I had family in town and they were staying in the Marriott where this place is located. (This is in the Marriott in Harbor East next to the Four Seasons.) So this review is just for the bar only, we didn't eat anything here but we DID partake in some adult beverages. The service at the bar was pretty solid and I was able to procure some Greater Pumpkin which was on tap! Nice! They have an ok beer and wine list, and the drinks are a little more expensive then I would think but you are in a hotel bar. The pours on the mixed drinks were heavy however, so that was a bonus. The best part of the bar area was the seating arrangements. We were able to obtain a seating area with a TV on either end so we could watch the game. A server then came over and was very prompt with every drink we ordered. Overall they did a great job of remodeling this space. It is much improved over the last space because they really need something to compete with the other restaurants in Harbor East. I see that they have some really good happy hour specials, so who knows, I may have to give that a go one night. Cheers! read more

Hotel dining generally gets a bad reputation. Generally, it caters to tourists who may not be knowledgeable about where to eat and out of convenience, they settle for what the hotel offers. That is not the case at Apropoe's, the restaurant inside the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott. One of my friends visited Apropoe's during Light City and raved about the specials they were offering so I knew I needed to try it. I dined there for lunch and I can say for certain, I will be returning for dinner soon - the entrees looked amazing. It was one of those cold rainy days that we have been having lately, so I opted to start with the Roasted Tomato Soup. The soup was very comforting, which was exactly what I expected it to be. For a rainy day, it was everything I needed. I also opted to go for the Pulled Chicken Pizza, topped with shredded chicken, caramelized onions, jack cheese, and chili peppers - this pizza was screaming my name. And it was fantastic - easily the best pizza I've had in Harbor East. The crust was thin - but not cracker like, and it was so cheesy; in my mind, the perfect pie. read more

Sweet warm refuge in the middle of the Harbor East Marriott! We sat at the huge bar in the even bigger restaurant/lounge/library and were immediately greater by Josh, sweet Josh. He was helpful and chatty without being overtly so, which I greatly appreciate. He kept my Sierra Mist full to the brim for the two hours we were sitting there, if that says anything about his attention to detail! We ordered a pizza and I had the delicious veggie sandwich. They were operating off their bar menu, as it was the middle of the afternoon. But that was the most extensive bar menu I've even seen. I can't imagine their menu the rest of the time. For example, most veggie sandwiches are what, like some lettuce and in season veggies? Not this one, it was on "pump" (a little hard at the edges), with hummus, coleslaw, fuji apples and a bunch of other things. It came with fries that were only ok (truffle oil perhaps next time? That's big in B'more!) and a wee bit cold, but that's NBD. My wife's pizza looked amazing, I wouldn't know thought because she wouldn't let me try any. She said it was delicious, and she's very picky about such things. There were many TVs but the people watching at such a huge hotel is far more interesting. There are so many seating areas and cozy spaces that i look forward to coming back and hanging out. Josh mentioned that they have happy hour specials and a live band that plays weekly. I came here with a group of 18 and the service and food were fantastic. We had several servers taking our orders and the timing and spacing of the food, service, and all were spot on. They took our drink orders first, then we ordered our food. Everyone loved their dishes- I enjoyed my sirloin steak with brussel sprouts and cheese grits. Everything was seasoned just right, served at the right medium which I requested. I thought the brussel sprouts were undercooked and could have been roasted instead of pan fried to give it a deeper caramelization and texture, but it was still OK. The salmon dish in particular looked delicious too and everyone who got that dish loved it. For dessert, the smores bread pudding was good- the chocolate anglaise sauce was really delicious and it was a nice way to end the meal! read more

This place opened in the Marriott in Harbor East about a year ago. I had high hopes after the 90 days had past and a few stops at the bar. Foodwise, this place is fine. I am glad I went for restaurant week as the prices can be a little high. Servicewise, they have a lot of room to grow. We had a reservation - and its not super intuitive where you go to check in if you come from the entrance on the Harbor East circle. After looking confused for a few moments and asking the bartender, I finally found the hostess stand. We were warmly greeted and seated quickly. Then it was mostly downhill. We waited about 15 minutes to order drinks and another 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine and two mules. Really? We actually were so hungry and by now it was well after 8pm. We asked for some bread - that took about 20 minutes. The bread is warm, so maybe fresh-baked, but its strange because they serve it with little butter pads that you might get in a diner - not quite a match in my opinion. Then our appetizers arrived. Most of us went with the octopus salad. IMG_3049 I wasn't expecting it to be a cold salad, but it was. I have been having a lot of octopus lately, this is up there top of the list. I am not sure how you make chilled octopus tender and crisp but not chewy or gummy. The chef serves it on top of a roasted cauliflower puree which added a little sweetness. The tender garbanzo beans and toasted lentils gave a texture and flavor contrast. The arugula and fresh pepper gave it a sharp piquant flavor. So good. I am not quite sure it was worth the wait - almost. The table had a hard time deciding on the second course between the short ribs and the scallops. I, along with most of the table ended up going with the short ribs - in part to recommendation of one of the staff members. Huge portions. The plate was a little odd to me. Two little kale stuffed agnolotti's with sweet potato and maitake mushrooms. It was quite tasty, especially with the natural jus on the plate. I liked the pasta even though i'm not sure how it fit on the plate. The table loved the dish. The lonely person who ordered the scallops also raved about it as well. This did make up for long wait to get started. Dessert came. I ordered the 5 layer banana meringue parfait. It was sweet. My friend who likes sweet, devoured it before I even lifted my spoon. I had one bite. I should have gone with the marscapone fritter with a guava sauce. Everyone who ordered that stopped talking and basically licked the plate. My favorite part of the night was when the check came. It came in a copy of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven". It was cute when the waiter told us all about the history of the author and his relationship to Baltimore. I guess they are used to tourists. Being the group of educators we are, we read the book aloud, each taking a page. Most of us kept the book. read more

This is just not my week. I brought my wife here for dinner after a concert at Pier 6. We are both Poe fans and thought it would be cool to come here. We didn't look up the place before hand but knew from the name and the first look at the menu that this restaurant was inspired by Poe. My wife asked the server about what is a good Poe inspired drink to order and the server asked her what is that? The server had no clue who Poe was did not know that the restaurant was inspired by Poe and did not know that the specials indicated with ravens was Poe inspired. Why would you have a bad ass restaurant inspired by Poe and not educate your staff about it???? Now let's get to the food which was mediocre at best but priced of course high end. Our server did not or could not understand when my wife's tried to explain she did not want Mayo or aioli and did not want it on her sandwich. It took six separate conversations to ensure he understood and he still brought out the damn aioli. Well at least it was on the side. I ordered the Poe burger and it was greasy as hell. If you're gonna do a greasy burger just go to a place where you would expect one. The bun was saturated in grease and the burger was tasteless. We also ordered crab dip. If you want semi hot block of cream cheese with a couple of flakes of crab in it then this dish is for you. I guess the most irritating part is the $18 bottle of Mark west Pinot noir which they charge you $39 for. Talk about making up price margins here. Log story short....take your money elsewhere and when I mean elsewhere I mean where the food is good and the servers actually know where they work. read more

What a lovely secret! This place has not been getting much publicity but I hope this changes! The decor and ambiance ins lovely, especially when sitting in their bar area on a big comfy chair! My boyfriend and I came here for our Valentine's celebration. It wasn't busy at all and we got to sit by the window looking out at the harbor. Mustafa, our waiter, was super friendly and helpful with any questions. Eleni also came over and was very welcoming! Service was perfect! As for food, their menu is short and simple, and all their signature cocktails sound lovely! We tried the Baltimore Blossom and Mojito and both were flavorful and strong. Afterwards, we hung out in the bar and tried the Harvest Mules which were also delicious. For an appetizer, we tried their bacon deviled eggs, which were very tasty. For entrees I followed Eleni's suggestion and ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend the Poe Burger. My dish came with two crab cakes, fingerling potatoes with corn and fennel and some tartar sauce. It was wonderful. Only constructive criticism is that I with there was some more tartar sauce. But the crab cakes were delicious with good pieces of lump crab. I tried the burger as well and it was cooked well! Since we were celebrating, they treated us with a cheesecake got dessert which was simple and decadent! Everything and everyone was great! I've had the pleasure of dining here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and dessert. I usually enjoy it but sometimes the menu has a few misses but I like the creativity that goes into the ideas! Recently had the swordfish and it was perfect with pumpkin! Also tried the pulled chicken pizza and really didn't care for the flavor. The decor is stunning and dim lighting nice. So disappointing...the service was just ok and the food was just short of disgusting. Ordered the duck confit Quesadilla which the waitress said was incredible. Incredibly bad is more apt. It was a struggle to cut it with a steak knife- so hard and tough as well as incredibly dry. Went to order a combination of room service and restaurant items. The food was meh, the portions were tiny, the prices were just too much. Now, not everything was bad. It was the smallest slice if cake I've literally ever received from a restaurant, which would have been fine if the quality was good, but it was dry. Ok so this hotel is on the ground floor of the Marriott Waterfront. The inside of the restaurant is very nice with a darker modern decor. There are more loungy seats as well as bar seats and larger tables. It directly overlooks the water and is a good spot for people watching. Our waiter..... I think his name was Michael..... He was pretty horrible. I asked if there was a cocktail menu and he said they had 2, their version of a Moscow Mule which he didn't know what the ingredients were and an apple pie martini, also which he didn't know what was in it. The cocktails we chose were good but I went to the bar today and there is indeed a cocktail menu with ingredients listed....... Grrrrr. The food was delicious. Being we were in Maryland my coworker ordered crab cakes and I got the crab bisque. DELICIOUS!!! Once we got our food it took forever to get the waiters attention for drink refills and water..... Went here with my dad for Father's Day lunch. I'm beginning to think that the reviews in Baltimore are all paid-for. There was hardly anyone else in the restaurant, yet it took well over 30 min to receive sandwiches and salads. My cuban was luke warm and the bread was slightly hard. The flavor was extremely bland. My caesar salad was very creamy and fishy (no vinegar)- not what I expected from a high end restaurant. For what we paid, it was not worth it. I have been to Apropoe's twice, once as a guest and once as a customer and both times have been beyond excellent. I could not possibly list all the great items I had so I will just hit the highlights - The Mussels in Beer and hushpuppies with jalepenos were both great starters, each presented beautifully. The shrimp and grits may be their best dish but I also loved their short rib. Dessert, from the cheesecake to chocolate cake were to die for. The service both times was just superb, very friendly and helpful. Apropoe's is a good place for a drink with friends or a four course dinner. The only drawback is that it is in Harbor East and all that entails (traffic and parking), but you can get $8 valet parking for three hours with dinner at Apropoe's. This is fairly new to the restaurant scene in Baltimore and a great addition. Pro Tip: Try some of their Poe themed cocktails,they are DIVINE. read more

Despite the clever name, this hotel restaurant is best avoided unless everything else is closed, or if you don't mind paying high prices for enormous amounts of ordinary food. My plate of pancakes was $13, three enormous 11" pancakes on a plate that could have feed four people. The children's menu portions would have been appropriate for an adult, two 7" pancakes and four strips on bacon. Espresso was some Starbucks dark roast, which tasted over-roasted and burnt. Bleah. I was staying at the Baltimore Waterfront. Great hotel experience. Take out from Apropoe's served me well during my stay. Then came Thursday night. I came down to watch the UCLA v Cincinnati football game. Bar was mostly empty. I asked the Gentleman bartender to put the game on. He did. Had that side of the bar all to myself. Female bartender came on... some friends of her approached the bar and sat nearby. Within seconds, she changed the channel to a different sporting event. Without even asking me. It was not courteous. It was rude. Rather than order additional food I drink, I requested my check and left. As I was leaving, I noticed that about 70% of all TVs were set on the other sporting event. Completely unnecessary to change the channel on the TV I was watching. This rude act alone will get me to stay at different hotel for all future trips to Baltimore. read more

Decided to come by for a bite and drinks after an event at Bond Street. We sat in the lounge area and it took a bit to be attended to. We ordered the blue crab cheese dip and the cheese board along with two drinks off the menu. The drinks took forever to arrive and one drink was different from what was ordered because the bartender needed to go and get a different liquor in order to make it, so he substituted one of the ingredients. After a sip my boyfriend sent it back. The liquor was either old or bad as the drink was separating and looked gritty. The waiter said this was normal but took it back anyway. The crab dip was very good and we really enjoyed the pretzel bread with it but after a while I finally had to flag down the waiter to see where our other cheese platter was... he never put the order in because he didn't hear the order. So eventually that comes out and was good- not great. The best part was the rhubarb jam and the honeycomb honey. read more

We opted for the buffet, and were seated at a nice table, by the window, looking out on the Harbor. There were not many options at the buffet, however the food was good. The only meat option was a roasted flounder. Also included was rutabaga, roasted veggies, a bean soup, and salad. The flounder, veggies and salad were good. I didn't care for the soup at all. For dessert, they had fruit with fresh mint. Soooooo good! Very light and refreshing. They also had some sort of bread or rice pudding. I think the flavor was good, but something about the texture turned me off. We were impressed when the check came and the buffet lunch was only $12! At that price, I was definitely satisfied with my meal. Service was good, food was pretty good. I would like to come back and order off the a la carte menu. All in all, a good experience. read more

Flourless chocolate cake was a spiral of too dense cream and too dry chocolate cake. The only thing that was spot on was the raspberry compote that came on the side. We went here on Christmas night because not much was open. We had an enjoyable time and made a mental note that this would be a beautiful place to come in the summer when you can enjoy the harbor view out the windows. The $15 burger with fries looked like a great deal when we come back with the kids. The bar area has a number of comfortable couches and lounge chairs and one area with a long in-wall fireplace - looks like a great place to sit and relax. Some of the lighting in the dining room was odd. We sat right by the doors to the outside and it felt like we were under a strong spotlight. Other tables had a lighted bar about 2 feet over the tabletop, like something you'd see in an old fashioned library reading room. The service was fine, although there was a mixup and the waitress forgot to put in my husband's entree order so there was a long delay between the rest of our food (several appetizers and a salad, all of which we were sharing) and the scallops. We weren't in a hurry so it was OK. The manager stopped by at some point to make sure all was OK. We said we were willing to see the dessert menu, but then the waitress got distracted with another table so we just got the check (we were full anyway). The food was a mixed bag. The scallops were overcooked, and the warm potato salad and mushrooms didn't add much to the dish; it needed a spice or acid element. The pumpkin bisque was rich and thick, but the dollop of pesto on top is what made it. The buffalo cauliflower was good, and the portion was generous. The spice blend reminded me of Indian food, with a definite cumin note coming through the Tabasco-like pepper flavor. The beet salad was fine in flavor, although the "puffed" rice was actually little hard chunks of rice that reminded me of Chinese takeout leftovers that have been put in the fridge without a lid. Overall, I think it's a good place to go if you're in this high rent area and want a relatively quiet place to relax and enjoy the view while getting burgers or a few appetizers. I can't imagine it ever gets too overrun since it's a hotel restaurant and not extraordinary in quality. read more

This was my first and last time at Aprope's. If you are planning to come here cancel your plans and go somewhere else. I could have went to Royal Farms Chicken to get better service. All the food was cold and came out an hour after we ordered. Maybe if more staff was hired to cook food and serve this place would have gotten a better review. I've ate here about 6 times now. The food is pretty good. I've had the Poe burger, marriott burger (several times), Turkey BLT, chicken sandwich, and of course their cheesecake (a must have here). The atmosphere is great. The bar, sitting area, and restaurant is all one big open area. Lots of TVs for viewing sports and news and generally they play a range of good music. My only complaint is the amount of time it takes from ordering the food to having it in front of you. Great spot for groups and live environment but I wouldn't eat here if you're in any hurry. read more

Went there for restaurant week and was surprised to be disappointed upon leaving. I don't know if I had too high of expectations for the food, but I wasn't satisfied with my entree or dessert. For my first course, I ordered the grilled peach salad, which was delicious!! 2nd course was chicken with sweet corn risotto. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was very juicy, but it didn't have any flavor. The risotto needed salt and was undercooked. For my third course, I ordered the tres cake and my boyfriend ordered the bread pudding. The cake was dry and not what I expected (the vanilla ice cream was on point though!). The bread pudding was served with banana and ice cream, it was okay. I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding to begin with, so I can't really rate it. Overall, the service was terrific, the atmosphere delightful, but the food didn't cut it. The only reason we chose this place for our date night during restaurant week was because we heard it has great food... Not sure if give the same review. read more

I travel a fair amount for work and stay on many Marriott properties, so I've had my share of hotel restaurant food. Hands down, best hotel restaurant I've been to. We hosted an event there and worked closely with the restraint staff. They were great, but seriously everything we had was delicious. The Poe Burger, Crab Cake and any or salad with salmon were a hit with our group. They also surprised us one lunch with ice cream from a local creamery. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. If you are or aren't staying at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront, you won't regret going to Apropoe's!! read more

A friend and I were staying at the waterfront Marriott and wanted a quick bite to eat. We went to the bar but couldn't figure out how to order food to go, so we got the attention of one of the guys working in the kitchen and he told us to have a seat in one of the swanky couch areas and a server would be over.... It did not seem crowded in any parts of the restaurant except the bar, but it took a few minutes for someone to come over to take our order. We ordered a Marriott burger and the Poe burger. Not came with fries and cost about $15 each. The burgers were cooked like we wanted and everything tastes good. The Marriott burger is a good, solid burger. Just what we wanted. read more
