However, I went up to the bar for a drink and food after just checking into the Kimpton Epic to scout the location for a company leadership event, and was treated very poorly by the guy and girl bartending. No greeting, had to flag them down, there was only 5 people at the bar and a group just talking. I said I was going to order food and the response, then you gotta do it now. I quickly looked and ordered, then was ignored another 10 minutes before I could get a drink. Zuma is an upscale sushi restaurant with a great ambiance. We went for dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The service throughout the night was exceptional. We ordered a couple maki rolls and small plates as an appetizer and then got the grilled branzino (suzuki no shioyaki) as the entree which was tender and flavorful. The recommended plates of the evening: Starters: Edamade (no brainer) hotate no ume shiso mentaiko yaki (grilled scallops) taraba kani sarada no goma ae (crab salad) Sushi Rolls: California Maki - snowcrab roll with generous amounts of tobiko Ebi Tempura Maki - shrimp tempura roll Entree: suzuki no shioyaki (branzino) - It's not a whole branzino so each of us ordered our own fillet. The definition of a five star restaurant. Honestly this restaurant should have a Michelin Star from how good it is. It is located downstairs of the Kimpton EPIC hotel. There is valet parking when you arrive. The cuisine is a twist of Japanese izakaya style. The plates are served to share, extremely delicious. My husband and I came for Miami Spice and it was so worth it. We enjoyed multiple appetizers. Our favorite was the chicken karaage to start off that was glazed with a lemon chili soy sauce. This was a bit spicy and sweet all in one bite, I absolutely loved it. The next appetizer we had was a seabass sashimi with yuzu, truffle and salmon roe, this was also exquisite. The sweet corn with shiso butter and shichimi pepper was fantastic, the butter melts in your mouth. We shared the tuna roll with green chili, spicy mayo and tobiko, as well as the dynamite spider roll with softshell crab, chili and wasabi tobiko mayo. The rolls were crunchy and flavorful, the fish was extremely fresh. As an entree I had the 5 oz hanger steak with shiso chimichurri, the chimichurri sauce had an essence of lime. I wish I could have the recipe because this was mouthwatering. My husband had the 4 oz spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chili and sweet soy. The meat was already cut for us, which was extremely convenient and it was tender to the bite. Our meat was cooked exactly as requested. The drinks were superb! We had the piña colada which was rimmed with coconut flakes and the raspberry passionfruit martini. I also enjoyed a non-alcoholic beverage that had lime, ginger, cucumber and mint, it was extremely refreshing. For the dessert they served chocolate cake with caramel praline filling and vanilla bean ice cream on the side. Overall, our experience was amazing. We enjoyed the view of the water from our seats. They have $35 lunch special, regular lunch menu, and cocktails. There are high tops, regular dining tables, and outdoor tables. The group did the lunch which came out family style. We had miso soup, tuna sushi, fried chicken, salmon, and more. The food was great. The service was just not great. Everything took forever our lunch was 2 hours!!!! It was impossible to flag someone down, they'd forget a drink or serving utensils and it was a 10 minute wait for the next server. I came here with a large party (8 of us) in late December for an early dinner reservation (630pm). The ambiance is very specific, with loud music blasting and a very scene-y interior. I would not recommend coming with a toddler (my mistake!). I appreciated that the staff provided my kid with crayons and an activity book. While our party was large, our order was very simple and it was stupefying to me how it took 2 hours for the complete food order to roll out. Very challenging when we're waiting for rice to serve the child... It was hard to track down a server to get another drink (so I nursed my delicious margarita the whole night instead of enjoying more!). The lobster tempura had a good mix of bigger and smaller pieces, with a light and crispy breading. The roll that came out with caviar was possibly the best roll I've ever tasted in my life!! Scallops also came out twice: once as sashimi and once cooked as a skewer, both delicious! Loved the dessert: mango sorbet with an airy dessert and vanilla ice cream with a chocolate cake. Like most asian fusion restaurants in Miami, the ambiance was lovely. I was quite disappointed by my experience here on both the food and service. The food was so expensive but tasted really mediocre for the price. The fried calamari didn't have much "calamari" to it as it seemed to be mostly fried batter with very thin portions of calamari inside. The raw seafood dishes and the passion fruit sorbet dessert tasted great but that was it. Usually I don't need to dip gourmet sushi rolls into soy sauce since there should be enough flavor in/on the roll itself but the roll I got was very bland. Additionally, the service did not seem welcoming. I felt rushed even though it was early in the night and we hadn't even stayed for an hour. My waiter was not good at communicating as I had asked if there were peanuts or walnuts in the dessert, and instead of getting back to me about the information and letting me make a decision if I still wanted the dessert, he just told me he can see what the chef can do about it. At a cheaper restaurant, I wouldn't have cared about these little points, but seeing how high the competition is in Miami for asian/asian fusion restaurants, I would not recommend this place for dinner. read more

The brunch is 2 hours max and you choose between, a la cart, a Unlimited Food package for $99 or their signature package that includes unlimited food and drinks for $130. Sounds pricey but to be honest, it's not bad at all considering it's a very long bar of sushi, fresh fish, tacos, baos, eggs, brisket, chicken, shrimp, veggie options and more without anyone telling you can't have that 4tg plate! Plus all your favorite brunch drinks. The packages come with a main course (chicken was good but I would suggest the steak and then grab yourself an egg in a jar. For main, we got four rolls (chirashi maki, California maki, arjun negi toro maki, and spicy tuna roll) and one order of sashimi (golden eye snapper). The sashimi was amazing. Zuma is located right by the water. It's modern and beautifully decorated. The service was excellent. We had a large group and ordered the pre-fixEd sampler. Some of the earlier reviews about a lack of gluten free options worried me since we had a few in our party who have celiac. However, I was pleasantly surprised that they not only had gluten free soy sauce but also brought out separate plates when needed and/or left the sauces on the side. The portions were large enough that everyone got to try each item. The steak and the sashimi were the favorites. Whenever I am in Miami, I have to stop by Zuma for brunch. This restaurant never disappoints. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful. The selection is amazing and the service is the top rate. Costa was our server, and he was so attentive to everyone at the table from bringing ice, to offering suggestions for the drinks, to clearing items. Zuma should be Michelin rated as that is how good the service and food are. I highly recommend the tuna tartare tacos, the sashimi and the edamame. I ordered the spicy steak tenderloin and it was excellent. Save room for dessert as the presentation is beautiful and the selection of different fruity Flavored desserts was incredible.
