    California Breakfast B.L.T.

Oh my goodness! This diner is amazing! It's by far the fanciest diner I have ever been to. Decorated with the theme of Alice in Wonderland, there is so much to look at. The building sits atop a hill that overlooks NYC in the distance. I came with 3 other women for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. The restaurant is very large, so we were promptly seated. Our server, Jessica, was tops! I had the California Breakfast BLT which was large and delicious. It came with chips that were very good. I also ordered a bowl of fresh fruit for the table to share-very good. Two of the other ladies had omelettes that were good. The coffee was very good and our cups were never empty. I am looking to return on my next visit to NJ.

Review for Breakfast. Chit Chat is a huge and impressive venue with high ceilings and a very colorful eclectic design. Super roomy and comfortable. It's really more of an up scale full service restaurant. The service is exceptional. Excellent teamwork. Our server took our order and visited the table several times during the meal making sure we had everything we needed. Plus, the second tier servers were continually filling our water glasses and coffee mugs. I ordered my usual. A Florentine omelette. Fresh spinach with creamy feta and a side of golden hash browns. Nicely prepared. My wife ordered the French toast deluxe. Egg drenched challah bread grilled to perfection with a side of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and Taylor ham. Plus, a bottle of warm Vermont maple syrup. Everything was delicious. The coffee was very good as well. Rich and mellow. I have dined at the Chit Chat several times previously for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have always been very satisfied. I will be back for sure. Try it. I think you'll like it.

    $7.00 for fries

I've been a loyal, repeat customer of Chit Chat Diner in West Orange for quite some time, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Today, I decided to switch it up from my usual Cobb salad and ordered something simple--a grilled cheese. When my server, Daniel, asked if I wanted fries on the side, I agreed without hesitation. It's fries... nothing complicated, right? At no point was pricing discussed, and I didn't think to ask because it's typically a basic add-on. Things started to go left when I realized I was never asked what type of bread I wanted. When I brought it up, Daniel told me they had already made it with white bread--without even checking. That response alone was frustrating. I had to insist that it be made correctly with rye, which it eventually was. However, it still came out wrong again--this time with American cheese instead of the cheddar I specifically requested. Now let's talk about the bill. The grilled cheese was $8.95, bacon was an additional $3, and then there was a $7 charge labeled "deluxe." That "deluxe" charge? A small bowl of fries--maybe 20 fries at best. I was honestly floored. A $7 upcharge for fries is excessive, especially when there was no clear communication that agreeing to fries meant upgrading the meal to a "deluxe" at that price point. I understand a "deluxe" upgrade when it comes with a full burger setup--lettuce, tomato, onions, fries--but this felt misleading and disproportionate for what was actually served. To make matters worse, the fries weren't even good enough to justify the cost. I brought this to management's attention, and nothing was done to resolve or meaningfully address the concern. That was the most disappointing part. As someone who has supported this diner and returned consistently, this experience has made me seriously reconsider coming back. Transparency, attention to detail, and basic service standards matter--especially for loyal customers.

Great ambiance and very spacious. Great for a work lunch, catching up with family, or for spending time with a loved one. The menu selection is thorough and you can't really go wrong with anything on it. I would recommend coming for a nice meal and great service.

    Pancake syrup

The decor and tables are nice and the food was very good. The only issue I had was with the syrup. When you order pancakes, you only get one small bottle. When I asked for an extra syrup or two they gave me small packets of Smuckers syrup which aren't the same as the original syrup offered. The Smuckers syrup also tastes different. Their reasoning is that they have to up charge you more for each additional small bottle of syrup they give you, like they originally provided. Thats understandable, but when you order a standard stack of pancakes, they are big and dry and need a little more syrup than the small bottle they provided. They should have at least offered enough syrup to cover the large pancakes they offer.

Service was very attentive. Decor is so cute and interesting. The sittings were comfortable. Food were good, hot and fresh. Parking was the only negative for me. It was tough to find an odd sharped lot.

I just have to take a moment to show love to Chit Chat Diner From the moment you walk in, the vibe is unmatched--fun, colorful, and full of life. The service is always amazing, fast, and welcoming, which makes every visit feel special. I also want to personally thank Gus, the owner, for being so kind and generous to me. It truly doesn't go unnoticed, and it's rare to come across someone who treats people with that level of care and hospitality. And let's talk about that Orange Whip Z ... absolutely next level! If you know, you know. Everything on the menu is a hit, but that right there is a MUST try. If you're looking for great food, great service, and an all-around great experience--Chit Chat Diner is the place to be. I'll definitely be back!

This place is a must‑try. Parking can be a little tricky and the wait for a table might get long, but it's absolutely worth it. The menu is huge, with tons of options -- especially around lunchtime. Service was excellent; our server Javier was fantastic. The décor is colorful, clean, and gives a modern twist to classic American diners. I really enjoyed this spot and would definitely come back.

Nice spot in Jersey. My first experience in a diner and it was pretty cool. Got the pot roast and the dish was spectacular i couldn't finish it! Customer service was great here and the ambiance was awesome. Would definitely come back!

Came here before our trip to Turtleback zoo. This was my wife and niece's first New Jersey diner experience. The niece got the waffles which any 5 yr old would enjoy. I split the Deep South with my brother and my wife had the Greek omelet. The waffles were great. The rest of the food were fine. The hash browns didn't seemed cooked enough and the deep fried steak was a little dry. Service was friendly and the ambiance had an old time diner feel to it. If you were swinging by and wanted a place to get some quick food, this would probably hit the spot.

The ambiance here is super cute with quirky, eye-catching décor that makes the space feel fun and inviting. You also get a view of the skyline. I love a diner that also offers adult drink options--it's the best of both worlds. We came for lunch, and I ordered the BLT. It was well-presented, classic, and pretty tasty, served with a side house salad and their Greek vinaigrette, which I absolutely loved. I also started with the Fiber Provider smoothie, and I'm so glad I did--it was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to get my morning/afternoon fruit fix. My boyfriend went the breakfast route with waffles, eggs, sausage, and bacon--simple, hearty, and done well. His Uptown (an Arnold Palmer) was a standout, made with real lemonade and sweet tea for a refreshing touch. The service was pretty decent as well. Overall, a great casual spot for a mix of diner favorites, fresh drinks, and a charming atmosphere.

This is a diner? Really nicely appointed diner this setting inside & out gives the impression of much more than a diner! The views alone makes it worth eating here! Pretty much the menu is diner but there are some very upgraded items that makes it so much better restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Amore Breaded Chicken Cutlet topped with house made bruschetta, mozzarella cheese and balsamic glaze. Served over angel hair pasta with fresh sautéed garlic and oil. My wife had Pappardelle Bolognese. They have bottled beers, wine & some adult mixed beverages as well as soft drinks. An extensive Breakfast menu. Our server Mike L. was attentive. This is a gem in West Orange NJ. As far as Diners go this is

I've had a good diner experience every time I go here. Service is always good and on top of everything. It's very well run especially for such a huge space. The decor is cute, and of course there are those views of the city. The food is always good too, from quesadillas to the Jack Daniels smothered pork chops. I had a salad in August and it was full of multi-colored, juicy, local tomatoes, yum.

Nice black-owned spot with variety of vegan options and it is clean. There's space to dine-in and they are open on Sundays. The energy is also open enough where strangers will have a convo while waiting. Coming from Brooklyn, I'm happy to have this spot so close to where I am now. Savory: My go-to is the chickpea tuna sandwich. I've tried it on a roll, long sub, and gluten-free... highly recommend the long sub. It's way too messy on the roll for me. Typically get it with the works. The potato salad is also very good most of the time (sometimes the potatoes are a little undercooked). I've also had the macaroni salad and the fried mushroom sandwich which are also good. I definitely enjoyed the thanksgiving special with stuffing (highly recommend that if they bring it back this year). Tip: if ordering a hero and you don't see yourself eating the entire thing in one sitting, I recommend requesting for the sandwich to not be cut so you can cut it evenly on your own For baked goods: the peach cobbler is good and it comes in a cute cup with a little spoon. I've also had the lemon cake & rum cake. Would order all 3 again. Would love to see donuts or cinnamon rolls (hopefully without cashews or walnuts due to my allergy). DRINKS: I haven't had a drink there that I would get again. The teas are overwhelmingly sweet; hibiscus punch was a lot like kool-aid to me. I also don't recommend the matcha if you are a matcha snob. Harper's Cafe is a great black-owned spot for a consistently good latte and they use quality matcha if you want quality nearby. Great spot with lots of options, especially if you're looking for a black-owned spot to support.

Recently, we finally made a trip out to Tick Tock Diner since we had heard so much buzz about it over the years and the fact that they were always ranked amongst the "best" diners in the state - depending on which outlet you viewed. On every list I looked at, it was always either Tops or Tick Tock at the very top (say that 10 times fast!). However, after we visited, it was VERRRY, VERRRRY clear to us which one deserved to be at the top. We dropped in on a random spring Saturday at around 11:20 AM and, not to anyone's surprise, it was pretttttyy busy inside, but we were able to snag a booth seat immediately. In fact, I don't think it ever reached full capacity that morning, but it was definitely close to it. On the outside, the diner has every bit that classic diner look you've seen in the movies - tons of silver, shiny metal with shades of red and blue and a big sign with its name for the optically challenged. On the inside, I don't know what to really make of it, but it looks like a schizophrenic partially renovated restaurant blended with a classic diner full of booths. It's clear that the diner was expanded at some point in its lifetime because of the drastic differences between the 2 dining areas. Anyway, ONTO THE MENU. If you've frequented diners, you've probably come to know and love how gargantuan the menus typically are with a little bit of everything for everyone. They don't miss ANYTHING. And, yes, the menu here is more diverse than most restaurants, but it seriously was uncharacteristically more condensed than most diners. It was a grand total of 2 pages - the front and back of a single paper. To their credit, they also had a brunch menu too, but it was nothing extraordinary. After mulling it over, I decided to just keep it super simple - Two Eggs Over Medium with Home Fries and Corned Beef Hash. My wife ordered the Roasted Pear Salad with Shrimp and we got the kids a Kids Mac and Cheese with Fries. FIrst, my Two Eggs Over Medium with Home Fries and Corned Beef Hash was pretty much what it was. It was solid and hit the spot. Couldn't complain much about it. As for my wife's Pear Salad, it only came with FOUR shrimp. FOUR for $8 more. Talk about feeling robbed. To say that she was disappointed was an understatement. On top of it, the salad was pedestrian according to her. For the Kids Mac and Cheese, I had a few bites of it and it was OK. The one great thing about it was that it came out piping hot and was gooey. The fries were verrry, verrry sad though and clearly the frozen type. Service was up and down throughout our meal. Our waiter was friendly and came by to check on us, but he couldn't accommodate cooking my home fries longer, which I love to do because it makes it extra crispy. We just never felt any love from the waitstaff and even though our waiter was relatively friendly, we also felt a bit ignored in the corner. On a side note, the parking lot was massive, so there was plenty of parking spots. Also, the restaurant's interior is very big, hence why we didn't have to wait for a table. To be honest, I'm not sure what the fuss is about and how Tick Tock even cracks the top 10 diners in the state. Everything was quite ordinary and NOTHING like what we think is the best diner in the state, Tops. The fact that there is so much hype around Tick Tock kind of diminishes the experience of eating here because of the expectations. If Tick Tock was just talked about like any other diner, the experience would probably exceed expectations.
