Up in New Jersey again for a wedding, and I rode through my hometown. It wouldn't be a complete trip without a "Jersey breakfast" at the Westfield Diner. The Westfield Diner opened in 1983 when I was away at college in Charlotte. It occupies part of the former Westfield Ford dealership complex, including the area once used for its parts and service operations. To me, the diner is a more-than-40-year-old piece of post-childhood Westfield. Before moving to Raleigh, I returned to the Westfield area and frequented the Westfield Diner. I always find it comforting to walk in and sit at a booth if I am with someone or at the counter if I am alone. This past Sunday, I visited my parents and other relatives at Fairview Cemetery and then went to the diner for brunch. I had to park on Elmer Street and walk down toward North Avenue because the parking lot was filled and overflowing. When I walked in, the line for booths and tables extended outside the door. However, since I was alone, I was able to quickly and easily claim a spot at the counter. My favorite breakfast at a New Jersey diner is two eggs sunny side up with pork roll--aka "Taylor Ham" in Union County and much of north Jersey--home fries, rye toast with grape and/or strawberry jelly, coffee with half & half, and water. For six months before moving to Raleigh, I came here every Saturday, sat at the counter and ate this meal. It is always delicious. I love the way the cooks place the eggs--staring up at you--right on top of the Taylor Ham. The wait staff and hostesses are always very professional, friendly and accommodating. Their hospitality is another quality that makes the experience at the Westfield Diner a real treat. There is also memorabilia from Westfield's past throughout the diner, both on the walls and behind the cashier's counter. The restrooms are always clean and well stocked. I always make sure I visit the Westfield Diner when I am back in the area. It gives me that hometown feeling and provides a place to sit, relax, eat and reconnect with an earlier time. read more

Not annoyed, not apologetic, just like she knew this was the kind of compromise you make when you've given up on things being great. My fiancé and I were getting an oil change and grabbed a meal here to kill some time. We were immediately greeted and sat. I had a hand crafted hot chocolate and 2 over easy eggs with Taylor ham, home fries and white toast. My fiancé did coffee and the crispy chipotle chicken sandwich with fries. The service is so fast. There is something about a good Jersey Diner that hits the spot for me. I came to the Westfield diner for the first time and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the hangover sandwich which was a Taylor Ham, Egg & Cheese Sandwich between French Toast and I got tater tots as my side. I was surprised by the taste because I wouldn't have thought of using French Toast as the bread for the sandwich because when I normally eat French toast it is drenched in syrup but it was delicious and super filling. There are some honorable mentions below in the photos of some of the other dishes that were tried by others I ate out with. From the looks of it everyone enjoyed their food and plates were clean. My wife and I love patronizing diners when visiting any new area. Westfield Diner didn't disappoint! The food was delicious! At first I was going to order breakfast (for dinner), but something kept telling me to get the Fire Gyro. A perfect selection, the meat was so tender and hearty; as was my wife's Cuban sandwich. The Westfield Diner is a typical Jersey diner with a huge menu and large portions. My boyfriend and I had a great dinner last night. We actually shared a hot open turkey with stuffing and potatoes. He wanted a baked potato and I wanted mashed so we ordered a side of mashed. We know their servings are large that's why we shared. I actually should have not gotten the mashed because I didn't even end up eating half of them. Had a Wednesday morning breakfast here and was pleasantly surprised with how my food turned out. I went with a Belgian waffle, eggs and sausage, while my son had chocolate chip pancakes. The Waffles here were cooked well, no sogginess or overburnt spots. The sausage came as thick, short links, and had a great taste for breakfast. Eggs were scrambled and checked the box for being above average. The silver dollar pancakes tasted a bit floury / bland. I was surprised, since they had the chocolate chips in there as well, and on the surface looked tasty. I would not get these again. As diners go, this was a good effort and a solid breakfast. You aren't typically coming to a diner for the high quality service or gourmet pairings, and that definitely rings true here. Nice, local, family-friendly diner with your standard diner fare. At first I thought the menu was pricier than expected until I saw the HUGE portion sizes. The dinner specials are especially worth it - it includes soup/salad, entree (+ some entrees include additional sides), and dessert, which more than comfortably feeds two people. The extensive menu of Westfield Diner leaves the guest with plentiful of options. However, this comes with a cost to quality with some menu items. Nonetheless, I tried the bueno dias platter which was okay since it was a quesadilla with eggs, bacon and cheese. The home fries needed seasoning as they were bland. The blueberry hill pancakes have an interesting description on menu stating the pancakes are topped with egg whites and a beef sausage. The results were blueberry pancakes that were good with a nice strawberry butter, egg whites and a beef sausage on the side. The blueberry hills pancakes were decent pancakes and I enjoyed the strawberry butter. All in all, it's an average diner in my opinion and is worth a try if you are in the immediate area wanting diner food. read more

To me this is the best diner I've ever been to and I've lived in Jersey, the diner capital of the world. I find most diners mediocre and menus have become predictable and boring. But Westfield Diner has an updated and imaginative menu. They have great chicken sandwiches with the chicken bulging out of the tasty bread and they have awesome sauces to go with them. Their salads are so good. My fave is the Cape May Salad with the best seasoned grilled shrimp, bacon, and so many other ingredients that I love. They use lettuces that you'd find in more upscale places such as kale and arugula and baby greens as opposed to the usual iceberg or romaine you find at other diners. The diner also has your creature comforts like open Turks with gravy and mashed, roast beef dinner and the like. I'm not a soup person but I've tried them and they're yum. They have really special specials such as goulash and a lovely salmon, chicken parm, delicious authentic Greek dishes. It's just a great place. Don't get me started on desserts. They have their own baker and he is really really good. I've never had a better cheesecake in my life whether it be plain or their absolutely phenomenal peanut butter cheesecake. To die for. Service is quick, friendly and on point. They are organized from owner to manager to workers. Once you come in for a second time they know you and give you a great smile. Yes, it is expensive. The gyro place where we live closed and we heard the chef came to this location so of course we came here on a Sunday afternoon to try it and they did not disappoint! We were worried we'd have to wait for seating since there was a line similar to IHOP for Sunday brunch but we were seated immediately in a booth. The diner was busy and all seats were filled. Visited with a friend for breakfast on a very quiet Monday morning. It had been 6 years since my last visit. There are a lot of diners in the area so there is competition. We were greeted very warmly upon our entry. Before we even sat down, the waitress asked us if we wanted coffee. Yes, of course. I ordered the multigrain French toast with chicken sausage and my friend ordered the regular French toast. Our orders came out in a timely fashion as you would expect in a diner. My friend's French toast consisted of three thick brioche slices and mine was three thinner slices since it was multigrain bread. Chicken sausage consisted of 4 small thin links. Coffee was ok. It took them 30 minutes to seat us even after they said that they just needed a second to do something and then we waited 10 minutes to get our menus and the only way we got our menus were after I called over two people and requested some. Then there was also the fact that there was only 4 water when we had five people and the seats were plastic and there was only napkins and forks + knives for 4 people but our waiter was really nice and helped us.
