Poke in Long Beach, California... Poke is not my favorite food. However, if it's free, I might eat it... haha! I had entered a contest on Instagram and won two free large poke bowls at ahipoki. Thanks to Raina Huang (@rainaiscrazy) for a nice dinner! There are several ahipoki locations. Long Beach was our choice... There was a shared parking lot, convenient restroom, air conditioning, and pleasant decor. Service was patient, friendly, and helpful. Our server made great suggestions and even encouraged us to choose more toppings which were included. The bowl looked full to me, so I thought that I had enough. I picked half brown rice and half kelp noodles for my base. The kelp noodles were tastefree and on the crunchy side... unusual. I'm glad that i tried it. However, I liked the brown rice more because it held onto the sauces better. For my three proteins, I got the salmon, shrimp, and Tuna luau which is a mixture of ahi, avocado, and chopped onions. The quality of the fish could be better. I saw "strings" in the ahi and I felt them as I chewed. I prefer smooth, firm texture. I understand that poke isn't sashimi. I got the House sauce, mixed with some garlic sauce. My add-ins were edamame, imitation crab, and Furikake. Everything was alright! Thanks to Craig for going with me to use one of the free vouchers! My God. I am STUFFED, but I am set on finishing the bowl after I'm done typing this. To be fair, this was the first place I had poke and have only had it at one other place. Still, I'll confidently say this is probably as good as it gets. They serve well, have fresh items, and even the staff take pride in what they do! I've had the shrimp, octopus, tuna, salmon, and the teriyaki chicken. All great items that you should try. Please, if you've been afraid to try poke, I implore that you take a chance on this place. I want to see it open for a long time. The vibe and interior design are just I don't know... I'd say Hawaii but I've never been. Come already! Where else can you get good teriyaki for $10 nowadays? Best Poke in the area. The service is exceptional great due to the professionalism and cheerful disposition of their employees. However, management could learn a few things from their employees. This is my favorite poke place in the area. I came in during their BOGO deal and was blown away by the quality and taste. Unfortunately, after having a baby, I don't get too far away from my house all that often anymore, so this is hard to get to. I was told that another place by my house had great poke, but when I tried it I was disappointed. Last night, I finally made it out and to the gym, and Ahipoki was on the way home. Hooray! We stopped in and I got the same thing -- half and half (brown rice and spring mix) with two scoops of Hawaiian tuna (lots of avocado chunks) and all the fixings. This photo is their 3 scoop meal, we also tried the grilled salmon and the portions were so generous. For the price is it really good, I ate about 1/4 of the grilled salmon bowl and I was so full. Live close by & have been here a few times. Today I got the 3 scoop bowl, with taxes ended up being about $17 or so. Definitely a splurge for a solo lunch. I got 2 scoops of salmon & 1 scoop luau tuna with half rice & half salad. You can choose which sauce base in additional to many sides to add into the bowl. Fully customized how you want it. Definitely yummy. I was pretty full after might be ok with 2 scoop next time. The other poke spot at the hangar is my other local go-to. read more

Usually I don't have problems with poke joints, but not sure what happened with the staff lately. I came in for a 3 scoop poke bowl (around $14). There is a sign for seared poke, so I opted for that and I tell her I want the salmon seared. I proceed and see that the girl skimps a bit overall on everything. After everything is chosen, she tells me to wait until my fish is ready. I then wait and see her stirring something on the grill! She puts my bowl in the bag and I pick it up and head out because I'm in a hurry. I get home and see that ALL my fish is no longer raw. It's fully cooked! wow. If I wanted cooked fish, I wouldn't be going to a poke or sushibar. Very disappointed. I think the staff needs to be retrained or educated about sashimi, sushi, etc read more

I found this place on a whim because my two go-to Poke places happened to be closed on the same day. It's in a super convenient location with parking separate from the crazy Ralph's lot. Their space is really clean; welcoming, and friendly! Onto the food, their poke is delicious. I only ever get tuna, (which was great) but they also have other fish available that a lot of people seem to love. In fact, their fish looked so good that I ventured out and got a scoop of the Tuna Luau which I highly recommend. They also have a multitude of toppings to keep it plain and traditional or to satisfy your cravings. Lastly I decided to try their Tropical Lemonade not knowing what it would taste like, and to my surprise it tasted like a very fresh homemade version of hawaiian sun's lilikoi passion. Overall am super glad I found this place and will be back soon. read more

Staff was really great and friendly. It was a decent Poke bowl but there was not much flavor. I got two sauces and even then it tasted pretty bland. Enjoyed every bite. If I had a biscuit, I would have wiped my bowl clean. After visiting Hawaii on vacation, I was in the mood for some poke and this place hit the spot. I ordered 3 scoops and went with the Hawaiian Crab Salad, Sweet Glazed Salmon and the Tuna Lua. After adding on the base sauces, toppings, finishing sauces and chili powder, I was in heaven. I like to taste a couple of the items unmixed, then I get impatient and mix lots of together to marry the flavors. Sweet, tangy, spicy and savory nodes throughout the bowl. I'm a pretty good eater and this bowl filled me up. I waffled on adding musubi, but I'm glad I didn't. It would have made me too full. Maybe next time I'll get 2 scoops with musubi. I can forgive a lot of things for a place that has yellowtail. The fish is fresh fresh and the sauces - i got creamy spicy and sweet citrus - are amazing and not too hot. Very flavorful. My husband got the burrito and he really liked it! The unagi musubi is something i haven't seen before and the slabs were very generous! The eel didn't have any bones either. We got the waikiki drink and it was VERY refreshing. Fruity and nice. I want to try the tropical next time. The problem is, the prices are INSANE. At poke & co, you get a large 5 scoops for $13. And yeah they have yellowtail too. Here, you get 3. The regular has 2. That is grossly overpriced. And they are pretty skimpy on the sauce. They don't offer to put it on the rice, but im sure you can ask for it. So for what you pay, kinda tightfisted. They were quite generous with the other toppings tho, but i never get anything so i don't know for sure. I think that's what sets them apart from other poke establishments. All poke places should offer kelp noodles! The Positives: Very organized, very clean, very friendly service. Standing in front of the poke all the fish looked bright and fresh. Rice was on point and there is a lot of variety of toppings. The Negatives: 1. My server (I'm guessing owner/manager/both) although SUPER PLEASANT AND FRIENDLY was very skimpy on the portion scoops (very small, maybe a 1/2 Tbsp size scoop of fish). I had to upgrade from reg. to large because the portion was so small. 2. The Luau tuna was bland, Spicy salmon was not spicy (which was ok, because I added my own spicy afterward). 3. Almost choked on a fish bone. Yes, there are bones in fish,but having fish bones is not a good thing in your poke. 4. It's not cool to chew on onion peels either while trying to enjoy your poke bowl. I'm really not trying to write a negative review, just stating some facts. Maybe it was just a one time thing, but sometimes it's all that it takes. I'm a little unsure of all the negative reviews here but I had a very positive experience! The food was great and the service was good. The workers were very welcoming and helpful. I ordered a few custom poke bowls and there are a variety of toppings to choose from! The salmon and tuna seemed very fresh. Other than the custom bowls I also got the salmon bowl which was very good! I ordered rice as its base. There is a ton of rice in each dish so I'd recommend doing half rice and another base for the other half. Ahipoki also has a lot of unique drinks. Don't come here. First off, the portions are extremely small. I got a regular bowl (comes with 2 scoops of protein) and was very disappointed to see how small it was. The total came out to be ~11, which is ridiculous for how little they give you. However, the main issue isn't the price - it's the service. I came with my cousin and she was ahead of me in line. The cashier mixed up our bowls (we had different proteins) and put all of my cousin's topping choices on my bowl. After pointing it out, the cashier simply took a pair of tongs and proceeded to remove the toppings from my bowl and haphazardly dumped it all into my cousin's bowl. She didn't do a good job of taking everything out so my bowl was left with some toppings and sauces I didn't even choose. Here's what upset me about the whole thing. She didn't even offer to start my bowl over from the beginning. She just left it like that, with the rice soaked in sauces I didn't choose and leftover toppings from my cousin's bowl. This has happened to me at another poke chain before and the cashier apologized and offered to replace my rice and proteins. Instead, the cashier here just proceeded to ask me what I wanted and kept going like nothing was wrong. It's a really good thing I'm not allergic to anything or there would've been some issues. She also messed up my cousin's choices of proteins (gave her the tuna luau instead of the normal tuna) and just rushed us along even though my cousin tried to point it out to her multiple times. She basically ignored her the whole time. In the end, we just decided to pay and leave because it clearly wasn't worth the trouble. The worst part is that the poki wasn't even worth what we paid. The cashier put too much sauce in my rice so it was extremely overwhelming. This could've been avoided if she had replaced my rice after messing up earlier. But instead, it was soaked with sauces (that I didn't even choose) so I couldn't even taste anything else. I definitely don't recommend coming here. It's not worth it when there are so many other great poki places to choose from. read more

I come here ALL the time (at least 3 or 4 times a month). I usually come on Tuesdays or Fridays before meeting friends for our weekly cigar night across at the Bean. The food is fresh and healthy, they have a great salmon and staff is friendly...USUALLY. Today not so much. I ordered what I usually order, salmon salad, everything mixed. If fact I eat here often enough, if the owner sees me walk in, even if there's a line, she'll ask if I want the salmon, so they can get it in the grill, because it takes awhile to cook. I usually grab the front table, eat, listen to my music and read, enjoying a leisurely relaxing dinner after a "tough day" at the office. Today (Tues, 11/12/19 4:00 pm) I ordered the same thing. A tall young lady who has helped me often started the order and then passed it to a smaller Asian young lady (they aren't wearing name badges). As she's asking me questions about toppings, I said I wanted the toppings mixed in as well. She said, "We don't really mix those in because they get stuck to "something" (I don't remember what she said here). I told her pleasantly, "Sure, you do. I come here all the time and I get this all the time.". She said, "We don't because it gets..." I cut her off and said, "I get this all the time.". She said, "Well we're supposed to tell you." with this sarcastic smirk on her face. "It sticks to...". I said, "I don't want to argue with you. I'd like you to do as I ask." and I walked to the register. When I look back, she places the toppings the way SHE wanted. At this point I decided to mix it myself and not deal with her anymore. As those of you who read my reviews know I believe food is objective, service is not. The food here is really good, but not good enough to endure poor service or sarcastic servers. The are plenty of Poki places in Long Beach. I have enjoyed coming here and, up till now, the staff has been courteous, pleasant and on point. Disappointing. You get your choice of white or brown rice and three choices of poke toppings and sauces. I went basic with white rice , tuna, salmon and albacore with some edamame, crab salad and furikake to top it off. Everything was good and fresh. The staff was so friendly and helpful the gal was great who helped us she was very encouraging and seemed like we needed more stuff in the bowl lol. AhiPoke is just okay. Not great, but not the worst. The garlic soy mirin sauce was good, but the tuna and masago were bland and the pickled ginger was dry. I'm super disappointed because I'm missing 5 toppings from my order: cucumber, furikake, daikon sprout, sesame seed, and mixed crisps. The restaurant wrote on the plastic bowl that they were out of cucumber, which is understandable. But it was frustrating to be missing so many others without a note or anything. This is a chain poke place, similar to Poke Bar. It currently has nine locations in California and is still expanding. It's your typical "build your own" poke place and I can't think of too many things to distinguish this place from any other poke place. The main thing that stood out for me about this place was the price. It's more expensive than other places. Its large bowl only has three scoops of protein and it charges about $12. Most other places give five scoops of protein for that price. It also charges $1 for avocado and tamago. I have been here twice so far and the food has been fine. However, I just can't find enough unique things about this place (other than the high price) to give anything above three stars.
