Stopped in yesterday, with friends. We were drawn to the Cafe based on its prominent location - it's hard to miss - and cozy looking vibe. There are a number of shaded tables outside but it was a title windy so we opted to sit indoors. The hostess was friendly and we were seated, immediately. You order at the punter and food is delivered to your table. Lots of yummy options and a few specials too. I wanted to try at least four different things! Opted for the turkey and Brie. House salad as my side. Everything was delicious! The other options our table - chicken pita, steak quesadilla and short ribs grilled cheese were equally great. Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday afternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. Personal opinion more so than actual issues with the business: not a big fan of the giant wall of a girl on the toilet. I know it's a style choice but it was a large detractor for me. I also was a bit put off at the open access to the bathroom with a shared sink. A curtain or something to separate it more would have been more appealing to me. Lola is a great staple for lunch when I'm in the New Paltz area. I've dined in a few times but typically pick up to go. Even though the food may travel for a few minutes it never disappoints. For indoor dining the place is cute, and they have also great outdoor seating for the warmer weather. Some of my favorites are their burgers, ahi pita, fried chicken sandwich, turkey and Brie panini and their salads. They also have daily specials. The last time I was there I ordered the Cuban Panini. I wouldn't call this place a true 3 but more of a 3.5. A nice place to stop for lunch but not somewhere I will go out of my way to go back to. Our group of four came in after hiking nearby and were able to get a table right away which was great. I ordered the chipotle turkey panini and fries, the panini had lots of fresh turkey but I got none of the chipotle. Their peanut noodles are delicious and I was so glad I got to try them. Stopped for lunch yesterday. Lola's in New Paltz is "dog friendly", so that was a big plus, since our mini poodle, Dee, was with us. My wife ordered the Turkey & Brie panini, and I went with the Hot Chicken sandwich (my side was peanut noodles). We also shared a Sweet & Salty shake. Everything came out after a short wait. My chicken sandwich was extremely tasty, loved the coating, and the chili oil was spot on with the spice level. The spice level for the peanut noodles was also perfect, IMO. My wife throughly enjoyed her panini, the portion size was so large, she had to take half of it home. We both thought the Sweet & Salty shake was outstanding too. Service was stellar, the staff at Lola's Cafe are very friendly & attentive. The only downsides to eating outside here are the yellow jackets that descend on your food when it arrives, but I was able to dispatch a few and the rest seemed to "get the message". Also, there is a fair amount of traffic noise being so close to a busy street, but I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue (or the yellow jackets) if you are dining inside. All in all, a great experience yesterday at Lola's Cafe. We would certainly come back again if we are in the area. read more

I went there today with my daughter and my son and checked in with who I thought was the hostess behind the counter. She asked me how many in the party and I told her 3 , she gave me 3 menus and I told her we were easy going and it didn't matter if we were inside or outside as i understood they were busy. She directed us to an inside table where we sat and waited and waited and...... And a waitress came by and fixed the table next to us and walked way after making eye contact. After 15 minutes or so without anyone coming over to our table we walked out. While I understand that they were busy I feel this was really unacceptable and a lack of communication between the person who told us to sit at the table and whomever's section that was. Also, that waitress that fixed the table and chairs next to us could clearly see that our menus were on the table , and we were waiting for service, why didn't she approach us and ask if anyone helped us? Instead just ignored us and walked by us several times and fixed a table right next to us, unbelievable you can make this stuff up. As my twins are going to college at SUNY New Paltz there will be a lot of opportunities for us to patronize businesses in the village sadly this will not be one of them going forward. read more

We stopped by this area for lunch on a road trip and it was pretty delicious. It is cafe style and casual. We got a spicy chicken sandwich with side salad that was amazing. It didn't taste overly greasy, was crispy, and the right amount of heat. We also got a turkey sandwich which was ok. This is going to be our new go to in New Paltz for sure. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, allowing your furry friends on the outdoor patio. They have cute twinkle lights set up and with both tables with umbrellas as well as high top counter seating outside. A must go spot if your staying around New Paltz for a day trip! I have driven through New Paltz a few times in the past seeing Lola's on the street corner. It always caught my eye as relaxing and scenic... when I finally ate here I was not disappointed! You can see main street and, now with fall coming in, the surrounding town foliage changing color. On a nice sunny day its really relaxing. The food options are also unique. I had their horseradish chedder burger last time I was here which was super juicy. The thing that really got me full though was their side options. You can substitute fries with their house peanut butter noodles! These things are delicious and I highly recommend you try them if your not allergic. Other menu options, from the wraps to the sandwiches, all sounded very good as well. Yet another good excuse to come back! The one knock against this place I'll share is personally I would prefer normal table service rather then ordering inside. I mean waiters here still have to give you your food so I don't see the issue with them also taking orders or passing checks out. For a single person it works out fine but for a larger group your asking someone to convey everyone's order which is a burden. If your taking a day trip around New Paltz or vacationing I highly recommend you come to Lola's. Go when they first open (11am) to turn the experience into a nice brunch. I need someone to please realize how RIDICULOUS this is: we ordered a short rib grilled cheese over greens but for some reason in lolas world that doesnt mean they send you a grilled cheess (what you ordered). They decide that means you want cold shredded cheese and meat over lettuce. IF YOU ORDER A GRILLED CHEESE YOU WANT A GRILLED CHEESE, someone has to realize how stupid this is to not send the actual grilled cheese over lettuce. A fantastic little place for a late lunch after hiking in the Gunks with the dog. We considered bringing the dog, but it was pretty hot outside so we dropped her off at the airbnb and opted to sit inside. I ordered the Captain Jack Burger (bacon, cheddar, shoestring onions, romaine, hot pepper aioli) and it was absolutely delicious. My daughter agreed it was the best burger we've had. The patty was generous, cooked exactly how I like it, with just the right tender yet meaty chew. The different toppings were perfectly balanced against each other. We also loved the ancho cumin vinaigrette in the southwest bowl and the special Italian chicken panini. I subbed the fries for a delicious, tangy medium spicy peanut butter noodles and my husband said the fries were also good. Huge portions. We all had leftovers so we could enjoy the meal a second time! A big highlight (and the reason he picked this place) were the gourmet milkshakes. The S'mores shake featured two graham crackers loaded with flame torched marshmallows - at least 8, that were nicely warm and soft in the middle, the glasses were chilled and dipped in a delicious graham cracker crumb and the ice cream, chocolate ganache and whipped cream generously layered inside. They each came with a pickle on the side, and another side of choice. We chose fries and their signature peanut noodles. The main dishes were really delicious and greasy enough for my liking. The peanut noodles were good, but they weren't show-stopping and I wouldn't order them again over fries, especially to complement most of the main dish menu items. Place was clean and there was plenty of staff- not that much was needed anyway as everything was ordered at the counter.
