Awesome experience! My boyfriend and I stopped in on a whim and were so happy we did. We weren't insanely hungry, but we definitely wanted something small to eat. We ended up splitting the Ramen set and it was the perfect amount of food without feeling too full. In addition to a great portion size, the flavors were amazing and the salmon ikura bowl was absolutely perfect. Service was delightful, friendly and attentative. The food came out quickly and hot. The best part of all was it was priced very reasonably! I will definitely return when in the area and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to visit!
Ramen Azuma is the best ramen spot in the Hackensack area. The service is friendly and quick, and the ambience is lovely. The ramen was very tasty. I had the chicken ramen and the chicken was very soft. 10/10 experience.
Great ramen find! Glad I found this restaurant on Yelp because it didn't disappoint. We ordered the ramen combo with chicken and salmon which we loved. The broth of ramen tasted authentic. The ambience was great and they have a lot of parking space. The service was also good.
Take out for 2 ramens. I called to place order first and prob took about 10-15mins. Pretty quick. Ramen is good. Not oily. They separated soup from the noodles so it didn't get soggy by the time we ate it. Spacious inside. Lots tables and seats. Saw a group there for Christmas party. Great place for gathering.
Just wanted to have quick ramen lunch here. Surprisingly good ramen and great value for the lunch time. Tonkotsu ramen was just how it should be as Japanese standard. I could choose bunch of appetizers or small rice items in the lunch set. I choose karaage on to Tonkotsu and a small bowl of rice included. In addition, a young-man wait staff was super attentive and makes my lunch greater over more. I'll come for dinner next time.
Stopped by for some ramen while I was in the area and was very happy with what I found! Ramen Akuma has some great Japanese cuisine options, and today, I opted for getting their lunch special. For the very affordable price of $14.95, you get a miso pork belly rice bowl, tonkotsu ramen, and iced coffee. The ramen was sooo flavorful, with a very full body, umami, pork flavor and very bouncy and chewy noodles. The oil on top was a bit thick, but very on-brand for the tonkotsu. The rice with meat has a bit of a 5-spice like seasoning, that was good but kind of ambiguous in taste. The iced coffee to me felt as if there could have been a bit more condensed milk. The service here is immaculate, with a very friendly waiter who was quick to assist us with anything we needed. The parking lot is small but enough for the restaurant. The aesthetic of the restaurant is simple but classy, with movable grass dividers if you have a larger party. There is also tabletop bar seating available. Would recommend if you are looking for a Japanese restaurant in the area.
I really, really, really wanted to like Ramen Azuma because I wanted to check out their shiny, new location in Hackensack......but the food here was just OK when we visited. We swung by on a rainy, cool Saturday morning at 11:40ish, just after they opened for the day and, no shocker here as we were the very 1st customers of the afternoon. I had done a bit of research before we came in, so we were pretty much set on what we were going to order. The menu had quite a few different ramen selections - specifically they had a section for just "Ramen Specials", which were different than the regular ramen selections on the menu. Besides ramen, they served various platters that included appetizer meals, ramen combos and curry entrees. If you're planning to order an appetizer and a Tonkotsu ramen, your best bet would be to go for a ramen combo as it'll save you a few bucks. We started off our meal with 2 appetizers - Cha Shu Buns and Gyoza. First, the good - Gyoza. Solid, tasty, pretty much your typical Gyoza. Second, the bad - Cha Shu Buns. The piece of Cha Shu was very dry and there was barely any sauce and slaw in the bun. Poorly executed and was not good at all. Next, our ramens arrived. I ordered a Ramen and Chicken Teriyaki Combo (with yellow noodle) and added corn. The ramen was decent. Hard to say it was great though. It was pretty average. My wife ordered the Black Garlic Ramen. As expected, hers was a bit better because of the roasted black garlic flavor, but, once again, could be better still. As for the Chicken Teriyaki, it was also just OK. I did appreciate the fried chicken looking nature of the Chicken Teriyaki. That, I think, made it taste a bit better. We also ordered a Cha Shu Bowl for our children. I doubt most folks would order this (and I would say skip it too), but it was something for our children to try. All in all, was a rather disappointing experience. The restaurant WAS very new looking and clean and there was a large parking lot outside. Pluses there. And, the waiters were nice and the food came out very quick, but the flavors were very average. Nothing about the food really stood out and the Cha Shu could have been better. I always feel restaurants deserve a second chance and, hopefully, I'll change my mind next time.
The decor of the restaurant is very modern. There is loads of space for large groups and also seats near the kitchen for people that want to dine alone. We were seated immediately and the waitress was very attentive to us. They kept checking on us to see if our food was to our taste. For a starter we got takoyaki and karage, both were pretty good! I got the tonkotsu shoyu with a side of friend shrimp. It was good but not as flavorful as I expected. I also got the lavender lemonade and it was a mix of sour and sweet. Definitely a must for the summer!
Ramen goodness in Jersey! Went to different locations and this ramen place does not disappoint! Location: It is located along Hackensack. There is few seating inside and a bar. There is seating outside but not heated. Lot of street parking. Service: They were very attentive and nice. Food: they are famous with their ramens but I always order the combo. RAMEN and YAKINIKU: this is my favorite cause the ramen broth is so delicious and the beef yakiniku is so tender and tasty. PORK CUTLET PLATTER: the tonkatsu was tender inside and crispy outside, comes with miso soup and rice. RAMEN and CHICKEN KARAAGE: the chicken is crispy and cooked into perfection. SHRIMP TEMPURA: its like the one we buy in costco, this is my least favorite. GYOZA: its delicate and the pork and chives are tasty. LAVENDER LEMONADE: it was okay, too sweet. THAI TEA BOBA: this is better, so milky and not that sweet. Price rating: 7/10. Not bad for the goodness that you'll get. Visited this ramen place multiple times and it's always a good experience! Definitely will come back!
We have ordered takeout from here in the past and thought it was just ok but had a better experience dining in! Came in on a Sunday around 7 PM and it was pretty busy but still had some seating available. We opted for the bar seats since it was just the two of us. The aesthetic is very nice and modern. There is also a designated parking lot right out front so that is a huge plus. I recall ordering the salmon ikura bowl combo last time, and I am pretty sure they used smoked salmon instead of salmon sashimi so we avoided ordering that again this time. This time we got the special spicy sesame miso ramen with curry combo and the spicy tonkatsu ramen with the spicy miso chicken bowl. Also got an appetizer of the takoyaki. I have no complaints about our meal as we enjoyed it! I would come back and get the same thing again.
One of my favorite Ramen spots. I have tried most of the Ramen offerings as well as the newly added sushi. Fresh ingredients, large portions. Service is usually quick.
Their fresh exterior and signage and the name caught my eye. Ramen for sure and Azuma-(some might remember a store by that name in New York City back in the 20th century; Mom and I would go there often.) Back to the Ramen- I was really hungry after over 7000 steps from that morning's volunteer work, and it was near noon. I went in to look at the menu and stayed- vegan options! I had the vegan sesame miso, ramen bowl which, in fact, is hard to find vegan, and went with the thin white noodle vs the thicker yellow noodle. The photos show I ate the whole thing! On ambiance, check out photo showing how beautiful it is inside. I must also say the playlist was the bomb! Eclectic for sure with Buffalo Springfield and Joy Division among the songs I liked. By the time I finished my ramen, most of the other tables were full. Service was quick and friendly. I showed the menu to the Beloveds. They noted there's three of this restaurant in Bergen County area. We are all definitely going back so they can also enjoy. The tables were nice and big -good to fill up with loved ones. And maybe next time I'll get the vegan brownie for dessert.
Large interior with ample parking space! Their menu is extensive - with ramen, curry, appetizers, and cold noodles! I don't enjoy ramen so much, so I opted for the Karage Platter - which offers rice, soup, salad (dressed lightly with some sweet dressing), and hot and crunchy well cooked chicken with spicy Mayo.

Can't go wrong with ramen & curry. Love how they have both for people who just cant decide between the two. The ramen broth was so flavorful but the ramen was just ok. Nothing really stood out to me as far as flavor or noodle texture. The curry was almost all just sauce over rice so I would pass on this dish next time. Loved the fried chicken though. Crunchy non the outside and super juicy on the inside. The dipping sauce had a slight kick to it but was manageable. The gyoza was average as well. Overall, a pleasant experience. The inside is spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and service was fast. read more
Ramen was once nothing more than Japanese street food. The scene in the Garden State has come a long way, where one doesn't have to go across the Hudson for fantastic ramen. What started as a handful of niche noodle shops is now a full-on culinary movement. All across Jersey, ramen chefs are crafting rich broths, house-made noodles, and inventive toppings that delight the senses. Located on State Street in Hackensack, I frequent this establishment numerous times during the year. Ramen Azuma pours out their soul in preparing perfectly the classic Japanese cuisine. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the staff and got an empty table by the window inside their cozy and inviting vibe. Their menu features a wide selection of ramen, curry, and appetizers. I decided on their newest edition--Wonton Ramen and 3 pieces of Fried Chicken. The savory ramen soup was filled with shrimp wontons. Even though they were very thin wonton wrappers with a smaller amount of filling, they tasted consistent with other shrimp wontons from past restaurants, accompanied by Menma Bamboo, Scallions, and Egg. The Fried Chicken was well seasoned. The food overall remained authentic and incredibly flavorful and on point. The portion was very generous. Friendly service, and the price was reasonable. Make sure one comes on an empty stomach. read more

I went to this place for lunch, and they weren't busy at all! Pros: - Very quiet and lots of seating. It is clean as well - Cute ambiance - Food is mildly flavored so it works for many palettes - Lots of variety on the menu - Tons of parking Cons: - They gave me the wrong food. I ordered shrimp curry but they gave me beef sauce. When I told them, I expected them to fix it. They then said they don't have shrimp curry so they couldn't fix it and wouldn't refund me. I didn't appreciate how difficult they were being for their own mistake. - It's expensive. - Very small portions - especially given the price point. The food tastes good, especially their fried food, but as you can see there's only 2 pieces of shrimp in the curry and two very small buns for an order close to $40. Overall, it has a cute ambiance. But I wouldn't come back. read more
Currently this place is undergoing construction, they are actively serving. The waiters try their best, my colleagues and I have been here twice to give the benefit of the doubt, we were served raw bao buns , raw chicken and frothy ramen. Two of us got violently sick after taking and spitting out the few morsels of food. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Their coffee was not bad. read more

It's a cute and modern spot and it was pretty busy with people dining in, but it's Friday night after work and I just felt like grabbing some takeout to have at home with a nice glass of wine. The server (young lady) who took my order was very helpful with the menu and I took her recommendation on the ramen. I ended up ordering ramen - I think it was black garlic with chicken -and also rice with curry sauce and fried chicken. The food was very good but I must say- my ramen was absolutely delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed it and the soft boiled eggs (Ajitama) were chef's-kiss! So glad I ordered extra! I needed something comforting and this hit the spot! 5 out of 5 and I'm so glad to have this spot close-by. Will return! read more

I was randomly in this neighborhood and was craving ramen. I got the miso ramen and while it is only $12 I did expect a bit more. There's no egg in this ramen but my friends got the egg and it's not even marinated. The pork slices are not char siu and are pretty bland. They should really call their noodles yellow or white and not thin or thin because they are almost the same thickness. Otherwise, it is a nice spacious ramen spot with lots of parking and quick service. I definitely think that if I got their more expensive ramen I would be more upset as it's not amazing. I probably won't be back. read more
Being a regular at Ramen Azuma in Englewood, we were very excited to try this new location in Hackensack. It's a very pretty app newly built restaurant, modern wooden look inside, lots of parking spots. The menu is almost same as the other location. We ordered bunch of ramen, curry, takoyaki, karage and few drinks. The food is prepared really fast. Our appetizers were really good. The ramen are large bowl, lots of noodles. Curry is thick and tasty. The fried chicken is the best. Its juicy and tender, great company with ramen and curry, both. We were disappointed with the boba drinks. It was just watery coffee and boba put together. We had lots of issues with our orders too. Some of staff didn't know which ramen is which.l, and kept missing my extra chicken order with the curry. Things were much better once one of more experienced staff started attending our table. Hopefully rest of them will get better with some experience under their belt. read more

Friendly and quick service. The place is spacious, has parking available and some large booths good for a group. I wasn't blown away by the ramen but also I picked the most basic chicken one. I did enjoy the apps and would come again. read more
Stepped in for lunch with a few coworkers as a group of 8. We were seated immediately in a large booth. The staff is friendly and attentive. They gave us water and handed out menus. Someone ordered the cucumber appetizer which was good. It has a refreshing taste. I ordered the Ramen and gyoza. I loved the gyoza. It came with five pieces and three dipping sauces. The ramen was good. I didn't put any add ins. The portion size is filling and they have to-go bowls in the event you do not finish. The to-go bowls allow you to separate the noodles from the broth to avoid the noodles from soaking up all of the broth. This is a great idea. Kudos to management. The restaurant is located in a small parking lot area that is easy to miss. The building is set back from the side walk with parking in front. If you are in the area, give this place a try. read more

Found this place by accident when I was Yelping a place to eat! Wasn't really sure what to expect since it's a new place and the location in Hackensack isn't where you'd find the typical restaurants. No one was here on a Sunday night and really, it's a shame! This place was open and inviting with a decent menu of choices from ramen, to rice dishes, to random appetizers! Cold nights call for a good bowl of ramen and that brought me to ordering the black garlic ramen. My husband ordered gyoza to start and a meal set that had ramen and curry rice. First of, the ramen was on point. The ramen itself was firmer than some other places but not in a bad, uncooked way. I actually prefer my ramen to be a little firmer to give me that chewier consistency so it doesn't just mash up in my mouth. The curry rice was SO good. Curry wasn't too pastey and there was a nice hint of curry spice to it which I loved. My husband also ordered the a Mano bubble tea which was a perfect size, right amount of tapioca, and it wasn't overly sweet with added sugar!! It was nice having the restaurant to ourselves. I hope this place eventually picks up! Again, location isn't the best but I guess you can call this a hidden gem in Hackensack! read more
I had gone a few days ago, and ordered two items: the okonomiyaki dumplings, and the Black Garlic Ramen with a side of hot oil. First, the dumplings: Topped with kewpie mayo, that dark takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes --- it was delicious; however, I did ask the server to bring it out before the Ramen, and she agreed. However, it came out afterwards. The Black Garlic Ramen was delicious. I had requested for the hot oil to be on the side, but I had seen that they placed it in my Ramen already. The Ramen was delicious, but that black garlic oil definitely had a very strong black pepper taste instead of a garlic taste. Also my soft boiled egg, for whatever reason was hard boiled...not a good thing. I had gone around 2:30 PM, so there wasn't much of a crowd. I was hoping since there was no rush. My food preparation would have been a little bit more precise... but overall I would go back again. Maybe next time they'll properly soft boil my egg. 4/5 read more

Delicious ramen, check... plenty of seating, check... a private parking lot, check... what more could you ask for? I know, great takeout packaging... check! Ramen Azuma satisfies my ramen craving every time. And with 12 different ramens to choose from, it should satisfy yours as well! You can add extra of your favorite toppings or add your favorite app to make a ramen combo. They even offer non-ramen platters like chicken teriyaki and gyoza. Seating is also versatile. They offer bar seating if you are flying solo and booth seating that can fit 2-8 people. And takeout is a breeze with their fun ramen takeout containers that keeps all ingredients separate from the broth until you reach your final destination. Slurp, slurp, enjoy! read more

I love all the Ramen Azuma locations but this one's gotta be my favorite iteration. From the vibes to the service, I couldn't have asked for a better overall experience. Right from the get-go it was a win because they've got a decent sized parking lot, which is a huge upgrade! Love the modern look and the warm lighting... and check out their custom neon sign! Everything was top notch from beginning to end and I was able to enjoy the ramen / salmon ikura bowl set, which is just as good as I remember from the other locations. Everyone was really friendly and I honestly had a smile on my face the entire time. It's gonna be tough deciding which one I'm going to visit going forward but if this one's closer to you, you've gotta go! read more

Ramen Azuma is a cute ramen spot with a variety of classic Japanese dishes. I was impressed by the menu but not so much by the food itself. The Anaconda roll (artificial crab topped with eel) was salty and my mom even found a fish bone in one of the sushi pieces.. I got the black garlic ramen with the salmon + salmon roe. The ramen was flavorful but I found it to be a bit oily for my liking. It was chilly inside the restaurant and as I would eat my salmon side, the oil from my ramen would solidify on to my soup spoon. Kinda weird but also maybe the flavoring is to blame. The salmon came out raw which normally is not a problem for me but it pretty much tasted metallic which wasn't enjoyable. At one point I was basically forcing myself to eat it. Not good. Unfortunately I was disappointed during this visit because I saw all of the good reviews and had high expectations. I would come here again to try the other food items like the curry and the chicken karaage but the fish at this place is a no for me. read more

I was a frequent customer of this restaurant when they had a ramen noodle restaurant in Fort Lee. I even posted good reviews about the restaurant on Yelp before. Since I found out that they opened a new restaurant in Hackensack, I stopped by a new location. The restaurant was very clean and their staff members were so friendly. I liked the fact that we could sit at a very big table even though it was a group of 2. I ordered ebi katsu buns as appetizer and ramen & curry set as my dinner. Also I ordered matcha bubble iced tea. Food was good especially their ramen noodles. The broth was so tasty and very flavorful not always easy to find. Texture on noodles were perfectly cooked al-dente. Highly recommend this restaurant. I will go back again for sure. read more
