    07. SIMPLY PHO-

We placed a take out order for two orders of pho during lunch time. There was fly larvae in the basil leaves. I understand this can happen anywhere but it was pretty disgusting. The restaurant did make us bring the food back and initially only wanted to replace the vegetables , but did issue a refund once requested. Overall they did not really seem too concerned about the issue. We were lucky that we saw that before anyone ate any of the food.

Excellent food! Place was clean and staff was friendly. The portions of food was generous. Tiffany who waited on us was very nice.

Grandma and I came here for opening weekend and it did not disappoint! It was very busy, and we waited almost an hour to get a table, but it was totally worth it. I really love the broth flavor on the pho. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and attentive, despite how busy it was for the promotion they were offering for the weekend. The inside is actually really small and there aren't a lot of tables, so be prepared to wait!

For my first visit, I ordered the Amy pho special- tasty, steaming hot broth with chicken, beef, shrimp, and a short rib- totally delicious and very satisfying. I ordered the grilled pork vermicelli bowl on my second visit and it was a good thing I was hungry; the tender rice noodles were very generously topped with slices of well seasoned grilled pork, crunchy egg rolls, veggies, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts. It was more food than I expected, and I finished it all. Great food, fast service, and good prices for the quality and quantity of food.

So I saw this post on Facebook about a new pho place on Union Hills, and of course I had to check it out. It's in a little strip mall, but really easy to spot because the big "AMY PHO" sign is right above the entrance. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but it's bright and clean inside. Two guys were working as servers that day, and they were really nice. Since it's called Amy Pho, I thought we'd actually see Amy there, but it turns out the owner named it after his wife. I thought that was really sweet and romantic. The menu is short and simple, which I actually prefer, it makes ordering easy. We got shrimp spring rolls, pork crispy egg rolls, and two bowls of combination pho. The spring rolls were fresh, the egg rolls were nice and crispy, and the pho was really flavorful. The portions were just right, and the broth had a lot of taste without being too salty. The best part was we didn't feel super thirsty afterward, which to me means the broth is made well and not overloaded with sodium. All in all, I really liked this spot. The food was good, the service was friendly, and the story behind the name makes it even more special. Definitely a place I'd go back to.

Oh my gosh, I wish we lived closer to this place because it is such a gem! What an incredible pho spot from the service to the menu to the flavors. We were seriously impressed. They offer so many great options, and the servers were extremely helpful, kind, and attentive. They made thoughtful recommendations, checked on us often, and truly made sure our first visit was memorable. The pho had a special, comforting flavor that tasted like it was made in someone's home kitchen. It was easily one of the best bowls of pho I have had in the Valley. We were so glad we found them and excited they are newly opened. We'll absolutely be back!

Amy Pho Arrived Friday evening around 6:45 pm and no one is in the restaurant, that feeling setting in like whoa is something wrong about this place, at about 7:00 pm started to fill up so anxiety subsided. I had the #4 Amy Pho with Steak, Shimp and Chicken which came in a good size generous bowl, good broth about 4 shrimp, decent amount of steak and chicken. Pretty good price of $14.99 for what you get. Also got the Pork Crispy Egg Rolls came with 3 Egg Rolls and dipping sauce, they do a good job with these. Small business owned restaurant, doing a great job serving up authentic tasty Vietnamese food. Not a fancy place, just go for the food Even better, today was the last day of 20% off entire dine in bill

Came by on a Sunday around 11am. Only one other patron in this cozy establishment so there were plenty of seats to choose from. Simple menu that didn't take long to look over. Decided on the Pho Dac Biet and some take out orders. Pho came out pretty quickly and was well filled with plenty of meat/protein and noodles. Broth was pretty good. Nice and clean with decent flavor. Noodles were as expected. Not bad if you're looking to grab a quick meal. Service was excellent.

Hate to do this because I was so excited to try it based on the high reviews. But, they need improvements. I know they just opened so I have high hopes it'll get better. Everytime husband and I try a new Viet spot, we always order their egg rolls, spring rolls, pho, and vermicelli noodles. It's hard to find a spot that hits a home run that it's all good. Grilled pork and shrimp spring roll: 4 out of 5 stars. They were large and plump. Not full of fillers. I enjoy the dipping sauce more when it's more peanut based than hoisin. Very good. Only wish they had fresh peanuts in the sauce. Pork egg rolls: 1 out of 5. These were bad. If you wanted lettuce and mint there is an up charge. The filling was mush. I questioned if the pork was cooked through. The dipping sauce nuoc cham had no flavor. I even added the sambal chili sauce. Nothing. Grilled pork vermicelli: hubby gave it a 3 out of 5. The meat was thin and dry. I didn't try the rest of it but it looked good. Beef pho: 3 out of 5. It wasn't the worst I've had but not the best either. I took a sip of the broth first thing and it tasted good. But mild in flavor. Almost seemed watered down. They did give a lot of beef for $10 I will say. They are heavy handed on the noodles. Service was sad. Only had one guy working in the front and I felt bad for him. He was super nice and apologetic to everyone. It took us about an hour and half to have dinner. They started running out of things and were not prepared for a Friday night dinner. He mentioned that it was just him and one cook. He was cooking and working the front. I felt so bad for the woman that came in and ordered her food when we got our food. And was still waiting when we left. Not sure what she ordered. The table next to us ordered the veg pho but with chicken broth. There was an aroma that wasn't pleasant. I kept smelling my food thinking it was mine. Overall. It's a small place. But I hope they get better. I'll try them again another time.

Pretty decent new Vietnamese spot. I had their lemongrass and chili oil wings. The meat was really tender and the lemongrass fragrant. It didn't taste much of the chili oil though. The pho broth was quite good. It had the right depth and flavor you'd hope for in a good bowl. The meat quality was so-so. There was only one server working but he was friendly. The music was interesting as it kept switching from Vietnamese music to American music lol. The kids loved the egg rolls and the spring rolls were good.

Updated review because i ordered pho to go...packaging is pleasing but the noodles werent all the way cooked and some were dried out. The steak was in the broth instead of separate which makes the steak dry and chewy. They also forgot jalapeños in my soup additives. Im not sure if I'll order to go from here again, I'll just have to go in if im craving their pho so they can fix their mistakes while I am there.

The staff here are so kind it really made the experience of having to wait a bit so much better! The gentleman at the front door recommended a wine bar around the corner to wait at after we got on the list, which was a cute divey spot. The food was delicious, we loved the papaya salad so much, there were so many flavors of spicy and tangy, and the papaya itself was very refreshing. We had the Pad kee mao and Panang curry which were also delicious. For the chicken pad kee mao we requested it to be gluten free and they gave us the same rice noodles as the Pad Thai and a slightly different sauce which was so darn good! The chicken was very tender. When the Panang curry said it came with beef, I didn't know what to think but after a single bite I was a huge fan! So many flavors hit you at once and the beef was so incredible, it was falling part. I also ordered the savory cocktail option (I can't remember the name) which had cucumber vodka, fish sauce, mint, onion, and some other goodies, and wow! It changed my life. Highly highly recommend. Overall would definitely come back here, we were a walk in on a Saturday night and had an hour and a half wait to get in.

I actually…read morejust realized that I'm not even sure if this is the correct location but since I live in Gilbert, I'm going to assume this was the one that was delivered to me. Either way, The food we received was the bomb.com! We were hanging out and watching movies on a Saturday while my lady was nursing a bit of a cold. She wanted something in the chicken noodle soup family, and after a bit of back-and-forth, we decided to look for Ramen or pho. Now that's where the start started, but that's clearly not where it ended. After a couple of different searches, we found kung fu noodle And simply picked it based on a combination of the pictures, the reviews and the fact that they have several noodle soup options that looked really appealing. Ultimately, we ended up ordering the spicy beef noodle soup, and the house special noodle soup along with their dumplings, crab Rangoon's and fried rice. Now, usually I skip straight to the review of the food at this point, but I have to give them one additional compliment. This place goes the extra mile in terms of making sure the delivery experience is Extra level. Starting with their packaging, which, for someone who is infatuated with great design, they really do a great job of driving home the full brand experience! Not only were the package is aesthetically, pleasing and artistic in some cases, but they were also very functional as well with all of the plastic containers having sealed lids that had to be broken open for the first time by us. This was just extra assurance that our food wasn't tampered with on the ride from the restaurant to the house. In addition, the food was extremely fresh and hot, even the crab Rangoon's, which in some cases can be delivered with that wet, gummy effect because of the steam and condensation that accumulates inside of many of the take-home containers that you receive from most Asian food places. I wouldn't argue that this is the kind of containers that you would necessarily keep around as home Tupperware, but the bag that they sent everything in definitely feels like it's gotta reuse or two in it. Overall, we were really happy with the quality of the food as both Soups were portion wise enough for two consecutive days of meals. Same thing with the fried rice, which was really good We got the shrimp version and it had plenty of shrimp and veggies in addition to really fresh rice. Lastly, while I'm not specifically a dumpling guy, I decided to try these because the pictures looked really good on the website. And I can't lie, these were definitely really Good dumplings. Overall, we are looking forward to trying to spot out in person, but if we have to order again before we make it in person, that's what it is going to be!

This does make it a little easier to take any leftovers to go because you can grab a lid later. The inside is very clean. You likely won't see too many other guests eating in as most get takeout. Service is frank and prompt. Ever since some of our favorite long time local hand pulled noodle places closed over the years, my partner and I have been on the search for any kind of replacement. Unfortunately, Kung Fu Noodles does not live up to that for us. You have to approach this restaurant with takeout in mind. Portion sizing is pretty generous. The food itself is very okay. With so many other takeout places to compete in the area, my partner and I likely won't return.

The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!
