Now this is a great diner! After trying three others in the NYC we finally found one that knows what they are doing! So many great items it amazes me they can keep such a variety on the menu. Loved the Manhattan clam chowder on a cold day, followed by a truly homemade veggie burger with a basket of sweet potato fries. Nice presented with mini baskets of fries. Service was on point. Gluten free options were available. Ooh I forgot to mention they had a nice cole slaw for a side.

Atmosphere: It's not a huge metallic diner, nor is it big at all. It's located in the heart of Maplewood. There is plenty of street parking, but like any downtown, you might need to park and walk. The inside is modest with several booths and a few tables, as well as a small bar. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. I have no complaints. The waitress refilled it several times. Food: I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. The Maple Leaf Diner has everything from breakfast, to lunch, and dinner options. On the specials, they had split pea soup listed which is one of my favorite soups. When I ordered, they were out. I ultimately went with a BLT which I have no complaints with.  It was packed full. Service: The waitress was friendly, and our food came out fast. It was a positive experience. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? I liked the Maple Leaf Diner, and it was a positive experience. It's not a large diner, but it's a great local small town. There is plenty to do in Maplewood, so it's fun to spend a few hours there.

After spending the morning biking around Maplewood, we were hungry for some breakfast or brunch! Unfortunately, the restaurant scene at 10am on a Saturday in Maplewood is slim pickings. We figured "it's NJ, we can't go wrong with a diner!".... great decision! We were seated immediately and the place was super crowded and many folks looked like regulars. We both ordered omelettes, I created my own (great options!) and had to add a side order of the waffle fries... which were great by the way... and my boyfriend had the Mexican omelette with home fries and rye toast. We both liked the food and the portions were huge, very American. Service started out great but then he forgot about us after our plates were cleared so we ended up sitting for 15 minutes waiting for the check. No concerns here though, we weren't in a rush!

Every ingredient was so vibrant and delightful, with flavors that complimented each other beautifully. The sweet corn cakes combined with the heat of the shrimp and the creamy avocado were perfect. The various textures made each bite even better. My friend also loved the american waygu burger. The place was pretty packed around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, but service was still pretty quick. My nephew who lives nearby treated us to an al fresco meal recently while visiting for a family event. My pulled pork smashed burger was everything you want in a packed meat sandwich, with an onion ring and tangy sauce on the brioche bun. The sweet potato fries and a refreshing mocktail to drink made for a perfect meal. Sweetie ate a pasta bolognese (I think) which looked and ate good, and drowned it with a nice glass of red wine. It was packed on the Friday night we visited, with folks lined up for seating, or to hang at the bar and enjoy the bar scene. No reservations. Our late dinner worked fine as the mostly millennial and Gen-Z crowd started thinning shortly after we arrived. Millburn has always been a draw for neighboring townsfolk in search of a meal out. I remember this foodie town from 25 years ago, when its pizza, kosher and diner offerings were top notch. It seems to have upgraded its food scene several notches since my last visit so many years ago. Pure nostalgia for me which made for a very flavorful evening. TOP TIP: Street parking in this part of town is a hassle and the local cops keep a sharp eye for illegally parked cars and inebriated drivers. So park further away from the center of town where you are more likely to snag a legal spot on a busy night.

I wish I can eat this every night. The chicken was breaded just right, it was not dry at all. I was shocked. When ordering a chicken dish from any restaurant, it could be a toss up between any where from not being seasoned correctly or being dry, but this wasn't the case. I wish I would have had a dessert but I was so full from all of the goodness! Even their cappuccino was really good! All around 10's across. I ordered the vodka pasta and I'm guessing the pasta was fresh because it was very overcooked and essentially mushy. The sauce was good but due to the texture, I almost couldn't eat it. Others had the chicken Milanese which looked delicious and was a great portion size. The sauce on the meatballs was fresh and flavorful but I did not try the meatball itself. I do think this place deserves more than 3 stars just from the flavors and from observing the experience of others, but I can only rate based on what I ate and my own experience. Now that I've seen the full menu, I would consider going back and trying other items.
