was impatient and handed me to another lady. Well she was not impatient when she saw a $400+ order when we ordered our glasses. Anyways the other lady noticed that the glasses did not have the correct prescription so told me I could order another for free. For my husband his nose pad broke. He took it there and the snippy lady told him that they will correct it once but then we will have to pay for it then. I will go back to Sams. They not only have better bed side manners but makes sure we are happy. They also try to analyze the problem. They are not on my insurance plan but I prefer to pay more for better service. read more

Outstanding experience! My husband severely scratched his eye on a Sunday afternoon and was in terrible pain. We didn't want to go to an ER where the out of pocket costs are outrageous and we'd have to wait hours to be seen by a specialist, if at all. I called McCormick Vision's emergency after hour line and left a message on Dr. Michael McCormick's cell phone (we are not patients, but our own eye care doctor doesn't offer emergency care). I also called Avery Ranch Eye Care's emergency after hour line and left a message in their general inbox. Dr. McCormick called me back within MINUTES. He was kind, compassionate, patient, professional, and highly knowledgeable. To say I was impressed is a huge understatement. Despite the fact that we aren't patients of his, he called in an antibiotic prescription for my husband and did so quickly so that we would be able to pick up the medicine before the pharmacy closed, 30 minutes after he called me. In stark contrast, 6 hours later, I still haven't received a call back from Avery Ranch Eye Care. Disappointing. Needless to say, we will now be seeing Dr. McCormick for all of our eye care needs. :) read more

Most of the staff was relatively friendly. My eye has never been poked as much as it was today at my appointment there. I was in for a basic exam for contacts and they had to flip up my eye lids and push all over my eye on three different occasions, straining it and my eyes have been bright red all day because of it. I've had contacts for about 7 years now and I have never had an exam like that. My prescription looks great, they are very skilled. But I think Dr.Wolf could've been a little more friendly on the overall. I probably won't be going back. read more

After moving to another area of town, I had went to an other optometrist for 2 years. My experience there was..lacking compared to the service and treatment provided at McCormick Vision Source. The other large, multi-location optometrist clinic did not take time to address questions and gave me the impression that they just wanted to get things done quickly without much concern for the patient. In comparison to my visit to McCormick Vision Source, where intern Alex and Dr. George took their time with me, and explained to me what was going on and addressed my concerns. Even though McCormick Vision Center requires a decent amount of travel for me, the caring physicians and staff more than made up for the driving. read more

Pretty amazed by the fact that I came in for new contacts, told everyone that took care of me that I liked my current contacts and didn't want to change unless my prescription was different, was informed that I did not have a prescription change, changed my contacts anyway, and gave me non-astigmatism contacts for my left eye which does indeed have a astigmatism. read more

I'm at 1 1/2 hrs on my appointment and I still haven't seen the doctor. I walked out of the room to ask and got a "your next" answer with a thick dose of "don't bother me". The ladies at the front desk were friendly and helpful, but it all downhill from there. I'm going to look for a new eye doctor. I can't recommend McCormick vision source enough. I had a pretty nasty eye infection that caused a bleed inside of my eyelid. I just so happened to be driving by this location, stopped and ran inside. Dr. Michael McCormick saw me immediately. (Sorry for the bloody eye that probably freaked out a lot of small children in the waiting room). I was pretty panicked but Dr. McCormick was very calm and examined my eye and got me taken care of. I can't think him and his staff enough! read more

I've gone her for the past 5 years for my vision needs, and plan to keep going. The dr's are competent, staff is friendly. The only thing I would kind of complain about is the set-up of the place in general. I find it odd that part of the eye exam takes place just out in the open where people are walking by. Not like you're undressed or anything, it's just weird to me, I feel like all of the exam areas should be somehow blocked or enclosed. Their frames selection is okay - it depends on the day. I've looked and found nothing, then gone back two weeks later and I swear half the inventory is different. They used to have a gal that ordered really "blingy" frames for women - lots of rhinestones and whatnot, and apparently she is gone, so that is not a bad thing necessarily. Generally I buy frames online or give them a frame number and they special order it for me. read more

The blond secretary is very rude and combative. She comes to work looking like she just woke up. Her hair is messy and tangled up on the top of her head and she has makeup on from the night before. I was trying to inform her that I would be out of contacts before my next appointment and she tried to act like there was nothing that she could do. I keept asking her for solutions because I can't be without contacts. When I finally brought up her lack of customer service and rudeness, while questioning what I did to upset her, she ignored me completely and asked what day I wanted my appointment to be. At that point I asked for her supervisor and she disappeared in the back and never returned. An office manager came out and tried to apologize for her, while telling me that she had been with them for a year now. I work for a business management company and if any of our business advisors even thought about getting an attitude with a client they would be required to take full responsibility and apologize. Nobody would come up and shield them from their own misbehavior. As for the rest of my experience, I have insurance and I paid more for my visit than I did when I didn't have insurance at other places. The doctor was nice and didn't seem to push anything on me financially. The secretary was enough to make me not want to come back though. I refuse to pay somebody to be rude to me. I'm not sure where she thinks her paychecks come from, but it isn't her boss it's the clients. Customer service is the most important part of running a successful business and I will never give my money to a company that doesn't put their clients first. read more

The doctor has an awful bedside manner and is down right rude if you don't want to empty your wallet at his high prices. I repeat - they do NOT listen or care about their clients. Pretty good selection of frames. My glasses came back very quickly. The staff was very nice, but the first girl who did the medical interview was kind of rude. She was snippy with me. I told her my meds and she insisted I have diabetes. I told her I'm not diabetic but she ignored me and asked me type 1 or type 2. I said I don't have diabetes I have slightly high blood sugar. So she wrote down that I'm a type 2 diabetic and I told her I don't have diabetes. The stare down she gave me hahaha. Then when I saw the optometrist, he said oh you're a diabetic? I had to explain about the snippy know it all and he crossed off the diabetes on my file but it's bothered me since. Other than her, it's a wonderful place and I'm happy with my glasses. This place is absolutely amazing. I followed Dr. Wolf to this new location and was pleasantly surprised. The entire office staff is great. They have state of the art equipment but that doesn't take away from the great care the doctors give you. Dr. Wolf especially is very thorough.
