I've been here a few times now. Food is decent and filling. Big portions, so it's a good choice for a family or brunch day out. Service is decent, even on busy nights. I visited on probably one of the busiest nights (Knicks game 5) and still received good service, no complaints. Other than it being packed, it was a good time. we visited on a friday afternoon and it was pretty busy! there was only one server so the service was a bit slower but she was friendly and let us know to just flag her down if we needed. the place was a little dingy but overall what'd you'd expect from a pub. i ended up trying their everything pretzel and had a guinness, as well. it was very crunchy and some of the seeds included were different than what you'd expect from "everything seasoning" but it was okay. i really enjoyed the mustard. read more

We have been going here every year on December 23rd for the last 25 years. My husband and I met here and we go back on that night for dinner. We have seen lots of menu changes through the years. We enjoy sitting in the dining room. We usually have it to ourselves. We started with nachos. This year I went with hummus and fresh pita which was delicious. I also had the onion soup but it was more like a reduction and not my favorite. He had a flat iron steak and shrimp which was pretty good. Attended an OutMontclair speed friending event at Just Jake's. The space felt like a classic bar/tavern--nothing fancy, but functional. There were a ton of tables set up, likely to accommodate the event, and I really appreciated the built-in stage--great spot for live performances or future events. The one downside was service; although the plan was for wait staff to take food and drink orders during the event, they never made it over to our side. Could've been a communication hiccup. Just arrived in New Jersey and thought I'd give Just Jake's a try. From the reviews I read, I thought I'd have a great meal at a place with a great atmosphere. I was right about the atmosphere, but the food and service were not the best. The best part of the meals was the wings. The pretzel we had for an appetizer was not very tasty. Both the sandwich and the burger were ok, at best. The service was pretty slow, at first. Once we received our food, the service did pick up. I had ordered an Iced Tea. I had returned it because it was not drinkable. I had requested a Coke instead. Little did we know that this place did not provide free refills. We found out when our bill arrived. Not only that, the Iced Tea was still on the bill. The ambiance was the best part of this visit. That alone will not get me back to Just Jake's. read more

When my coworker said that they were having their very cold February birthday at just Jakes I was not thrilled because I have had bad customer service experience in the past and I know parking is very tricky. I decided to take an Uber so I didn't have to walk in the cold. My coworker had a wonderful time and her friends were lovely and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals including me. But again this service was not great. I don't mind it being slow, we were a big group and it was a busy night. Again the service was bad. He just was not a friendly person and seemed annoyed when we would ask for napkins or a drink. We still gave him a generous tip because we are nice people. I don't know why he couldn't at least smile. He let all our plates pile up honestly it was not great. He seemed so annoyed that we were there. Super disappointing once again. read more

The atmosphere was super fun but the server was horrible and we didn't see him unless he was telling us they need to move our table which would have completely fine but we were there for an hour and that was the only time we saw him. And we tried to order drinks off the online menu and every drink we asked about he just said they didn't have and didn't offer any alternatives like I know he was busy but I didn't make him fill out the job application. A great local spot to enjoy live music and a good drink. The service here has always been friendly and readily available. The location features a large indoor bar and outdoor seating, so you can bring your pups along too! Both areas have plenty of tables. I came here last night, and the band was fantastic. I've been a loyal regular at Just Jake's for years, but apparently that means nothing. I had a planned party there, cake and all -- and they kicked me out within ten minutes of arriving because the staff couldn't get their story (or the cake) straight. The bouncer talked to me like I was a problem instead of a paying customer, and management stood by like that was acceptable. Embarrassing, unprofessional, and flat-out disrespectful. If you're planning an event, do it somewhere that actually values its guests -- because at Just Jake's, loyalty gets you nothing but attitude and a shove toward the door. read more

So came here on a Friday evening about 630 pm. Met with 2 other ladies here. Got there and was greeted by a bearded gentleman who informed us that he had to wait for the hostess for us to be seated. She asked to take our drink order, ordered Rum runner for myself, sangria and chardonnay. Unfortunately, my rum runner was VERY weak and my friend's sangria tasted like lime juice. I asked for more dark rum in my drink and my friend returned her drink, ordering a margarita instead. Well, the additional dark rum took over 10-15 minutes. HOW, WHY? I even had to check to see when it was coming back.... Food- had a burger, med well with truffle fries - the burger was done correctly, tasteful. But I didn't expect my truffle fries to be crinkle fries with parmesan. I've always gotten shoestring fries as truffle fries. My friend got wings, but wanted them a very specific way and wasn't too please with it. My other friend got sliders and yam fries. They were very pleased with the yam fries. Ambiance - good location, but on a Friday night as with all of Montclair spots in the near location...parking can be a hassle. Outside seating before getting to the entrance and good sized indoor seating. There was room for bands to play, but none played while we were there. Crowd was of mixed ages, but mostly 20s-30s. There was music playing and it wasn't extremely loud as we were still able to hold a conversation Service- Payton our waitress seemed very busy. We had to ask for napkins and utensils and that was provided by another individual. We had to wait for items such as mayo and sauce for our food. Towards the end, we asked Payton for our check and she replied "Oh, you are guys finally satisfied?" WHOA....that was not necessary. We brushed it off, paid our bill and left. But was not happy with that comment as we expected to have utensils, mayo and drinks made the way we expect them to be made. Just Jake's is just that, just Jake's. A bar hang out spot for all the twenty-somethings that likely go to MSU. It's a staple in Montclair and a welcome place for folks considering the town is largely BYO. In my visits here is been average as so with the latest. Came on a Friday night after a concert to find that another one of sorts was going on here with a band doing 90's hit music covers which was cool. Not without a $8 cover charge though. This is fine, but initially we were just gonna grab some apps and drinks and sit outside. It's not like we could sneak in since they stamped and checked our hands so that's kinda lame. When we sat down I could already tell the waiter girl we had was ready to clock out. Her hurried speech, body language and constantly checking on our table told me so. This didn't surprise me though. Other visits here were about the same attitude wise. The food was average. Sesame Wings, pulled pork sliders, nachos all just were alright. The nachos can easily be shared with 4 people and the prices for it all were pretty decent so that's the upside. MONTCLAIR: Just Jake's is a really cool sports bar in downtown Montclair and they allow leashed dogs at their outdoor patio! The patio is mostly covered with tents, and heaters are placed to keep you comfortable. They are going to fully enclose the area for the winter! This is a great place to watch the game with a couple of TVs outside and the menu has a variety of options for everyone with locally brewed beers on tap. I came here after seeing a show at the Wellmont Theater. I had very low expectations for a night out in a suburb like Montclair, but was very pleasantly surprised. We chose this bar mainly because they had a live cover band, Crash the Party, performing that night. They charged a cover of $8 which wasn't too high but also wasn't mentioned anywhere on their website or social media so it was a little unexpected. When we arrived, they were transitioning the restaurant and removing all of the tables and chairs so people had room to stand and dance. Because we were ordering food, initially, we asked to sit at a table and they seemed annoyed to have to accomodate us. However, eventually seats opened up at the bar so we sat there to eat. My sister ordered the mushroom quesadilla. It was surprisingly good. The tortilla was nicely fried and extra crispy. The bartender who served us wasn't very friendly though. If they don't want you to eat after a certain time, they should just close the kitchen, instead of making you feel unwelcome! After eating, we got drinks and were shocked by how inexpensive the bill was. It turns out their shots are only $4! They were not full size shots, but it was still a pretty good deal for kicking off the night. Later on, we decided to try their green tea shots. These were made with peach alcohol. At first I thought this was super random, but I later learned that it's a pretty common recipe. The cover band was awesome. They played all the hits a millennial could dream of. They had a male and female lead singer so between the two of them, they were able to cover a great range of songs. However, most of the crowd was younger so they were vibing but not super into the music. Still, it was a fun and dancey night. Despite the issues with ordering food, I really enjoyed this bar. They seem to bring in live music acts on a weekly basis so it's a great option for a night out in the area! read more

After our cocktail making class some of the girls got hungry and we decided to get something from here. They were able to accommodate 12 people and we sat in the the back room. We were served by Brooke and she was good and attentive. I only ordered a sangria but found out it was premade and of course it wasn't great. I told Brooke and she got the manager and he got me another. It tasted the same but I appreciate him letting me keep the original and giving me another to fix the problem. Decided to come here on a Friday night during the pandemic as we were looking for a place with outdoor eating in Montclair. When we got there, the wait was about 30 minutes so they took our name down and we decided just to walk around until our table was ready. First thing we noticed that was a positive was they now had their menu virtually and all their staff had masks on. We decided to order some appetizers as our entrees as we weren't too hungry. We got their garlic shrimp which had great flavor. Too bad that the bread was rock hard so we weren't able to soak the flavor of the shrimp sauce in. The burger sliders were delicious and their drinks were really the stars here. I started with a Moscow Mule which was made correctly before discovering they had loaded claws! If you know me, you know I absolutely love White Claws so when I seen it on the minute I couldn't figure out which one to order! I ended up getting the Black Cherry which was fresh lemonade, fresh blackberries and Tito's. The drink was sooooo good!! I could not stop sipping!! I really wanted to order another one but it was quite filling so I ended the night with a Lemon Drop Martini which was really good as well! It was perfectly tart and I could drink those all night! It did start drizzling at one point and was happy to see that management and their staff quickly put up a tent. We were fine where we were at but once it started to actually come down a little harder, we decided to sit underneath the tent. Overall, we had a great time and did notice that once people had some drinks in them, they would approach you to speak to you without a mask. Stopped by with some friends for dinner and some drinks, and while this normally wouldn't have been my first pick, it turned out to be a pretty great bar! Came in on a Thursday night around 8:30 and hostess and waiters were super accommodating to our group of 8 and provided great service. Our table ordered a few beers and some items off the menu (pizza, potato skins, quesadilla, nachos, lemon garlic shrimp, fries & chicken tenders) and everyone was left satisfied. Additionally, their beer selection is great, they have flat screens all around for the games, a pool table, and plenty of seating.
