They have a poorly named "plant based menu" where only 4 of 18 items (excluding sides) are plant based -- only one vegan entree. They also label dishes that they can make vegan. E.g., for BEET & STRACCIATELLA, they can take out the STRACCIATELLA ... making the dish just BEET? Who would do that? We got the GRILLED CAULIFLOWER STEAK and the PARSNIP & BARLEY. The second one they made vegan by taking the butter out of the sauce, and sure enough the sauce was very weak. On the other hand, the chef clearly thought about this menu -- they didn't just add pasta primavera or a beyond burger, which I appreciate. The problem was that we just didn't think much of the dishes. The bread with olive oil and the service was also underwhelming. The place is gorgeous though. read more

Heads up this place is very fancy, and we were not expecting it, but it was a nice surprise. We sat at the bar because we were not planning to stay long, only for a drink because we had plans to meet with friends for dinner across the street. However, we were hungry so we opted for the Tuna Tartare & Lime -- very refreshing and absolutely delightful. It paired well with the What Happens in Pearis Grey Goose drink I had. The service was quick and easy, and the atmosphere is elegant and romantic with a water fountain right in the middle. This is where Yelp needs a 10 star option for those places that are just beyond exceptional! Booked Valentine's Day dinner over a month in advance using the Resy app. This place is always packed on a weekend and we couldn't pass up the prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day for only $85 a person while they still offered the à la carte menu as well. We absolutely loved that you can order from both in case you want to try other items. This fit our needs perfectly. (Most places were charging about $125+ pp with no regular menu option.) Not shown on menu, but they gave us this most delicious moist grain bread with a pat of butter with flakey sea salt sprinkled on top. They also served red beet hummus in the shape of a heart with fresh pita slices. First course was a scallop crudo, second lobster ravioli, third your choice of flank steak or Dover sole and fourth was a black heart or red, mousse like dessert with different sorbets. We added on a half dozen of East Coast oysters, a bacon flatbread, and French fries from the à la carte menu. We washed it all down with the complementary flat and sparkling water provided to each table and our choice of libations was a wonderful Bordeaux from 2022 and a let's get figgy cocktail. Everything was superb! We smiled the entire time and couldn't stop raving how wonderful each and every bite was. We were already planning our next visit back. Our server was absolutely wonderful as well as the rest of the staff. It was also a wonderful touch for the maître' d to greet me with a beautiful compliment upon arrival. The ambience is absolutely relaxing and gorgeous. If you simply just dined off the prix fixe menu, you would have been more than happy and more than enough food, but we pushed it a little further to celebrate Valentine's Day. We cannot wait to come back. I haven't had such a wonderful meal in a long time. Even our neighboring diners were an absolute pleasures to chat with! Jorge our server made our dinner delightful. Great Mezcal cocktail and quick bread service. The charcuterie board shared among four was fine. I appreciated Jorge's wine service which was elegant and a nice pour right from the bottle. Steak frites spendy but worth it, excellent beef, broccoli rabe and crispy fries. I've been here a couple of times, but yesterday I decided to visit for my birthday. Overall, I had a good experience. The hostess was very pleasant and cordial, but unfortunately, our server was not. He had no charisma and didn't make us feel welcomed (Our server was a tall young man with his hair tied up) We were quite hungry and had to wait a long time for him to take our order. Thankfully, another server named Ricardo stepped in and saved the day by taking our order -- he was great! The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. I truly love their food, and the place itself is so cute with beautiful decor. It's a Pretty place, and the service was very good. I went out with friends for lunch and enjoyed various foods, drinks, wines, and more. Some friends wanted to share their dishes so they could taste more than one item, so they cut them in half for them. They take reservations for lunch when some other places are closed, and they also take reservations. We overcame a couple of hurdles to make it to Faubourg and we were certainly glad we did. The first hurdle was that we agreed to get together with our friends, less than a week before a Saturday night. Most of the reservations were gone but I was able to secure an 8:30 reservation in the dining room. (They also have a beautiful enclosed patio area) The second hurdle was that we received a notification from the restaurant that parking may be difficult, because the Saturday we had chosen was the night of the big Montclair Jazz Festival. Thankfully the weather was great and we didn't mind a bit of a walk from our parking spot. With the hurdles out of the way (for the one or two readers that haven't scrolled past this review) I'll move on to the important part. We were seated perfectly on time for our 8:30 reservation. Faubourg is really a quite large restaurant, it's also gorgeous! Perfectly lit, comfortable seating, feels alive with noise until you sit at your table and can hear your friends, and oozing elegance. Every staff member was polite and professional. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful! She was patient, friendly, and gave the best recommendations to our table of first time customers. My friend and I shared 6 oysters, chicken liver mousse, and beef in pastry appetizers. We knew immediately that we were in for a great meal. The beef in pastry (it had a French name, I believe beef pithivier) was a mini Beef Wellington type of dish and it was extraordinary. Oysters had a fresh from the ocean taste and the chicken liver mousse was velvety. Our wives had shishito peppers and an heirloom tomato appetizer, also quite good. I selected the Beef Duo entree, my friend had the Coq au Vin, his wife had the salmon, and my wife had the roasted chicken entree. All of us truly enjoyed the main course. Beef Duo featured a sirloin cut, served on a bed of oxtail, mashed potatoes, and braised greens. It was divine! I tried my friend's Coq au Vin, the stewed bacon was so delicious, as was the chicken and sauce. My wife's roasted chicken was perfectly cooked and my friend's wife's salmon looked excellent as well. While we were obviously quite full already, dessert was a must. We shared a chocolate coulant, basically an extremely decadent mini chocolate lava cake with a quenelle of ice cream on the side and also had the passion fruit cheese cake. Loved them both. Had an excellent double shot of espresso to go with it, really high quality coffee served at optimal temperature. The drinks throughout the meal were also a highlight. The mixed drinks are creative and professionally crafted. It also turns out that their Sommelier just happens to own a vineyard in the Languedoc region. My wife and my friend really enjoyed the Pinot Noir (Lulumi) that he makes. An absolutely perfect evening, that had us all saying, this is one of the best meals we've had! read more

This was my third time at faubourg. The first time I got the orecchiette and lamb ragout pasta and it was so yummy , the second time I just got drinks. This third time I got the same pasta again. This time, the flavors of the pasta did not blend well together at all. The flavor profile was unappetizing. It was a completely different recipe than in the past. My friend got the same pasta and also did not like it. I overheard someone at the table next to us comment on how the food additionally tasted different. Beautiful ambiance here. With the greenery in the outdoor space, it feels as if you are on an island. The service was okay. I went for brunch and ordered off of their prix-fixe menu which was $39 for a select drink and two course options. My 'bil' opted for the "coq au vin" while my wife and 'sil' both had the Wild mushroom risotto & black truffle chicken (with sunchokes & tarragon). I had the beef duo (bavette/oxtail ragu, spinach, soubise). Yeah, I had to look up bavette and soubise too. Bavette is also known as 'flap steak'... kinda like flank steak. Not exactly sure what the difference is there. Soubise is a sauce made with butter, onions and cream. Even if you don't like onions... I think you'll love this wonderful sauce. Faubourg offers a nice selections of wine. We decided to go with the Daou cabernet sauvignon, which was one of the less expensive bottles I admit, but I've had this wine before and always enjoyed it. read more

My friend and I ate dinner at Faubourg and were glad we chose this spot. We sat at the bar where Frankie provided outstanding service. He recommended cocktails and entrees. The cocktails (spicy pineapple margaritas and old fashion were expertly mixed with balanced flavors. The steak and frites entree was an excellent-sized portion, and the steak was well-seasoned and cooked medium rare for our enjoyment. The star of the meal was the Orecchiette & Lamb Ragout. Came here to celebrate a birthday and it was a thoroughly enjoyable time! Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu items and extremely helpful. The service was quick without feeling rushed. This was my first time and I was pleased by how nice the inside was, it was spacious and clean. The food was presented beautifully, and mostly tasted great. The appetizers and sides were delicious, the grilled octopus was a favorite. For entrees, I got the branzino which could have used a bit of lemon but was otherwise ok. We got a few sides (mashed potatoes, fingerling potatoes, spinach) to share with the table and those were very good. For dessert, we got the rhubarb creme brulee which was spectacular! Quite possibly my favorite vibe / decor of any restaurant in NJ; the "outdoor" area windowed in is just gorgeous, on a sunny day it's basically perfect. I don't care about vibes but I'm writing about it, that's how nice this area is. Otherwise food was great, this is a pricey place but it delivered. Incredibly fresh salad, desserts had enough tweaks that they felt original, lunch portions of entrees were reasonable. Main downside is our waiter was not great. I really like the Pomona. We also got 1/2 a dozen east oysters to share. The bartender serving us was very nice. I was so surprised that this place is so baby friendly! I was previously here for late night drinks and it's such a different vibe than brunch. Brunch was great, they set up my 8m old with a high chair and crayons - he's a little young for that but it was cute. And he had his own little place mat too. Our server offered to wash his container after I finished feeding him (brought his own baby mush since he's still new to solids). Best service ever! Faubourg was my first experience at a French restaurant, and it was tremendous. The restaurant gives me the feeling of being whisked away to a private grotto, lemon trees are planted all around, while a babbling fountain soothes the roar of patron chatter. Our server was super nice and attentive, her recommendations were spot on when I did not know which wine I would like to have. Food was excellent, first experience having homemade butter as well, and boy it did not disappoint, I could almost taste the grass the cow ate, could say the same thing about the wagyu beef as well. The wagyu and short rib were cooked perfectly, Wagyu a beautiful medium rare and the short rib just dissolved with every bite.
