My husband and I have always loved Capital Grille, which is why we were especially disappointed with our experience yesterday evening. There were several issues throughout the evening that made us uncomfortable and left us feeling that the service was not consistent with the level of hospitality we have come to expect from Capital Grille. First, when we were initially greeted, a team member approached our table speaking Spanish. My husband and I are Black, not Hispanic or Latino, and neither of us gave any indication that we spoke Spanish. While I happened to understand him because I took Spanish classes as a teenager, I found it inappropriate and uncomfortable to be greeted in Spanish based on what appeared to be an assumption about our ethnicity. I understand that people come from different cultures and that Spanish may be someone's first language, but guests should not be approached under the assumption that they are a particular ethnicity simply based on their appearance. Unfortunately, that experience continued with our waitress. For a significant portion of our dinner, she primarily spoke to my husband rather than acknowledging or engaging with both of us. When it was time to order drinks, my husband ordered two drinks for himself. He was not ordering on my behalf; those were simply the two drinks he wanted for himself. However, she appeared to assume that he was speaking for both of us and immediately walked away after he placed his order without ever asking me what I would like. I was genuinely stunned because I did not even have an opportunity to speak or place an order. Throughout the rest of the meal, my husband repeatedly had to direct her attention toward me so that I could participate in the conversation and be addressed directly. This left me feeling as though another assumption had been made about our relationship dynamic--that my husband was expected to speak for me or that I was not expected to order for myself. Neither of us gave any indication that this was how we wanted to be treated. The food itself was also not quite what we are accustomed to at Capital Grille. Our meal seemed noticeably blander than usual. I ordered a filet mignon cooked medium-well. While the first few cuts appeared to be cooked appropriately, the center of the steak was visibly bright red, as shown in the photo I have attached. For reference, I understand medium-well to have only a slight amount of pink remaining, rather than a bright-red center. What was most frustrating, however, was that I never had an opportunity to address the issue with my steak. Our waitress did not return to check on us after our entrées were served and we began eating. We watched her attend to the table immediately beside us and other tables, but she did not make an effort to check on our meal. We even attempted to get her attention, but she would not look in our direction. At that point, we were tired of waiting and I simply wanted the check. When she eventually returned to the table, she immediately apologized for the delay, which was confusing because the delay could have been avoided had she checked on us or acknowledged us while attending to the surrounding tables. I do want to acknowledge that the General Manager came to our table earlier in the meal to ask how we were doing. However, at that point we had just finished our appetizers, which were fine but not exceptional, and had only just received our entrées. We therefore had not yet had an opportunity to experience or address the issues that ultimately occurred later in the meal. What disappointed me most was not simply that the food or service fell short on one occasion. It was the combination of feeling that assumptions were being made about us based on our race and appearance, followed by feeling largely overlooked throughout the meal. We are Black, and being greeted as though we were Hispanic or Latino, followed by the apparent assumption that my husband should speak and order on my behalf, made the experience particularly uncomfortable. My husband and I are very familiar with Capital Grille and have always enjoyed dining there. We understand that individual experiences can vary and that mistakes happen, but this experience was noticeably different from the level of service we have previously received. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, particularly regarding the importance of treating each guest as an individual rather than making assumptions about their race, ethnicity, language, or relationship dynamic. We would appreciate the opportunity for management to review what occurred and address these concerns with the appropriate team members. We value Capital Grille and would like to feel confident that when we return, we will receive the attentive, respectful, and inclusive service that we have come to associate with the restaurant. read more

My family gathered in Baltimore to see my niece graduate college. After the graduation we all met at The Capital Grille Inner Harbor. The restaurant really went all out for our party. While drinks are being served, we're ordering sharable food for the table. At any Capital Grille, from New York to Maryland each restaurant has a similar menu. We started with a large seafood tower. If you haven't had the seafood tower, it's so choice and highly recommended. The shrimp was so fresh, the same with the oysters. No one really likes oysters so more for me. Mmm mm.. The sliced filet mignon with cipollini onions and wild mushrooms in a fig essence was absolutely delicious, and the Kona crusted bone-in strip truly lived up to its reputation as a house special. Amazing experience here! I took my partner out for his birthday dinner. It was both our first time. The restaurant is huge and dimly lit for a romantic ambience. There was a great selection of complimentary bread provided that we enjoyed. We ended up partaking in their generous pour (6 different half full glasses of wine each) that they were offering. Everything was seasoned well and so delicious. The salmon was simple but tasted amazing, the filet was cooked perfectly to my medium well liking, and the mushrooms were plentiful. They also brought out a complimentary birthday dessert which consisted of 2 mini crème brûlée cheesecakes on a plate with fruit and whipped cream. I think normally it's one of the cheesecakes and a chocolate cake but they accommodated our non chocolate taste. DONT DO TO GO EVER; DINE IN ONLY First let me start with saying my food was not started until I got there and I ordered for a 3 pm pickup. I paid $165 what I thought would be the size of what I get when I am dining in which is well worth it. What I received for to go is not acceptable. It was crowded I had to pay for parking for a pick up order and waited 30 mins or so in an area with no seating and crowded from reservations. Nothing was the size of the dine in portions except the steak. Had it not been crowded and there was somewhere for me to check my food I would have asked for a refund or to remake it. What an amazing place. Mother's Day meant we were lucky to even get a table. The maître d', Tim, was a general marshaling his troops remaining calm under fire. Our waitress, Sandra, was professional yet friendly, and efficient. We planned on eating light: ha! The bread basket was amazing with four different types of bread and perfectly soft butter. Visited Capital Grille on a whim - since we didn't have a reservation, we did have to dine at the bar. While not my favorite place to sit, it wasn't too bad. It is kind of tight tho if the bar is full to try and have a full meal. The Noble Paloma was a nice twist to the normal Paloma! Definitely worth trying if you're into Paloma's (grapefruit). It's been years since I visited the capital grille. I'm not sure why i stayed away so long as at one point this was my go to happy hour haven. Upon my return I learned that I need to add this place back into rotation. Everyone and I mean everyone from the people who answer the phones, the people who welcome you in, the people who bring bread and water, servers and management all treated me amazing. My wife was mad I didn't mention my birthday but honestly I didn't need to. I was treated pretty darn good. I went in for the wagyu and wine night. I was not disappointed. My burger had a great flavor and a perfect cook. My wine that I chose to keep with the suggested pairing needed to say paired perfectly. They even provided the coffee i needed to stay awake through the concert I attended. There was juts one suggestion I had which was the flavor for the tuna tartare could have been a bit better. It was super fresh and was served with a siracha sauce. However, more of the sauce was needed and again just a little seasoning would have ignited this dish. Otherwise, it was great. It was a quick walk to the concert venue CFG if you're looking for a place to dine before. I will be back and definitely recommend. read more

My wife's work took her to a conference in Baltimore and I was able to tag along. She plans ahead and found this restaurant that had good reviews. We arrived and seated in a quiet area and were made to feel welcome right off. I looked o er the drink menu and saw a Blackberry Side at and had to try it. It's made with Angel's Envy, Cointreau and lime juice. It was one of the best drinks I've ever had. My wife who isn't a bourbon drinker tried it and she said it was something she could drink. I ordered the lobster and crabcake for an appetizer and a special for the night a bone in New York strip. My wife ordered the fillet, and she is a ( it has to be cooked well done person). Mine was ordered rare. The waiter and unfortunately I can't remember his name right now, but he was always right there to answer questions and give recommendations. He did recommend the augratin potatoes and they were spot on great. He had asked if she minded her fillet being butterflied, she says if they have to. They didn't and it came out well done and she loved it. My steak was huge and I felt I could have cut it with a fork if wasn't so thick. You can see the picture. It was the most tender flavorful steak that I have ever had and is now the steak I will compare all others to. At the end of the Neal my wife asked about a dessert menu and our waiter said what do you like, she gave him a couple of desserts she liked, he came back with a crème brûlée cheesecake and a coconut cream tart.
