First time here after passing it all the time and was pleasantly surprised. In orders the shrimp salad sandwich on toasted rye bread. It was really good. I don't like when places cut the shrimp up so tiny and this place did not so that at all. There were whole shrimp in it. My date ordered the burger deluxe andnhensoadnitnwas onay. His fries were really crispy and good. There was lots of seating if booths and a few tables. It was a nice crowd for early lunch.

NJ Here on Father's day... Service is ok considering. Wait why is the "otra" waitress reaching over me to fill the table caddy... I'm going to ignore that. Uh oh she just came back to refill the napkins. A loln "excuse me" perhaps would have been in order; did I get one? Am I being too picky? Ok hold up & W - T -__ (insert your favorite expletive) is this crawling on my plate. Where's my waitress, I debated telling the otra "happy waitress" about it why is she telling me no bug... Yes it a bug bucko lol Look I got ta go. Food is usually decent... I see they raised their prices. U decide let me know. Rise and shine; I think I'm going to hit the snooze button

have been here multiple times and always meet my expectations. I love their chicken and shrimp quesadillas and shrimp scampi! The service is good and the waitress is usually very friendly. The place always looks busy but still is able to make the orders in only 15-20 minutes after I call in which is always great. All in all, I think its a great restaurant and the food and service is amazing, the atmosphere is pretty okay in my opinion.

I give this place 1 star because the home fries and beef sausage were prepared to my liking. However, the hostess/waitress attitude was terrible and because of her nasty attitude, she was the cause of the other waitress not receiving a tip. Also the bathroom was disgusting. See the pic. This was my first and LA:ST time eating at this smoke filled, unclean establishment with the nasty hostess/waitress!!!

    Breakfast Quesadilla (cheese/eggs only)

I ate here today because my family lives in Plainfield and my sister likes this place. So I decided to give it a try. My first impression of this place upon walking in is it's a little outdated needs some work. The service was extremely slow although the restaurant was not crowded. They tell you to seat yourself anywhere so we choose a window booth. It was covered with crumbs from previous patrons. I guess they don't clean after each visitor. I don't eat meat so I ordered the breakfast quesadillas with cheese only. The waiter was writing on a notepad which was normal. We waited awhile for our food. It finally comes and low and behold it has bacon on it. They walk away so quickly after dropping off your food. I had to track another waitress down to say I ordered it without meat. She snatched the plate from my hand proceeded to speak in her language to the other workers. I asked my sister and brother-in-law if they heard my order they both said yes, you said cheese only no meat. I said ok I'm not f'n crazy so why she mad at me. She finally brings back a new order as I was about to say thanks she slams the plate down in front of me. I checked to see if there was meat, there wasn't any. I started eating my food and my family is now done because they took long with my order. The quesadilla was good the home fries was dry and crunchy and didn't taste fresh. I ordered a side of grits that was good . So after we finished eating we're waiting about 20 minutes to receive the bill. Finally we all get up to walk to the register and to my surprise they were hand writing up the bill and had multiple calculators adding up our bills. I was shocked we're in 2024 and they're using calculators to add up bill and hand write out what you had and taking price from menu . They really need to get some updated equipment in this place. Like I said outdated down to the billing system smh. I won't be returning the entire process took several hours.

This is a great local spot to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Good food at a good price, they have all the diner classics. It is always busy when I go and the girls who work there are very friendly.

We were seen and seated promptly. I was very specific with my order. Grilled cheese sandwich with Swiss and Monterey Jack cheese with bacon on rye bread. Exactly what I asked for no complaints. The apple juice was a little sweet, but I just asked for a cup of ice and it was fine.

At the Rise And Shine Diner in Scotch Plains NJ. $9.99 for this? 2 mini pieces of chicken and 2 decent sized ones? Ridiculous
    Russ T.

This is an order of chicken in the basket. They charge $9.99 for it. 2 medium sized pieces and a wing and a drumstick that are about 2 inches long each. I sent it back to the kitchen and told them I'm not paying for it. I can't believe they sent that out to my table. The restaurant had 2 other customers in it. This was my first and last time here. Those 2 pieces were the size of a McDonald's chicken nugget.

New favorite local breakfast place! I've lived around the corner for awhile and have never been until my car being in the shop forced me to take a walk... My food arrived quicker than I could scroll through my Twitter feed. Eggs were delicious and coffee had me asking for refills. Bottom line, portions were huge, food was excellent, service was great and the bill was affordable. They even let me hang out for 2 hours to finish my studies on a busy Friday rush! Will definitely be back soon!

French Egg Casarole for the win. Potatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, ham, and swiss cheese topped with 2 poached eggs.

Look, if you want to experience some kick ass breakfast, show up early. This place is proficient, clean, quick, accommodating, top service, and most of all delicious. I'm working on completing the egg casserole list. LOVE the French casserole. I don't give out 5 stars easily either.

Really great breakfast. Pancakes are the perfect mix of crunchy and chewy. Surprisingly nice outdoor seating, considering the location.

The restaurant is small and comfy, with 4-seat tables lined up against one wall and the opposite wall being taken up by a counter and counter seats. Pictures of food hang on both walls and four brown ceiling fans hang from the ceiling. The restaurant's color scheme is very "latte", as the main colors are white and beige and only one part of the wall is red. Daughter ordered the fried flounder with 2 over easy eggs and grits with wheat bread. She said that the fish was nicely fried and crunchy. It didn't need tartar or cocktail sauce. She said it was her first time eating a breakfast item like this and her taste buds had never felt this sensation before. LOL. Hubs ordered the pinto con chorizo with sunny side up eggs. The server warned him that the sausage was spicy, but he didn't care. When we came here, Hubs didn't expect Hispanic food for brunch and was so surprised and so happy. He found the first item that he can see and translate and was happy he did. The chorizo had a nice spunk to it. He was happy that he got rice and beans instead of home fries and what a delightful change! The chips were also nice and crispy. Lastly, I had waffles with mixed fruit. I LOVED my waffles because it was nice and crunchy. The mixed fruit were bananas, strawberries, grapes and blueberries. They were a nice touch. I was asked if I wanted whipped cream and I said yes. Coffee was freshly brewed and it was nice and strong. It wasn't ordinary diner coffee. Hubs was happy about getting his cup refilled. Service was fast and really friendly. The waiter was always smiling. Parking is street parking. When we were there, it was free parking. Neighborhood was a bit sketchy, though. We were thinking of checking out the flea market across the street but changed our minds. Glad we got to try this place! Maybe one day, we'll be back.

The diner is inside a classic boxcar and not much has changed since opening - which is the way it should stay. The service was great and everyone was friendly and accommodating. We ordered Taylor, ham, egg, and cheese on a roll, two pancakes with scrambled eggs, and the front toast plate that came with eggs and sausage. Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll was standard and good. The French toast was tasty. The pancakes were very, very good. Definitely order these! The diner is no-frills.
