Good food, beautiful interior, quick service. The combinations on the hand rolls were good, but nothing amazing. For the price and area, I'd say it was an average experience.

Nami Nori seemed like a cool concept with the open style hand rolls with unique flavors. However, simple is better when it comes sushi. I felt having to assemble the sushi piece with the loose toppings was a bit messy to eat. So many crumbs and pieces were flying off as I bit down. Also It was the same way you eat a hot dog, so not the most elegant way to eat. The signature set sounded like the better deal since it includes 5 temakis. The portion turned out to be enough, but I'm not a huge eater. For my husband this would be an appetizer portion. None of the pieces were memorable to me and I wasn't even sure what I was eating. There were too many toppings and such covering the fish. The flavors were too much that every piece seemed to taste the same. The service was polite and friendly. Not the typical aloof servers you find at Asian restaurants. The place was clean and minimalistic.

Food: The fish is fresh and delicious here. The presentation is beautiful and quality of the food is great. The furikake fries were very flavorful and crispy. All of the temaki tasted good; we didn't have a bad piece. The seaweed is served separately and you assemble it yourself so that it doesn't get soggy as you're eating. Service: Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Ambiance: This restaurant is a good size with seating at the sushi bar and tables on the side. It's good for both large and small groups. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant!

We heard about this place through friends and bookmarked it as one of the spots to try. Securing a reservation was quite easy, depending on the time. Upon arrival, we noticed the sushi bar dominating about one-third of the eatery. The ambiance is best described as elegantly minimalistic. The host greeted us warmly and led us to our seats at the sushi bar. As we browsed the menu, we chose the following: Appetizer - Winter Special: Miso braised leeks - 3.5/5 stars. The outer leaves were still intact, making it less than ideal as we consumed this appetizer. Thus, I deducted half a star for that. I did enjoy the char on the leek and the sauce. The Signature Set, which includes 5 temaki rolls (U-shaped): 1. Tuna poke - 5/5 Stars. Simply divine. The crispy shallots gave it a textural contrast to the tuna temaki itself. 2. X.O. Scallop - 4/5 Stars. The scallop should have been the star; however, the X.O. sauce was used too generously. It overpowered the scallop, preventing us from fully appreciating its sweet, buttery, and briny notes. 3. Coconut Shrimp - 3/5 Stars. The shrimp was made into a paste and deep-fried. While this is a favorite among many, according to the itamae, the flaked coconut and breadcrumbs provided plenty of crunch, but the shrimp's natural sweetness and juiciness were lost. 4. Salmon Serrano - 5/5 Stars. Fresh and perfectly balanced by the sharp and delicious heat of the serrano peppers. 5. Cucumber Black Sesame - 4/5 Stars. Bold in flavor, which surprised me since it was the final temaki in the set. I was expecting something lighter and sweeter, as most Japanese restaurants end their sushi with the final piece with sweetness. The sauce is plum-forward, and the black sesame masks the cucumber's lightness. The seafood is extremely fresh, but the itamae, at times, drowned the temaki with the sauce. Ideally, the sauce should enhance, and not overshadow, the seafood. The service was polite and attentive. The itamae explained each piece as it was served, and the servers ensured our cups were always full. While the sushi bar occupies about one-third of the space, there are also tables that comfortably seat groups of four or more. Despite the spacious layout, reservations can still be difficult to secure. Street parking is available, though the ease of finding a spot varies depending on the time.

We've tried to dine here a few times. It's been a difficult reservation. You can accord that to one of two things, or maybe both. One is that it appears to be on the small side as far as seating. The other would be that it's been a popular place to dine. The menu is different than expected of what might be viewed as a sushi restaurant. It's also limited in size when compared with other sushi restaurants. The sushi is presented differently. We did not find any cut rolls on the menu. The rolls are all akin to hand rolls, though diners wrap them on their own at their table. I did not know how to adequately describe this process, so I consulted AI to obtain the following paragraph. "Nami Nori serves high-quality, innovative temaki (hand rolls) in an open, U-shaped "taco" style with warm rice and crispy nori. They offer a variety of flavors, from classic combinations like tuna avocado to unique options such as tuna poke with crispy shallots, coconut shrimp with green curry, and spicy crab dynamite with a crunchy rice puff topping. The rolls are intended to be eaten right away to appreciate the crispness of the nori and the warmth of the rice." Our own experience is as follows. We started by ordering the recommended 5 rolls each. Once we ordered those we decided to add the caviar appetizer. While the caviar itself was very good, we found the accompaniments less so, as we felt the rice chips and onion cream to be too heavy for such a delicacy and think the caviar could be better used as an addition to the temaki. As to the temaki rolls, we each selected our own assortments, rather than go with the house suggested "sets" of 5 tamaki rolls. Among those we ordered were the spicy tuna, spicy lobster, yellowtail + scallion, toro + scallion, red crab California, and spicy crab dynamite. All were really, truly, excellent. It's a BYOB establishment in Montclair, unlike their other NY and Florida locations. We did not partake in dessert. Service was good, though it could have been better. We were initially presented with someone else's bill. Seating also feels cramped. Perhaps we should have eaten outdoors. All in all, we will be back. It was worth a repeat, though it is a pricey meal ($166 at a BYOB) compared with other sushi restaurants, though not by enough to be a discouragement. Lastly, I must mention that I've tired of playing the Jerry F. game. Huh? Jerry F. is another NJ-based Yelper who retaliates by posting an OH NO to every one of my reviews when I dared disagree with one of his reviews with an OH NO. It's a shame one cannot have an honest disagreement, or a different experience, without being targeted with vengeance, as it's been tit for tat ever since. I'm done playing this infantile game with Jerry F. and regret such a narrow mind exists in the YELP community, so no more of me posting OH NO on his reviews, though I'm sure he will keep doing so on mine, especially as he would not even deal with a message discussion I attempted about his antics and he blocked me after the very first OH NO. Beware.

Thank goodness they have opened a handroll restaurant outside of NYC! Great place to enjoy hand rolls in Montclair. Had a reservation on a week night and we were seated immediately. The staff was very friendly and explained everything to us perfectly. The restaurant itself is quite modern looking and you can choose to sit at a table or at the counter to have your meal prepared. Started off with the shishito peppers, served with a honey miso, definitely needed for those surprise spicy shishitos that come through. Really tasty start to the meal. Went right into the hand rolls afterwards. The nori stays in plastic until you pull it off so that it remains crispy and fresh until you are ready to eat. We loved all the hand rolls we tried, but the stand out to my wife and me was definitely the poached lobster roll, absolutely delicious with the bits of potato on top. The other stand outs were the scallop and the spicy tuna. Would definitely try out more rolls next time. Would recommend to all!

Stopped by Nami Nori for our anniversary dinner and it was an awesome experience! This was my first time having sushi rolls like this and they were all absolutely delicious and it was cool to try soemthing new. We got the spicy tuna dip as a starter (insanely good with wonton chips) and then got a cannoli and sesame chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The restaurant is super clean and has an awesome modern/Japanese vibe. Our servers were all super nice and offered great service. I cannot recommend nami nori enough!

Solid option, welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Stopped here for dinner before a show and had a corner booth near the kitchen. Mix of counter (2) and table seating. Clean and crisp space. Bright and airy. Didn't love the disposable chopsticks and napkin vibe.. Also didn't prefer the individually wrapped rolls would rather not have to work for the meal ingredients falling out for my husband The restaurant filled up pretty quick let between 5-6PM. Recommended to order 5 hand rolls for a meal. I went for 4 along with our appetizers and felt plenty full. I ordered the: XOs Scallop (5/5) great balance of textures and flavor Spicy Lobster (4/5) good but not my fave Spicy tuna (5/5) yum! Loved the freshness of the jalapeño Toro scallion (5/5) simple and delicious All were super fresh and filling. My husband got some of the same plus the crispy crab, and uni both were great. Appetizer wise we got Ocean trout shashimi (4/5) thicker pieces of fish which might not be for everyone, flavor was good, could've eaten more haha the tempura misto (5/5) heavy on the breading but a good mix of veg and seafood with a side of spicy mayo We had time to kill and a bottle of wine to finish so we added the furikake fries which were decent but definitely put me over the top filling wise haha

Really enjoyed our meal at Nami Nori. The aesthetic of the restaurant itself is so clean & bright and made for a nice atmosphere. The handrolls tasted very fresh and the self assembly with the seaweed served separately was fun too!

I flew in from the Bay Area some weeks ago and stayed with my friend for life who lives close by. After dropping off my luggage, we walked over on a Monday night with no reservations. The interior is gorgeous and designed incredibly well. We sat outside, though, since I was on a plane and in airports all day. It was glorious. I'd never tried temaki before and I was skeptical but HOLY MOLY IT WAS AWESOME. We did the tasting option and my friend did a starter set whilst I went with a custom selection (thanks to the server for helping me choose) and I really wish I wrote down what I had it was sooooo goooood. We started with the spicy tuna dip (YUM) and I ordered soup that they forgot about for a while. When they realized, they gave us some bamboo shoots as a kindness AND THEY WERE BOMB TOO!!!! Allll of the staff was friendly and charming and weirdly good-looking. I can't wait to go back. Sometimes it's tough on the tummy after a full day of travel but this food was scrumptious AND easy on my stomach. It was a dream!

The best way for me to describe this dining experience is well curated. The atmosphere was sleek and modern to create an elevated feel. The food was also very enticing and had unique flavors. The temaki roll set was pretty amazing all around with; fresh ingredients, toppings that complemented the seafood well, crispy nori, and bold flavors. I will say though, occasionally one of my bites would be almost too savory from uneven topping distribution, but that's a nitpick. Aside from the set, the crispy rice chips with spice tuna dip was a great appetizer to really prep your taste buds for the start of the great meal.

Fun, whimsical restaurant in the heart of Montclair for a solid meal. Great decor and service complement the high quality fresh fish in this establishment. Fresh ingredients served in small plates for individuals or to share for a great meal that you get to watch get made if you sit at the counter. Great choice for a different type of meal and experience when you are in the area. Been there several times and it's on our rotation list!

The moment I stepped into Nami Nori, I was impressed by the gorgeous interior. The windows along the walls allowed for natural sunlight to light up the restaurant, and the minimalist, modern furniture and table settings complemented the warm lighting and made for a clean, open look. Our server was very helpful and welcoming. He provided recommendations and even shared his personal favorites. I ordered the signature set (tuna poke, x.o. scallop, coconut shrimp, salmon serrano, and cucumber black sesame). Each temaki was beautifully garnished and packed w/ flavor. They were all so delicious, but my favorites were the tuna poke, x.o. scallop, and salmon serrano. If you're willing to pay the extra money for the cool experience and meal, I definitely recommend.

I ordered the buttermilk cast iron pancake with berries, turkey sausage, and scrambled eggs on the side. The pancake itself was disappointing. It tasted more like cornbread, and not the slightly sweet kind like Jiffy, but more savory and noticeably salty. It was also pretty dry. The mascarpone cream and berries helped balance things out a bit, but I'm not sure if too much lemon or salt was added because my pancake leaned heavily on the salty side. I also tried the "All Night Long" drink, which I actually really enjoyed. It was strong and well-made, and I'd definitely recommend it.
