Coming in on Saturday evening on Labor Day weekend, I wasn't sure what to expect. But it wasn't very busy and there was plenty of parking. You walk in and the ambience is intimate and dark but still friendly. We were seated immediately and we were taken care of right away. I had the Swiss mushroom burger and it was definitely one of the better ones I've had! Really good mushrooms and good burger patty. My friend had the bacon cheeseburger without the cheese and he also said it was pretty good. Overall the prices were right, it was a good place for a good burger which is what I was craving, and I would definitely return! Would want to sample some of their other food. One of the things I enjoy most about coming to New Jersey is going to all the different diners and pubs and just enjoying what they have. Very good! We stopped by around 6:30 on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar. You can tell there's alot of regulars who stop in! Vibes are super chill and laid back. They have tables, high tops and bar seating. We ordered the Chicken Milanese and a Cheddar burger with sweet potato fries. Had a very disappointing Philly CheeseSteak Sandwich yesterday at the normally very reliable Grasshopper in Cedar Grove, The sub roll contained about 4 tiny pieces of overcooked, tough pieces of meat, with a tiny bit of cheese, wtf? Probably weight 2-3 oz of meat lol. I had gotten it as a take out and wasn't going to take it back, as I like the owner and staff. Wife got a Fish & /chips which was just ok, but not a lot there, as well. Guess times have gotten tough for restaurants w the high prices. I'll stick to the Burgers next time. read more

we have been going here for more than 20 years yesterday left us wondering about how things are currently being run. there is not enough wait staff the two waitresses were running like chickens with their heads cut off. the hostess was taking drink orders too. when our witness finally came to our table she did apologize for the delay and cheerfully took our order. we waited a long time to get our one appetizer which was served by someone else and it came out cold. our entrees were what we expected and then the wait came for the check. when our witness finally appeared i handed her my credit card and asked for a container. she came back with both and we headed out. if they don't want to add more wait staff they should consider hiring runners for the food. we felt sorry for the waitresses who were also hindered by the table layout in the dining room where they had to take a full lap around the tables to get to the one closest to the kitchen. on our next visit we will make sure we sit at the bar read more

So this place is 'old school' local sports bar/pub. A blast from the past. Pull up a chair next to the locals and knock back a brewski...... Food is basic pub fare, tasty and well priced. They have a fun Happy Hour on Sunday during football games. Everyone that works here seem to have been employed here for several decades. Some of the servers and bartenders have real life attitudes but it makes the time here quite entertaining. We wanted to love this place but they're not following Covid policies. We're here, at night, and there's a huge crowd. No one is wearing a mask at the bar. They're not enforcing social distancing or anything. It's just a mosh pit of people with no masks and no enforcement. I've been to many bars that have asked all people to stay in their seats and have waitresses so no one is just standing/moving around. read more

This was the last of the grasshoppers I haven't been to. I find them to be fun, old school Irish bar-ish and moderately priced. You don't really go for their entrees, maybe some apps and some delicious, fresh Guinness. A lot of locals and young kids go here but it's a fun atmosphere. There is ample bar seating and tables. It wasn't too busy on a random Thursday night. Definitely hit it up if you are in the area. Good beer and friendly service. Enjoy! read more

Let me first start by saying, I will never go here again! 1. Found a long hair in my soup, informed the waitress and she came back with new ones for my friend and I. 2. They then take over an hour to bring out our main course, only to bring the incorrect dish for my friend, so she had to wait another 10-15 minutes for her food. 3. "The Bill", as I'm in a rush to leave, b'cuz lunch was not meant to be 2+ hours long, I give them my CC to run; only to see that they charged me for 3 entrees, and an extra beer. I ask them to void the last charge and make the changes. She does so, but doesn't give me the 'voided receipt' I then have to find her (yet again)and ask for it. Word of advice, if you mess up this many times, throw something the customer's way, like a % off, or comp something. Major disappointment! read more

This is your standard Irish local pub/tavern with good home cooked style food. The weight staff is feisty yet sweet and the food comes out in good portions and hot. My fiance and I came the night before Thanksgiving. I ordered the baked ham entree with mashed potatoes and veggies. The ham was good but a little bit too soft for my preference but those mashed potatoes were amazing; I could have eaten an entire plate. My fiance got the Weds special Chicken Pot Pie and I would come back on a Weds just for that! The pie is full of white meat chicken, veggies, and has a crisp pastry on top. Came to The Grasshopper for trivia night and loved it! Bob was the host and he was great. Trivia started at 9pm till 11pm. We got second place and won $10 (not bad for our first time). For our table we shared buffalo wings which were good. I ordered the metro salad and my friend ordered a grasshopper burger. It was a good size portion and tasted great. I will definitely be becoming back next Tuesday. read more

One word "sigh"....I can remember when this place was "the place to go". Now it just feels like they want this place to close down. We first sat at the bar, and then after 5 minutes with not even acknowledgement from the bartender, we decided to get a table in the dining room. We got our Yuengling pints pretty quickly, but the beer tasted like the tap-lines hadn't been cleaned in years. To order our appetizer and entrees we had to flag down our waitress everytime. Apparently because we were not "regulars" at this place, we didn't deserve her time. We ordered some "broccoli bites" which was always a winner, but this time, they were burnt and tasted like fish. My guess is that they cook their fish and chips in the same oil. When our entrees came out, we ordered another beer, but it never came (more on that later). I had a burger which was ok, but again the fries tasted like fish. When we realized the beer that we ordered with our food wasn't going to come, we asked for the check and figured no harm, no foul. My guess is that when our waitress added up the check she realized that she never brought the beer. She arrived with the check and the missing beer in which we said, "no thanks" to the beer. She walked away with the beer and removed it from our tab. It would've been nice if she said, "Sorry about the beer, you know what? This one's on me" Its not like they can re-serve it. Like I said before we watched tables with "regulars" get far better service than us. It really is a shame, this place used to be good. As another reviewer said, there's plenty of other local pubs in the area. The Grasshopper in Morristown is still awesome...I just wouldn't go back to the one in Cedar Grove. read more

Just left this place. Typically it's good, your local bar to grab a bite. However, tonight we were met by a hostess who was clearing jonesing, coming down from a high that I could only assume was heroin based off her rapid movements. She handed us the special's menu that was now crumpled because she couldn't stop her hand from closing into a fist. Shortly thereafter, she was vomiting in the bathroom because it was now confirmed that she was coming down from a high. We asked another waitress to check on her welfare, a few minutes later, she reappeared. Now, however, she approached an older man who just entered the bar, they then walked to the back drink area, where only staff is allowed. This man clearly didn't work there, and I could only assume was there to resupply her with narcotics. The food was fine, but I hope management sees this to get rid of the wait staff that work there when no one is looking. read more

Customer arrive is good expect we wanted to order more food at 10:06 and the waitress said "Oh the kitchen is closed. If I would have known I would have told you guys." Any time I'm at a restaurant and the kitchen is about to close, the waitress always lets her tables know that the kitchen is about to close and she asks if there is anything else the customers want before they close. So how doesn't she know that the kitchen was gonna close. Isn't this her job. It's fine though. The reason for the four stars are because the resturant is clean. It's packed on a Tuesday which is Trivia night. There is a lot of parking and besides the waitress not knowing what time the kitchen closes and not letting us know that it's closing, she was nice. The other employees were sweethearts as well. The food isn't all that. I had a burger that was okay. I had this burnt after taste in my mouth. I wouldn't come back for the burger, that's for sure. We also had an order of buffalo wings as appetizers, I would come back for the wings. There not amazing but they are good. Anyways if you're looking for something to do or eat during the week and it's late, I say give this place a try. read more

I would never go back here again, to start our table was filthy with old dried up remnants on it. The menu was the same, like they never been wiped down. Food was nauseating. The French fries are definitely cooked in old oil. The lettuce in the salad was brown. The bathroom is absolutely filthy. One and done, never again. Service was so so, I didn't realize I ordered a grumpy waitress, the only time she looked happy was when we handed her the check on our way out the door. read more
