I was starving. I should've also looked at menu in full before driving 40 mins here. It was more of a quick bite/breakfast menu. Service provided by staff was perfect. Both Ann and Gustavo were breaths of fresh air. I ordered Mac & cheese, chicken wings and mahi tacos. Mac & cheese was do-able, chicken was good but not completely cooked so I stopped eating it. The mahi fish were rubbery. I had to ask for a new set of tortillas because the original ones got soggy and broke off. I love coming here for their pancakes with the blueberry sauce. It's one of my favorite things to get for breakfast when I'm eating out. With that said, the size of their pancakes has drastically decreased. My mom and I used to split them, and this time I barely got full off the full portion. I also really wish that they'd filter their tap water. It always smells bad and tastes bad. I also get their turmeric latte which is absolutely delicious, but this last time was watered down. They have a decent menu and are usually crowded. I came here on a Monday around 1pm and was sat right away but there were only a few tables available. My waiter was friendly and accommodating. It's been several years since I've been to Raymond's. Had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table but it was a Saturday afternoon. I had a cheeseburger with fries and it was definitely one of the most delicious burgers I've ever had. Soft bun, perfectly cooked medium, and very juicy. Those are the key things for a tasty burger. My vegetarian days might be well behind me, but I've got to pour out some love for the veggie burger at Raymond's. Every time I order it, I'm freshly in awe of how picturesque this burger is with its towering top bun atop an unimaginably crisped crust. I've found a lot of veggie burgers to suffer in taste and texture (I can't tell you how many have just deteriorated in my hands), but the good people at Raymond's know how to take care of their plant eaters. The accompanying fries are the skinny kind. While they're not my favorite type (mainly because it feels like I have to eat five to eight at a time to feel like I'm tasting the potato) and smaller in serving size, I appreciated that they were decently hot and well seasoned. It wouldn't be a diner if they didn't serve breakfast all day, and my breakfast fiend of a husband was positively gleeful over his omelette (all whites can be done upon request). He was even happier with the side serving of salad, which was far from the sad and wilted greens that typically compose a side salad. Instead, this was a robust helping of fresh greens, pepper slices, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers that took up a whole half of his large plate. Service is warm, prompt, and faultless - exactly what you'd want from a quintessential diner experience. And while the decor doesn't add or detract from the good, I also adore the colored bottle displays that I've found are signature of all Raymond's diners (for those who care about such things, it makes for a highly Instagrammable backdrop). read more

Came here for a spontaneous anniversary lunch. It's BYOB, which is great because there's a cute Artesian Wine Store need door! We sat and then I ran over to grab a few libations. For our meals hubby had the Cobb Salad Dinner and a soup. I tried his salad and it was delicious. The onions were fried to perfection! For myself, I ordered the Belgian waffle with fruit, and the avocado toast. Both were so good! The waffle was hearty and not at all dry. The toast was a tad burnt underneath; but perfectly seasoned and topped with pickled radish, sunflower seeds and a poached egg. I ate every bite! The server was attentive and kind. The space is cozy, has lots of seating, and in a great area for walking around after your meal. We came before lunch started and it wasn't packed, but more people started coming in as time passed. Came here for brunch on a Sunday. It was super packed and couldn't find the waitress to give our names but when she came she took names down from another group that came in after us. Then they sat us in a small corner table in between two large tables so we had to ask the table to get up so we could use the rest room. Plus it's super loud in there. I saw the low rating for Raymond's on Yelp and asked if we could switch locations. The company we were with insisted the food is good so we kept our reservations. The restaurant has a BYOB policy, which can be fun if you are eating with friends. The food was good and all plates and silverware were clean! Service was very fast and the atmosphere was pleasant...minus our table atmosphere. We ordered a kid's plate of grilled chicken and mashed potatoes for our toddlers. We also ordered calamari and fish tacos. The calamari was a 5 out of 5 stars. It was delicious, had the perfect crunch and even the hot peppers were deep fried as well! The fish tacos I thought were chicken tacos...so not the best. The fish was overcooked and had a rubbery texture. All in all I would definitely come back here with friends or family. I've found heaven, and it's called Raymond's Diner in Montclair. Excellent brunch spot in the of Montclair !! First off, they have outdoor seating where my dog, Ms. Bella, was not only welcome but treated like a VIP guest. She even got a water bowl before I did (which, honestly, I respect). Now let's talk food. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with salmon and home fries, and let me tell you, I saw my life flash before my eyes after the first bite. I'm talking peak happiness here. The eggs were perfectly poached, the salmon was on point, and the home fries were the kind of crispy that dreams are made of. I also ordered a little steak and eggs, because why not? And that was a power move. The steak was juicy, the eggs fluffy, and I think my taste buds started doing a celebratory dance. But wait, there's more! I finished off with donuts, because that's what winners do. They even gave me glaze on the side like I was some sort of donut connoisseur. I have no complaints about this place. They allowed me to sit inside and wait for my friend and offered me water in the meantime. The food we ordered all had generous portions and was very tasty. I loved my pasta and the Mac n cheese was great too. I liked that the biscuits had a touch of sweetness to go with the fried chicken as well. GF got the Heuvos Rancheros and I thought it was just ok. Mosh post of flavors with nothing really taking center stage or standing out. She liked it though so that's what really matters I guess. I also wanted to try out their coffee. Decided on the Americano which is my go-to and it was bad. The coffee tasted burnt and it was not good even though it was brewed fresh in front of us. Also the cups are not well insulated. After about an hour the bottom edges started soaking through and coffee was leaking out. I added a picture of what I'm referring to. Overall this is a good spot for well seasoned breakfast food that is hard to find in our area. I'd definitely come back here for the food but not so much the espresso coffee. read more

I checked this restaurant for dinner with a friend this past Tuesday. My friend recommended it because she enjoyed their brunch. I got the classic cheeseburger and fries. The fries were really good, I enjoyed them. My burger was just alright. The bun was really charred, which gave the burger a bit of a charcoal taste. I could only eat 3/4 of it because I was getting tired of the taste. My friend got the Mac & cheese and said it was good. She also got the fish tacos to go. It had a really strong "fresh out of ocean" scent, so she was a little worried about that. The staff was nice and the overall place looked nice. I don't go to Montclair too often, especially in the morning, so with a trip to the town planned, my wife and I figured we'd get breakfast/brunch. Raymond's was top rated so we swung by. We were seated immediately - it wasn't packed but it wasn't empty - but we waited an incredibly long time for anyone to come by the table to give us water or take our order. So long that I actually started looking at other places nearby. Finally, a server swung by and took our orders. My wife got a burger and a club soda, I got an omelette that I specifically asked be scrambled up instead of folded over. Both my wife and I clocked how the waitress neglected to write that down even though she registered it was said. It took way too long before my wife got her club soda, and eventually, the food was delivered. Not surprisingly, the omelette was folded over. I immediately mentioned it to the person who brought it out (another server), and she took it back. By the time it was corrected, which was far from immediate, my wife had finished her burger. When it was brought to the table, there was no apology. I ate and some time passed before the server returned. At that point our drinks had been empty for significant periods of time. I didn't want to wait for anything else so I asked for the check. There is only one chance to make a first impression, and I am sure you can guess what mine is of Raymond's. I was hopeful our experience could be used as a lesson to the staff to write orders down so I sent an email to the restaurant but never heard back, so instead I'll let it at least be a lesson to potential diners. read more

Went here for dinner last week. I had always heard about Raymond's but only its brunches. Turns out dinner was pretty spectacular too, and way less crowded! Raymond's looks like an old school diner but the food options are much more modern. I was disappointed they had fun out of Buttermilk fried chicken, but the BBQ chicken sandwich I had more than made up for it. The French fries were delicious, too. I was seated immediately during a late morning weekday service with the hosts, being pretty attentive and the service being consistent with check-in and water. the space itself is beautifully designed old-school with tile floors and an intricate dark wood bar. The marble table tops lend to a timeless touch with the knitted chairs and roomy leather booths. Classic pendants scale the tin ceiling. The food has a range of breakfast and brunch items as well as delicious sandwiches. I've had the pancakes, the omelettes, and the turkey club. Whatever they do for home fries, it's like a British roasted potato and is topnotch. the food is generally executed pretty well and in my experience service is frequent though not always the warmest. food comes out in a decent time, if not fast. Overall, a really great stop for a casual brunch or lunch, but the restaurant can get crowded and outside seating is a perfect option. Easily 4.5 stars! read more
