Just wow! This place deserves to be packed in my opinion. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty quiet aside from just a few other customers although they seem to do steady takeout . Doesn't look like much from the outside/ Still I'm very glad that we decided to give it a shot. We were patient because there doesn't seem to be much staff and it was a Saturday so no rush for us. There was one older woman taking and serving both to go and dine in orders. We ordered the chicken Katsu bento box, the salmon bento box, and also Korean fried chicken wings. Everything was delicious. Even the miso soup was tasty and there was just so much food. We sat and had a very nice, delicious lunch. Even grabbed a bottle of wine because they're BYOB and there is a liquor store a few shops down. We spoke to the woman who I think is an owner and she said she has customers come in from NYC and I totally believe her because it's that good and very reasonable. We will absolutely return. The restaurant is clean and well lit with natural light, and there are heaters under the tables to help keep you warm during these colder days. We ordered the Chicken Katsu Sandwich and a Spicy Pork Bento Box. The chicken katsu in the sandwich was delicious, with the perfect crisp and flavorful seasoning. However, the toasted bread made the overall texture a bit too hard and crunchy to enjoy fully. The Spicy Pork Bento Box was a perfect portion for a filling lunch. It included a good amount of meat with great flavor and was not overwhelmingly spicy. The salad was fresh, and the kimchi was absolutely delicious. Recently tried the chicken katsu sandwich and while I'm used to pork sandos, having it in chicken was a nice surprise. It was tender, juicy, and a great price to boot. Pretty filling all on its own and doesn't come with anything else but we did get to try the housemade chicken dumplings on the side and they were great too. I really wanted to like this place but the food was very disappointing, including the Kimbap, which is their specialty? The Kimbaps lacked flavor overall. The only negatives would be that the food takes quite a while to come out, but that's because she does all 3 jobs (cook, waiter, host/cashier). I was looking for a quick meal before heading to Newark and Mama Hen's caught my eye. Their food was delicious-- very flavorful and exactly like what I had when living in Korea. I sampled their pajeon (seafood pancake) that was perfectly crispy and accompanied by the perfect sweet-savory-spicy sauce, as well as their spicy pork and bulgogi bento boxes. My family stumbled upon Mama Hen House this past weekend and had such a lovely experience. You can tell that the restaurant is wonderfully new because the interior feels fresh, clean, and really well kept. The menu had so many good options to choose from and I really appreciated that the prices were reasonable. I got a spicy pork bento box that was delicious and came with many fresh and tasty sides. Our waitress (who I believe owns the restaurant?) was so warm as well. One thing I definitely want to emphasize is that this restaurant was extremely kid friendly! The restaurant had a Stokke type high chair for my youngest that was super clean and comfortable for him. There were so many options for my kids on the menu between kimbaps and even dino nuggets. Lastly, when bringing out all our food, the waitress brought out the cutest utensil sets for our kids to eat with. Overall, we had such a wonderful experience and felt that the Mama Hen House team has been so thoughtful in caring for their diners. Will definitely be back soon! read more

I've been here twice already. Great spot. It's sit-down service kind of. Byob too by the way. It's a family run place with the daughter at the register and the parents cooking with love in the back. They're all very friendly The interior has potential but could be improved with some paint and more matching tables and chairs. It's a more casual vibe. The kimbaps and wings are the stars of the place. The Korean wings are small but mighty in flavor Love the honey glaze wings they were excellent. I normally get spicy but my girlfriend can't take spice so I compromised but trust me they were excellent. We had three different kinds of kimbap. The bulgogi, the shrimp tempura and spicy pork. All were good but the spicy pork was my favorite. They also give free Cole slaw with every yelp check in. Cole slaw is fantastic too. Everything we had was amazing I think the kimbaps are the best value. But to tell the truth everything was worth the price You must come here you won't regret it. Love this small family owned spot! Since they've opened, we've been here for a few times for takeout. Consistently amazing! And it's always a pleasure interacting with the family. They seem to have been in the food business for a long time and only recently decided to relocate to Teaneck. My partner and I always crave kimbap and they have SO many options here (and have been open to customizing whenever we have strange Frankenstein/add-on requests). We honestly don't even bother trekking to Pal Park anymore for kimbap since we found them. The fish katsu sandwich here is also a great option. Not greasy at all and the homemade tartar sauce is like nothing else. Definitely want to try their ddukboki in the future! maybe i got the wrong things but i thought it was just ok. the banchan was a let down got a salad, kimchi and seaweed. seaweed was oddly green and tasted like chemicals. the kimchi was good. was hoping for more traditional banchan. the fish bento special was $20 and mushroom roll was $8z. the cod was very good but a small portion. the mushroom in the roll was not seasoned enough usually people use sesame oil and sesame seeds. might give them another try in the future. read more

You need to come to this place. The food is delicious. Being the only Asian place in this area, it's a great place to try out. The chicken wings are meaty and flavorful and are great with the coleslaw! The kimbaps are fantastic! Beautifully made and easy food to eat. I rarely write reviews, but my (10 year-old!) daughter and I were so happy with our lunch, I want to help keep this place thriving so we can go back again and again. We had: Vegan mushroom kimbap Shrimp tempura kimbap Dduckkboki Beef bulgogi bento Yuzu cider Yuzu ginger hot tea We felt like they paid attention to all the details in each dish, which is what set this food apart from others that might have similar offerings. The shrimp tempura in the kimbap was delightfully crunchy, even a couple hours later when we snacked on our leftovers at home. The vegetables in the salad that came with the bento were crisp and fresh. The sauces on the various dishes were well-balanced, not overly sweet (when sugar was involved) or excessive/gloppy like some places can serve. It did remind me of homemade Korean food, but in the best way - like they prepared it the way they'd want to eat it or proudly serve to their own guests at the dinner table, not hastily thrown together just to shove it out of the kitchen to strangers. My friend and I made a reservation not more than 15 minutes before arriving. I was pleasantly surprised to see our table reserved with a placard as we were were greeted by a most incredible hostess. After the hostess sat us and took our drink orders she gave us plenty of time to flip through their truly unique menu. The pages of the menu are bound in an amazing flexible wood cover that adds to the overall atmosphere. When we were ready to order the hostess also made sure to help us with understanding the cultural dishes we wanted to know more about before ordering. The smells wafting from the kitchen made my mouth water through the whole ordering process. After placing our order for a 20 piece Korean BBQ wing platter split into two flavors we chatted it up for a bit enjoying the ambiance and bright video of available cuisine being prepared in kitchens across the world. The food was cooked in a timely fashion and brought out and served most excellently. Our hostess and server made sure to check on us only when needed and didn't bother us at all. The wait staff was Jenny who was absolutely fantastic, she helped us pick great items for dinner and explained the what and how of what they had on the menu. The chicken wings were superb!
