Sake Verra Matcha
Cathi C.

Valet parking, street parking or there's garage parking across the street. The spot is a vibe, from the ceiling lights to the TV screen illustrations-- it set the mood. I came here with four other girlfriends, we reserved three weeks ago. I started with the Sake Verra Matcha cocktail, I loved tasting the sake and get the after taste of matcha. We started with the Wagyu wontons, sticky ribs and the tuna pizza. I must say the Wagyu was a little salty for me and I usually love Wagyu. The sticky ribs were so flavorful and tender -- they were my favorite starter. The tuna pizza was light and tasted so fresh and refreshing. We then ordered two MM rolls and each chose our own roll to do family style with. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. The prawn head from the MM rolls were crispy but the prawn's maxillipeds were a little spiky (be careful if you eat, I cut my lip a little) I did enjoy every roll -- we ordered the yellowtail, eel avocado , salmon avocado, negitoro, and the tuna avocado. Enjoyed all of them! The best but also not so best part was dessert. I absolutely love the tiramisu. The tiramisu tasted like it was soaked in a brandy and or amaretto liquor. I didn't taste the espresso flavor I usually enjoy but I absolutely think this is the best tiramisu I have ever tasted! It was so light but it was hitting the spot. The not so best part of dessert was the apple pie, I was actually looking forward to a mochi style dessert and confused about the apple pie because it was dry. Overall, I loved the experience and the delicious food. The staff seemed friendly, very to themselves though I know it was a busy night.

Here's the deal! Wonderful service & atmosphere! The Japanese steakhouse & sushi menu has a lot of inventive dishes that don't disappoint! This is ideal for a fancy date night or special celebration There is pay valet parking or a garage across from the restaurant

Tried this restaurant for the first time. 5p on a Saturday. They offer valet which is great. Beautifully decorated restaurant with great lighting. The server Junie was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was amazing! Best bite was the Sticky Ribs which had this surprising and perfect crispy outer and a really delicious sauce. Every thing we had was also delicious. Cocktails were good too! Would certainly return to try everything else I didn't have

We were seated right away. It's a large restaurant with modern decor creating a hip & trendy vibe. Everything we had was delicious from the tuna pizza appetizer to the Bap entrees and the tiramisu dessert! The timing of the serving of the courses was perfect! Not too fast or too slow. Our server was very attentive checking in after each course, having dirty plates pulled and water refilled. We will definitely come back!

Here's a more coherent and concise version: **Revised Review:** MM is trendy and feels more suited for cocktails and a light bite than an intimate dinner. The décor and ambiance come off a bit sterile, but the food was great--especially the oysters and salmon appetizers. Service was attentive, and the staff was friendly and helpful, even answering questions about the dessert.

Wow this place is top notch . Came here twice so far. 1st time we had reservations and sat at a table and 2nd time we sat at the bar for drinks . Service was great both times. Cocktails are delicious . My favorite is the Kofi martini . We had the Miso soup ... so fresh and yummy The sticky ribs are a MUST! YUM The corn tempura was pretty good The Surf and Turf roll is $45 but AMAZING We also had the 10oz marinated skirt steak with the truffle cheesy potato as a side which was DELISH Will definitely come back This place has a vibe Parking deck across the street Hopefully I will be able to snag a seating next door at the $300 pp omakase one day Cheers

The ambiance, the vibe and the aesthetic of this place is immaculate, for a meal or just a work hangout. There's plenty of seating at the bar area and there are different table styles for like dates or big groups. But what makes it stand out is their amazing Espresso Martini! It is so delectable perfect way to end a perfect meal. I will say their carpaccio app is out of this world delicious and their ribeye was very tender and just how we ordered it, perfectly medium rare. The servers are always friendly and informative and willing to give honest recommendations. Great place over all I hope they keep up with their excellent service.

My husband and I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary on a weekday. First off, the restaurant is stunning and everyone from the hostess to the server made it a point to wish us happy anniversary. I did not love where we seated and asked to sit more in the central of the restaurant but even though there were only 3/4 other tables taken, they said they couldnt accommodate our request because the tables were all reserved. Bummer but no big deal. On to the food.. YUM. I tried the best bap I've ever tried. So much so I went home and tried to recreate the dish! The oysters were fresh and delicious and we tried the surf and turf roll which was great too. We went with the tirimasu dessert which my husband loved but I thought lacked presentation. And finally we were treated to two complimentary champagne flutes. I will definitely return!

A trendy spot that was bustling even on a weekday night! I would recommend ordering beyond the rolls, as there is even a whole back section of the menu dedicated to Wagyu dishes. There's a good mix of modern, interesting dishes like Tuna Pizza but personally weren't anything outstanding in terms of flavor or presentation. The cocktail menu was fun with lots of creative drinks to try - including low ABV and mocktails. Perhaps because the establishment is fairly new, the waitstaff were young and also new. Expect to order all your food at once - the food portions are generally small so your server may recommend you to order many dishes; we got 8 dishes for 5 people. But the waitstaff is very attentive - they would come by every 15-20 minutes, which is surprising for a very busy, popular spot.

I've been to MM by Morimoto about five or six times now, and every single visit has been stellar. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the thought and precision that went into creating this space. It's elegant without being pretentious, modern yet warm. What truly sets MM apart is the service. Every experience feels personal. The staff remembers your name, your preferences, and genuinely makes you feel like a valued guest, not just another table. The owner himself is often present, greeting guests with a smile, checking in on tables, and creating this wonderful sense of connection and hospitality that's increasingly rare these days. And then there's Chef Morimoto - yes, the Iron Chef himself. During the first few weeks after the restaurant launched, he made several appearances, greeting guests, watching the kitchen flow, and ensuring everything was executed with precision. You could see his signature attention to detail in everything from the plating to the pacing to the music and lighting. His influence is felt in every bite. The food? Simply unmatched. Every dish is crafted with care, creativity, and respect for the ingredients. The sushi melts in your mouth, the flavors are balanced and bright, and the presentations are nothing short of art. It's one of those rare spots where every visit feels like the first - exciting, satisfying, and worth every penny. If you're looking for a dining experience that's consistently exceptional, beautifully executed, and infused with genuine hospitality, MM by Morimoto is it.

french onion soup - get this 100%!!!
Marissa S.

I loved the ambiance and thought the prices were great for the value, except for the dessert. Their french onion soup is literally the best i've ever had, and it was only around $14. I didn't love the miso cod entree, so i wouldn't get that again. but i'd definitely come back for drinks and the starters, which were all great. Husband loved the tuna pizza and carpaccio. Apple pie was just okay - i wouldn't order it again. All in all, I had a great experience and would definitely come back.

I loved everything about it here. The food was delicious, service was great (except I wish the wait staff didn't wear perfume or scented lotion because it is hard to enjoy a meal when the strong floral scent lingers while you're trying to eat). The ambiance is fun and modern. It makes for a great date spot. I enjoyed all the food, especially the tempura corn and the steak. The tiramisu was just eh for me. I think I'll pass on that next time. Parking is convenient. They have valet and there is a parking deck right across the street if you don't like valet.

It's the kind of place that feels thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Our waiter was incredibly welcoming and friendly, which set a great tone for the meal. For drinks, we ordered the Raspberry Moon and a matcha latte. Both were colorful, well-presented, and really tasty, a nice way to start the meal. The food itself was an experience. We ordered the temaki set and got to learn how to assemble our own hand rolls, which made the meal interactive and fun. The sushi arrived in a beautiful presentation and everything tasted fresh and high quality. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience with great service, creative drinks, and delicious food. Definitely a spot worth checking out in Montclair.

The reservation required a credit card but I was able to mention a birthday. We were seated right away at a nice window table with a bench, which made it easy to fit everyone. We ordered a bunch of small plates and not a single miss: Tuna Crudo -- fresh, simple, and kid-approved Japanese Potato Salad with Ikura -- lightly creamy with a salty, briny pop Asari Clam Soup -- loaded with clams, miso; buttery and comforting Furikake Cottage Fries -- hot, round crispy ridges with a ketchup-y dip, very snackable for everyone Spicy Tuna Dip -- gone in about 60 seconds For the temaki (hand rolls), they recommend 5 per person. They do something a little different and honestly pretty fun. The fillings come out on flat sticks in a wooden holder (kinda like a taco stand), and you get boxes of nori (seaweed sheets) on the side. You slide the filling onto the seaweed yourself and eat it right away, so everything stays nice and crisp. It's a little DIY, but in a good way. While they offer 3 Temaki preselected sets, you can also order a la carte. I went with the Signature Set (tuna poke, XO scallop, coconut shrimp, salmon serrano, cucumber black sesame) and was really happy with it. We also got also got 2 sets of California rolls for the girls. My brother's Everything Bagel hand roll was a fun surprise. It tasted just like one. We finished with the Lemon Curd Churros- fresh, hot, and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The curd was a little on the firm side, but still good. Everyone left full and delighted. NOTES/TIPS: **BYOB, Wheelchair-accessible. Clean bathrooms. Modern vibes. **Entire menu is gluten-free **Vegan options available if you ask, plus a strong plant-based roll selection **Plan for ~5 hand rolls per person (including the kids) **Several parking decks a block or two away

Wabi Sabi by far is one of the best sushi restaurants in New Jersey!…read more As a restaurant owner myself, I know how much work goes on behind the scenes to create a great dining experience -- and this sushi spot is doing it right. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rolls were well balanced, and everything came out looking as good as it tasted. What stood out to me most was the consistency and attention to detail. The staff was friendly, service flowed smoothly, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. It's always nice to support places that clearly care about their craft. If you love good sushi, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. I'm already looking forward to coming back.

If you are a true sushi purist, you know that the best experiences often hide behind the most…read moreunassuming storefronts. This place is the definition of a hidden gem--a masterclass in traditional sushi sitting quietly on a culinary wasteland of a street. The commitment to quality here is staggering. This isn't your standard neighborhood joint slinging spicy mayo rolls; the seafood here boasts absolute freshness, with rare fish flown in weekly directly from Japan. You will find cuts here that are nearly impossible to source at standard sushi restaurants, elevating the experience to something you'd typically only find at an exclusive omakase counter. Let's talk about the tuna. The vast majority of sushi spots try to pass off cheap, frozen yellowfin as a premium offering. Not here. They source incredibly high-quality Spanish Bluefin--the exact same caliber of fish utilized by Michelin-starred establishments. What truly sets them apart is their ability to offer the complete trinity of bluefin cuts: the deep, ruby-red lean akami, the perfectly marbled chu-toro, and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth o-toro. The menu reads like a love letter to the ocean. Finding high-grade yellowtail belly can be a challenge, but here, it is a staple of exceptional quality. For those with an adventurous and educated palate, the chefs regularly feature incredibly hard-to-find selections like itoyori (golden threadfin bream), mejina (opaleye), and a luxuriously rich fatty bonito. The uni deserves its own paragraph. Sea urchin can be a gamble at lesser restaurants, but here it is pristine. On any given night, you might be lucky enough to find both creamy California uni and the briny, delicate Hokkaido uni available for side-by-side comparison. Another testament to their traditional approach and culinary respect is how they utilize the week's fresh catch to craft a warm, incredibly tasty fish head soup. It is a deeply comforting, umami-rich broth that extracts every ounce of flavor from the premium seafood they bring in, showcasing a level of authenticity you rarely see anymore. While the menu does offer French-inspired dishes and various hot kitchen items, let me be clear: you are here for the sushi. The hot food isn't bad by any means, but if you truly want a culinary experience, do not waste precious stomach space on it. You are here for the raw fish. The singular exception to this rule is the pork gyoza--they are remarkably juicy and absolutely worth the order. Do not skip dessert. In many sushi restaurants, desserts are an afterthought, but here they are top-notch and entirely homemade. The Japanese flan is impossibly silky and decadent. However, the true star is the crème brûlée cheesecake--it is remarkably smooth, slicing effortlessly at the touch of a fork, with a deeply satisfying flavor profile that entirely avoids being overly sweet. I have to address the elephant in the neighborhood: this place absolutely destroys Morimoto down the street. Morimoto has become a tourist trap resting on a recognizable name, employing inexperienced chefs to cater to the sheep-like masses who prioritize a flashy dining room over authentic taste. If you actually understand and respect true sushi, you skip the theatrical nonsense down the street and come here. Let's also be brutally honest about the price point: excellence comes at a premium. This is an uncompromising, high-end culinary experience, and the bill reflects the quality of ingredients flown in from Japan. If you are a bargain hunter, looking for cheap eats, or aren't willing to pay for top-tier craftsmanship, save your time and look elsewhere. This establishment is for serious diners who understand the value of good sushi and aren't just looking for a good enough "AYCE" experience.

As we were looking through their very large menu to the side, what to order, the waiter brought an appetizer on the house, which I believe was some kind of tempura fish, which was pretty good! We ordered four rolls and one miso soup. I do have to say that other places give you the miso soup when you order more than one roll, so it was different that we had to order it separately and pay for it separately, but I understand that restaurants are different. We got the Montclair, the Caldwell, the salmon avocado, and their Hawaiian roll. The one that truly stood out to me was the Hawaiian roll, it had kiwi and mango on top which made for a delicious combination and very refreshing. The other three rolls were OK, nothing outstanding. That miso was a bit sweet, which was different for me. At the end of our meal, they gave us orange slices and they were actually delicious! It was a cute surprise and truly showed the vibe of the people who run this place. Overall, the bill came around $50ish which was incredibly cheap for all four rolls and the soup. I definitely would come here again to get the Hawaiian roll and maybe try out some other stuff!
