We were just passing by this town on a long drive from Philadelphia to VT but we enjoyed our first stop so much, we stopped here again on our way home! There is indoor and outdoor seating. All the outdoor tables have umbrellas. Dog friendly. You order and pay inside (tip: know your table number when you go to order). We tried two of their salads (Waldorf, southwest Cobb)... we enjoyed them all... very fresh, good sized. Got both of these on both trips in. The turkey BLT wrap was great! Parking - we parked in a lot behind the restaurant. Most people had to pay the meter but we had a handicap hangtag and the handicap spot was free. Would def recommend! read more

Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday afternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. The target demo for this feels a little more 2am college student than hungry hiker in the afternoon. read more

We love Lola's. It's our go-to place in New Paltz. The staff is friendly and the food is good, though the menu is a bit limiting for us. However, we have 2 complaints. The choice of music isn't to our liking. We could deal with it if it weren't so, so loud. And, we find their bread of poor quality. I had a chibatta roll recently and it was awful. read more

Our group of four came in after hiking nearby and were able to get a table right away which was great. Stopped for lunch yesterday. Lola's in New Paltz is "dog friendly", so that was a big plus, since our mini poodle, Dee, was with us. My wife ordered the Turkey & Brie panini, and I went with the Hot Chicken sandwich (my side was peanut noodles). We also shared a Sweet & Salty shake. Everything came out after a short wait. My chicken sandwich was extremely tasty, loved the coating, and the chili oil was spot on with the spice level. The spice level for the peanut noodles was also perfect, IMO. My wife throughly enjoyed her panini, the portion size was so large, she had to take half of it home. We both thought the Sweet & Salty shake was outstanding too. Service was stellar, the staff at Lola's Cafe are very friendly & attentive. The only downsides to eating outside here are the yellow jackets that descend on your food when it arrives, but I was able to dispatch a few and the rest seemed to "get the message". Also, there is a fair amount of traffic noise being so close to a busy street, but I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue (or the yellow jackets) if you are dining inside. All in all, a great experience yesterday at Lola's Cafe. We would certainly come back again if we are in the area. read more

This is the perfect place to eat on a beautiful summer day. The food is delicious. The location is the best for people and dog watching. It's an order inside and put your number on your table and they will bring your food out to your table , type of restaurant. We got a turkey and Brie panini, a short rib grilled cheese and a caprese panini. I had the caprese which was the best I've ever had. And the black bean and corn salad was the perfect side. The turkey panini was loaded with turkey and my friend had enough to save for later. The friend who had the short rib grilled cheese said it was delicious and very filling. We took home the brownie ,chocolate chip cookie and cranberry nut cookie for later and I'm happy I got them. They were delicious with coffee !! I went there today with my daughter and my son and checked in with who I thought was the hostess behind the counter. She asked me how many in the party and I told her 3 , she gave me 3 menus and I told her we were easy going and it didn't matter if we were inside or outside as i understood they were busy. She directed us to an inside table where we sat and waited and waited and...... And a waitress came by and fixed the table next to us and walked way after making eye contact. After 15 minutes or so without anyone coming over to our table we walked out. While I understand that they were busy I feel this was really unacceptable and a lack of communication between the person who told us to sit at the table and whomever's section that was. Also, that waitress that fixed the table and chairs next to us could clearly see that our menus were on the table , and we were waiting for service, why didn't she approach us and ask if anyone helped us? Instead just ignored us and walked by us several times and fixed a table right next to us, unbelievable you can make this stuff up. As my twins are going to college at SUNY New Paltz there will be a lot of opportunities for us to patronize businesses in the village sadly this will not be one of them going forward. read more

A must go spot if your staying around New Paltz for a day trip! I have driven through New Paltz a few times in the past seeing Lola's on the street corner. It always caught my eye as relaxing and scenic... when I finally ate here I was not disappointed! You can see main street and, now with fall coming in, the surrounding town foliage changing color. On a nice sunny day its really relaxing. The food options are also unique. I had their horseradish chedder burger last time I was here which was super juicy. The thing that really got me full though was their side options. You can substitute fries with their house peanut butter noodles! These things are delicious and I highly recommend you try them if your not allergic. Other menu options, from the wraps to the sandwiches, all sounded very good as well. Yet another good excuse to come back! The one knock against this place I'll share is personally I would prefer normal table service rather then ordering inside. I mean waiters here still have to give you your food so I don't see the issue with them also taking orders or passing checks out. For a single person it works out fine but for a larger group your asking someone to convey everyone's order which is a burden. If your taking a day trip around New Paltz or vacationing I highly recommend you come to Lola's. Go when they first open (11am) to turn the experience into a nice brunch.
