SAFETY ALERT: LBGT+ TRAP AMD RACIST ENVIRONMENT: HOSTILE STAFF AND PATRONS !!!! The overall vibe of the diner was unnerving to say the least. Between the staff and the patrons- our party can sense hostility. Mind you, from the way we dressed- it was evident that they're was discrimination. Note: No matter their assumptions- the establishment is not LGBTQ+ friendly. Hear further, the waitress was unfriendly and didn't even want to get us waters. After waiting ten minutes for water, we asked another waiter for water. He literally bulged his eyes and looked dumbfounded. Another man- presumably the manager of the night- kept staring at our table with an odd glance. Ten minutes later, the waitress returns with drinks. She leaves and returns within 10 minutes. The waitress comes back to the table with a dumbfounded expression- "Did I take your order?" She asks. We answered "yes." While flipping through her pages, she finds the page and responds: "Oh, I must've wrote it upside down. Do you still want your food?" Pops answers yes but our sibling and I are uncertain. When our pops left the table to go to the restroom earlier, we noticed more hostile glances from the staff and patrons. The experience was uncomfortable. Furthermore, while waiting for the food initially, I noticed patrons enter the diner and receive discriminative responses from the manager. At first Spanish patrons enter and after a moment just leave. A Chinese individual comes in requesting the time for his pick up order. The manager dryly states that it would be done in another 20 minutes. The patron sighs and leaves the diner. Ultimately, it is clear that Amphora is run by discrimination and hostility. As we decide to leave the diner without our meal, our pops notices something suspicious in the kitchen. Our waitress was handling the food! Such an action is ILLEGAL!! Only kitchen staff should tend to the food. While reading other reviews- I've noticed many of the 1 Star reviews are written by people of color. There was one individual who even felt sick immediately after eating their meal. I'm starting to think that the staff poisoned their food based on discriminative hate. Overall, the Amphora Diner ought to be investigated. Furthermore, they need to be relinquished of their "LBGT+ Friendly" note. Clearly, they are RACIST and TRANSPHOBIC. Evidently they made assumptions based on dress and makeup. Then, the waitress deems to do something MALICIOUS to our food. This is a major SAFETY CONCERN since not only was the staff hostile, so were the other patrons. We could see literal HATE in many eyes. read more

Nothing in particular is exactly spectacular at Amphora. The food is rock solid but not very memorable, and some of the breakfast dishes are horribly misguided (for example, their concept of "corned beef hash" is actually meatloaf, which isn't even close). The service is dodgy but charming in an oddball way. The prices are decent but not outstanding. The baked items are beautiful and immaculately presented, but taste more like artwork that also happens to be dessert than like dessert that also happens to be artwork. The space of the restaurant is the only thing that really jumps out at you: it's got a really cool look on the inside, spacious, old-fashioned but not obnoxiously retro, with big cozy booths and lots of windows. I'm giving Amphora four stars because I'm hosting my wedding reception in their banquet room, which is a beautiful room; because they've been nothing but accommodating and pleasant to work with in the event planning; because the finger food they provided when they catered my brother-in-law's wedding reception last year was superb; because the proprietor, who has worked with us personally in planning our reception, takes great pride in providing a good service at a reasonable price, and that's admirable. Also, because you can eat at Amphora until all hours of the morning, and that's excellent. Also, full bar! read more

I have a certain rule for Amphora's, and here it is: I will not eat at Amphora before midnight. Not because the food is terrible (it isn't), and not because the place is hella busy before midnight (it isn't). No, I won't eat at Amphora's before midnight because there are a lot of better places that are open before midnight, and there are no better places open after midnight. Plus, you see some pretty bombed out, hard-partying weirdos at Amphora's after midnight, and frankly, it adds to the experience. None of the food at Amphora's stands out. I haven't had anything terrible, but everything I have tried has been hovering right around mediocre. I wouldn't return for the food alone. I haven't tried their bakery, but you see a nice selection of baked what-not upon entering, and it all looks good. If you're up at 3am and have a hankering for a not-terrible falafel sandwich, Amphora might be your place. Oh, right, the service. Not good. Not good at all. Not mean, and I've never actually gotten into a fist fight with a server, but service seems to be low on the list of priorities of the SERVERS. Update: I recently attended an event hosted at Amphora. The food was not better than I remembered, but the service was really fantastic. So good, in fact, that I bumped Amphora up to the 4 star level. read more

If you're looking for a local spot that serves alcoholic drinks alongside breakfast, lunch, and dinner, look no further than Amphora. Whether you're meeting up with friends, planning a casual date night, or stopping in late, this cozy diner-style gem offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that suits every vibe. I had the pleasure of being served by Trillion, and the entire staff was exceptional, welcoming, and attentive. Amphora gives off a nostalgic, family-friendly feel with TVs, music, and just the right amount of calm. The ambiance and food are equally impressive. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious, and they offer a mix of beloved staples and seasonal specials that keep things interesting. This place truly is a hidden gem. I used to make the drive from DC just to visit the Vienna location, and trust me, I wouldn't go out of my way like that for just any restaurant. If you haven't been, I highly recommend adding Amphora to your list. And if you do check it out, I'd love to hear what you think. read more

Why ruin a good thing with a tasteless political display? I have always found good food, lots of choices, flexibility to please vegetarians, and reasonable prices at Amphora but on my last visit I was dismayed to see that their prominently placed flat screen TV accosts patrons with the "fair and balanced" Fox News channel with its conservative showmanship full of semi-truths and un-journalism. Amphora's manager proudly told me they keep it on Fox all day. Fox's parent company, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, stepped over the line and put their money where their mouth is when they donated $1 million to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a pro-business group working aggressively to defeat Democratic candidates in November's midterms - see http://theweek.com/article/index/207956/fox-news-out-of-the-closet. If you don't want to endure the propaganda or support the business of those who think it is acceptable to expect you to do so I suggest you dine someplace else until they change the channel. read more

I got here around 11pm on a Saturday night. There were not busy only 4-5 tables were occupied. The server took me to a table which wasn't cleaned completely from previous customer. Chicken soup was average. Rotisserie chicken was not fresh and they only reheated an old half chicken, also they poured garlic oil to take away the smell and also bring a shine on that old reheated chicken!!!! Such a waste on money and I wasn't able to even eat it. Ceasar salad was ok. Greek salad was not fresh and they decorated with a piece of rotten fish meat which tasted like $/!t. Got to eat at this awesome diner with a couple of coworkers while I was in Herndon for a meeting this week. Lovely little place with a huge menu and all kinds of dishes to choose from. I heard that they are open all night too. They also have a really diverse bakery which I think they are most known more but all the food I has was great. The pancakes were delicious and the sandwich portions were huge. We got served very quick considering we had a pretty large group and the waitress was always coming back to the table frequently to check on us and refill drinks. I'm sad to say it but the reviewer who said he wants the Amphora of 10 years ago back is dead on. I haven't been here in maybe 6 or 7 years but happened to be in the area. It used to be awesome here. I think they changed owners. I looked for my old favorite -- veal parmesan. It was gone from the menu. So I got the spaghetti and meatballs. The salad and spaghetti were OK but the meatballs were horrible little things that had been frozen and defrosted. It's a shame to see a great place go downhill when it goes under new ownership. Sad, but can't recommend this place. I might have tried desserts as they used to be great, but didn't want to risk it. read more

It's nice that this location is open 24 hours. The servers are always nice and polite and there is someone to greet you and sit you down. That's about the only good thing about this restaurant. The breakfast is always soggy with extra oil, the meat is never cooked fully (like they didn't have enough time to cook the bacon, even when you ask for well done). It's sad because I thought this was a family restaurant. I think there is too much on the menu (over 50 items) for them to make anything really good. Won't come back here, gave them too many chances. read more

I love the atmosphere at this lovely little diner. Way better than Silver Diner. LIke most diners, it's "okay" at pretty much everything, but not great dining on anything either. I love the option to get breakfast at odd hours, and have my companions get lunch or dinner if that's appropriate for them. Diverse, nice menu. Service is a bit spotty. The Cold Brew was good as well! There is a limited number of tables to eat in at. Paid with Apple Pay. Service was good! #CosmosCafe

And he was nice. The place was nice, had some fridges for drinks and small foods and then had shelves of snacks and things. Part convenience store, part cafe. But was still nice to sit and eat or have a coffee. Good place to stop before getting on the metro.

I've had their regular shashuka last time but most recently, they had a new corn one that was really good. A bit different than the original as it wasn't tomato based. Their bread is a great base for it. The service is good here. Everyone I interacted with was very nice. The atmosphere is great. Really modern but cozy at the same time. I'll definitely be back for more of their offerings. I highly recommend checking these guys out.

Stopped in for breakfast - have not visited Checkers Deli & Cafe for a long time!…read more Ordered one of their breakfast plates: Two eggs (over easy), bacon, breakfast potatoes, and Rye toast; with a side of Corned Beef Hash and a bottle of water. Paid with Apple Pay. Food is made to order - took about 10 minutes - they brought the food out to my table. Pretty basic breakfast, but well executed for what it is. Unfortunately the Corned Beef Hash is the canned variety - but I knew that going in - so no surprise there. The eggs were cooked properly and the bacon was crispy. I ordered the potatoes to be extra crispy - and so they were. The Corned Beef hash was not quite as crisped up as I would have liked... Overall - a good place for breakfast or lunch! #CheckersDeliAndCafe

Once inside though you're met by kind & hard-working staff. Having been here a handful of times before writing this review, my go-to is usually a roast beef sandwich with no tomatoes. So long as you don't overcomplicate things they are generally more than willing to accommodate any customizations. I wouldn't go as far as to say this is hands down the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had but the notion that actual care was put into the preparation of your food somehow just makes it taste a little bit better. For the price and convenient location I certainly see myself coming back here in a pinch.

I opted for their breakfast burrito - with extra bacon - and a bottle of water. You pay ahead of time at the register. Paid with Apple Pay. Food was made to order - came up in about 10 minutes.
