This one pound mozzarella stick definitely fulfilled that criteria. It was so gigantic it was almost like getting a workout in just to lift it. The outside was heavily breaded with bread crumbs and the top was sprinkled with parmesan cheese and chopped scallions. Even the dipping cup was supersized to accommodate the diameter of the stick! Typically, I would have posted until after my I finished my oversized food compilation project. However, it's being posted early because The Brookdale is permanently closing its doors. If you've seen their giant mozzarella stick online, yes it is good and worth it! I ordered the big mozz and a shrimp vodka pizza ; Both were real good but too much cheese for the two of us!!! Maybe a salad with the mozz stick woulda been better! Service was good and the restaurant with low lighting was a good vibe! Its split into a half bar and half dining area which i liked. Heard really great things about The Brookdale and made a spontaneous decision to try them for dinner. There was ample parking in the back lot and to our surprise the main entrance was in the back. We made a reservation and arrived right on time and were seated right away. It took a good 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us but once they did their service was decent overall. The sausage eggroll appetizer was just ok and wasn't popping with the flavor that we anticipated. The ribs were also just ok and the corn muffin that came along with it was burnt on the bottom and around the side. The burger had really great flavor and the fries were also really good. As crazy as it is we may come back just to see if perhaps we ordered the "wrong items" .... granted a muffin being burnt has no excuse, but, there were other intriguing items on the menu that may entice us to give the place one more shot. read more

The Brookdale is the ideal place for a date or hanging with friends. There is indoor and outdoor seating, as well as significant space at the bar. I came in for brunch over the weekend and was quickly seated. Our server was very pleasant and provided some great recommendations. I loved how there were a wide range of cocktails and they were only $11! I enjoyed a lovely cocktail that had lychee, vodka and lemon. My entree, shrimp and grits, was delightful as well. Lastly, I loved how there was ample parking behind the restaurant as well as significant street parking in front. Absolutely disappointing experience, my boyfriend had been here a few times prior about a year ago and was raving about it so I was super excited to go, especially because of the huge mozzarella stick. Let me begin with the service, completely lack luster they were not friendly, our waiter disappeared after giving us water and we had to flag down someone else to take our order after waiting literally 20 Minutes. My bf and I ordered two appetizers which should usually be quick, no not at all. we waited almost 45 minutes for a cold Mozzerella stick and some boneless wings. There was no apology for the wait, there was no attentiveness to us and other people who sat after us were receiving there food while we had to Flag down a few times just to see where our appetizers were. After that him and I were ready to leave and again the waiters just disappeared. Fed up I had to get up and request to pay so we can leave, all I was told was that the computer was down. no one came to Tell us that, no one apologized at all, it was just an overall very disappointing experience. This is a beautiful restaurant! The service was ok. I had a taco salad that was really good. I really went there for the big cheese but I have to admit that the reviews that said it's overrated were right. I wish I could get my money back for that one because I didn't even end up eating it. My husband had the ribs. We agreed that the cornbread muffin that came with it was one of the best we've ever tasted, just light and buttery and delicious. He also thoroughly enjoyed the ribs. I recommend this place, but I also recommend passing on the pound of cheese. read more

My husband and I celebrated my birthday dinner here. I did make reservations and I am sure glad I did. It definitely was busy at 6:30pm on Saturday. It was a really nice space. It was small-ish but still was spacious. They were out of a few of the speciality cocktails which was disappointing. My husband ordered a drink - they were out, and then ordered another - they were out. My whole reason for going here was the giant mozzarella stick. You better believe I ordered it. It was just as good as I imagined it would be. My husband and I shared and it was just so creamy and delicious. For my husband's entree, he got the '1/2 Rack St. Louis Ribs' which was a dry rub with came with cole slaw and corn bread. He loved it. I've been wanting to try here ever since they opened. My fiancé and I were finally back in Bloomfield and stopped by Friday night! We started with "The Premio" egg rolls, a jalapeño margarita and a nothing is real. The egg rolls were good; I liked the dipping sauce. My cocktail was just ok, wouldn't order it again. I ordered the big sexy 2.0 and my fiancé had the steak sammy. My cheeseburger was AMAZING. The bacon in the patty added an amazing salty flavor. I asked for medium and it was more like medium well, but no biggie. It's served with hand cut potato chips which were good but I love me some fries. The steak sammy had huge pieces of steak. It was good but we agreed it could've been seasoned a little more/better. For our second round of drinks we had the come a little closer and four city citrus city beer. I really enjoyed this cocktail. We sat at a high top by the bar and the tables are little close together. The table next to us was talking very loudly which made it hard to hear our own convo. The Brookdale is an outstanding place for a Sunday Brunch. The dining area and bar are well decorated and very welcoming. One thing I noticed in the spacious area was the sound lever being excellent. The greeter and service staff were very good. It was obvious that our waiter was new to the biz but one of his coworkers assisted him with eloquence by seamlessly backing him keeping out coffee full and doing that expert server glance while passing by. Bravo on the front house management for balancing the floor staff. The food was outstanding!!! We had breakfast on this visit but plan to return since this place has a diverse menu. It's a restaurant and a sports bar all in one and this looks like a great place to have some beers and bar food while watching the games. This place is a must try!!! read more

Went here for my birthday with the fam this week, and i would never recommend this place again. For starters, we walk in and there are no servers to greet us. I wasn't even sure if we walked in through the right door because there's no hostess at all around. I walked over to a gentleman myself, and told him we had reservations for 4 for 5:30. He says okay all we have available is the high top table, which is fine He sits us, and probably about 3 minutes pass before someone comes over and pours us piss warm water. Another 10 minutes pass and the waiter who sat us finally comes over to take our orders. To add, there were two ladies waving their hands like they were at a concert trying to get someone's attention for a few minutes as well. The drink came out nice and fast, the food took way too long to the point where we asked the waiter if there was any update. It had to be like 20 minutes for the food, luckily they had football on. Food came, it was okay. My father asked one waiter the waiter who brought his food for red pepper flakes, which never came. Why is this place so dark? It made me feel better knowing we weren't the only table needing to use our phone light to see the menu. The lighting is beyond poor in the corner next to the bar. My father then asked another waiter for red pepper flakes because the first server must have been hiding away. At this point it's getting comical and i'm apologizing to everyone for picking this spot. I said they had 4.2 stars so i thought it'd be at least decent. The bartender was the nicest person of them all, she brought some of our food over, brought our drinks, cleaned our table, asked us if we wanted to go boxes. She did EVERYTHING. We paid the tab, the waiter asks us how was everything and my dad was nice enough not to ask where his RED PEPPER FLAKES WERE! I don't know if the service was so bad because all the servers were fresh out of high school, but there wasn't more than 10 families in the establishment it had no excuse to be this slow. I go to a bar afterwards, and i mention my experience to a few people and to no surprise, they had similar experiences, basically only highlighting the bartenders as the sole reason anyone goes here. I would never go to this place again. This is a hidden gem in Bloomfield. Came here for some late night drinks and finger food to cap my birthday celebration. We sat by the bar and our bartender was great. He had a few recommendations for food which turn-out to be great. The drinks were on point and the food was delicious. The ambient is also great - mature crow for sure. I have been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened and it did not disappoint! First of all, it is a beautiful restaurant and the server was so fun with great suggestions. We ordered the Korean birria tacos which were delicious (although I felt it was missing like a refreshing coleslaw or kimchi slaw). And the big sexy was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. We ordered a few things off the menu that we could share. All really good! - Blistered Shishito Peppers. He ate most of these. I had a few (good, i just can't handle the heat as much as he can). - Thick Hand Cut Chips. I ended up eating most of these. They were really good and came with a dipping sauce. - Kale Salad. This was my favorite. Planning to try to make a dup version at home. - Mushroom Pie. This is an awesome option for vegetarians. It's a hardy pizza pie with strong flavor profiles with the cheese and caramelized onion. IMO - If I were drinking beers with dinner, this is pie perfect. That night I was just drinking water, so the flavor profiles were a little too strong for me. We both agreed that it was good we shared - so each of us had a few slices and half the salad (for balance). Overall - Good eats, good vibe. Our waiter took care of us. Has a good TV selection for viewing games and music wasn't too loud. We stopped in after visiting Fanny's for a drink to watch the game. The bartender proceeded to inform us that they only had 3 beers on tap, one of which was bud light (of course they have that one, no one likes it). Went to the bottles and asked for two different beers, both they didn't have. Ordered a pizza, the only thing stopping this from being a one star. But definitely overpriced for the small 6 pieces you get. They also didn't have their signature dessert, chocolate lava cake. I was very excited about breakfast at Brookdale with my girls. I have to admit that this has to be one of my favorite Brunches in awhile ! Wonderful atmosphere, food, and service. I order "The Burger" as my entrée and a side of handmade potato chips.The burger was outstanding, the best I've had in a long time. This heavily seeded loaf was stuffed with excellent, tender meat, cheddar cheese, cola-cooked onions, and their own burger sauce.The onions had been properly prepared and were so soft they almost melted in your mouth. With the Brookdale sauce and cheddar cheese, they combined flawlessly. The freshly prepared potato chips were excellent. One of my friends ordered the "Biscuits and Gravy" she said they were the BEST she had ever had. And, I must say, she wasn't lying. The biscuits were moist, fresh, and warm, and the gravy was flavorful and loaded with tasty sausage bits in bite-sized pieces. We also order the SHAKSHUKA, which was loaded with spices and flavor. The dish was comforting, delectable, and delicious. For dessert, we ordered the CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST to share. I visited here on a Tuesday night with 2 friends. We had a reservation and were seated right away. It wasn't busy and we were able to sit outside. There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant (where the hostess is) which we accessed through the IHOP entrance. Our waiter Christoper was friendly and attentive. He provided us good service. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees to share. We started with the carolina gold crispy wings and spinach artichoke mac & cheese. The carolina gold was like a mustard / tangy bbq type taste idk how to really describe but I'm not really a fan of mustard and I really enjoyed them. It's how the waiter described it btw lol. For entrees we ordered the chicken parm, pepperoni pizza and Korean BBQ tacos birria style. The tacos come with 2 but you have the option of adding more for an additional fee (I believe $5-6 more). Having checked out the menu for The Brookdale online prior to going I still had no idea exactly what I wanted to try out. It's a nice size menu and everything looks so good! Luckily we got a bit of help from the owners with our selections so we just sat back and enjoyed. We visited the Brookdale on one of the first nicer days of weather for the year. It was so tempting to sit at one of the nice outdoor tables but the dining room is also a very comfortable setting so we chose to dine indoors for this trip. I would absolutely sit outside next time though. For appetizer selections we began with the Thick Cut Bacon, Premio Egg Roll, Maryland Crab Dip, and The Big Cheese! The bacon was insane. This meat that is somewhere between the thickness of bacon and of a slab of pork belly, had such interesting flavor. One second it was like chewing bacon and the next it was almost like kielbasa. This is smoked in house and you can tell they give delicate attention to it. The Premio egg rolls use Premio Sweet Italian Sausage and blend in broccoli rabe, long hots, and provolone before being wrapped and fried. These alone were quite good but adding a shot of their red pepper aioli really rounded the whole dish out. It felt like what an Italian Sausage cheesesteak might taste like if that were ever created. The Maryland Crab Dip also had nice flavor. You could tell they were using real top of the line crab and the creaminess and flavor of the dip was nice on the warm toasted pita. I normally don't really love seafood and cheese together but this was an exception to the rule. The Big Cheese was seriously something else. This was a full one pound mozzarella stick! Normally I'd assume this was a stunt food and just gets by based solely on it's size, but this had a really good flavor as well. Good quality cheese, toasted perfectly, and the breading had a bit of sweetness that was not expected but was nice. The sauce was also a bit sweet but was seasoned well. For entrees we had the burger (literally just called the burger on the menu) and the steak sammy. The burger was very good, best burger I've had in quite a while. Pressed between this heavily seeded roll was high quality beef, cola braised onions, cheddar cheese, and their house burger sauce. The onions were cooked perfectly and melted as you chewed. The flavor of them blended very well with the cheddar and Brookdale sauce. Nothing Earth shattering here, just a burger done really well. It was also cooked to a perfect medium rare which is an bonus in itself these days. The Steak Sammy was out of this world. This is not a cheesesteak, and I'm so happy it wasn't. This sandwich boasts filet mignon with a provolone and mozzarella mix, kale, sautéed mushroom and onion, and finished with a house made a1 style sauce. The steak was incredibly tender and the onions and mushrooms just belonged here...there's no other way to say it. I can always take or leave kale but it worked on this application, and that a1 sauce they made really rounded this out. If you find yourself literally anywhere near Bloomfield at all, firstly make sure you have your wallet (this is high quality food, but the prices reflect that), but then run yourself in and hope to get a table. I came back for lunchtime with my coworkers and was pleasantly pleased with the food we had. We shared the crab Alfredo pie which was delicious and tasty. My first review of 2023! I always have an excellent time when I go to The Brookdale. I've been here for brunch, lunch, and dinner. I've dined both inside and outside, and each time it has been quite lovely. I would say my favorite time to come is around brunch / lunch. I do love eating breakfast foods with a nice, fancy alcoholic beverage. Last time I visited I had the cannoli french toast and it was decadent and so so so so so so good. It was the perfect amount of food, it is definitely sweet, but not overly so. My friend and I shared the bacon because they claim it's the "best ever." And while it certainly was delicious, it was a thick cut and cooked perfectly, I do prefer my bacon thin and crispy. I am NOT going to knock them for it because for a thick cut piece of bacon, it rocked! I've also had a few of their salads and their Korean BBQ tacos. All fantastic! I have yet to go wrong with anything I order at The Brookdale. Oh! I've also brought my kids here and they have a kids menu, so The Brookdale is for everyone! Now, the drinks! I always enjoy the drinks. They take a little longer to come to the table, but that's OK because they are making it extra special. Last time I visited I had the wannabe and the 1979 - two totally different drinks but both epically tasty in their own right. After having brunch we sometimes head to Brookdale Park to walk around the paths or play on the playground. The Brookdale has excellent food in an excellent location. I am lucky enough to be able to go out to eat quite a bit. And I have been to a lot of amazing restaurants, but I have to say this was my best meal of the year hands-down no one else even came close.. There is literally not one thing I would change about this restaurant. The staff were great. They were warm and friendly, they got us in at the last minute on New Year's Eve. The food and drinks I can't say enough about them. We started with some sort of Mediterranean salad, which was a game changer so good. We had the tuna poke bites, which were absolutely delicious , you could tell they use high-quality ingredients, and the presentation was outstanding. My boyfriend had the shrimp and grits without the chorizo and he was almost going to get a second order to take home with us so that's how good it was. I had the Bronzino with some sort of squash couscous. I've never tasted anything that wonderful before in my life. I highly recommend a drink, called the wannabe. It was like a vanilla orange juice with rum. We cannot wait to return. read more

I am forced to leave this review due to no response from the management. Went to The Brookdale on Memorial Day for brunch, but they said they won't serve brunch on Monday so we went with their lunch menu. Ordered a bunch of appetizers and entres and most of it was delicious. Our party loved the food and service was friendly too. Great experience overall. 5 stars . Now why is this a 1 star review? I'll tell you why. We were a large party, 2 families and at the end we split the bill by 2. I didn't have the wallet on me so I had to go to their front desk and tap my phone to pay my portion. Now, since it was a large party, an automatic gratuity was included in the bill. I don't typically go through my statement, but for some reason I came across an amount which was ~20% more than what I had paid for and realized they had added "extra" tip on top of it. I called few days ago and asked them to revert the charge which I did not authorize. Chef JK (Jonathan) told me to send him an email with the details and said he'll take action within 3 hours. I also cross verified with the other family and they checked their Amex statement and confirmed their portion of the bill was ~20% lower than mine. I'm a generous tipper, but I don't want to tip ~40-50%, and not without my permission. I called repeatedly and Jonathan has not returned the call, nor replied to the email nor given the money back. I don't really care about a few bucks, but the principle matters to me. 1 star. read more

Heard about this gem from a video on TikTok! Had to stop by for a Saturday brunch. My friend and I were so happy to see cocktails offered! I got the Reuben Quesadilla and my friend got the Nashville hot chicken Benedict. We were both happy with our meals but the thick hand cut chips were surprisingly our favorite part of the meal! We always drive this by this place on our way home from church, and finally decided to stop by. It was on a Sunday, around lunch time and it was a little busy. The entrance was a little confusing because the main entrance is in the back of the restaurant, but there is also an entrance in the front on the street. We sat outside, as it was a nice day out. We had a burger, with the homemade chips, and one of the pizzas. Both of them tasted really good. The chips were great, some of the best homemade ones I have had. The pizza was also very unique and was a different style then you usually see around the area. The prices were a little bit more than the average place, but it is extremely close to Montclair, and the vibes are that of a slightly fancier place. The reason for taking off one star, and I even considered taking off two stars was the service. As mentioned, there is an entrance in the front, but the main entrance with the hostess stand is located in the back of the building because there is a parking lot there. We entered through the front, and there were no signs directing to go to the hostess stand. We stood there with waiters walking passed us for about ten minutes before anybody even acknowledged us. We asked for a table and waited another ten minutes, until finally someone noticed we were frustrated and about to leave. This gentleman immediately sat us and came over several times to check on how we were doing even though he wasn't our waiter. I will definitely return again, but I really hope that the service is improved next time and that this was just an off day. read more

The service is pretty good, I asked if they could make me a Last Word (cocktail) and they said yes they'll Google the recipe. I would have definitely given them 4 stars, but I just got home with my to go dessert of chocolate mousse cake and it's absolutely horrible :( Burnt, dry, and has a horrible taste as if it's at least 2 weeks old. Bad dessert is huge, I'm hoping this was just an off night and it's not usually this bad. Soooooooo... I had the much hyped giant mozzarella stick at Brookdale. It just was not good. I appreciate how fast the food came, just a couple minutes, but the mozzarella stick was room temperature. The cheese also did not taste fresh. It was a below average mozzarella stick that I could not even finish. Would not recommend. read more

It was 9:30 pm on a Friday evening and this was the only place that had the kitchen open, availability and close by. (We were in the area). We are so glad we called and headed over! They had parking in the back, entrance in the back with indoor and outdoor seating. They also had a separate bar. It was lovely inside! Very modern, sexy looking and very spacious! The staff provided great service, had friendly voices and faces! We were seated right away way and we're taken care of minutes of being seated. They had a nice bar area filled with high tops and a cool ambience with nice music. They also had a separate room in the back that wasn't closed in but divided for a private party or large group. The outdoor seating was gorgeous!!! Very nicely decorated and tasteful with a modern, cool yet warm decor. (See pics of outdoor seating and fresh florals on the exterior entrance.) I am not familiar with Bloomfield but feel like the venue didn't fit in with the block. Again-not familiar with the town. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5 is due to the menu. I love the fact that they offered a cool kids menu but the main menu was just OK. I like their unique dishes but feel it was too unique and selected for some. My husband, for instance, wasn't crazy about any of the menu items. He was, however delighted after tasting the food. My son had the kids pizza and it was amaZing!! Fresh, doughy, super cheesy and filling. The server was amazing because my son ordered apple juice but they didn't have any. He ordered a cranberry juice and she immediately exchanged it for lemonade when he wasn't fond of the cranberry juice. My hubby ordered a burger called the sexy something or big sexy. He loved it! Loved the taste, the juiciness and the fact that it remained intact. It did not get messy nor fall apart. He was disappointed about the chips that accompanied it rather than regular fries. My son and I however, LOVED the chips! They were huge, fresh, tasty and crispy!! Yummers! Ruined my diet but totally with it!! We also ordered buffalo wings which were outstanding!! Juicy, fresh, perfectly cooked and saucy. They were buffalo but a tad sweet also! I had the salmon which was well cooked but it was just OK. It was a good size but I wasn't wowed to be honest. This is a great place to come for drinks and finger foods. They have some dinners, but their focus seems to be bar type shareable. We ordered the thick hand cut chips which came with a Herb truffle mayo sauce for dipping. Soooo good!! Housemaid thick cut bacon. Two nice slices. Delicious The smoked Gouda mac & cheese... divine!! I love Gouda cheese. The steak sammy. Which was actually a steak filet cooked to perfection. Very tender and flavorful. Excellent Chicken tenders which were awesome!! I ordered a side of grits bc I was having issues eating ... stitches in the gums. The grits were off the hook!! Awesome... Tried the apple crumble for dessert. Wow oh wow.. actually had real apples !! Love it!! Definitely going back!! read more
