Jamaican Jerk Chicken with potatoes and vegetables
Peter T.

I've been going to Amphora, the original location in Vienna and the remaining one in Herndon since I was a kid. I love that I can take anyone here and there will be something they'll love in the inch-thick spiral bound menu. The servers quicky get to know us when we come back. Dennis, in particular, learns your drink orders and favorite entrees--sometimes after just one visit. After you get to know the regular menu, don't forget to try out the specials. Tonight for me was the amazingly flavored, tender Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Loved it.

Walked in with a large group and the owner and his staff took great care of us! The food was fresh, the service was fast and the place was warm and inviting. We will be back!

It has been a minute since I ate at Amphoras, but I was happy to be able to stop in recently before a meeting and enjoy a good hot breakfast. Customer service was great. You are always greeted at the door. The interior has not changed much but it has always been a spacious and clean diner. Not to mention, the fresh baked goods at the front door as you walk in. I ordered a traditional 2 egg breakfast with bacon, home fries, and wheat toast. That hit the spot. The cranberry juice was a bit watered down and more of a pink color than cranberry. I would definitely visit again but order something different to drink next time. Overall, a great dining experience and I look forward to my next visit.

Food was so so good. Everything was yummy down to the lemonade. Our server was very attentive and efficient. I live in NC but will definitely come back when I'm in the area again.

Gyro

Really disappointing experience. I ordered the gyro and the meat came out looking undercooked and pale to the point that I didn't feel comfortable eating it. I've attached a photo because it honestly speaks for itself. We also had an issue with another order. I chose to support a longtime local diner over chain breakfast spots and left pretty disappointed.

Cajun Eggs Benedict

Stopped by here on a Saturday morning with a friend of mine for some breakfast as we've always past by this pace but never went in. Well, this was our chance and from our experience, it was good. The Food: I went with the "Cajun Eggs Benedict" for my meal. Two eggs benedicts with some andouille sausage, and some hash on the side. Eggs were cooked nicely with a runny yolk, muffins were soft. However, there were barely any sausages in my meal. And, the portions for everything was small. It was odd because for about $16, I thought I'd get something a little more fulfilling. I probably won't be getting the benedict again. Maybe something else next time, if I find myself back here. The Service: Service was good! For it being a Saturday morning, the restaurant was decently busy and we didn't have to wait log for a table. Staff were attentive and friendly. The Atmosphere: Very spacious restaurant with plenty of tables to sit at. Also, it looked pretty clean from what I saw around me. Overall, a 4/5. Food was good, better than some diners in the area. Just a little small on the portions for me.

Such a nostalgic diner, with great quality food and excellent service. The banana French toast was phenomenal but my favorite is the Greek omelette that has gyro in it. Definitely one of my fav businesses in the area to support.

Amphora is a clean and very well run diner with a bakery and real chef on premises. Great selection and great food. It's a go to place.

Amphora's adds a nice twist to the Diner scene by adding a Greek touch. The food and service is good, all at a reasonable price.

When the rain started becoming an issue, he actually moved the umbrellas together to make sure Onyx had a dry spot. Really appreciated that. We started with a Bourbon Club and the Nitro Espresso Martini, then got the buffalo wings and she-crab soup. The wings can be grilled or fried and we went grilled, which was definitely the right call. Good char on them and I'd get them the same way again. The she-crab soup was also really good and perfect for a rainy afternoon. For lunch we had the French dip and the Reuben, and subbed the mac and cheese for one of the sides. Both sandwiches were solid, but the mac and cheese deserves a mention of its own. Definitely worth the substitution. Good food, good drinks, and especially good service from Kenny. Being able to hang out on the patio with our dog without the rain ruining lunch made the whole experience even better.

It took some time to get actual service, starting with an ask for iced water that took 15 minutes and then just got ice in a cup, red flag number two. This then followed multiple food issues, poorly prepared, cooked, and bused tables. When I brought up undercooked food a manager showed up 4 minutes later and said that the kitchen was under prepared and asked if I wanted anything else. They tried to correct it but brought out the same side again that was again under cooked. It took time to ask for the bill, and anticipated some kinda financial apology for the service and food quality, there wasn't, in fact I saw on the receipt that they were tracking how many times they filled my water glass, so weird. I wouldn't go back here if the meal was free. Beyond the atmosphere the restaurant really has nothing much to offer in comparison to its competitors in the area. Unclear how it's achieved 4.2 stars on yelp.

SERVICE: First time we just walk in and they couldn't sit us for about 20min, each time telling to wait and do not leave. What could be easily solved by getting us on wait list with time approximation. Next time we decided to avoid trouble and booked few days in advance, just to realize that reservation actually not getting you a table We came on time and were asked to wait. Fine, no problems. After 30 min standing outside( because people were coming and leaving) we came in and asked about our table, confused hostess was trying to find reservation again, after she completed the task we were asked to wait.... Then they lead us to a table with strangers and only 2 free sits( we were party of 4)To cut the struggle I said that there are few free tables outside and we are fine to stay there, and finely were settled. The waitress brought us menus and we haven't seen her for the next 20 min... FOOD: the choice is not very wide, but there are some interesting options. Unfortunately not everything we tried there got a picture as it took time and few visits to write this review. Overall, food is good. AMBIANCE: modern interior design, big bar with variety of cocktails and draft beer. There are few areas inside : big tables ( be ready to sit at the same table with other people) , smaller tables and high tables. it can get pretty noisy inside.

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. During our visit, we noticed the restaurant was nearly empty - for breakfast on a Friday that should have been a red flag but we marshaled on. The place was clean and the fireplace was roaring and inviting so, we felt good about this return visit. The young man who took our order behind counter was not too friendly and looks like he'd rather be somewhere else but there. We ordered the prime rib sandwich with a Caesar salad, as well as the avocado toast with a side potato cake. The quality of the food fell far below expectations: - The Caesar salad had a runny watered down dressing and was missing Parmesan cheese shavings. - The prime rib sandwich was very small, containing only two thin, flimsy slices of beef. - The potato cake tasted stale, as if it had been reheated multiple times. Additionally, the atmosphere was disrupted by a female staff member clearing nearby tables who was recklessly throwing dishes into a bin. The loud crashing sounds she made while busing the tables were so irritatingly loud that my friend and I had to shout to hear each other. The only positive aspect of our visit was the fireplace, which was warm and comforting. However, based on the food quality and poor customer service, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. BOTTOM LINE: a hard no on this LM. I am just surprised this location has not closed based on low ratings it continues to receive. A takeover by a new management maybe its salvation. Or go somewhere else.

The restaurant is located in a golf course clubhouse which was a surprise as the golf clientele didn't seem to match but we were wonderfully surprised to see brisk business as we enjoyed our breakfast. My wife had the breakfast bowl with longanisa which she also enjoyed. She doesn't like atchara but I ate it up and can say that it's not as vinegar-y as traditional but probably for the best as it would have probably overpowered everything else. I was super excited to try the ube waffles since I'm a fan of most ube flavored things. My husband got the more traditional silog bowl which I ended up liking more since I'm actually not big on breakfast food. The spam fries had a cute presentation with the canister but were extremely salty. Water and condiments were self serve. Restrooms were also off to the side and had cute birdie themed decorations courtesy of the Herndon Ladies Golf League.
