Spinach Egg Benedict
Isa I.

I stopped by after a workout and Maplewood Diner hit the spot. I ordered the Spinach Benedict (I think it was the Florentine?) and it was so good -- perfectly poached eggs, a rich hollandaise, and a hearty layer of sautéed spinach. It came with crispy hashbrowns that were sooo good and the perfect level of cripsy. I added a side of avocado, which was fresh and creamy, and just rounded everything out. My friend opted for a turkey bacon and egg sandwich, which they enjoyed. As for drinks, the coffee was just okay--nothing to write home about-- But the star moment? The chocolate milk. I barely blinked and it was gone. Rich, cold, and just nostalgic perfection. The diner was packed when we came in (May 4), but the energy was great - busy, loud in a good way, and full of locals. Our server was the absolute best part: she was rocking festive wear for "Cinco de Cuatro" since she didn't work May 5th (cinco de mayo) and had such a warm, fun energy. The service here is very attentive and great

Good good, great service with a nice breakfast menu. This place has ample parking which is always appreciated.

Good food and great customer service. Love the soups and all the salad option. I am big fan of their George's Benedict and Huevos Rancheros. Really cool that they now have a hash browns option instead of home fries. BYOB! Voted one of the best diners in NJ. I live just down the street. Please don't block my driveway when finding street parking.

Popped in for a breakfast, the seating was for when we were all skinnier, at least without the winter jackets. The parking in the back or on the street. The staff was very attentive with the coffee, round every 10 min or so and the coffee drinkers really liked the coffee. The Belgian waffle was light and crisp, although the ham was a little thin but tasty and grilled. The potatoes here are Jersey style instead of shredded hashed browns, so not as enjoyable for me, but they did have great warm buttered toast. Overall a solid diner option.

Me and my uncle came here while in NJ looking for something to eat. We got seated right away and order a few things to start. My uncle order eggs Benedict which he enjoyed and gets that's most of the time when out. I got the fillet of flounder francais which was very good . Came with a vegetable and rice . Good sized portions as I was stuffed afterwards. The waitress was very good and very helpful . They have a door to the parking lot for handicapped patrons but for some reason you can only use it to exit and not go in. My uncle has difficulty walking and we had to go all the way around because the door was locked. Other than that we had a great experience and would go there again when in the area.

I had ordered a Lavender White Mocha which tasted kind of like a light lavender flavored cappuccino. In my mind, I was expecting a little more of a chocolate taste but maybe it got diluted since a white coffee should have a lot of milk. As a coffee it was very calm and tasted good, very nice to sip. But I may have been expecting to taste more of what is in the name. I also had The Bell. The warm brie cheese felt like it just melted in your mouth. there was a type of light jam smeared on and in the sandwich that complimented the turkey really well. Freshly made and warm. It was all around really good. It is a very pleasant experience. since I was eating in, they put the coffee in proper mugs that they just wash and reuse. The decorations had a warm industrial vibe to it. Like modern references but not flashy. One of their, lets say shrines, was a bunch of popular couples from TV shows and movies that people may know. It was next to a big open tree art piece. So its not always going together but didn't feel out of place. The music was pleasant and not loud to the point where you couldn't talk to a companion. The shop is along a busy street but they actually have a free parking lot in the next block over. It is certainly going in my list of shops to bring others too. It has a lot going for it and my takeaways has me thinking this business is going to stay open for a long time with all its good points.

Anyway, since then I've been back 3 more times; once for breakfast and twice for brunch. And while I'm confessing, the two times for lunch were on subsequent days. Yeah, they're that good. Actually, their chicken salad on a croissant is the best I've ever had and in my advanced years I've had a crapload of chicken salad. The have a nice sized coffee bar, decorated beautifully with some pretty delicious looking pastries. I'm on an anti-sweet phase so I'm basing my opinion on only on appearance. Then there's a seating area when you can eat, served by a friendly attentive staff and an adjacent boutique area where you can purchase housewares, clothing and other cool stuff. I'm not in Maplewood all that often, generally when I'm shopping at the equally awesome City Workshop but when I do, I always make sure to hit up Perch. You should too. 1/2 star deduction because they don't offer fake sugar, just that Stevia crap which is gross.

The wall frames and Christmas decorations are gorgeous and there are tables, with comfortable seating, on one end of the Cafe. I ordered the following: Matcha White Hot Chocolate (a traditional matcha latte blended with white chocolate sauce), Snickerdoodle Latte (A traditional latte, blended with brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla syrup). Both of these were served at the perfect temperature, were richly creamy, and served in large mugs. I also ordered a Carrot Cake Muffin and it was very good. It was moist, each forkful had a decent amount of walnuts, and the frosting was exquisite. Once you're finished with your food, don't forget to stroll through the entire cafe. You'll probably find something that will pique your interest. Either way, try to make time to enjoy it all.
