    Jerk chicken

Respect to mama for making some banging jerk chicken. I haven't had the stew or cabbage but I hear good things. The plantains and the rice are good as well. This is real authentic Jamaican food. They have a juice bar, smoothies and soda. You get a huge portion for a good price. Friendly service and following social distance guidelines. Dining area is closed, pickup/takeout only.

The jerk chicken, beef patties, and sweet plantains at Mamma's Kitchen is authentic and the best I have had in a longtime. I recommend it 100%. My wife and I visit every weekend and we buy for the whole family. They love it and tear it up in minutes. Again, I recommend Mamma's Kitchen 100%.

This spot was JUMPIN! The line was out the door, they had a DJ blastin music and the food was ROCKING! Homemade real deal West Indian food, I could definitely see why there was a wait and it was totally worth it!

    Rubbery tough oxtails

I came to Mamma's Kitchen starving & hoping for a delicious oxtail meal. I was wrong !!! 1) The OXTAILS were like rubber and tough !!! I could get barely any meat off the oxtails without breaking my teeth (picture listed for proof) 2) The cabbage/vegetables were flavorless and undercooked! 3) The rice & peas were the only decent thing on my place & they weren't even all that either 4) Try greeting people who coming into your business / restaurant instead of staring at them. 5) I could see the glass over the food area to prevent germs .. but the rest is unnecessary; I shouldn't have to scream to place my order. 6) NOPE! I won't return & no I don't want to try any other dishes.

The food is very good. Very surprised by the Mac and cheese. The lady at register was rude but other than that I would visit again.

If you get her as your server, it's a start to a pleasant and great meal. Angelina knows what she's talking about! One feedback would be to learn how to better time the serving of the foods. We got our soup and shrimp cocktail as starters but literally 3 minutes later, our entrees were served to the table. Our entrees got cold while we tried to finish our starters. Please look to have the servers better time the serving of entrees AFTER the starters are finished. I had the New England Clam Chowder and the Prime rib. The clam chowder was tasty but lacked clams. They added andouille sausage to the chowder to give it a nice tasty twist but this should not have taken away from the amount of clams expected in a clam chowder. Prime rib was a good thick cut. But served warm and almost at room temperature. Not exactly how I would like my prime rib. Shoe string fries were tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Clam Chowder and Shrimp Cocktail as starters, followed by Cajun Sea Pasta and a bunch of side dishes - southern Coke slaw, black beans and rice and the loaded baked potato. Shrimps in the shrimp cocktail was good sized shrimp topped with old bay seasoning. The pasta was seasoned just right, very tasty and delicious. Cole slaw was crunchy which meant the Cole slaw was freshly made and not sitting in the sauce for too long. Loaded baked potato was of good size and baked to the right softness. Black beans and rice was the only side dish that was a bit too salty but went great when mixed with the baked potato. Overall, we were impressed with Angelina's services, friendliness of the staff and quality of the foods.

The home made…read moresalad dressings are phenomenal. the "Nonnas lasagna" was extremely burnt, so hard we could not cut it, it also lacked authentic flavor. The chicken tacos with rice and beans on the side were phenomenal! The Cesar salad was good but we did get served some browned romaine which i noticed half way through and couldn't finish eating it. I had the salmon and it has a fishy taste, it was also very small looked like 4-5oz. Although I asked for it well done, I did not expect it to be BURNT it was literally black like charred on the whole bottom and top. The wild rice/orzo chilled salad really lacked flavor and was quite the conundrum, I think this side should be improved or changed out completely. The roasted chicken with mashed potato's was excellent. Our server was very absent minded, although she circled and passed by she NEVER once stopped and checked in after serving the food to ask "how is everything?" so we didn't even get a chance to tell her about the burnt lasagna but fortunately the food runner and a different server did pass by us and checked on us ecause they saw us with our necks out looking for our server who had actually passed by us but didn't even look at us...I found it strange that for such a fine establishment the server had not been drained to check on the table 2-5 minutes after each course is served. We had a 3 course meal. A salad to start, followed by the chicken tacos and Nonna lasagna as a second appetizer, then our main dishes. Not once did she check on us after the food was served. I will return in a few months to see if there has been any improvement. The manager did take the lasagna off the bill after the busser brought the plate back. However the waitress never came or made any comments about it. She truly lacked hospitality, personality, and attention To details. I don't remember her name i don't think she Even provided it... the dessert menu also could be better being that there are other restaurants in the area with better dessert options. I think this place needs something good that makes it unique... maybe a story to tell by the server for first times guest or any suggestions etc.

The restaurant has an interesting history. Even though the original opened in Cresskill, NJ, it unfortunately has permanently closed. However, not only is the Edgewater location amazing, but it had the guts to open during COVID (2022), survived, and is succeeding. The restaurant is beautiful inside and outside. Their decorations are tasteful, the presentation of the food is award winning, and the service is stellar. I started with a Mocha Cappuccino and it was so good. Served in a large mug, an airy/creamy top, and had the perfect amount of mocha happiness throughout. Before the meal even started, we were graciously given Za'atar (a popular Middle Eastern spice blend with an earthy, tangy, and nutty flavor, toasted sesame seeds, and sumac, with salt). It was crunchy, drizzled with oil, and I enjoyed how each thin pita bite made the spices explode all over the table. The entrees were: Strawberry French Toast. The next was the Falafel Platter (chickpeas and fava bean balls, served with tahini sauce, pickles, turnips, tomato, and mint). The last selection was the Avocado Toast (Citrus cured salmon over multigrain bread, tomatoes, onions, capers & citrus vinaigrette). Not only were all of these dishes beautifully presented, but all were filling, as well. My Avocado Toast kept me full for the rest of the day and the salmon was enjoyably salty, thin, and delicious. I noticed a dessert in their display case and ordered it. The dessert was the Riz Bil Ashta (Lebanese rice cream, infused with orange blossom water, blended with milk and cheese, and topped with crushed pistachios). This dessert tasted like a regal custard and the pistachios added an enjoyable texture that makes it recommended. Of course, I had to cap the meal with a Mocchiato. This amazing beverage followed the rest of the meal..... delicious, eyes closed good, and every sip was full-flavored. Thank you, Madison Café and Grill, for presenting a memorable meal and I wish you continued success.

We had high expectations for your restaurant, given its reputation, and the many times we frequent your establishment. However, unfortunately, several issues arose that significantly impacted our evening. We arrived for our reservation and began at the bar with a drink before moving to our table. (2-glasses of bar wine) We sat at the table and then ordered a second glass of wine, which took approximately 15 minutes to arrive--despite the restaurant appearing relatively quiet after 7 PM with only a four-tables occupied. When we inquired at the bar, we were told there were no glasses available, which should have been addressed proactively. Additionally, when reviewing the menu, we did not see a ribeye listed on the menu. We asked the server if there was one available. Our server explained that a ribeye was available for $85. We proceeded to order it (along with a salad, as no other green vegetable options like spinach was available). However, the server later clarified that the $85 price referred to a different steak, and the ribeye we received was priced at $199. This was at the time we received the final bill. This misunderstanding was not clearly communicated upfront, leading to confusion and total disappointment! To make matters worse, when the steak arrived, it appeared totally undercooked (essentially raw in the center), and by the time we addressed it and attempted to proceed, our accompanying mashed potatoes had gone cold. The meat never tastes correct when recooked after bring sliced!!!!!Overall, we felt the service and communication was unacceptable, leaving us confused and terribly dissatisfied. As the owner and chef, is well respected I wrote to him only to find no reply at all. No manager was available on-site to assist us at the time. It is clear the restaurant is failing as there were three tables on Saturday night at 7:00 pm.

All these starters were consumed within seconds, were at optimal temperatures, and the sauce that covered each cauliflower was exquisite. The service was ok this time around. The avocado looked like it was going bad and still had the skin on it...I've never seen an avocado served like that in a restaurant before...almost bad and with the skin still on it. I also wasn't aware it would have steak slices as it doesn't specify that in the description of the rancher's hash so I assumed it'd be crumbled ground beef...either way, the bowl itself didn't look as appetizing as it sounded in the description. I opted to switch to the grass fed burger I had my first visit here and it was ok, first time was definitely better than this time around and the air fried fries were ok, most of them underneath the initial picture look and tasted overcooked which was another disappointment. I enjoyed with my lavender matcha, Margherita sourdough pizza (YUM!) and the brussel sprouts for our starters. This visit was certainly disappointing on Mother's Day. I really want to recommend and keep coming back for the fact that it's health consciousness menu but don't want to pay for 'just ok' food either...nor recommend a place that's just ok.

A quick heads-up: on Google Maps it's listed as Ceviche 517, but the sign on the building says Tavern 517, which initially threw us off. We were circling around until we decided to just trust the physical address--and we're so glad we did. As soon as we walked in, the name didn't even matter anymore. The decor is stunning--definitely has an upscale, Instagram-worthy vibe with a modern lounge feel. We might've come a little early because the place was quiet when we arrived, but that worked in our favor as we got to settle in comfortably and explore the menu. Drinks were a mixed experience. We tried the margarita flight, which included coconut, passion fruit, and strawberry. The coconut and passion fruit margaritas were absolutely delicious--fresh, balanced, and memorable. The strawberry, however, was a big miss--tasted like kid's medicine and no one at the table could finish it. We also ordered a drink called something like Chicola--it had ginger ale, lime juice, and some type of liquor, and unfortunately, it was another one we couldn't get through. The flavors just didn't mix well, and everyone at the table agreed it was a no for us. On the flip side, the Perfect Mule with a strawberry twist, the Henny Mojito, and a bold and fun drink called No Sheets were much better received. Menus are displayed on sleek tablets, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the in-house menu offered way more options than what's listed online. And the food? Absolutely excellent. The Tallarín Saltado with vegetables was beyond delicious--we placed it in the center so everyone could dig in. The ceviche flight was fresh and flavorful, and the jalea (a fried seafood platter) didn't last long on the table either. One friend had the larger ceviche bowl paired with a mojito and already asked to come back just for that combo. Even the kid's arroz chaufa with chicken impressed us, with a big enough portion for leftovers. If there's one thing that fell flat, it was the atmosphere--at least early in the evening. When we arrived, the music playing sounded like retro video game tunes, but thankfully it transitioned into upbeat Spanish hits, including some great bachata that gave the space some energy. All in all, despite a few drink misses and a quiet start, this spot is a gem. The food alone is worth the trip, and we're definitely planning to return--next time a little later in the evening to hopefully catch a livelier vibe!
