Was driving back into the city and stopped by Beacon because i was so hungry i thought i would faint. I LOVE Middle Eastern food so Ziatun seemed like the perfect spot. It was the perfect location, while the table for 2 was a bit small, i know most places are doing their best right now with outdoor seating. The food definitely hit the spot - i got the rolled grape leaves to start and the lamb kebabs with rice and the salad and i got the za'atar fries and grilled vegetables as well. For drinks i got the rose water lemonade. I would highly recommend this spot. All the food was super fresh (especially the lamb kebabs) and the rose lemonade wasn't TOO sweet (i personally prefer things not too sweet). The za'atar fries came with a tahini/sriracha sauce and it was ah-mazing!!!! Would definitely recommend the fries as a side item. If you have any allergies or food preferences, this place definitely accommodates. They mark the items on their menu that are gluten free and vegan which is super helpful for someone who has a few dietary restrictions. The portions are pretty big and the prices are decent. At the suggestion of another review, we stopped here before our hike and got the kofta burger and mixed kebab grill. Kofta burger and fries were amazing but the mixed kebab grill was bland and undercooked. Also the baba ganoush didn't taste good either. We should have said something earlier. tldr: Food inedible. Prices unreasonable. Not sure why I've given Ziatun multiple chances, but after four horrible experiences I'm writing a review. In terms of quantity, quality and location in Beacon, their prices make no sense. You do not need to spend this much for good food in beacon. If you are a brave soul and decide to go, here is a list of the food not to get: 1. Hummus - I've gotten it twice. First time fine, nothing special. Second time it was rotten and had to throw it away. 2. Lentil soup - thought this one was impossible to mess up. Ziatun has done it. 3. Vegetable wrap - contained a few sorry pickled vegetables and a lettuce leaf. Could not finish. 4. Zaatar fries - salty and sad 5. Semolina cake - dry. All I wanted was water and my money back. 6. Foule- not sure where to start. Just don't get it. 7. Falafel - if you go, get this. It's average and expensive falafel, but it is edible. I hope their meat dishes are better. If not, I cannot for the life of me understand how this place stays open. read more

My friends and I decided to check this place out after our hike at Bull Hill despite negative reviews here and on Google. My experience: 1. Food is priced higher for the portion they serve for example the shawarma wrap I ordered with no sides for $9.95 had very little meat in there. If more quantity of meat is added, then it is reasonably priced. 2. They offer outdoor seating, but no heaters and it was freezing cold. 3. They were understaffed only 1 server (though our server was polite), so sitting outside in cold waiting for food created some discomfort, I recommend ordering ahead. 4. They add 20% automatic gratuity for party of 5 or more. 5. I verbally confirmed the meat they serve is halal. Now, I may get a snarky response to my review from this joint as some of the other reviewers have experienced. This was such a cozy Mediterranean spot! I definitely have not had middle eastern food in months and was craving falafel! The vibe reminded me of NYC/Astoria with the seating, lighting, and music in the background. They were doing okay with social distanced seating and everyone was wearing masks. This place is legit. The sage tea (complimentary with Yelp check-in) brought me right back to sitting around the campfire in a Bedouin camp in Jordan. Ziatun is a small restaurant located on Beacon's Main St. My boyfriend and I came for some much-needed lunch before we started hiking. We were the only people inside for a while, though we were joined by 2 or 3 more parties over the course of an hour. We ordered: - Za'atar fries: can't go wrong with fries! I didn't think these were as special as everyone on Yelp thinks, but they were good fries. - Zarah bi Laban: sounds weird on the menu (bone broth, cauliflower, dollop of yogurt, served with rice), but once all the ingredients are mixed together it becomes the best cream of cauliflower soup ever. Way heartier than you'd think it is thanks to the addition of the yogurt and rice. - Mixed grill kebab with hummus & pita: decent, but nothing special. My favorite of the grilled meats was the chicken, and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the beef and lamb. Hummus was good, but a little too smooth for me (I like mine with chickpea chunks still visible). Overall a very pleasant surprise in the middle of Beacon. My friend and I came here over a year ago when we went to Dia Beacon and we genuinely haven't been able to shut up about it since. It's a small, really cute place to eat and the food is amazing. We started with rose water lemonade and Zatar fries. I got a rice bowl with lamb and my friend got a rice bowl with falafel. All the food was fresh and even though it filled us up we didn't feel overstuffed to the point where we couldn't walk. We got free Arabic coffee at the end (check-in), which was rich and full of cardamom and really good. I loved the vegan options, and the last time we went, my husband, who is a meat-eater, decided to have the falafel burger and loved it! Great Palestinian restaurant in Beacon, love the atmosphere and the food. We ordered the platter, lamb and beef shawarma, and Fattoush salad. The platter is a fantastic idea to order, you get to sample falafel, hummus, babaganoush, beans, pickled beets, and olives with some complimentary pita. My personal favorite was the falafel, especially in combination with the delicious hummus, which was creamy and addicting. The falafel was crispy and fantastic, not dry at all like some falafel can be. The shawarma's meat was cooked very well, and was well seasoned, he enjoyed adding some of the items from the platter in it as well - making it the perfect complement to a real meal. My fattoush salad had crispy fried pita bits, cucumber, tomato, and romaine, it was very light yet filling. It tasted absolutely delicious with falafel. It's a great place to visit in Beacon, and the service is quite friendly. My only compliant is that the menu that was served to us did not breakup the meals in appetizers and entrees, so it was hard to understand what is a main meal portion or not. Located on Beacon's Main Street this cozy little middle eastern place had loads of potential. I was visiting a friend in beacon who made reservations in advance but when we showed up for our 5:30 reservation we were told they had us down for a reservation the day before. Realizing it was their mistake they told us they could seat us at 6 and comped us a hummus which was cool of them. The appetizers we ordered were great, including the hummus, baba ganoush and za'atar fries. The fries came with an addictive spicy tahini sauce which we ended up slathering on everything. Also, you just can't go wrong with a flavorful yet mild spice like za'atar. Baba ganoush had a nice smokey flavor though portion size could have been a bit more substantial. I'm sad to say our entrees were not so great. Three of us got the lamb and beef shawarma and it was tough and not juicy at all. It tasted more like small strips of steaks than the fatty juicy shawarma I know and love. Maybe I'm spoiled by the ridiculous amount of excellent middle eastern spots in Brooklyn but I didn't even finish my entree and I always clear my plate when I like something. The rice and salad that came with our entrees was fine though not super flavorful. Service was friendly and fast and they had some good reasonably priced bottles of wine. The space inside is pretty small so it looks like reservations are a must for busy weekend nights. They also have a few tables outside which are lovely in good weather. read more

My wife and I walked up and down Main St. in quaint Beacon, NY today and stopped at Ziatun for lunch. As covid is still heavily in effect, we opted for take-out as this restaurant is on the small side. But the flavors and deliciousness of its food are on the big side! With a varied and appetizing looking menu, we opted for quickly prepared wraps, falafel for my wife and lamb shawarma for me ... both with baba ganoush ... and a side of fries. The wraps were soooo fresh and favorable, and the fries had a nice 'kick' and came with a special dipping sauce that was very yummy. We enjoyed it all at a picnic table a block away. As a side note, today's hostess was delightful as she helped us choose our delicious meal. We will definitely return (when things are back to normal) and enjoy a more proper meal inside so we can take in the intimate Palestinian ambiance. read more

I honestly cringe when I have to pick up food here. There's only 1 polite and extremely nice waitress but when picking up to go orders if she is not working is so frustrating. What normally happens when a CUSTOMER gives you business is a smile and a thank you.. (considering all the other options that are easily available on main st) but not this place. It's like I'm an inconvenience to the register staff if I place an order. They are more interested in having conversation or checking their phones rather than greeting customers or even smiling at them!! I'd be taking out every night if it wasn't for the terrible manners I've experienced walking in there. And if the owners condone this behavior which I'll ask on my next visit, then I'll never go back or recommend anymore. After a long day of hiking and walking around shopping in Beacon, my wife and I settled on this lovely Palestinian-Arabic restaurant Ziatun for our dinner, and we were so pleased that we did. The service was warm and efficient, and our meal was absolutely splendid. We started with the sampler platter, which was perfect to try a bunch of things. Hummus, baba ghanouj, falafel balls were all spot on; I particularly loved the foul (bean dish), something I remember fondly from a trip to Egypt decades ago. I had the kofta burger, a well-seasoned, juicy mix of ground lamb and beef, with a side of za'atar fries that were just amazing. My wife tried the mixed grill kebabs: lamb, beef and chicken were all equally flavorful. We were too full by that point for dessert, but Ziatun's Arabic coffee with cardamom was the ideal closer for our meal and long drive home. read more
