ahipoke...i wanna like you. i do. discovered you after I'd finished a trip to the local grocery store and wanted to grab a bite to eat. line wasn't too long so I figured I'd pull the trigger. my first visit was rather pleasant a lovely older Japanese man made my plate and sent me on my way no complaints. I've been back twice since then, and both additoonal times, I was served by a young white male whose policing of portion control was rather outrageous. He seemed new so I tried to be patient and understanding. I don't like a lot of toppings on my poke so the first time when I requested my three toppings he literally with the tip of the tongs took a pinch of cilantro for my entire three protein plate and one tiny scoop of edamame. I had to keep asking him for another portion. I dealt with it paid for my food and went on about my day. my third trip I had hoped I wouldn't have the same server but lo and behold it was him again again with the food rationing. I wonder if he's aware that this meal is 12 to $13. so again we go down the line I tell him my toppings but this time I decided to assert myself a little bit and ask how much or how many scoops of toppings am I entitled to. luckily a young woman who was also working there who he looked to for guidance chimed in nine scoops. so then I had to reiterate to him okay well can I get three of each topping that I'm asking for a decent amount of cilantro if somebody's asking for cilantro they don't want one leaflet of cilantro. anyway if I do venture back and I do see that he is on meal prep I'll probably skip the place all together. there's another local place here downtown that is rather generous with toppings. The food was a little weird I admit, but just being different doesn't mean bad; I still enjoyed expanding my flavor palette with new textures and foods. Well I know where I won't be visiting next time I have a long break between clients in Long Beach! For $11 after tax for the small size you really get ripped off. Small is 2 scoops! Which she maybe got 3 pieces of fish in the scoop! Hardly any rice. Slump on toppings. Slump on sauce. I was actually scraping the container for every last piece of rice because my hunger was not in any way satisfying. Heard good things about this place, but was kinda disappointed when it came down to it. The decor is modern and cute, clean and the staff was very nice and friendly, but my poke bowl was kinda blah. The tuna lua I got was chewy and stringy, and the sauces I got on top were bland. It literally tasted like plain mayo on it. The veggies were good and fresh, but maybe I just got a bland batch of tuna this time it just seemed mediocre. Might try it again sometime down the line, but eh. read more

I've been coming here since it opened and I have never been disappointed until now. I have been ordering handrolls for the last 3 months like twice a month and have been able to add what really makes a handroll like crab, and avocado and ita beyond delicious. The experience I just had was very disappointing in the fact as she was rolling my handroll she added the rice, spicy tuna and asked if I wanted to add cucumbers in which I said ok. She then started to do the final roll and that's when I got confused because I still wanted to add a little crab and avocado. I asked her if I could add the crab and avocado but was told that I wasn't Ble to do that because the owner changed the way they are made about a month ago but I have been in recently and I was able to make a true handroll. I should be able to add a few things to my handrolls. read more

This is my favorite Poke place in California. I live in Utah and travel to California quite often for work. Whenever I am in the Long Beach area I make sure that I visit Ahipoki. for a chipotle style poke place in long beach, this is my go to spot. it's a mile from my apt and csulb so i'd come here after classes! it's a bit more pricey than other places in the area but i love their blazing salmon and tuna luau options. they have a wide variety of toppings and sauces which i really enjoy. i found that this place offers really good flavors in their sauces and their fish is always good quality and fresh. this is why i prefer this place from others. introduced this place to my friends and they even said they really liked this place as well! read more

Walked in after a long day at work, Wednesday afternoon, 15 minutes before closing. Immediately I felt like that guy (anyone who's worked retail before knows what I mean). The guy who comes in at the tail end of closing while you're busy trying to clean up and makes everything 10x worse. I sheepishly asked if the food was being put away but was told that they were just cleaning up. Feeling like a complete jerk but a hungry one nonetheless, I work my way down the topping line until my order is complete. I let out an audible sigh and run my hands through my hair. "Long day huh?" I'm a little taken aback and I look to the cashier. She smiles and humors me as we talk about how stupidly long February seems and how glad we were that it was almost over. Suddenly my mood seems lifted and I leave the shop with a smile on my face. I check the receipt and see a name, "Margaret D". tl;dr Was having a shit month, a long day, and a small random act of kindness from an employee made things seem a little less shittier. I have to say, my mom and I recently got into poke and when we found one near our workplace we were curious. Top notch service and great food. I strongly recommend the Tuna Luau (tuna mixed with avocado chunks). My mom and I always leave with our sushi-like fish craving satisfied. Since we started working in Long Beach, we hadn't found a sushi place that we liked in food and in service. For the price of 3 scoops, you definitely get your fill more so than if you got one sushi roll for the same price. Overall, I like the good vibes and atmosphere there. It has become our go-to at least for once a week so we don't overkill. Good poke in Long Beach and would recommend it to any raw fish lover. My fiance and I are here at LEAST once a week, if not more. They have incredibly fresh seafood and large sizes for such an affordable price. The line is usually out the door, but it is worth the weight for us. The staff is always super friendly and while I never need to, they always let customers sample different menu items. I like this place but the way the ahi tunas are cut is way too big, in my opinion. I like to eat Poke that are smaller cuts not big chunks of ahi tuna, it kinda takes away from the flavors of the sauce and other condiments that come with the bowl. The sauce flavors are great, the brown rice is cooked perfect but the miso soup taste like water and salt. The spicy tuna was wayyyyy to fishy, like the taste you get when fish has been (expired). YUM DOT COM! This is the kind of great food to put the fast food businesses out of business! Very fresh seafoods, great toppings and sauces! Had the large half and half with luau tuna, salmon and Kimchi shrimp(don't worry not too spicy at all), added the avocado. For the salad I had the house dressing with some spicy house and creamy something, was awesome! Didn't need that much rice maybe I'll do no rice next time the salad was so good! The tropical drink went perfect with it. You get to make it all anyway you want can't go wrong really. They are very nice and helpful with first timers it's really easy. 1st pick the base, (salad, rice or half and half), then the pokes(yummy and fresh), then all the other goodies and sauces. I came into Ahipoki Bowl on a weekday around noon and found that there wasn't a line. With a craving for poke, I came to the closest place to my office. I found their range of options to be interesting, I had to try the kimchi shrimp. This was alright, maybe even a bit strange. Cut up raw fish seemed to be more pleasing. Everything seemed to be about your standard poke bowl. Nothing to wow me here as I've ventured to many poke places throughout Orange County and found better quality elsewhere. This is a solid poke place. Last night my gf and I went. The customer service was great. They were friendly and prompt. The food was good. It tasted fresh and they gave you a reasonable portion amount. My only complaint would be the shrimp. They give it you whole, id say chop it up so it can take on more of the flavor of the sauce and mix in better. read more

This place was disappointing because the first time I came here, I completely loved my experience! It was the first week it opened so that's probably why. The second time I came here, I noticed the portions were a lot smaller and the servers were not as hospitable. The servers looked frustrated and distracted and seemed to be talking amongst themselves a lot and not paying attention to what the customers ordered. I believe the manager was there and he seemed kind of hard on the staff. Perhaps that's why the service was not as great this time around. In terms of the food, I think that they have a lot of great toppings. The poke itself could use more flavor. Also, you don't get very much poke to begin with. I went here with a friend because of its proximity to the Long Beach airport where I had to drop her off after. The location is a little confusing to get to but not terrible. The food was good, nothing spectacular. The prices were way too high for the amount of food given. You had the choice of regular or large. Regular was 2 types of fish and large was 3. It was about a 2 dollar difference, about 10 and 12 dollars respectively. Every other poke place I have been to were around the same price but had much more food for the same price. Normally regular size is 3 fish and large is 5 fish. The bowl was much smaller than expected. Not a big deal but i think the prices should reflect the amount of food that is given. Service was quick and I loved the interior of the restaurant. I absolutely loved that there were booths! Random but nice touch! read more
