Chicken Ciabatta (grilled) + bacon Lettuce, tomato, muenster, spicy mayo -- all balanced well, and the ciabatta held up without turning into a workout. Bacon was the right call. Curly fries came out hot and properly seasoned, which shouldn't be rare but often is. Fish Tacos - Shredded lettuce, onions, lime, boom‑boom sauce, cilantro. Generous filling, a little messy in the way fish tacos should be. Lime kept the sauce in check, and the fish tasted fresh with no off-notes. Tavern 292 isn't trying to reinvent anything, and that's part of the charm. The kitchen hits its marks, portions are honest, and the flavors land where they should. I do love this place and we have been several times recently. However....... We stopped on the way home 2 weeks ago, to grab a snack and drink at the bar. We usually are seated for a full meal. This happened to be our 1st bar experience. There was a women working the bar that day, around 2:30 PM. Not only did it take her forever to acknowledge us (only 1 other party of 3 people in the bar), but while taking our order she was applying lip gloss. It's a little unsanitary I'm thinking. The she made and received a handful of phone calls on her personal cell AND is a loud talker. I guess I am getting old when I can't understand while someone who is at work thinks it's okay to make and take personal calls. Yikes! 2/28/26: Saturday night dinner at Tavern 292. The Place Was PACKED! Standing Room ONLY! The hostess said, since we didn't have a reservation, there would be a one hour wait for the dining room. Otherwise, we could eat it at the bar. Luckily, a pub table just opened up. Our lucky day! Our lovely server was Isabella. We ordered a diet Coke and ginger ale. The menu was an upscale pub style. After looking at the menus, we ordered a West Coast Burger (Subst. Grilled Chicken) $20 , Side Greek Salad $9 and Tavern Burger (Subst.Cheddar Cheese ) w/ fried onion rings $19. When the entrées came out, the burger buns were branded with "Tavern 292". A very nice touch! I really enjoyed the West Coast grilled chicken. Loved the avocado and pepper jack cheese on the chicken! The side Greek salad was just fair. My bf really enjoyed the Tavern burger. However, a few of the fried onion rings were slightly overcooked and dry. The food was very plentiful. I ended up taking half the grilled chicken sandwich home. In addition, we ordered two glasses Caymus Cabernet. Food was good. Customer service was excellent. I only saw two single stall restrooms. The ladies room was very clean. However, it was my first time at Tavern 292. Possibly, there could've been additional in another area. The restaurant has a large parking lot. In addition, adjacent parking lot. In fact, it was so crowded that's where we parked. Overall, Tavern 292 is a nice casual and comfortable place to stop in. Wed night at 6:30. Dining room 3/4 way full and bar very full. Great place to meet friends and be casual. Food is something for everyone. Service is great. Delicious fried pickles are plenty enough for 4 to share with 3 dips. The taco salad is my favorite for dinner. My friends like the burgers. Vegan friend can find some nice salads or bean burger. Red sangria is great. Deducted a star for being seated next to a table of 6 (inches away) when there were other tables available, I asked to move. My boyfriend and I were looking for a casual spot to eat on a Saturday night and a quick yelp search brought us to Tavern 292. We were seated no problem even though it was pretty crowded. Everyone was extremely kind to us from the moment we arrived. I also loved how even though it was crowded, we were never rushed. The menu was very extensive and had a great variety of burgers, apps, sandwiches, and entrees. I love how when you order a sandwich or burger, you can choose any side you want! Instead of being locked into have fries and paying an up charge to have something else. We opted for burgers and they were fresh and delicious. Mine was perfectly medium with pink inside. They also weren't greasy at all. It's fun how they brand the top of their bun with the name of the restaurant. The extensive beer list was also a major plus. Had a great night with a great friend with great food. It was my first time here, but thanks to our amazing server, she totally steered us in the right direction and I thoroughly enjoyed my double cut pork chop with creamed spinach, and brussels sprouts. I also enjoyed a delicious cup of split pea soup (although I wish the croutons were a little bit more crunchy). The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is cozy and comfortable with a lot of nice customers. My girlfriend and I went to Tavern 292 for dinner. My girlfriend had baby back ribs with two side orders of Caesar salad and mac & cheese. But she didn't like the baby back ribs because they were very dry. I had lobster grilled cheese and french fries. It was okay. The server was courteous and the service was fast without feeling rushed. Outside in the back, there was a handicap parking lot and a ramp but I never knew that. In the front entrance, there was no sign for handicap parking so I parked in the regular parking lot and I had to walk a far distance. The stairs were dilapidated. I'll never go back. Don't judge a book by its cover. Everything we ordered was great with a homemade taste. If you are looking for great comfort food in a casual atmosphere this is the place to go. First, I ate the entire basket of corn bread. We had the buffalo chicken rolls which were giant and delicious. Would take the drive just to order this again. Shrimp Santorini giant and excellent. This is one of our favorite area restaurants. Beyond the great food and service they have the two things my wife and I prize. Outdoor seating in the summer, and excellent white sangria. Hopefully they bring back the large marquee this summer, as there's nothing like a 292 burger and white sangria outdoors to finish a work day or kick off a weekend. Not a great experience food-wise. If I was to eat here again (which I most likely won't) I would have a burger instead of a meal. The service wasn't attentive, but we were ok with this since we were able to flag down anyone walking by for stuff needed. But regarding the food... not great. I had chicken Cordon Bleu which wasn't good at all. The chicken wasn't hot & the cheese in the middle was totally intact. Meaning, there was a strip of cold cheese in each chicken slice. Which makes me wonder why they would serve the dish to me in the first place, since the cheese wasn't melted after slicing it up. The stuffed flounder I'm guessing might've been ok, but my friend didn't say anything and wound up taking most of it home. The apps were equally disappointing. The fried Calamari was chewy, and the Shrimp Santorini was chewy shrimp in tomato sauce. The only thing enjoyed was the ice cream that came with a pour over of espresso and a side of 43. This, and the fact that they allowed us to sit and hang a bit, is why I'm giving 2 stars. read more

Had an excellent first time. Service was very prompt. Sat in the back room. The place was very busy on a Friday night including the bar. It isn't a quiet place when it's busy so be prepared. Have driven by a million times but never dined In. Decided to check it out Saturday night, is smaller than it looks but was seated quickly despite it being very busy. Young owner or manager Was overseeing everything and very visible, all staff help each other out, good local NJ beer selection on tap plus Maine lunch- could use 5 Dimes in Westwood to add in. Had coconut shrimp app- was good but too much breading- good dipping sauce. Had a shroom burger- was excellent- great options for sides. We decided to have a date night around Tavern 292 last night. The place was perfectly patronized, just enough people to feel a vibe but not so many to feel rushed. the service here is impeccable!!! We had a family dinner of 7 last night and the food was very good and this restaurant has a great selection of items. Our waiter, Andrea, was. fantastic! He gave us all the time in the world to let us decide our meals, he was a master. in pouring certain drinks in a flamboyant manner. He was so friendly and accomodating. One interesting item, 3 of us ordered Guinness but they were out however Andrei said they were bringing another keg from their sister. restaurant. My companion ordered a Peach Martini( and most look perplexed as to how to make it) Callie whipped one up in no time that was AMAZING!! Always searching for the best burger! my husband and I went to 292 last night and were very pleased with our meal, the atmosphere, and the service. I had the Fairfield burger with Gorgonzola cheese, sautéed onions and horseradish sauce; my husband had the 292 steak sandwich. My burger was fantastic, the sweet potato fries were awesome (Probably the best I've ever had) and the regular fries were terrific too. We got a side of coleslaw, which was also really good. my burger could've used a little more salt, and the steak sandwich had too many vegetables and not enough meat for our taste, but still a solid meal. Have only eaten outdoors, and being under the big top on the hottest summer days is comfortable. Ample parking. Clean bathroom. It was not busy when we got there so we had the option of sitting inside or outside, we chose to sit outside because of the beautiful weather. We live nearby in West Caldwell and I found Tavern 292 when searching on Yelp for a local place to grab dinner and drinks. We have been here twice now and I have to say it's definitely a place we'll continue to visit. My favorite thing I've had here is there Hamburger. Probably the best hamburger I've ever had and it's probably large enough for two people. Oh and I really enjoyed the Fried Avocado wrap/roll as an appetizer. Loved the outdoor space for covid-friendly dining. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting and it really felt like a true restaurant experience. The service was friendly and the food was delicious - I loved the option to choose my side with my entree, not just stuck with sandwich and fries like every other restaurant. Also tried the cucumber mint mojito, which was yummy and not too strong. The fried pickles appetizer were fresh out of the fryer! My only suggestion is to get more staff working on the weekends. We were seated promptly, but it took a while to get our drink order in and even longer for our food order. I wanted so much for this place to be great but it fell a little short for me. The dining area is small so I would assume on a weekend you may be looking at a wait. We started with appetizers of wings and fried pickles that were so over fried, we were surprised they even brought them to the table. The wings were good until we found the hair on the plate. Ugh!!!
