Pictured it is some specialty drinks zest has at the moment. I tried the samoa latte and it is delish. I would recommend a try if you're looking for a sweet caffeine boost 8/10

I went on a bit of a shopping spree here. It was like being a kid in a vegan candy store. The variety is incredible. Often places with vegan options have a single piece of banana bread that tastes like cardboard; not zest. The have everything from cookies to cakes to smoothies to bowls. Everything we tasted, especially the peanut butter pretzel cookie, was delicious. It's an hour drive from me, but I'll be back soon.

***2 1/2 stars*** This is a weird one for me, because I don't think this is necessarily a "bad" place - Zest is clearly very popular and was decently crowded when I was there. I don't think it's impossible to come in here and really enjoy the food/drink offerings. Ultimately though, it just wasn't my cup of tea palate-wise and if you're like me, it's going to be tough to find something that hits the spot. I stopped in right after the gym yesterday in the late morning. I'm a huge acai bowl fan and have been trying to find a more convenient source than the Playa Bowls all the way up 23 in Pompton Plains. Up until this experience, all of my acai bowl purchases have come from chains like Playa or Sweetberry (which unfortunately closed their location in nearby Little Falls during Covid). I ordered the Peanut Butter Powerhouse bowl, which featured unsweetened acai, banana, housemade granola, vegan chocolate chips and organic peanut butter. It's very similar in content to the OG at Playa Bowls, except with the addition of the chocolate chips. It just didn't taste that good. I thought the chocolate chips were a nice complement to the peanut butter, and the decision to go heavy on the peanut butter as its own layer versus a minimal drizzle was solid - it's the one area where I think they surpassed Playa. It also helped that the taste of the organic peanut butter and the vegan chips wasn't all that different from "normal" peanut butter and chocolate chips. However, everything else bordered on tasteless and was disappointing. I'm sure there are plenty of people who may disagree with me on this, but an acai bowl is already pretty healthy in the grand scheme of things. They tend to be higher in calories especially with the granola, but I always feel very peppy and glad I didn't opt for something naughtier like pizza. I just don't think it's necessary to get even healthier with something like this, opting to use unsweetened acai and granola instead of tastier alternatives. The same goes for the pastries. I also ordered a blueberry scone that honestly just tasted like cardboard - somehow even the blueberries barely registered on my tongue. It just feels like overkill. And honestly? I'm certainly not opposed to a healthy lifestyle; as mentioned above, this was a post-gym stop. I get it. But if opting for bread with gluten and sweeter granola cuts a few months off my life expectancy at the end of the day, I'd take that deal over eating the taste equivalent of cork during my extra time on Earth. That said, the girls behind the counter were very pleasant and accommodating. I got the impression that some of their equipment wasn't as efficient as the chains - one of their blenders, for instance, just looked like one you'd have in your kitchen versus an industrial one. As a result, they had to physically bang the mixer/ingredients together to complete the process, but that's a pretty easy fix. Regardless, they had great attitudes while also being a little swamped. They handled it well, so that's a pretty solid selling point in my view. I don't know that I'd come back without doing some careful research on specific products I'd likely enjoy (preferably ones that don't have something unsweetened as their number one ingredient), and I'd stay far away from the pastries/baked goods.

This place is such a dream for dairy free & gluten free go0ody go0ods! A large menu of juices, smoothies, coffee, lattes, fruit bowls, salads, toasts & sandwiches. This place is whole food plant based & is a great healthy concept that I wish was more local to me! This is its only spot and it is a BUSY BEE! They're delivery eats friendly (not sure which apps tho) and can get packed dine in during munchie times. If full inside, it does have some bench tables in the front. My first visit, I got the Fresh Start Smoothie which had coco milk, nanas, spinach, cucus, celery, mint & lemon-- super refreshing! Then I tried their quiche that had an almond crust I believe but it sadly lacked flavor and had translucent gooey strings after every bite I took. I assumed it was no longer good so I stopped eating it. Luckily no belly aches after it. But the redemption was in the baci truffle! A highlight here! My second time back, I got the matcha latte with oat milk, a homemade pizza with hummus & fresh tomatoes and a baci of course. The pizza was plain, couldn't taste the hummus but appreciated the fresh tomatoes on top. The "dough" was firm, thick & soft... I think it's sweet potato "crust", nothing spectacular tho. It's a hard transition for me from being a thin-crust lover but trying here! Anyways, I lalalalaave the vegan baci, I could eat them everyday. Bcuz baci has always been my true love. Taking some home is a very Genius idea. Please stop by & support them!

ZEST is a RARE GEM! They offer delicious GLUTEN FREE DAIRY FREE everything; amazing bowls, scones, cookies, muffins, cookie dough. The texture and taste is not compromised!! So amazing all the desserts still taste and feel as good, if no5 more naughty than all the gluten full dairy full options.

This is legitimate food. It is smoothies and smoothie bowls that are made right there, not overly sugary processed stuff. I like adding their homemade hazelnut chocolate spread. Very filling, but doesn't weigh you down. Good prices for what they are selling.

On display in their numerous cases, there were cookies to cannolis, an assortment of cookies, pies, cakes, custom cakes, jarred sauces, and homemade pasta. I decided on a coconut custard pie, a pecan pie, and several pasteis de nata. Everything was so good and simply amazing, with a variety of freshly baked goods that cater to all tastes, especially the pasteis, just how the bakeries in Newark's Ironbound district make them. To go a little further, I go to an event a few weeks ago where their cookies are the main dessert and see gluten free and the little one and I do a happy dance. I skeptically open the wrapper and taste one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've had in a long time. I then proceed to order just about everything they will ship. I do have to say that gluten free is going to be different for anyone who isn't used to it but this comes almost perfectly close to a regular cookie without having a million ingredients in it that you can't pronounce. Absolutely amazing. They're so good that my gluten loving brothers have been stealing all my cookies. Did Oprah name this the best gluten free chocolate chip cookie? Yes. Do I usually listen to Oprah? Debatable...but she did also rate the chocolate cake at The Chocolate Room as the best and she was right on about that. Generally gluten free cookies are either chewy because of date paste (in excess) or they are super thin and crunchy and lack those comforting flavors that you look for. This cookie has an amazing height, a super buttery taste and is loaded with chocolate chips. I also ordered the midnight double chocolate cookie and in general I turn my nose up at white chocolate chips but this reminded me of my favorite cookies I used to get at the mall when I was little. Again, buttery and delicious with the right amount of sweetness, not overboard at all - not even with the small amount of white chocolate. The oatmeal plus is another amazing cookie. I happen to love oatmeal cookies and it's one of the only things that I will bake gluten free myself because I don't trust anywhere else but these are awesome! The cranberries, and again with the aid of a few white chocolate chips (literally), are the perfect balance and make for an absolutely delightfully chewy oatmeal cookie. Super huge bonus - every one of my family members and the little one hate raisins so the cranberries are a very welcome change. The butterscotch walnut sugar cookie is amazing! I kind of wanted to do incredibly unhealthy things with it upon the first taste and sent some to a gluten free girlie friend and she said the same thing - divine. It's the perfect hit of sweet and salt. The brownies are a little more on the cakey side but I totally don't mind because again the flavor is perfect, chocolatey, not too sweet and a great texture. Mom and I both thought the same thing on the first taste - perfect vehicle for brownie sundaes. They also sell granola (which I didnt get this time but might have to soon) and breads (I suppose in the area, not for shipment) and the online ordering was super easy and fast. The super important thing is that they're so serious about being gluten free that celiacs everywhere can rejoice. Their facility was set up with all new equipment - no bread oven from another bakery or anything like that. They test their foods to a sensitivity that not even other brands (or probably bakeries) do and do not allow anything with gluten in the facility, because in case you didn't know cross contamination is so easy (Babycakes I'm looking at you). This was truly a find and a treat and I now have boxes and boxes of cookies that I thought were gonna last for a while but at the rate that everyone is eating them I'd be surprised if they last even two more weeks. Gluten free brownie sundae here we come!

I've been aware of this bakery/pastry establishment for a few years (I think it showed up in this relatively new apartment building on Main Street two or three years ago), but hadn't actually thought to go inside until yesterday morning. I was entrusted with obtaining a dessert for a weekend BBQ, and it occurred to me that this was at least the easiest spot to quickly grab something. The fact that the desserts were extremely good ended up being a pleasant accident/bonus. I brought one of my top tier chums to assist with the purchase. From very brief research, it seemed like the eclairs were the big selling point here. I thought it would also be a little wily on my part to get them because I tend to not enjoy eating food that has stuff in it, and figured I'd be unlikely to do anything too naughty with that. That turned out not to be accurate, but I digress. We got the five for $25 éclair deal, and procured a raspberry, a lemon meringue, a nutella, a pistachio and a cookies & cream. Just as we were about to wrap up, I also impulsively grabbed a cheddar/bacon scone, which was humongous and understandably caught my eye. The eclairs were definitely a hit. My personal favorite was the cookies & cream. The flavor was incredibly on point, and it was almost like a meta ice cream experience. The only issue with that one specifically was that the cream inside was runnier than the other pastries, which made it a little messy. Not a huge deal. The runner-up was probably the raspberry for me. Again, extremely flavorful, almost to a fault - it was overwhelmingly tart, which is obviously kind of a calling card for raspberries but if you're not into that, I'd stay away. The nutella was actually a little on the bland side for me but not bad. The lemon meringue was a big hit for everyone else, but I'm not a huge fan of that flavor to begin with - I don't think that's a mark against this place by any means. In hindsight, we probably wouldn't have gotten the pistachio, but none of us are hardcore pistachio fans. The cream consistency and dough for all of these was very high quality, and understandably a lot of this is going to come down to how you feel about specific flavors. In a final twist later on, I sampled the scone around dinner time and was very pleasantly surprised - the scone was very moist and tasty, and was reminiscent of a Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuit, though probably at least twice the size and with actual pieces of bacon in it. Very strong recommend on that front. The service was very good. We had a pleasant female cashier assisting us as my chum was literally squatting on the ground eagerly peering into the display case squealing out flavors to get. Zero issues there, and we were in and out within a few minutes uneventfully. There were also a lot of cakes and other types of pastries, so I expect I'll be returning shortly to obtain their assistance with another BBQ.

The sandwiches here are outstanding! The quality of the ingredients is first rate and the prices are very reasonable. There's plenty of salads and soup here to go with the sandwiches also. The stars of the show here for me though are the bakery items. Whether it's the cakes, donuts, or pastries, I've never had anything here I didn't like. Some favorites for me are the Napoleons, Lobster Tail, Linser Tarts, and Black & White cookies. My wife loves the Red Velvet Cupcakes and the Cannolis. The Thanksgiving pies from here are always a huge hit. If you haven't been to Sorrento's Bakery, check it out. I'm planning on stopping here for many more years!
