Maggie's Southern Kitchen 1368 Teaneck Road Teaneck, NJ 07666 Cornbread Smothered Pork Chops Barbecued Ribs Meatloaf Baked Turkey Wing Peach Cobbler On the corner of Teaneck Road and Englewood Avenue lies a small, but lively local southern take out spot that offers a fair amount of grub for reasonable prices. The cornbread is a decent size and is the perfect starter to any southern comfort meal. It's a win-win for which ever Main entree you choose. The meats are tender and well seasoned. The meat falls right off the bone! You can't go wrong with any of the two sides that are included with your meal. The collard greens definitely wins the competition, but everything else still comes in a close second. The dessert was loaded with peaches with just the right amount of cinnamon. If you are unable to catch a flight down south, but still desire home cooked soul food, this is the place to go! #soulfood #southerncooking #collardgreens read more

Food quality has gone downhill since it first opened and it's a bit pricey and there's no parking

Maggie's has been part of my life for over 20 years -- and there's a reason it's stood the test of time. This is soul food with soul. Family-owned, full of heart, and consistently delicious. From the fried chicken, ribs and turkey wings to the mac and cheese to the cornbread that never misses -- Maggie's knows how to serve comfort on a plate. And it's not just the food. It's the vibe, the warmth, and the way they make you feel like you're at home (or at your auntie's house on a Sunday). If you're in Northern NJ and haven't been to Maggie's yet -- you're missing a local gem. You can dine in but I take it to-go. just know you're supporting real people who've poured love into this business for decades. Highly recommend. Always have, always will. read more

A very good option for Southern food. If you order friend chicken, they make it fresh and yell out if anyone else wants some! Gotta love fried chicken made to order, and accompanied by delicious sides. We got the potato salad and the collard greens and both were good. It's a friendly, clean atmosphere with great staff. And the friend chicken is worth having to find parking. I recommend. read more

Inconsistent quality in food preparation. It has everything you would want in a soul food spot though.

Terrible service. Lady taking orders didn't want to be bothered; very annoyed. Very little options from menu available. Give it up!

I have written more than one review because I want to encourage people to enjoy their meals. Most servers are excellent... except for one young woman... read more

Amazing simple as that! I was driving through and I stopped at the Exxon gas station down the street and asked the attendant a great place to go for soul food, and he said that is the only place! The street is busy and it's on the corner easy to see! When you go in it's quaint and reminds you of a southern classic soul food restaurant The staff is very nice and guided me through the menu and from the photos you see it's on the next level of great! Amazing job team! Love it AA 5 stars! And paired well with Amour Geneve! Thank you Coviello Salinès Amour Geneve read more

Soggy baked chicken, absolutely flavorless. Service was ok. In my opinion if you don't want to serve good food to the public, why be in the restaurant business ? read more

Not what it used to be. Don't listen and get orders wrong. You need to watch what they put in takeout orders. Shouldn't have to do that. Lacking flavor, mushy rice. Not too many games in town, as they say. So sorry that I'll probably stop going to Maggie's. read more

I had the fried fish. It's good. Large portion,... you know it, BUT, a bit tasteless, and much too oily. I might have had the tail end of when they were going to change oil,.. idk. Also, service took a bit of time. I wouldn't come here if I have a 30 minute lunch time. read more

In short, the food is good but the service is terrible. I went in one day and ordered Fried Fish. I presume that it would take the worker a long time because when I asked for it, she rolled her eyes and sucked her teeth right in front of me. After that, I decided it wasn't worth going to MJs anymore even though the food was ok. I'd prefer to go to another place a little further where they treat you somewhat decently since you are paying for their food. read more

I ordered delivery and got the fried fish with mac, greens, and yams. Let me tell you, everything was seasoned perfectly! I am a long time Teaneck native that's since moved to a neighboring town. But best believe I will keep Maggie's as my go to soul food fix! read more

Maggie's Southern Kitchen - a bowl of food - Southern Near Me - Teaneck, New Jersey

I wish I could give it no stars service was terrible, I threw up in the bathroom literally three bites into my chicken.

Stopped to Maggie's on Sunday afternoon. Located on the corner of Teaneck Rd, it's easy to find and there is street parking. Atmosphere: there is gospel music playing and a few tables and a counter area to eat. Now to the service and the food. Attitude!!! Definitely not friendly and we even added a tip at checkout. We ordered 2 meals and dined in. Meatloaf dinner with macaroni and cheese and collard greens, and a fried fish dinner with same sides. The meatloaf was a hunk of meat mixture with a runny liquid on top that tasted like ketchup. The collard greens were just ok, no seasoning and the macaroni was bland but salty, minimal cheese and was pale in color. The fried fish was cooked to order, the portion was decent and tasted good. Dinners come with cornbread. There are canned sodas and water available. Restroom wasn't clean, there was soap but no paper towels. read more

The customer service sucks and the quality of the food has went down hill. At least when the food was good I could tolerate the nasty attitude. Save your money‍ read more

I live in New York, I have visited this establishment multiple times due to food always being great. Today I ordered online via toast tab and spent about 120 dollars on food. I drove the 45 mins home and noticed two of the orders are wrong. I called and had to leave a voicemail because no one picked up the phone this was approximately 3 o'clock. I call again at 647 a woman answer who was totally rude. I explained to her that I ordered online and that the staff at her store made my order wrong. She proceeds to tell me you have to call door dash or grub hub. And I hear laughing in the background. So I again explained to her what happen again . She tell me I have to come there. I tell her I'll come tomorrow. She takes my name and number and tells me she will call me. I ask for her name she says it's Velvet. Just know I will not support any small business that do not have professional staff. I will NEVER order from them again. Definitely will go to TJs or lighthouse. Hire help read more

The service was good. The young lady behind the counter was nice offering conversation and suggestions. We order lunch specials, turkey wings and smothered pork chops w/ two sides each. My husband enjoyed the turkey legs, yams and collards greens. The Mac could've been a bit more moist but good flavor. The pork chops was good and the gravy went well with the rice a cabbage. read more

Okay I'm no expert on southern cooking but I just love comfort food and this place delivered. My colleague recommended it as he has been coming for years. We were able to find some tables to sit at. Yes, the decor is nothing to go on about - it looks almost like a Chinese take out joint. However, the staff was super friendly as I decided on my order. Also, the prices are really decent!! I got the fried chicken (which was juicy and had crispy skin still on it -- and it was hot), mac & cheese (pretty good), and collard greens (AMAZING). My colleague had the BBQ ribs (really good), collard greens (again, AMAZING), and yams (OUT OF THIS WORLD). My lunch special was about $7. He got the dinner portion for about $10. Also, they have amazing specials like pigs feet and ox tail, which I have to come back and try. OH and every meal comes with corn bread, which was delicious. I was so full after my lunch portion. I had one bite of my cornbread and packed it into my purse for a late afternoon snack! read more

If you have a taste, for some great home cooking, make your way to Maggie's! A small family run joint, where the food is made with soul and love! The meatloaf, yams and greens, are crave worthy and the cabbage, mac n cheese and ribs will make you wish you bought more! I have eaten Soul Food, from way South to NYC, in homes and restaurants and Maggie's rates up there with some of the most delicious, I've had. As they say down South, "they put their feet in that food"!!! read more

Ok so I just RANDOMLY dropped in and got a combo. I got their fried fish with two sides (Mac n cheese, collard greens) and also got a small side of potato salad to go with the cornbread. WOW! I honestly wasn't expecting this big of a portion - had about 3-4 solid size pieces of fish to go with the rest of the food. Definitely recommend read more

Horrible service! Those 2 young girls in the front are beyond rude, unprofessional along with bad attitudes. They act like they were dragged off the streets to work. And the place needs cleaning. I told the older woman who brought out my order how bad those girls are and that it was as my first time there and was upset by their behavior. At least she apologized. But her attitude wasn't any sunnier. Not welcoming & appreciative. I will never return. read more

The food was very good I had the fried chicken and my girlfriend had the catfish. The dinner portion was small compared to other places.

I came here after a friend recommended getting food from here, so I decided to give it a try. I had got the vegetarian platter which includes 3 sides of your choice and cornbread. I originally asked for Mac & Cheese, Yams and Cabbage but they told me they don't have Cabbage. So I decided with getting Collard Greens. The food was pretty good, the only thing I knock points off for, is the macaroni and cheese as it seemed like more elbow noodles and less cheese. Overall the food tasted good, I would definitely come back. One thing that's a con, is that they only take cash. read more

Okay.... I've been visiting Maggie's for several long long years and they have the best comfort food in the area. Recently, they relocated to Teaneck Road and there business appears to be Booming more now than ever. So let me entice you ....they are serving your grandmas Mac and cheese, cabbage from the garden, corn bread homemade...not Jiffy, collard greens, baked candy yams, baked chicken, falling off the bone ribs, flounder fish and top it off with there peach cobbler that will make you drool at the mouth....delicious! Meals are affordable, servings are pretty big enough for two people, and there are tables available so you can sit and enjoy your meal. Most people take out there food but I prefer to sit and enjoy my meal while it's hot. Hey, go check it out....I always return.... read more

Great customer service , bland food. The staff here is great, the food is not. Well, for me that is. I can't judge everyone's experience, and maybe the day I went , the chef was having a bad day. But it was my first and last time ever going. Again, I can't say it's their norm, all I can say is that it wasn't worth the trip for me. read more

First and foremost their address is different from what is posted in Yelp . Yelp says 172 State St but it is actually 1368 Teaneck Road. I guess they moved and didn't update anything. They updated their menu from before, since it cannot be found anywhere online I will have a picture with it. I ordered a chicken lunch meal and a fried chicken sandwich. First thing that I noticed (obviously ) was the appearance. The chicken sandwich was literally a fried chicken thigh with two slices of rye bread. I was shocked and couldn't help but laugh . I have heard of places that does this. But this was not specified over their menus or anything so it was a bit of a shock . The chicken itself ? Wasn't bad but wasn't great. It was juicy and had flavor but besides that it wasn't anything that gave it a unique taste over any other chicken around the area. The fact that it was chicken with trap pieces of bread didn't give it a distinction of flavor that would make you order it again, it's more of a I need something to eat on the way. The chicken lunch meal was pretty much the same but it came with rice and beans , it was still pretty good but like I said nothing special to keep coming back for. The food is good but no great , considering I only ordered two things from their menu it's not a bad place but it's not a place I can highly recommend consistently. read more

The other good reviews tricked me because I thought the food was going to be good. It is just ok. Taste was just ok, not that good. Two of the orders were a rib sandwich and a fish sandwich. The "sandwich" just came with the meat and two slices of bread, separately. I was shocked, to say the least. The fish sandwich didn't even come with bread! It was just 3 pieces of fish! Appalling. The service here is horrendous. I ordered online not long after they opened, and the estimated time of delivery was 11:45. However, the order did not arrive until 12:45, an additional hour later! Not only did the food arrive really late, two of the orders were missing! One of the dinner specials was missing, and another one they said was a seasonal item. But if it's a seasonal item, they need to take it off the menu! It sounded like they were making an excuse or trying to blame me for ordering the item, but how was I to know it was a seasonal item?!? I asked for a refund for the two missing items and the young girl who picked up the phone said they cannot refund it because I need to request the refund from the website. She was rude and had an attitude. I checked the website and there was nowhere to request a refund! It just said to call the restaurant for any issues with the order. This was on toasttab. So, I called the restaurant a second time and nobody picked up! I called a third time after a few minutes, and someone answered but the line went silent. At this point I'm really frustrated as anyone can understand. But I try calling a fourth time and finally someone answered. This time it was a different person, she sounded older. I patiently explain my situation again and thankfully she agreed to refund me the two missing orders. Needless to say, I am not ordering from here again. read more

I love it when u don't feel like cooking that's what's happening an i can cook Damn Good.

I've tried here once - ab 3 yrs ago. How do you mess up Mac m cheese for a southern place? Ugh. The fried chicken was good (hence the 2 vs 1 star) but too much $! I forgot to warn my sister who visited me in 2017 and she went on her own and not only didn't like it either, she swoll up from the salt content and felt sick after! She's in her 20s and fit! So it amazes me that ppl risk getting parking tickets on a daily basis and there are lines!! To each their own. read more

No parking available, should of been a sign to leave, parked a block away to try this place out. The food was nothing to brag about, staff was rude, I walked in, said hi, place was empty, 2 people behind the counter, no one responded. I approach the counter, still no eye contact until I said hi again, I felt like I was bothering them, worst $20 spent, peach pie was ok. read more
