Let me start by saying we go out to eat three times a week and we've been to a lot of upscale places probably 75% of the time. With that being said the service we received here yesterday was outstanding and better than any five star restaurant. I cannot say how wonderful our waiter was.. I can't remember his name because let's face it. I had a few drinks because that's what it's about there. I believe it was. Giancarlo? So the manager if you see this, please let me know if that's correct or not. This kid was incredible. He was helpful without being overbearing. He was great with his beer knowledge, but we really sold me was when there was a table behind us that had a son with special needs at this young man treated that table with kindness and compassion and really we need more of that. To the owner of this business, I know that the wait staff gets a very minimal amount per hour because they depend on tips, but if there's anyway you can raise his base pay, I would love to see that we were only gonna have one drink each, but because of how he treated us we ended up having two for me and three for my husband, that young man is an investment read more

I can't believe how long it's been since my last Leaf. Looking back, my review was strictly beer based. It's time to add food to the menu and get a full picture of the tavern. (Also, after 14 years, I have a little better appreciation of craft beers.) This was takeout, so I can't offer if anything has changed about ambiance. The order was prepared quickly, on time, and fresh. The food came back to us still hot and crispy, a sign of good care. And the food quality? Mwah. Everyone loved what they got. My bacon beef burger was juuust before medium, exactly how I wanted Great flavor, more guac than I thought as I ate through it. Good amount of fries, just need one recommendation: Dipping sauce plz. The appetizer of cheese curds was well stocked to satisfy my craving and came with the perfect dip. I get the feeling if we ate in-house, more dips would be provided on request. Every time I come to Jersey, this is always the first place I think of where I would want to go for food. It's not corporate, it's local, it's in a cute part of town, and they have parking behind the building. It's just one of those places that feels like they're working hard to maintain their standing in the community. They're always looking to impress everyone. Came here for lunch actually a few months ago but have been meaning to write this review for a while. Food was stellar! They said they had just changed up their menu but everything still tasted a-okay. Cloverleaf Tavern - Caldwell, NJ - 4 Stars After an estate sale in Caldwell, we followed a local tip from our neighbor--who grew up here--and headed to the Cloverleaf Tavern. Open since 1933, it's the oldest business in town and still a hub for locals, families, and friends. The first thing that stands out is the beer list. With around 150 choices of ciders, beers, ales, and just about anything that qualifies as beer, there's something for everyone. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, with light rock music in the background--lively but not overpowering. We started with the Tavern Taquitos, filled with well-seasoned chicken, fresh pico de gallo, and a chipotle sauce that carried a pleasant medium heat. The Asian Lettuce Wraps were another hit; the peanut sauce was served separately, so I could add just the right amount each time. For mains, the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich impressed me. At first glance, the two large pieces of chicken made me think it might be heavy on the breading, but it turned out to be moist with a light, crisp coating. The flavors came together perfectly with the cilantro coleslaw, jalapeño ranch, and tzatziki sauce. Portions are generous, and everything felt fresh and thoughtfully put together. Service was another highlight. Our server, Veronica, was attentive, witty, and brought a great personality to the table--she made the whole experience even better. A group of 6 met here yesterday for the Carton Brunch. It was so wonderful to get together with my fave ladies! We were seated immediately in an alcove at a cozy booth. The server was patient and was not rushing and let us peruse the menu and spend time with each other. The frother was giving them an issue so our cappuccinos were slow to come out, but worth waiting for. Someone ordered an Irish coffee which was straight alcohol and hard to drink. We mostly ordered from the brunch specials. The brown butter orange French toast was incredible although as another said, lacking orange flavor. I could have had a whole other portion. I wish it came with eggs or a side so I ordered a side of sad bacon. The pork belly eggs Benedict 3 people ordered came with eggs over cooked. Another had the chopped salad and enjoyed it. 2 of us ordered the Carton churro beer which was so good. We forgot to ask for the cinnamon rim and it was not offered. For desserts we had the peanut butter which was in a word, perfection. The pretzel bread pudding was very dense but they enjoyed it. We had the salted caramel ice cream which was great. The vanilla was ok and the one who ordered the gingerbread ice cream was underwhelmed by it. (Not surprisingly since it's Guerriero ice cream which is hit or miss for me with their flavors) Overall we were ok with the place. We all have had better brunches. This is a traditional restaurant and bar environment with a casual neighborhood feel. They had St. Patrick's Day decorations up this week, which added a festive touch to the space. However, I was a little surprised that there weren't any themed green cocktails for the holiday only beer options, which felt like a missed opportunity considering the decorations and the occasion. The food was just okay overall. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out or felt particularly memorable either. It's the kind of place that's fine if you're stopping in for a casual meal or drink, but it didn't feel like a spot I would go out of my way to visit. This place has great food, great service, and the ambiance of a true tavern. Have come here multiple times for lunch, and never have had a poor experience. They have a constantly rotating menu which allows to always be trying something different if that is what you enjoy. Our customers enjoy it, and the noise levels are still fairly good to have conversation even though they are typically fairly busy. I can imagine this is a great place in the evening to watch a game and enjoy drinks with friends as well, since the bar area seems to be just as active as the dining area. read more

We came by for a ciderfest event and it did not disappoint! The fall sangria was delightful and it reminded of a pumpkin spice latte but an alcoholic beverage version. Cloverleaf is known for seasonal menus so we decided to split an Octoberfest Burger which had sauerkraut and sausage inside of the burger. Somehow, it all worked well and ended up being one of my favorite burgers to date. Wow. We paired it with waffle fries which were super tasty as well. Going with the seasonal menu we ordered an apple cider donut ice cream sandwich and if was phenomenal. Usually it comes with pumpkin Ice cream but they were nice enough to swap it out for vanilla. My family and I went here at the suggestion of my brother-in-law. It did look busy, but most of the patrons were in the bar area and they had a private party in the patio. We only waited about a minute before we were seated. Our server was friendly and even told us about the Oktoberfest menu. When I checked in on Yelp, I was offered free chips, so we had that along with wings. They both were very good. I had the shrimp taco with red cabbage. It was good. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food. Our server did tell us about seasonal specials depending on the occasion such as Oktoberfest and St. Patrick's day. My wife, great aunt, and I came after we arrived to see my great aunt in New Jersey. This is a historic tavern and they had their anniversary party so had special beers and beer flights we tried and loved. The beer selection is one of the best we have seen, much like Quarry House Tavern a couple blocks from our apartment in Downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. The food is amazing as well. We shared the Cheese Curds my belated great uncle from Wisconsin loved as an appetiszee. For our entrees, my wife and I shared the Filet Mignon Lettuce Wraps and the Chipotle Bison Burger. This a review of their private space. We had an industry meeting and booking was easy, thanks Robyn. We picked passed around hors d'ouvres and the 2 waitresses were very pleasant. It's a nice space away from the noise from the bar/restaurant area. The space had a combo of bar and regular tables. It had its own kitchen too. Of the food, I enjoyed the sliders, which were super juicy, and the pretzels and beer cheese were amazing, especially the pretzels were super fresh and soft. Cloverleaf tavern is me and my girls favorite place to meet up and have some drinks and revisit old memories! A small tavern that radiated a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The waiters were incredibly friendly and funny, adding to the enjoyable experience. The family vibes of the place made me feel right at home. It's a must-visit spot for a warm and delightful dining experience. Usually our go to are the taquitos but this time around we gave in to our friend suggestion of the J-Lew sandwich. After lunch here last Saturday, my noble chum and I discussed how we keep inexplicably forgetting about Cloverleaf as a legit local spot to eat, despite its reputation and the fact that we've both been here a few times with almost universally positive opinions. I can't explain the oversight, but this was a very pleasant reminder that the quality hasn't diminished over the years. One quibble I have to bring up immediately - Cloverleaf had the BEST crab dip I've ever had. I am mystified that they would remove that from the menu. I don't know if that was a COVID casualty or what, but I was very glum that I couldn't order that as an app again. RIP. Interestingly, it appears to be on the online menu as a special, so maybe it's only available in certain instances? That's a superstar contribution that should be an option at all times. My chum and I were both pretty famished and got the Cheese Curds app ($11.50) in lieu of the aforementioned, dearly departed crab dip. Very solid entry - I liked how the cheese was bursting out at the seams (not sure if that's officially considered a selling point or not). Knowing that I was in good hands, I went for the plain hamburger ($14ish), cooked rare (I won't do rare with an unknown establishment - you run the risk of your dish loudly mooing on the plate, which I personally find to be a distraction). Delicious and remains one of the best in the area. It is mystifying to me how few places truly master the almighty bovine, but this is certainly one of them. Perfectly cooked and delicious. We also each got a nice little nip for our beverage. This place is VERY well known for its beer but I don't have an interest in drinking bread. I did notice that they didn't seem to have their MBA (Master...of Beer Arts? I think?) plaques out anymore, which I remember a lot of the 20-something guys at my old job just being over the moon about. It was a good promotional device at the very least, so I'd be curious to know what happened with that. Anyway. I went with the Cinnamon Citrus Tea Punch from the cocktail menu, which had my 2023 spirit chum bourbon in it. Very refreshing though a little light on the bourbon. I gauge the alcohol content by how rosy my cheeks are after the first drink, and I think they were still pretty porcelain. Perfectly pleasant though. The service was excellent. Everything came out promptly, and we even had a random staffer stop by to compliment my Save Kittens hat on the table. The cherry on top? On my way to the restroom, one of the managers asked how the experience was going. Top-notch shizzle right there. Also, I think this is a very legit price point for what you're getting - I was honestly expecting some of these dishes to be closer to $20, and my wallet still felt pretty heavy when I left. Both of us are going to try not to let Cloverleaf wander off our radar again any time soon. Very strong recommend. (Please bring back the crab dip to the regular menu.) read more

Best pub arrangement for miles in this area. Amazing bar menu and rotational beer menu and suggestions from the bar tender. Tastes, flights and full glasses are all possible here. If you like fried pickles, the "frickles" here are the best you'll find anywhere - batter is extra crispy with a slight spice and the dipping sauce is a great accompaniment. The burgers here are excellent; tasty, cooked perfectly and topped with your favorite toppings. Multiple fry options ; we tried the waffle fries and sweet potato fries and both were excellent. Great pub vibe and outdoor seating in the warmer months. We travel from Wayne (20 minute drive) because this is the best pub / pub grub spot for miles. For Wayne folks sad to see "The Shepherd and the Knucklehead" in Wayne close, this should become your new beer / food spot . Pub grub and beer are top notch , you won't find a better spot. read more

We came here last night because my husband is a huge fan of abomination beers and they had it on tap. We walked in without a reservation at 7.15 on a Saturday and they were able to seat us outside. I love that you can book a reservation directly from Yelp as well. While 3 people in our group got abomination beers I got a gluten free beer. I was super excited to see gluten free beers in the menu. They also serve non alcoholic drinks, cocktails and wine. They have something for everyone. Coming to the food, our friends got the loaded nachos and crispy cauliflower and the cauliflower was a little too sweet for their taste something a little hot sauce fixed. I got the classic burger with a gluten free bun and my husband got the honey mustard chicken which was also gluten free. The absolute winner for me was the honey mustard chicken. Astounding! Post football game and hungry so we yelped what was in the area and decided on Cloverleaf Tavern. Wasn't expecting much more than a good burger and a drink but received so much more. We were seated quickly considering it was fairly packed for a Sunday afternoon. Kyle came over and greeted us with a warm smile which was very welcoming. He gave us a quick but very informative and interesting history of CL along with a breakdown of the daily specials. He took our drink orders, left and came back to take our orders while offering insider tips like replacing the bun with a pretzel roll for the cheese steak. Everything we ordered was delicious, it was just a matter of which one was more delicious. Personally, I thought my Cloverleaf Rueben with corned beef was the best. I would definitely order it again. Menu Description: "A twist on a typical reuben! Choice of pastrami or corned beef with melted Swiss and our house made slaw on rye." The establishment was broken up into sections. Great food and drink options. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. I've even gone for brunch which was good. Definitely recommend their nachos and fresh chips for an app. I really like their fish tacos, Mac and cheese, and bison burger too. Keep an eye out for their specials, the muscles frites were so good. The beer selection is expensive and they have some unique seasonal options. Don't skip out on their dessert, the peanut butter pie is to die for. In the nicer weather they open up the patio where you can sit outside.
