I've reviewed Faubourg in the past and my experiences here have been exceptional. With the bar raised that high, I think it's good for the establishment to know about certain details that impact customer satisfaction. During this visit, the plating of some of the dishes was odd, as whomever did it felt the need to position the food right at the edge of the plates. That made it difficult to eat the dishes without some of the food spilling off the side. Had to push everything to center to avoid this. Again, this was very odd, as it happened on two entrees and one dessert dish and was the first time we've seen this at Faubourg. The lamb duo had a fantastic grilled flavor, but part of it (I believe it may have been shank meat) was loaded with so much salt that it overwhelmed the flavors and was a bit difficult to continue eating. The last comment is admittedly nitpicky, but worth mentioning, as they automatically added a 20% gratuity despite the menu stating that 20% is added for parties of 6 or more. We were a party of two and I was a bit annoyed that they did this. The check also had a place for "additional tip", which was a bit presumptuous after adding the 20%. Overall, the experience was positive with a few hiccups that prevent me from giving 5 stars. Still highly recommended. read more

Came here for a work lunch. It's a nice place, good food, and prices aren't terrible for the food quality and environment. Tuna tartare starter was delicious, and was a good size to share among 3-4 people. Ordered the lamb ragu, which was good, with a generous portion. Cocktails were tasty. Only complaints are parking (street), and also expected friendlier service at a place like this. read more

Faubourg was able to take us in for dinner on a last minute reservation. certainly a busy night. Despite that, meals were amazing. I unfortunately don't recommend their Espresso Martini Maybe it was the one I had, however it tasted like a watered down coffee with simply vodka. Ambience is gorgeous too - they have a beautiful indoor set-up with 2 floors and a large outside covered patio area that is gorgeous with lights and little water sculptures. Came to celebrate Valentine's Day and opted for picking items à la cart instead of the V-Day prefix dinner menu so we could have some more variety. Of course to celebrate, each table was sprinkled with firm, fresh rose petals :) ! With limited liquor licenses in Montclair I was surprised to see this place had one (although it is a large venue), unfortunately my white cosmo was a little underwhelming--It came out suspiciously fast! The water service made up for it, they provide 2 bottles of water for your table, one flat and one sparkling. Nice. The restaurant is pretty sizable and we were comfortably sat at a 2-top, not crammed and on top of other patrons. Great vibe here too--Music was nice, not too loud and they played classic rock at a reasonable level As for the meal: Tart flambée: delicious shareable flatbread with fromage blanc and bacon, a good kickstart to our appetite Wild mushroom and artichoke crostini: I LOVED this, loaded with fungi and shaved pecorino Faubourg lyonnaise: I asked if we could share it and they brought it split in 2 for us. This was the best dish we had. The charred baby gem lettuce with split egg (soft boiled instead of poached so that they could split it for us) duck magret, and more pecorino--WOW. I used some of the flatbread to wipe the bowl clean. For our entrees: chicken & truffle with polenta scallop & citrus on celery mousseline Light, shareable, flavor bombs all over the plates--very thoughtfully made dishes. We also added broccoli rabe as a side and while delicious and elevating, it was huge. We happily took the rest home so we could make room for dessert: pistachio crème brûlée. We would have loved to see the Valentine's Day menu desserts as options, maybe we could've ordered them if we asked? Those sounded more creative and fun than what's on the regular menu. You can take a tour of the restaurant, head upstairs and look down from the rafters like phantom of the opera, peep into the large open kitchen and watch the chefs working diligently, or check out the glass windowed wine cellar at the far end of the restaurant. I took one of my friends out to dinner at Fauborg for her birthday! The restaurant is large and beautiful on the inside with an upscale atmosphere. The menu is seasonal and they also have a unique cocktail list! I had the white cosmo and for our entrees, I had the salmon & blood orange while my friend had the duck confit pappardelle& sunchoke. Everything came out very quickly and the food was presented beautifully on the plates. My friend enjoyed her duck and my salmon was cooked perfectly. I loved the uniqueness of the blood orange as part of the dish. For dessert, we had the special which was an apple tart ice cream situation and they also wrote happy birthday on the plate along with a candle which we appreciated. I visited the other night with my cousins for a girls' night out. We started with the Seafood Arancini (stuffed with crab and lobster), which were delicious. The sauce that the arancini was plated on was really tasty. For my main entree, I ordered the Coq Au Vin, which was a generous portion. The chicken was tender, and the gravy it was served over was well-flavored. It also came with a cup of spätzle, which was a bit salty for my liking. Service was attentive and accommodating. After dinner, we headed upstairs to the cocktail/speakeasy lounge. I really enjoyed my drinks and the lounge's vibe. As far as the restaurant goes, I wasn't overly impressed considering the prices. Celebrated my anniversary here and couldnt have asked for a better night. The restaurant itself has both indoor and outdoor areas. the outdoor has a covering, some plants, plenty of lighting. its a little cramped, but we liked it. we had exceptional and attentive service from start to end. we each had the elvis parsely (loved the usage of parsely here, such a smooth drink!) and the bang bang. both were perfect. they were strong, but not overwhelming and picture worthy. the lobster bisque was good, but this is a 1 and done from me. the lobster flavor follows throughout each spoonful, but there is not any lobster meat here. they do give you a toasted crouton with some cold lobster clumps on top of it with a mouse. i loved this! i personally wouldnt get the bisque again because it wasnt buttery, it was more of a savory seasoning. the GOUGerES, comte cheese puff are a must get. very sharable. soft, but a hint of a crispy outter shell. and a hint of cheese flavor comes through. my date got the SEAFOOD & CORN MAFALDINE, shrimp, jumbo lump crab, crispy fennel, artichokes. we basically licked his plate. to be honest, i wish i got this. the pasta had the perfect bite, there was ample corn and crab meat. the sauce that drowned the dish was the real star of the show. a hint of sweet from the corn, but not overwhelming. i grabbed a classic - GRILLED SALMON, fava beans, market zucchini, confit tomatoes. salmon was cooked more on the raw side, i personally would have liked a little more well done, but it still tasted great. this dish was incredibly refreshing but filling. the zucchini spiral pasta has a nice bite to it. overall i liked my dish, everything was cooked well, and it was great for my stomach which tends to act up. read more

I would rate this place a 3.5 overall. It has a great green room sitting area that gives an outdoor garden feel indoor. I went for brunch so my friend and I ended up doing an al carte option. We ordered the baba ganoush for appetizer. It came with crunchy crackers and was overall creamy and yummy. For entrees we ordered the French toast and the grilled chicken souvlaki. Both were delicious the French toast was soft and not overly sweet. The grilled chicken souvlaki had nice charred grills and tasted fresh and flavorful with the cucumber tomato salad, tzatziki and the fluffy pita. For drinks my friend got the autumn solstice and I got the bee calm. I liked the autumn solstice better it was more up my alley for a cocktail. 7/26/25: After dining at Faubourg (Montclair), I really have to rethink what restaurant is now deserving of 5 stars! Faubourg fits the bill in every aspect!!! We had a reservation in the patio dining area. The open area is very nice. I felt the seats could've had more cushioning. So we asked, if we could be moved into another area. Not a problem at all. We were moved inside the restaurant. The seat cushioning was much better. Our wonderful server was Liz. We started out with a Trefethen Chardonnay and a Ghost Hawk Beer. Tap and Sparkling Water bottles were already brought to the table. Bread and butter were brought over to the table. Entrees: We both ordered Chicken Provençal. The dish was absolutely incredible. We never had such moist chicken. With every bite, we would pick up a different wonderful sauce flavor. I could only eat half of my entrée. I asked one of the guys who was clearing away the dishes to wrap up my portion to take home. He nodded and said he would. In the meantime, we were asked if we wanted a dessert. We decided to share a Chocolate Coulant. It was so yummy and scrumptious! We were still waiting for my entrée to be wrapped up. We did see our server Liz and told her that it never came out to us. Not even a minute later, the manager named "Lady" came out with Liz. Totally apologize and asked us, if we could wait 10 minutes for a whole new order. We said no problem. Not even five minutes went by and the food came out. Faubourg has it all, Great Food, Excellent Customer Service and a Beautiful Indoor and Outdoor Dining area. Parking can be a bit hairy in the town of Montclair. You're lucky if you can get a spot on the street. We got lucky and found a $10 parking lot on a side street. So we grabbed it. This place continues to earn rave reviews for its ambiance and food. We checked this spot out for a late weekend brunch. I love how much seating is outdoors! They have a huge semi covered patio and even seating on small balconies. It was much more crowded outside versus inside. While the place definitely gives upscale fancy vibes, the service and meal were quite relaxed. This place is pricey. We tried the $39 prefix brunch (each) which came with a cocktail. I tried the berry parfait and the orecchiette and lamb ragout. Both were PHENOMENAL! And big enough portions that I did have leftovers. The berry parfait had a delicious sweet flavor while the main was just a well cooked dish. I also got the elderflower mimosa off the choice of prix fix beverages which was basically a mimosa or Bloody Mary. While good, I would have preferred one of their amazing sounding cocktails. My husband tried the crab benedict which was also very good but quite rich. We tried the special, Lobster Avocado Toast for $18. It was good but nothing exceptional. Honestly, I'm still thinking about this meal. The beef was incredibly tender literally fell apart with a fork and that red wine reduction was deep, glossy, and perfectly seasoned. The place has definitely stepped down a bit in terms of service and ambiance. Faubourg has been on my list for a while, but I finally got over here last night for dinner/drinks with my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality before a screening of Hamnet down the street. My takeaway? Like the presumptive Best Picture nominee, uneven but the highs are pretty high. I really liked the vibes here - it feels (and I think it is) pretty gigantic, with high ceilings and a bougie urban vibe. When we were making reservations earlier in the day, my chum told me we had the option of sitting in the main dining area or the greenhouse, which we ultimately bypassed but it's cute from what I could see - predictably a bit more of a rustic decor than the other parts of the restaurant. We were seated in a nice corner/curved booth - always a nice perk when both parties can sit in the booth comfortably - and were waited on almost immediately. This is not a cheap hot dog stand kind of place so if you're looking for entrees in the $30 range, I'd keep looking. We each got an app ($22 for me at least), and I went with an intriguing item on the seasonal/special menu, the short rib arancini. Wow. Truly delicious and something I considered getting a second round of, despite the hardcore price point. It's a reminder that when short ribs are done right, it's a sight and a taste to behold. For my main course, I went a little aggressive with the much-ballyhooed Steak Frites (I think $76ish or so), which were really tasty, if not necessarily worth the price. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and was very juicy and tender. The accompanying chimichurri gave it a nice nip and my chum shot quite a few regretful looks my way after getting a slightly underwhelming chicken dish. But that's a story for a different reviewer. The drinks for me were ultimately a miss. I was intrigued by the Saints & Sinners cocktail since it featured Angel's Envy bourbon (and I admittedly thought it might be a subtle homage to Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) but to me was a little too tart, to the point where you couldn't taste the bourbon at all. I switched to an Old-Fashioned, which my chum ordered right from the get go, and honestly it wasn't good at all - super aggressive overpour on the bourbon (I think it should have about 1.5 ounces and instead was closer to 3 or 4). Of course my companion tried to defend it, claiming we were getting value for the money, but I could easily just go to a convenience store at my neighborhood Shell or Mobil and purchase some extra gasoline there. Bottom line - in a place like Montclair where the liquor licenses are relatively few and far between, you should know how to make a very basic/mainstream cocktail like this, and they didn't. The dessert was mouth-droppingly good, one of the best I've had in recent memory, a sentiment shared by my dining companion. We went with the passion fruit cheesecake, which came with a small scoop of gelato. Wow. Once we realized what we were dealing with, the bites got smaller, and the pace of the eating slowed down dramatically for savoring purposes. Truly an experience. The service was excellent as well, which ultimately made the difference here. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and once or twice another staffer came by to ensure we were being taken care of. Really top-notch stuff which is arguably a significant portion of what you're paying for here. There's a lot to like and I wouldn't hesitate to come back, but I'm probably bypassing the bar and heading straight to some of the other menu items. read more

This Saturday, I was invited to a celebratory lunch at Faubourg. It was a reservation for ten at one of their tables in the sun room, which is a partially covered dining area. (There is also an indoor dining room - I saw the entrance to it, but didn't a chance to check it out). I was the first one there, so the woman at the host podium said I could take a seat at one of the tables up front or at the bar. I hopped on one of the seats at the bar. While waiting, one of the bartenders offered me water, which I much appreciated because it was a very hot and sunny day. This was one recurring thing that day at Faubourg - warm hospitality from all of the staff there. From the man who took us to the table, to our waiter to the food runners, everyone was friendly and looked out for all of the restaurant's diners. So everyone at our table raved about the food - fresh ingredients and full of flavor. Some went prix fixe while some went a la carte. I was happy with my choice to go with the prix fixe menu for lunch. For my two courses, I went with the duck terrine and the flatbread with Merguez sausage. I've visited Faubourg many times and have always had a great experience. The staff makes you feel welcome and like royalty. I love the vibe here- open concept with tons of lighting and calming decor in the atrium area. There is also an indoor dining space that feels more intimate, if you're going for that. Everything on the menu is delicious, and the drinks are on point. Chris was my server this time around, she was delightful and gave us yummy recommendations. While a little on the pricier side, you're getting everything you pay for and then some. Add this place to your list and you won't be disappointed. I can't give this place 5 stars because of the price but if you're willing to stomach it, this is a nice date spot. Located right in downtown Montclair so parking is always a challenge, as you basically have to hope to get lucky on the street. Would recommend making a reservation if you're coming on the weekend. Inside, the ambience is very classy and spacious with beautiful decor. Service is decent though I will say they were a bit harder to track down than is typical for this level of a restaurant. The drinks here have always been on-point with a wide selection of wines and cocktails. I've always enjoyed their pineapple margarita in particular. Usually tough to hold yourself down to just one! Food menu is unique but not a huge variety. Seems like they change their menu seasonally or somewhat often and I don't come here often enough to have a specific recommendation. I will say not a ton of options for vegetarians. Every time my wife and I have been here though, the quality of everything we've gotten is reliable and the dishes have been prepared very well with nice presentation. As I mentioned at the beginning, the price is my biggest issue. Good but not fantastic quality that is commensurate with the cost. We stopped in tonight just for a quick drink at one of the bars and had no trouble finding seats. The bartenders were fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and quick. Our cocktails were made in no time, and both were outstanding. I had the Tropical Tango and my sister had the Elvis Parsley -- each was delicious, balanced, and clearly crafted with care. I like the atmosphere here. Upscale restaurant with various seating options (indoor, outdoor, bar, or private rooms upstairs). They sat us at a booth, which was a bit snug for our group of 6. We ordered appetizers to share (flatbread with mushrooms, oysters, and octopus) and then I got a branzino. One colleague let me try some of his steak. Another colleague let me try his foie gras. I was impressed by how much vegetables were on my branzino, I purposely tried to pick something healthy. I really liked all the dishes I had. We started with oysters and the octopus - the oysters were fresh and delicious and the octopus was extremely tasty. For my main, I had the fish which was very well cooked and perfectly seasoned. It was light and exactly what I was looking for. Our drinks were all great and we finished with the crème brûlée, which was fantastic as well. Jorge our server made our dinner delightful. Great Mezcal cocktail and quick bread service. The charcuterie board shared among four was fine. I appreciated Jorge's wine service which was elegant and a nice pour right from the bottle. Steak frites spendy but worth it, excellent beef, broccoli rabe and crispy fries. They have a poorly named "plant based menu" where only 4 of 18 items (excluding sides) are plant based -- only one vegan entree. They also label dishes that they can make vegan. E.g., for BEET & STRACCIATELLA, they can take out the STRACCIATELLA ... making the dish just BEET? Who would do that? We got the GRILLED CAULIFLOWER STEAK and the PARSNIP & BARLEY. The second one they made vegan by taking the butter out of the sauce, and sure enough the sauce was very weak. On the other hand, the chef clearly thought about this menu -- they didn't just add pasta primavera or a beyond burger, which I appreciate. The problem was that we just didn't think much of the dishes. The bread with olive oil and the service was also underwhelming. The place is gorgeous though. read more
