Shame on me for not having reviewed sooner! Ammatoli has been my favorite Eastern Mediterranean restaurant since it opened and I always recommend others to go. Ornate hanging lamps, high ceilings, arches and greenery make for an airy, exotic, yet modern interior. The outdoor area seats about 8 small parties and is dog friendly. Beer and wine only, along with nonalcoholic beverages, but they carry an awesome selection of Lebanese, French and Italian wine. Their warm, soft, puffed pitas are a must with a few mezzas. My favorites are the spicy and beet hummus, mutabbal (roasted eggplant spread) and stuffed grape leaves. Most of the mezzas are vegetarian, rich in flavor and perfect for sharing. My go-to entree is the Spicy Lemon Garlic Chicken ($32). The crispy skin on the half rotisserie is already bursting with zest but pouring the spicy garlic lemon sauce over the vermicelli rice and chicken sends me every time. The creamy garlic sauce is the cherry on top. During my last visit, I tried the Ouzi Lamb Chops and a new dish, Shishbarak. The lamb was perfectly cooked medium rare with light seasoning, aromatic basmati rice, green peas, carrots, toasted nuts, cucumber and yogurt salad. The Shishbarak was a fusion take on dumplings filled with ground beef and lamb, creamy yogurt sauce, Aleppo pepper and pine nuts. Elevated, yet comforting and delicious. In fact, everything I've had here has been wholesome and delicious, reminding me of my friend's mom's cooking. Each dish is made fresh, in house and with love. Chef Dima deserves her flowers, being recognized by the James Beard Foundation, Eater LA and LA Times' best restaurants over the years. Service has consistently been warm, hospitable and quick. Shout out to our last server, Mary, who took exceptional care of our party of 5. Came to Ammatoli and it was good, but service and experience overall was not as ideal. Heydi at first was great for the kids but then she got super busy and each time she came by, she scurried away before we could ask for something else. She was a bit abrasive too at different points, and then tried to make up for it later by asking us questions about us at the very end. This place also has the feeling of nickel and diming customers. We asked for a little extra olive oil and apparently that is 4 dollars (didn't know until we got the bill). Heydi offered refills (which is 12 dollars for the mint lemonade, but didn't know it at the time). There is a sign that tells you that they can kick you out after an hour and a half or 2, depending on your party size. It just doesn't set a great tone. We got the fava bean mezza and wish they told us that it was mashed fava beans. Not my favorite as it tasted like refried beans. Heydi raved about the beet hummus but it wasn't that great. Regular hummus is so much better. Avocado salad was pretty good - would get that again. Ice cream was a hit with the kids. Overall, great ambiance and food quality but the service and overall tone set were a bit off putting. read more

I've come here several times, and every visit has been a great experience. The ambiance has an upscale feel that's hard to find, especially for a halal restaurant. The staff is very knowledgable and always speak highly of the chef, which is a wonderful thing to hear. The food is consistently fantastic, with generous portions that are perfect for sharing. My favorite dishes are the rotisserie-style chicken, the ribeye skewer, and the knafeh. The food all feels clean and healthy. I prefer coming for lunch menu since it's cheaper and the sides are included; dinner on the other hand can get pretty expensive per person. Still, the quality of the food and overall experience make it worth it for special occasions. There are several free 2 hour parking structures which are usually open, but if they're closed/reserved for a private event it can be really hard to find street parking. read more

Wow Yes, that's how I am starting this review. From the ambiance to food and services - it was mind blowing! As soon as you enter, the high ceiling and the decor takes you to other world. Our server explained the menu and the specials of the night. Food came out pretty quick than expected. Both salads - Tabbouleh and Avocado Delight was absolutely delicious, flavorful and right amount of seasoning. Mutabbal, spicy hummus, and their warm pita bread were to die for. Came with 3 pieces in a basket hot and straight out of the oven. They were so good! For main course we tried their lamb leg special and family style kebab plate. All the meat was absolutely delicious. It was cooked to its perfection. Quality of the meat was excellent. For dessert we tired Osmalieh Ice Cream and their special of the night (as described in picture). Both were amazing but the Osmalieh Ice Cream is something going to bring me back just to eat dessert! Located in Downtown Long Beach, it has the perfect neighborhood-restaurant feel while still feeling like a destination spot. Parking can be found on the street or in nearby public parking lots, which makes it fairly manageable for a busy area. The ambiance is beautifully done. It is warm, cozy, and inviting with an elevated yet comfortable vibe. It feels intimate without being stuffy, and you can tell a lot of care went into the design and overall atmosphere. The food was outstanding. We ordered the Palestinian Msakhan which was incredibly tender, flavorful, and comforting, with perfectly seasoned chicken and a richness that really stood out. I loved dipping the taboun bread with the chicken in the cucumber and yogurt salad. I even had leftovers (it was a HUGE portion for 1 person) that tasted just as great the next day. This dish could've even been shared with another person. We also ordered the Shishbarak which was cooked beautifully. The dumplings were nice and pillowy, swimming in a delicious and tangy yogurt sauce. We had also ordered the Housemade pita, Hummus, and the Spicy hummus as well as the Falafel (which I did not take pictures of). The Falafel was probably one of the best Falafels that I have tasted. It was fresh and moist with a nice crispy texture on the outside, with not one bit of dryness. The hummus was also good, but the Falafel definitely stood out. For dessert we had the Osmalieh Ice Cream which was also delicious. I loved the chewy texture of the dates at the bottom of the ice cream and the shredded kataifi on the top. It was surprisingly not too sweet, which I liked. The service was also great. We had a large party and our orders were taken quickly and our food brought out just as quick. Our waters were continuously being refilled, and we didn't have to ask for anything. The server knew immediately to bring to-go boxes or to provide a new spoon so I could put my leftovers in a box. Definitely great service! One thing to note: Ammatoli does not have a full bar, but they offer a solid selection of wine and beer, which pairs nicely with the menu. Also, I think it's kind of odd that the restaurant closes at 7pm on certain days, but you can still make reservations after the closing time and the last call is at 7:30pm. Overall, Ammatoli delivers exceptional food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience. Visiting friends that live in Seal Beach, we came for the first time last year, and had to come back while we were in town. First time not sitting at the bar. The inside was very nicely decorated and I honestly felt a little underdressed and intimidated inside as I wasn't expecting it to be this nice. It is absolutely beautiful inside, very ambient lighting with an upscale modern design, perfect for a date night or nice evening out with family or friends. Our waitress Mary was amazing. She was kind and very knowledgeable about the menu, we took all her recommendations and loved them! She recommended the Mezza trio so we could try a few options together. After her rave review of the falafel and mutabbal we went with those two and got a spicy hummus as well. It comes with pita bread on the side. Since I'm gluten free I asked for carrot and cucumber to enjoy the dips and it was perfect! The mutabbal was my favorite. It was a perfect blend of eggplant. It had a touch of lemon and the pomegranate seed garnish was an excellent addition to give it a light and fresh taste. For my entree I ordered the spicy lemon garlic chicken. It was so tender and delicious and the sauce was to die for, it gave it the perfect zing. I like that they put it on the side so you can add to taste. My boyfriend got the lamb chops and ate every last bite so needless to say, he loved it. The wine we ordered came at Mary's recommendation based on our dinner order. I definitely was not disappointed. From the ambiance to the service to the food, everything was amazing. My partner and I got to try a bit their selections and we were impressed with every bite! My first time here and i wanted to try new things however their items in the pre fixe menu were not my cup of tea. First course was a mushroom soup, which reminded me more like a mushroom gravy second course was beet salad over yogurt, which kind of tasted like sour cream, not a fan of the third course, which was the main entrée you could choose between lamb chicken or a vegetarian option I chose the chicken which was a quarter piece of chicken over some kind of bread with caramelized onions and almonds on a side of yogurt, which I liked the most out of all the dishes, and my friend ordered the vegetarian option, which was apparently the vegetarian moussaka, which was very disappointing textures were mushy, and the flavor was bland the sauce that it came on the side with had a hint of like Louisiana hot sauce mix with some kind of creamy substance but the winner of all these was the dessert which was like a date cake, which came very warm at the bottom topped with a little vanilla ice cream and caramel bits on the top, which was absolutely divine. I will definitely come back again to try this dessert and other food items. Everything took a while to receive, but they were busy, but we also ordered something from their takeout menu, which is different from the regular menu that they have if you're dining in the difference between their takeout menu options is that it comes with rice and two other sides as well so we ordered the two skewers upgraded to one ribeye and one regular beef kefta kebab, taboulleh and spicy hummus as the two sides and this was absolutely exceptional. based on the quality of ingredients that they use here and their service I will definitely come back again in the future. If you're a Long Beach local foodie, I'm sure you have participated on the online debate of Ammatoli vs. Open Sesame... although there are significant differences between the two Middle Eastern restaurants, it's always a fun debate to participate in. I'm one who believes the latter is better. Food here is really good. When comparing the two, I'd give the edge to Open Sesame but I will say that the chicken is much better at Ammatoli. The food at Ammatoli was good, not great. It was fairly expensive for what you got. They had some different varieties of hummus, which was nice. The Falafel was Very Good!! It was definitely a change from what we usually order and go. I'm not sure we'd return, but I don't regret trying it. It was recommended to me by a co-worker. The restaurant definitely prefers people make a reservation. We didn't have one & they begrudgingly sat us... the place wasn't busy at 5:00, when we arrived. read more
