A friend made a short list of suggestions for my birthday dinner, and after perusing the menus online, this was the clear winner. There's so much to take into account. The entrance, through the hotel, into the restaurant with lovely street views. The professional, cheerful staff who greeted us immediately. The knowledgeable wait staff with their recommendations and suggestions. The live performer who provided an exceptional backdrop for a lovely fine dining experience. All top tier. And then we get to the food. As appetizers we had the Chop House Meatballs and Beef Tartare. Delicious. While not "fancy", there's a certain something about the food that lends itself to "a job worth doing is one worth doing well". For entrees we had the ribeye (I was ... side eyeing the price a little) and the Campanelle. The crab in the campanelle was hella fresh and the dish smelled divine. And my steak? Heavens to mergatroid. Arguably one of the best steaks I've ever had. I suspected it was going to be underdone but NOPE. Perfection. (I asked to have it served a hair over medium and it seemed a hair under by sight, but the temperature reassured me.) My side was creamed spinach (served with crispy shallots) and the texture was perfect. The spinach was cooked perfectly and not just an amorphous ball of mush. We had the mascarpone cheesecake and another dessert that I'm not entirely sure what it was as it was something our server brought for us. For cocktails there was a melograno and an aviation royale. Rec Pier Chop House is one of the restaurants inside the beautiful Pendry Baltimore Hotel. I was in literal awe as we walked through the entryway of the hotel to get to the restaurant. Everything was beautiful. We were acknowledged quickly and treated like royalty. We were attending my friend's birthday brunch celebration. The restaurant features a Saturday Jazz Brunch to which we were mesmerized by the musician's playing of the flute and saxophone. The Brunch menu was filled with so many delicious choices although not too much specialized for us gluten-free girlies. I decided on the Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs -Salmon roe, everything bagel seasonings) GF as my primo and for brunch entree the Brunch Burger served with fries - dry aged beef burger, apple butter-bacon jam, smoked cheddar, roasted garlic aioli, arugula (no bun) You can't have brunch without a beautiful drink. I sipped on a sexy spirit free Tuscan Lemon Drop (aplos arise, rosemary shrub, lemon and honey). Our server did a wonderful job serving the four of us. I ordered the rigatoni, and unfortunately, it missed the mark. The pasta wasn't cooked all the way through, it was much firmer than al dente and ended up being pretty chewy, which took away from the overall dish. The flavors of the sauce were good and had potential, but the undercooked pasta made it difficult to fully enjoy. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected the pasta to be cooked more consistently. I came here for brunch this weekend with my family, and we enjoyed our meals. We ordered the Thames St Special, the Malted Waffles, and the brunch burger. I didn't try the burger, but I enjoyed everything else. From the Thames special, I really enjoyed the breakfast potatoes and the chicken sausage. The potatoes were golden and crispy, and the chicken sausage was spiced and juicy. I also enjoyed the sweetness of the Belgian waffles. We came towards the end of the brunch service times, and the waitstaff were incredibly accommodating despite our late entry. They were soon closing to prepare the restaurant for the dinner service, but they allowed us to stay as long as we needed. While dining, we enjoyed a live saxophonist as well as some music from a playlist after the sax player finished his session. It made for a great ambiance. read more

I had heard a lot and have been anxiously waiting to try Rec Pier Chop House's Soulful Sunday Brunch since I initially saw advertising for it. I was unable to make reservations weeks out and was disheartened but I tried again a few days prior and I was able to make a reservation. I guess that makes me believe you can only make reservations a week or so prior to the day you'd like to attend. I love they offer valet parking which allowed us to park right in the front, jump out and then head into the restaurant without searching endlessly for parking. It's inside the Pendry Baltimore which is a boutique hotel situated right along the harbor. Upon arrival, I noticed this was a Pinky Up affair like I had anticipated and couldn't have been happier. They really go the extra mile to help or assist their guests. We were seated and looked over the menu and decided a poem what we wanted. I couldn't decide on a drink so I went over to the bar to chat with the bartender who helped me put together a drink to inform my server. It came out amazing. I am such a luxardo cherry girly, I don't know what else to say. I also love St Germain so seeing that hugo spritz on their cocktail menu make me extremely happy. I don't like champagne so the Prosecco threw me off but adding the cherry juice really made everything great. For some reason I thought I read that the frittata had crab meat in it. When it came out I searched and couldn't find any so ask the server about it and they quickly brought out a side of jumbo lump crab meat. As I'm looking at my pictures and the menu, I don't see it on there at all. I'm highly confused. However, the jumbo lump crab meat along with the basil and sundried tomatoes made the perfect bite. After brunch we walked around the hotel for a little bit and outside to the pool and looked at the view of the harbor. The hallways really give you a Titanic feeling and it was cool but also a little dark inside. The only negative or misleading attribute was this was supposed to be an Soulful Sunday brunch and it wasn't giving that at all. read more

I had the absolute pleasure of going to the Rec Pier Chophouse located inside the the Pendry Hotel for my birthday, and I was absolutely blown away from the ambience to the service to the food , it was all top-tier. We started off with an appetizer which was the AC Famous Sheep's Milk Ricotta with toasted garlic, hot honey mustard grilled bread. The cheese was smooth and bursting with flavor combined with the grilled bread was a match made in heaven. They have a very extensive wine selection and our server was able to recommend a few for us. On to the dinner. I got the Linguini Fini, this was jumbo lump cake with a jalapeño garlic tomato sauce. This dish did not disappoint, it was full of crab meat and full of flavor. My daughter got the Roasted Branzino with Tuscan Beans, once again this did not disappoint. The flavor of the fish combined with the beans was amazing!!! We ended dinner with a chocolate birthday cake which was very moist and tasty. Our server was very attentive and constantly checked in on us. Our night ended with our server inviting us to the Cannon Room, which something like a speakeasy. She gave us the history of the room and invited us to sit and maybe have a glass of wine, which we did. I must say this was one of THE best birthday dinners I've ever had. I should've taken a photo when this amazing Porterhouse arrived at our table but the scent was so enticing it just had to be tasted immediately. It was so tender, juicy & flavorful we inhaled it. Perfect impromptu Sunday brunch with my girlfriends! After my friend came to DC for brunch with me on Saturday, I decided to return the love by joining her in Baltimore on Sunday! Overall, the experience was great - we enjoyed our meal and the service but the mimosas weren't that great. We started with oysters and calamari and both were great! The oysters were fresh and the calamari was cooked well. We asked for marinara sauce with the calamari and it never came (apparently they make it fresh). Our server was kind enough to bring us fresh calamari once the marinara was ready. For entrees, two of us got the Linguini Fini (crab spaghetti dish) which we loved! I especially love that they have gluten free noodles. Now for the mimosas, they were super heavy on the juice and not much champagne which felt like we were cheated. The bonus of the day was the live jazz music. The saxophonist was incredible! All in all, I'd dine again but probably for dinner to get a different experience. read more

This was a solid breakfast before we left our hotel. I really liked the potatoes. It was seriously the best potatoes I had for breakfast. We came for the second year in a row to celebrate our anniversary and our experience was lack luster. Let me start with the good stuff...the food. Each item we enjoyed was delicious and cooked well, but the service was lacking. Ricotta was very good and the sourdough toast that came with it was buttery and crispy but soft all at the same time. Ribeye was cooked well and we enjoyed it. Scallops were well seasoned and cooked properly. We were seated promptly when we arrived, but it took our server Adam 20 mins to come and ask if we had been served. He apologized for the wait and thanked us for our patience so I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, the service continued to be untimely and not near the same level as service as previously experienced. We ate and waited and waited and waited for Adam to return. When he did, he did not ask us if we wanted anything else. By that point we simply wanted the check so we asked for it and waited some more. Adam went to the table behind us and took their order, went and stood by the bar area and finally brought our check about 10 minutes after we asked for it. A woman, who I presume was the manager walked around and spoke to him a few times seemingly prompting him to come by but never stopped and asked how our meal was. She slowly walked by and welcomed us on "Kentucky Derby" day due to the noise at the bar, but didn't ask how everything was. Overall this was a very different experience than last time. I expect more from a fine dining restaurant such as this one. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere next time. read more

The food is good overall, but I didn't enjoy the eggplant and octopus dish as much. There was a long wait despite our reservation, but the bar is open and it was a holiday so it makes sense. Sitting right on the harbor in the Sagamore Pendry offers rustic vibes with Italian cuisine. Service was pretty good! The table had drinks, an app and we shared 2 dinner entrees. The espresso martini was not made with Baileys but it was delicious. My friend said her Fancy Lemon Drop was delicious! For starters, we ordered the Sheep's Milk Ricotta-amazing! 10/10! So much so we ate all of our bread and another server offered more bread. The whipped ricotta topped with hot honey was the perfect blend of sweet and savory! For dinner we orders the NY strip and the Linguini Fini. The linguine fini was served with fresh jalapeños. That garnish really took the dish over the edge. The crab meat was great as well. The steak was good but it lacked a seasoning or sauce so we ended up ordering a chimichurri sauce to spruce it up. But , it definitely could have used a steak seasoning for additional flavor. After dinner, we ended the night with lattes and they were honestly perfect! The overall experience was great. Also, I'm not sure if the valet was for both the restaurant and the hotel but there is valet. I was lucky enough to find parking nearby but that's definitely something to consider. Went to Rec Pier Chop House on an impromptu date night, and all in all enjoyed the visit! My wife and I shared the burrata to start, which was delicious, followed by the ribeye for the main entree, along some broccolini and truffle fries. Not bad, but just not worth the price and didn't leave me with the feeling of needing to come back for anything I ate. I got the branzino entree and a side of broccolini. Whatever green substance the fish was covered in really wasn't needed and actually took away from the dish in my opinion. My broccolini was not hot, almost cold, but sending it back would have left my entree to get cold while waiting , so I just dealt with it. It was pretty tasty regardless. I expect more when paying fine dining prices, and this place didn't do it for me. The complimentary birthday dessert was a nice touch though! read more

The waitress, Jennifer, was absolutely horrible, followed closely by the manager on duty that evening. Our reservation was for 8:30 p.m., and we were seated shortly afterward. Jennifer came over, opened the champagne, and left. She later returned to take our drink orders, left again, came back to take our appetizer order, and then disappeared once more. I honestly couldn't understand why she was taking our order in so many separate trips instead of simply handling everything at once. Eventually, she returned to take our dinner orders. After waiting an extremely long time, the lights in the restaurant started going off, and we realized it was nearly closing time before our food finally arrived. When my salmon was served, it was undercooked. Jennifer told me that it was cooked "medium" (she never told us that when we ordered). While that may be the restaurant's preference, salmon should be cooked to a safe temperature, and what I received was unappetizing. She took it back to be cooked longer, but by that point I had lost my appetite and ended up taking it home and eating it the next day. Even then, it lacked seasoning. The pork chop, however, was very good. What was even more disappointing was that Jennifer never once came back to check on our table to ask how our meals were or if we needed anything. When the bill arrived, it included a mandatory $170 service charge. I understand that many restaurants add automatic gratuities for large parties, but I strongly believe gratuities should reflect the quality of service provided. Poor service should not be rewarded simply because the party size meets a certain threshold. I asked to speak with the manager, who argued that I had to pay the service charge because it was listed on the menu. While I understand restaurant policy, management should also ensure their staff provides service worthy of that charge. Excellent service earns appreciation; poor service creates frustration and leaves customers feeling taken advantage of. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, but it was not enough to make up for the overall experience. Between the poor service, the undercooked salmon, and the manager's response, I will not be returning. read more

People used to tell me the Pendry Hotel brunch was amazing - I finally went with a few girlfriends over Father's Day, and it was average at best. Rec Pier Chop House is the name of the restaurant inside the Pendry. The coffee was good, which I always appreciate, and the espresso martini was smooth. The service was fine, I think there were more hostess than waitresses. My favorite bite was the Cesar salad - the lettuce was crisp and I loved the egg shavings. This was also the brunch where we paid ode to the potatoes. The potatoes that came with the Benedict was crispy and soft and the fries were also perfect. The crab Benedict was fine, the egg wasn't runny which helped in sharing. The frittata was dry but I did love the goat cheese and veggies, and to be honest I thought the table was dirty when I walked in! Price wise, not bad for a hotel. I would come back just for the Cesar salad, everything else was average, but not bad. read more

We stayed at the Pendry hotel and ate at the chophouse restaurant three out of the four days if you love oysters, they have the ideal best choice: they're called steamboat wharf oysters from Virginia. They're the best oysters I've ever had anywhere in the USA. The setting is great. You can people watch and the staff is how they attentive. For breakfast and the lemon and blueberry pancakes, outstanding really, really good. I would make it a point to eat here, even if we were not staying at the hotel. read more

Came here for the first time for a girl's brunch and honestly, for the price, I was hoping for better. To note: The Rec Pier Chop House is located inside the Pendry- a swanky hotel and in a prime location so just beware that you will spend a pretty penny dining here. Coffee was solid- I got an Americano and it was lovely. We ordered the hot honey ricotta and the Caesar for starter and both were really yummy. For mains, we ordered the frittata, the Chesapeake crab cake Benedict, and the waffles. The frittata was dry and not very flavorful- I'd give that a miss. The Benedict and waffle were just okay, nothing special but better than the frittata by far. I did also order a side of truffle fries which were amazing but I had a hard time with the $16 price tag on them. It's a beautiful restaurant on the water so for ambiance, it was great. Our server was attentive and took care of us. I was just a little bummed the quality of the food didn't quite warrant the price tag. read more

We were surprised to learn that the full dining room is not open every week night, so when we arrived on a Monday we were seated at the lounge area of the dining room with an abbreviated menu. The hotel itself is beautiful, with luxurious decor, picturesque scenery, and exquisite service. Prepare to dress up and spend some money, but it was worth it for this celebratory meal. When we mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, our server brought out some free champagne glasses which started the meal off nicely! They made exceptional espresso martinis, and the food did not disappoint either. We started with the calamari appetizer which was a bit spicy but the perfect amount of crunch! The pork chop entree was well seasoned and filling. The filet was delicious, but be advised it came a La carte, so we ordered broccolini on the side. I'd been to the bar in the Pendry before, but never ate in the restaurant until today - brunch for my friend's birthday. We were a little early and our table wasn't ready just yet, which was fine. We sat at the bar until the hostess came to seat us. After we were seated, it's like three different people approached us to take our orders. We hadn't had time to look at the menu any of the times and we asked for more time to review the menu. Then it seemed to take 30 minutes before anyone came back to take our order. I ordered the burger and changed the fries that usually come with to broccolini. My friend got pancakes and bacon. While we waited for the food to arrive, which, spoiler alert, took some time, I finished my drink and my water. No one stopped by the table to refill my water nor remove the dirty glasses. When the food finally came out, I asked for a water refill. We weren't offered any additional beverages before we left. Ok, my meal looked WONDERFUL. Sooo much broccolini! And the burger, while small had cheese AND bacon. I was ready! The burger was delightful, super tasty and flavorful. The broccolini was good too, but was more firm than I prefer. Overall, I like the look and feel of the place (the view from the front will distract you from conversation), and the food tastes great, but the service was super slow and neglectful. I love the "speak easy" bar in the back. It's truly why I come here. As many times as I've been, this particular visit was disappointing. The back bar was closed for a private event so I sat in Rec Pier lounge for drinks and small bites. My server Lauren/Lauryn was nice, though I did have to flag down someone for assistance after 6/7 servers walked by. My first issue is after ordering she returned and asked for a room number or card and held onto my card. For me, that's not acceptable. Authorize the card and return it. Food came before my one drink which, I guess. Honestly the energy and service were disappointing. I spoke with Megan the manager and she apologized and said next time she'll cover a round of drinks. Megan... there won't be a next time. This time was enough for me to not return. Watching the level of service with others vs the service I received was enough to say no thank you.
