I've had the same backcountry setup for five years. Could never really get it dialed in... had the boots worked on and lifters installed under the toe piece. Each thing helped but didn't fix it. I was pretty certain that despite the bindings being at the manufacturer's recommended mounting point, mounting the bindings back a little would solve my problem. I visited two shops ahead of stopping at Alpine Hut. One shop was openly hesitant in mounting the bindings further back than the recommended spot - they were apologetic but that's totally understandable. ProSki Seattle - a very reputable shop - turned me away while giving me some unnecessary attitude. Went across town to Alpine Hut. Without me even telling him what I was thinking the shop guy there made measured observations of the ski's profile. He made a recommendation that matched mine but had a good, detailed explanation of his thoughts. Took the time to make sure I was confident in the work they'd do. Totally fixed the problem. I went from borderline out-of-control survival skiing to being in complete control. I feel very fortunate that I decided to stop here. I was honestly considering just starting anew and getting a totally new setup so that I could enjoy skiing in the backcountry again. I am on the search for the perfect bike shop...This was not it. Like at all... I was just looking for some chain lube that day...in the move from NYC to Seattle the movers or I must have lost it in transit. So when you go in wait 15 minutes for anyone to even say hello to you because you are not carrying around a pair of skis...and then someone finally comes to you for help and clearly the guy has no clue about anything and just slams down 2 bottles in front of you and walks away to help a skier and the only thing he tells you is that one is more expensive than the other...I think I have a right to be a little disgusted? Yeah thanks guy I CAN READ and COUNT.... Granted it was sking season-I get it-but no matter what season treat your customers well because when it is cycling season that they have a reason to come back. Currently I have no reason to come back. -Unhelpful service -Not knowledgeable at all -On the edge of rude-and dude I'm from NYC I know what rude is. *If you watch the video please note it is the opposite of everything that he states the shop is. They received the second star because of the adorable dog that walks around-who had much better customer service skills than the humans of the shop actually did. read more

Great experience at Alpine Hut. They converted my tires to tubeless and it only took two days to get my bike back. I called another place first and it was going to take three weeks! They are very considerate about cost to their customers. They also give you great information about what you might need as a cyclist. I appreciate this as a new cyclist. My wife and I came in for a ski boot fitting a few days ago. It was by far the best boot fitting I have ever received. The guy who helped us was thorough and patient. He helped us for over two hours, bringing us boot after boot. After he measured my feet I told him about some little idiosyncrasies that usually cause me pain and he listened and really seemed to take them into account as he brought me boots to try. After trying on a few we found a pair that fit better than any I have ever owned. I've been skiing for 12 years and he still had a lot to teach me about ski boots. I'm buying my gear here from now on. If you're looking for a fitting, go on a weekday. We went on a Thursday at around 3 and there was no line. A boot fitting done right takes time, and they do it right. Also, they have a dog in the shop who is a very good girl. read more

These guys saved my bacon today. I blew out a tire while on the bike trail near them. I called and they had already closed, but they said to come on in and they would fix me up. It only took them 10 mins to change my wheel and tube and they even helped me fix the basket on my bike and put my headlamp! Great selection of new bikes, recommend for repair as well! So, I was really harsh on Aarons in West Seattle. (But so is everyone. Aaron's a d-bag.) So I felt it was important to introduce a solution. The Alpine Hut. These guys are fantastic. They know bikes, they love bikes, and they seem to actually like talking to walk-in retail idiots like me. Very patient. I'm no Lance - I'm just a few miles here, a few there, maybe do a century in the summer. But there seemed to be no judgment, and plenty of free advice, and enthusiasm to see me keep riding. (On a more comfortable seat, the topic about which I entered their shop the first time.) Since my first visit in the spring I've gone back with tune-up, repair, and replacement work. I will probably buy my next bike from them (next spring) just because they know exactly what they're doing. Dig 'em. read more

Tonight, I had the single best experience at any bike shop I have ever been to. They fixed my beater for cheap and the guy who helped me spent a long time explaining different parts of my bike and why I may be having so much trouble with it. He even managed to make suggestions for upgrades without being pushy! I will be going back there tomorrow to test ride a perfectly priced hybrid they have on the wall. read more

I was a little apprehensive to bring my 1987 Nishiki that I had just dug out of my parents garage in for a tune up. I was afraid the guys at the shop would look at her with disdain and tell me she wasn't worth fixing. My fears were unfounded. The guys took her in and checked her out. they noticed my poor attempt at wrapping the bars and said they could fix it no problem and told me they would do their best to get her in tip top shape. they did discuss the possibility that it may be cost prohibitive to fix her if the drive train was locked up. I told them to use their judgement and call me if there were any major issues. Two days later, they called me and told me she was ready. $75 dollars later I walked out with a perfectly tuned bike. the guys at the Alpine Hut did a great job fixing a bike I wasn't sure could be and gave me a very reasonable price. I now drive from Madison Park just to have them work on all my bikes. read more

There are some things that just can't be purchased online, and ski boots are one of those. We stopped by on New Year's Eve just a few minutes before 2 not knowing they were closing early to buy some new ski boots and skis. Not only did Jim stay nearly two hours after closing to help us find the right pair of boots and equipment, he was so patient and knowledgable about the different types and styles. Even though we are relatively new at skiing and know very little about the ski gear, he was great at giving us a quick tutorial on what to look for and how to get the right fit. He never made us feel like our questions were dumb and he even showed me the "right" way to get the ski boots on and off. Yes, you will pay a premium for the service, but it is well worth it. I would much rather support a local business than a large chain store whose only goal is to sell stuff rather than help you find the right gear for the right price. read more

Usually I prefer to shop online (cheaper prices AND much more convenience - someone who pays more for less convenience wouldn't be very smart, no?) or via REI (10% member discount often means lower prices, they have the best return policy of any store, and often free store-pickup shipping on things that aren't at the local store). But, Alpine Hut is the one local store I've been happy to support, so far for ski boots + a bike. There are two reasons why it makes sense: - things like ski boots + bikes are important to try out first. - Alpine Hut has a really good support policy - 2 year tune-up policy is worth significant $, so even though their price was higher I factor that value in. Also REI's bike selection isn't very good - many are overpriced bikes that aren't very good value for your money - which made it difficult for me to to find what I was looking for there. Alpine Hut's Raleigh hybrid bikes were decent mid-range bikes that met exactly what I was looking for. The Raleigh Misceo 3.0 is lighter than my mountain bike (so I can bike commute without burning a ton of energy going up Denny) while being beefy enough to handle the potholes, construction zones, oblivious drivers and curb jumping that Seattle bike commuting entails for me. The Alpine Hut store staff are also knowledgeable, friendly, and super helpful. They seem committed to making sure you're happy with your purchase. read more

I had a fantastic shopping experience at the Alpine Hut. The staff (in particular Brian) was incredibly accomodating and friendly. As a newbie to buying ski equipment, they made sure to ask lots questions and to make sure I was looking at the right range of skis and boots. They were also incredibly thorough and took the time to explain things. As someone who hates being sold to and hates nothing more than buyers remorse, Brian put forth the extra effort to make sure I was comfortable with my decisions and that I walked away feeling like I had the right equipment for me. I went into Alpine Hut not knowing exactly what would skis that need tuning look like. I brought my girlfriend and I's skis in, and asked them about getting them waxed & tuned. Not only were the guys who helped me very nice, they actually steered me away from getting them waxed/tuned and informed me that I wasn't in need of that. I really appreciated this gesture, as they very easily could have taken what I THOUGHT I needed and ran with it. Instead, they fetched some skis from behind the counter that were in need of tuning/waxing, and walked me through what to look/feel for in order to determine what I needed. In addition to that, I also got some detailed advice on some goggles. All in all, I thought the service was great! They've definitely gained a customer for life! read more

I came in here last winter for my first pair of ski boots. I have exceptionally large and wide feet; even buying a normal pair of shoes can be a challenge, so I was fully expecting ski boots to be a nightmare. The staff are fantastic, very knowledgeable, and they spent multiple hours with me trying on different boots, making adjustments, fitting inserts, and so on. Sadly I only got out on them a couple times last year due to injury, but when I finally got out on them in earnest this winter and came back for some a couple more adjustments, they didn't charge even though it was technically outside the 1 year window. They also found me a properly fitting helmet in about 5 minutes after two other shops I went to both had literally nothing in their entire stores that would fit my gigantic noggin. I recently came back for my first pair of skis, again without really knowing what I was doing, and the skis they set me up with have been fantastic. Long story short, they've got my business as long as I live here, and you should check them out too. read more

I went in for a new ski boot fitting and the employee was not friendly and you could tell he just wanted to get it over with. My used bicycle needed a new seat as the foam was breaking apart. I was bicycling by the Alpine Hut when I slammed on my brakes and decided to pop in and see how much a new seat would cost. I approached Sara(h?) at the counter and she showed me the new seats, which started at around $42 (I think). That was too much money and I think she could read this in the look of disappointment on my face. She told me to wait a minute, that she might have something in the back. She asked her colleague whose name is Garth and they brought back a used seat from another bike that looked perfect for what I needed. They sold it to me for $5!!! And Garth installed it for me for free. But I left him a small tip. Thank you so much. I am broke this week and you made my day! These guys are awesome. read more

Jim is excellent, really spends the time on fitting and just overall letting you get comfortable with the bikes. I've stopped in numerous times for quick adjustments on busy weekends and they always take the time to service right away. I took my snowboard in to get waxed before I headed to the mountains the next day. I told the employee that I needed it back that same night and he guaranteed that would be no problem and they would give me a call when it was ready. I never received a call so I tried to contact them and drive over to the shop but they are now closed. Since I won't be able to get my snowboard before I leave tomorrow I will now have to pay an extra $30-$60 to rent a snowboard at the mountain or not go at all. I know it was a last minute request and would have been understanding if they told me it wouldn't have been ready in time. However, since they guaranteed it would be ready I am very upset that I will now have to find an alternate solution UPDATE: Went in to pick up my board and Kyle couldn't have been nicer. He continually apologized, explained what happened, and even helped me out because of the additional money I had to pay to rent a board. Alpine Hut continues to deliver as the place to go for quality bikes and service. Not only is my bike still going strong two years later, but they continue to care for her with love and attention. They really understand the unique connection between a girl and her bike. To pull my bike from storage my old building was demanding proof of ownership die to a change in management at the apartment complex. I was forced to come into Alpine Hut to get a new copy. Unfortunately my purchase was before they computerized records, but they were willing to pull receipts from storage and let me dig through them to find my proof! They even offered to sort through and find it, but explained it wouldn't be that day, which I found understandable. I was totally blown away. This is due customer service. Every time I come in here I'm embraced like family. They know bikes and they know people really well. Kyle not only picked out a great pair of boots after asking a bunch of questions, but was able to fit them so they feel great to wear. I came back over half a year later to get my new bindings put on my skis. Since I had bought my boots there, the fee was supposed to be half the price. I had no receipt, threw away the box and had no proof that I had purchased the boots there. I've been buying from the Hut for years and have always appreciated the service and knowledge I've received but It wasn't until recently that I truly realized the gem that is the Alpine Hut. I bought a new pair of Lange race boots online (bad idea) and I took them to Kyle to get them fit. Kyle spent a lot of time with me carefully measuring my foot and assessing my stance and ended up fitting the boot perfectly. My new boots fit perfectly and I love them, and Langes can be really tough to fit. I would highly recommend the Alpine Hut to anyone looking for a local place to go for the best ski and bike sales and service. Anyone can sell you gear but the gang at the Hut truly cares about what they sell and they know what they're taking about. read more

Jim (the boot fitter) walked me through 8 pairs (at least) before narrowing down the right fit. He was super patient, extremely knowledgeable, and demonstrated foresight in helping make a selection. All this without any upsell or any sign of disinterest (he sat with me 45 min after store close on Friday night). It was very impressive that he applied my feedback to the millimeter to get right fit. Kyle (the owner) is pretty funny btw and for me summed up what this store is about "we are bootfitters by profession not sellers". Very impressive - highly recommend! read more

(I was standing with a pair of skis to be serviced.). I remember the same experience 5-7 years ago & vowed never to return. But I got a coupon for 25% off a tune up, so I thought I'd give them another try. Exactly the same. Never again. Not sure how this shop is still in business! read more

The Alpine Hut was exceptionally helpful in my recent bike purchase. I looked at several different bikes and Kyle was extremely patient as I test rode about a half a dozen. I looked at multiple bike stores around and no store came close to the customer service I received at the Alpine Hut. Not to mention their in store warranty on bikes is hands down better than any other store in the area, including the big national chains. I also bought new ski boots and bindings this last winter and received the same type of service. They've created a great atmosphere, laid back and not pushy, while being extremely knowledgeable all the while. If you need winter gear or bike equipment, you have to go here. read more
