We finally made it here. It was well worth the wait. We tried almost everything on the menu. We had apps, the Ramen with and without the broth, plus their zeppole. Definitely much easier to get in during the week. The place was even full on a Tuesday night

Finally made my way to NJ to check out pastaRAMEN after seeing the feature on Eater! As a fan of wafu restaurants, I enjoyed my meal but didn't find it to be as impressive as hyped up to be. Started off with the clams and the calamari. The clams featured an addicting onion-forward and buttery sauce. The clams themselves were generally fresh, although one or two were a little sandy. The clams were served on top of a bed of focaccia bread. While it soaked up all the sauce and flavors, I'm not sure if I want all my bread to be soggy from the get go. The calamari were also solid with spicy mayo sauce, teriyaki sauce, and shiso leaves. Calamari were fried in a light batter. The mochi ramen carbonara featured the delicious and chewy ramen from Sun Noodles. It was cooked nicely and remained al dente throughout. The egg yolk flavors were very prominent for sure and the richness was temporized with the citrus flavors. The spicy miso ramen offered an interesting concept, but not sure if it really came together. Noodles again were very solid. The broth had more mushroom, umami flavors. Didn't quite get a taste of the butter or pork, but the leeks were good. Made a reservation for 8:30 but didn't actually get seated until past 9pm on a Friday night. Staff were polite. Should have utilized the BYOB but they also offer drinks. Dim lighting, faux cherry blossom trees, and walls of anime give it a nice intimate date-night vibes!

As usual i didn't plan to go there, but as soon as i got sat, the server explained the menu, she mentioned the specials and everything was fantastic!!! For appetizer we ordered the short rib special that the server mentioned and was great!!! Everything was delicious and were definitely coming back to try new items on the menu!!! The decor and ambiance is 1000/10!

Fantastic restaurant, very unique in terms of cuisine. The decor and ambiance is very trendy. I had: - Cacio e Pepe gyoza - Calamari Fritti - Sunomono Cucumber Insalata - Wafu Italian Caesar Insalata - Shrimp Bao I loved every dish. My favorite was probably the salads. I would definitely come back here.

Fun and tasty. This Japanese-Italian fusion spot offers a bunch of sharable small and large plates. I came here with hubs and we ordered way too much, but the standouts were the Sunomono Cucumber Insalata (super tasty) and the Chicken Katsu Bao with teriyaki, pesto, and citrus. The only miss for me was the Calamari Fritti. While the squid was perfectly cooked, it wasn't crispy on the outside and the sauce kind of bullied the calamari. For mains, my Pork Chop Scallopini was massive, crispy, and good with a cheesy tonkatsu-style sauce. Hubs had the Tonkatsu Porchetta Ramen and loved it so much, he completely annihilated the bowl. My portion was so big, I took 2/3 of it home. We were too full for dessert but I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu. NOTES/TIPS: **BYOB **Excellent service. Dishes come out fast. **No clear outdoor signage. It has black exterior with a black bowl and chopsticks logo.

Rigatoni with meatballs and Wagyu Short Rib Ramen, which is one of my favorites!

Amazing as always! We were greeted by Zeke, the Manager who led us to our booth. Jake, our server suggested we try the Sashimi special appetizer and it was delicious! Everything is always flavorful, which is why we keep coming back! The vibe is always upbeat, fun and hip. We had a special treat this visit by watching Chef Robbie Felice garnishing the dinners as they left the kitchen!

Overall the food was ok nothing amazing You need to like cheese because there is cheese included in almost every dish! The interior was nice and trendy

This is my 2nd time here and still blown away by the fantastic depth in bold flavors of every menu item I've tried here. This time, we got the cacio e pepe gyoza, calamari, ramen shrimp scampi, and the black cod. Cacio e pepe gyoza - Wow. I'm normally not a fan of cheese-based foods, but this one tasted amazing and so rich in flavor. I was very impressed. It was still just a bit too much cheese for my taste, but I LOVED the flavor of it. I would get it again to share and have only 1-2 pcs. This dish is so unique. Calamari - So fresh, so yummy. It's rare that the calamari is so fresh tasting that it'll melt in your mouth. This place really did that for me. Every pc I devoured was heavenly. The sauces w/ a pinch of lemon juice made it taste so fresh and light. Ramen shrimp scampi - My 2nd time getting this and it was just as yummy as the 1st time! So rich and bold in flavor and the noodles + shrimp were cooked perfectly (al dente). I love the little bits of crunch. Still one of my favorite menu items here! Black cod - Came with a scallion and edamame salad. It tasted so fresh and light and paired perfectly with the black cod. My bf LOVED the cod. It was perfectly cooked (lightly charred), melted in your mouth, and the sauce that came with it was so good. Service is always great - our server brought us matcha lemonades for it being our anniversary dinner (I put that it was our anniversary on the Resy). It was a nice additional touch to complete the meal. Definitely one of my favorite spots to visit for a sit-down meal in NJ :)

Finally got to try Pasta Ramen and managed to snag a weekday reservation for two at 6:30pm. The location is a bit tricky to find, there's no large sign, just a small one on the floor, so keep an eye out. Once inside, the vibe is dark, modern, and hip. The space is pretty intimate, mostly suited for parties of 2-4, though they do have two spots that can accommodate larger groups. We started with the calamari, wow, not your average calamari! It was unique and incredibly flavorful. The shrimp bao was another hit, super tasty and well done. For mains, we had the carbonara pasta (honestly, you can skip this one I did not like it) and the shrimp scampi pasta, which I really enjoyed. We also tried the pork ramen, but it was way too salty, even though you could tell the broth had potential, we ended up sending that one back. Overall, I'd come back. It's a cool, different spot. My only gripe is that the menu is seasonal, so you might not be able to order the same dishes again. Still, definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Nicole F.

This was such a unique experience!! The food was incredible and the table side service for the ramen and carbonara were top notch! A cute little tucked away spot worth every penny!!

Great experience dinning as always. Tried the calamari, chicken bun and shrimp scampi meals and they were all fantastic! Everything was exploding with flavor! Brought our own wine (BYOB)

Finally got a chance to visit this place. It's been on my list for a while now but never got a chance to go to Montclair. Highly recommend making reservations. It's a relatively small space. But the service is amazing. Food came out quickly. Our waitress was very attentive. And they accommodated us quickly with our BYOB wine. I have to say, I really enjoyed the cucumber salad they had. I was hesitant to order it bc I didn't want something that sounds so simple. But DANG, the complex flavors/textures in the dish was really good! Also, the calamari too! I'd think a calamari app is a calamari app. But theirs was amazing! The breading was lightly crispy. And the actual calamari was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend. And if you're up for pasta, I'd really recommend the carbonara one. I liked it more than the short rib pasta. The short ribs were very tender and flavorful. But the sauce on that one was just normal. Didn't pop like the other dishes.

Is this a byob or do they have a drink menu? Is there a parking lot?

It's a BYO like most places in Montclair. As for parking, there's no lot just for the restaurant but plenty of street parking and the Crescent Parking garage is right around the corner!

Do they have a kids menu or are kid friendly for around 7 year old age?

No kid menu and the seating tight/cozy. Not sure if I would say it's kid friendly - it's pretty dark inside

Are there any dairy free options?

Do they accept walk-ins for one?

No, you have to make a reservation

Are there any vegetarian options on the menu?

There are some options. But the menu is quite animal protein forward.

What type of wine would you recommend ? Can you give some red and white suggestions

Do they offer takeout and if so, how to order?

Hi Moury! As of right now, we do not offer take out. Thank you!

What is the best way to get a reservation?

Setting an alarm on your phone at 10AM or a few minutes before on the first of the month for the month upcoming (ie April reservations open up March 1 at 10AM), and have Resy up as soon as the reservations open up.

What is the Dress Code?

There didn't seem to be an official dress code, but it's a pretty cool vibe, not too dressy.

This place is the definition of a hidden gem--a masterclass in traditional sushi sitting quietly on a culinary wasteland of a street. The commitment to quality here is staggering. This isn't your standard neighborhood joint slinging spicy mayo rolls; the seafood here boasts absolute freshness, with rare fish flown in weekly directly from Japan. You will find cuts here that are nearly impossible to source at standard sushi restaurants, elevating the experience to something you'd typically only find at an exclusive omakase counter. Let's talk about the tuna. The vast majority of sushi spots try to pass off cheap, frozen yellowfin as a premium offering. Not here. They source incredibly high-quality Spanish Bluefin--the exact same caliber of fish utilized by Michelin-starred establishments. What truly sets them apart is their ability to offer the complete trinity of bluefin cuts: the deep, ruby-red lean akami, the perfectly marbled chu-toro, and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth o-toro. The menu reads like a love letter to the ocean. Finding high-grade yellowtail belly can be a challenge, but here, it is a staple of exceptional quality. For those with an adventurous and educated palate, the chefs regularly feature incredibly hard-to-find selections like itoyori (golden threadfin bream), mejina (opaleye), and a luxuriously rich fatty bonito. The uni deserves its own paragraph. Sea urchin can be a gamble at lesser restaurants, but here it is pristine. On any given night, you might be lucky enough to find both creamy California uni and the briny, delicate Hokkaido uni available for side-by-side comparison. Another testament to their traditional approach and culinary respect is how they utilize the week's fresh catch to craft a warm, incredibly tasty fish head soup. It is a deeply comforting, umami-rich broth that extracts every ounce of flavor from the premium seafood they bring in, showcasing a level of authenticity you rarely see anymore. While the menu does offer French-inspired dishes and various hot kitchen items, let me be clear: you are here for the sushi. The hot food isn't bad by any means, but if you truly want a culinary experience, do not waste precious stomach space on it. You are here for the raw fish. The singular exception to this rule is the pork gyoza--they are remarkably juicy and absolutely worth the order. Do not skip dessert. In many sushi restaurants, desserts are an afterthought, but here they are top-notch and entirely homemade. The Japanese flan is impossibly silky and decadent. However, the true star is the crème brûlée cheesecake--it is remarkably smooth, slicing effortlessly at the touch of a fork, with a deeply satisfying flavor profile that entirely avoids being overly sweet. I have to address the elephant in the neighborhood: this place absolutely destroys Morimoto down the street. Morimoto has become a tourist trap resting on a recognizable name, employing inexperienced chefs to cater to the sheep-like masses who prioritize a flashy dining room over authentic taste. If you actually understand and respect true sushi, you skip the theatrical nonsense down the street and come here. Let's also be brutally honest about the price point: excellence comes at a premium. This is an uncompromising, high-end culinary experience, and the bill reflects the quality of ingredients flown in from Japan. If you are a bargain hunter, looking for cheap eats, or aren't willing to pay for top-tier craftsmanship, save your time and look elsewhere. This establishment is for serious diners who understand the value of good sushi and aren't just looking for a good enough "AYCE" experience.

It's perfectly creamy inside and rests atop this delicious velvety ricotta-like sauce, excellent sauce assortment (the usuals), and I like the shredded bonito, ALL GOOD. Not a ton of octopus in there (about 1-2 pieces in each) but I wasn't mad. I was actually very very happy. Now the sad is that their main event, the ramen, was pretty underwhelming. I ordered the chicken ramen. The issue that really docks points is that the broth was just not right. It was over-reduced, or something otherwise went wrong because the texture was less creamy and more...thickened? Viscous? Unpleasant. It left this slightly gritty strange coating on the tongue. Also, it tasted like straight up bones and water. Severely under-seasoned. And the measly slices of chicken (give us 4 if they're going to be that small) did not have a touch of much-needed salt. The noodles were seasoned very well though, so I did enjoy those bites especially when I doused that baby in their delicious spicy sauce. The seasoned egg was nice and I'm glad it came with one whole egg and not a half. Also glad the bowl came with spinach because lord knows we need more fiber. As I ate the noodles, I enjoyed the bowl, but I couldn't slurp the soup. That's arguably at least half the experience, right? I want to give 4 stars because genuinely, that takoyaki is GOLD. That alone is like eight stars, off the charts. However, this is a ramen spot. The ramen is, alas, important.
