Was here about 4 years ago and service was terrible , was in town once again and decided to give another try , well well it was even worse than the first time . Sat at the bar and had to basically wave to the bartender to get a drink ( the bar was basically empty ) . After a while she hands us our beer and never offers a menu or anything , we sat there for 45 minutes and no one asked if we needed another drink or food . TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE . Then we asked for the bill and they charged us $10 for two beers , a bit overpriced . Not to mention they never gave us our change , they just assumed to keep everything . Just horrible and we will definitely NOT GO BACK . Look for better options but don't waste your time on this place

The Beer Burger is amazing. Cheddar cheese, bacon, onions, pickles, and the juicy burger... delicious even medium well! Service was a bit hit and miss while they were busy, so we had to flag them down periodically, but they didn't try to rush us out. Will be back for this burger once my arteries are clearer... Parked at the train station lot for free since it was after 6p.

Love the wings here and they make the drinks perfect! I went during a happy hour- If you haven't been to Maplewood, you'll see how cozy of a town that is and this place is located in the heart of it all! It's also close to the train station. One thing is they don't have parking, but you'll find some street parking around the area.

Solo lunch on a cold winter Saturday. Decent selection of beers but only 2 IPAs. I was craving a burger so went with the Classic American burger. It was just okay. The burger patties were dry which was disappointing. The Mac sauce that came on the side helped a little but still left much to be desired for the burger overall. The fries were excellent though - crispy and the "fresh cut" fries I typically like. I had been eyeing the short rib grilled cheese on the menu so would prob try that next time. Service was friendly and attentive enough, no complaints.

The liquor was tequila. On a Monday? Smh.

One thing about my cousin - if you tell her you're in her town she will make a plan to meet up ASAP. That's how I keep Christopher Columbusing all these restaurants I write about so I'm not mad at all. I was in West Orange and she was in Montclair so we met in the middle at Coda. Parking was a breeze! I walked right in and sat at the bar while I waited. The bartender was friendly and asked me if I had tried the Pumking (my fave) in a glass rimmed with pumpkin spice. I finished up my beer just as my cousins arrived and we sat at a table. Highlights: The menu - everything from burgers and wings to southern comforts and cocktails. Seating: bar stools were wooden yet sturdy. Tables had bench seating with supportive backs. Ozempic where?! Wegovy who?! Let me fat comfortably in peace please. Service: our server made great recommendations for her top 3 items. I ended up ordering the burger she suggested and will now make her beneficiary of my insurance policy because woo it was outstanding! Drinks: curated selection of craft beers, fantastic cocktails. Our order: I got their version of an upscale Big Mac with sweet potato fries. Cousin 1 got truffle fries and a salmon salad. Cousin 2 got shrimp baos. There were 3 to an order and they were huge and stuffed to the brim! Bill was knocking on $200 but we also drank. Teehee. If I lived in the area this would be one of my spots. Maplewood is a cute town!

***4 1/2 stars*** It's been ages since I've been to Maplewood (literally the last time was to see Jobs with Michael Fassbender in theaters, which was in 2015), but the minute I got to the downtown area I remembered how insane the parking/driving situation is over here. Weird one-way parking spots, yet two-way streets, and obviously the fact that it was two days before Christmas on a Saturday wasn't ideal. Since I didn't feel like being a creepy parking vulture, I just drove straight through the chaos and parked a few blocks away in a residential area. No drama, more Fitbit steps. Coda was easy to find despite numerous businesses in the area - prominent signage right in the middle of everything. This is my kind of place, with an edgy/dark interior and gastropub vibes. Despite that, I actually saw a ton of families in there, though Coda doesn't scream kid friendly (not anti though, necessarily). My chum and I secured a high top table in the front bar area right next to the window, which allowed for some primo canine viewing, most of whom were appropriately decked out in knitted sweaters. Tis the season. I didn't have to browse the brunch menu for very long, and decided on literally the first item right at the top, which was a pretty classic breakfast sandwich featuring egg (sunny-side up for me), cheese, bacon and my favorite bread-like accompaniment, the almighty biscuit. It was very good, though the biscuit was on the drier side (which, coupled with its crumbly nature, is probably why most people don't go down that road). Everything else on the sandwich was top notch. The roasted potatoes were actually TOO seasoned for me, which is a rarity; it drowned out the actual potato. It was also cooked with onion, so they basically doubled down on the flavoring - I would just cut one of those out, and I think they'd be good. The service was excellent. The place was decently packed and yet our waitress somehow found the time to stop by very regularly and chat for a minute or two each time. Super personable and friendly, and was honestly one of the most pleasant people I interacted with this year in a restaurant (and that's saying something). Unquestionably improved the experience. My only reluctance to coming back is that nutty downtown area, but I'm not going to blame Coda for that - strong recommend.

On my second visit, I tried the blackened shrimp and corn cakes, and that dish alone inspired me to finally leave a review. Every ingredient was so vibrant and delightful, with flavors that complimented each other beautifully. The sweet corn cakes combined with the heat of the shrimp and the creamy avocado were perfect. The various textures made each bite even better. My friend also loved the american waygu burger. The place was pretty packed around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, but service was still pretty quick. My nephew who lives nearby treated us to an al fresco meal recently while visiting for a family event. My pulled pork smashed burger was everything you want in a packed meat sandwich, with an onion ring and tangy sauce on the brioche bun. The sweet potato fries and a refreshing mocktail to drink made for a perfect meal. Sweetie ate a pasta bolognese (I think) which looked and ate good, and drowned it with a nice glass of red wine. It was packed on the Friday night we visited, with folks lined up for seating, or to hang at the bar and enjoy the bar scene. No reservations. Our late dinner worked fine as the mostly millennial and Gen-Z crowd started thinning shortly after we arrived. Millburn has always been a draw for neighboring townsfolk in search of a meal out. I remember this foodie town from 25 years ago, when its pizza, kosher and diner offerings were top notch. It seems to have upgraded its food scene several notches since my last visit so many years ago. Pure nostalgia for me which made for a very flavorful evening. TOP TIP: Street parking in this part of town is a hassle and the local cops keep a sharp eye for illegally parked cars and inebriated drivers. So park further away from the center of town where you are more likely to snag a legal spot on a busy night.

The Garlic Knots are so delicious; the knots are so fluffy and soft though firm like chewing savory (more so texture wise) cotton candy that does not dissolve. With every bite, flavoring seems to improve, especially with the soft though thicker than thinner more savory than sweet tomatoe-ish sauce. From my order experience, the mozzarella after flavor lingers with the garlic after flavor for about 30 and 40 hours. Yum, though I prefer the garlic more so than the mozzarella, all quite tasty. The establishment accepts different forms of payment. The establishment connects with a neighboring eatery, by way of a mid way pass, and both establishments offer different selections. The chicken parm was pounded thin and delicious, and the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage came with a massive portion. Also an honorable mention for the bread basket which was overflowing with fresh and hot seasoned bread. Service was speedy and friendly, holiday decor was cute and there is a full bar. In fact, this time it looks to be a literal home. We stopped by last night to watch my beloved Gonzaga Bulldogs end their tournament run against Purdue. I could go into quite a bit of detail about some very shady calls in the paint and what I think should have been a taunting foul on Purdue's future proctologist Fletcher Loyer, but I digress. As soon as I walked in, I could tell I was going to like it. Prior years have been marred by loud sports bar atmospheres where you have to battle tooth and nail to convince someone to change the channel to something that isn't a mediocre NYC-area sports team (I say this as a Mets fan as well). Liberty was significantly quieter, definitely had an older crowd but also had numerous TVs throughout. The best of all worlds. I walked maybe 10 feet from the entrance, asked the bartender if she could switch the TV to the Zags on TBS, and that was that. Aside from a weird moment in the second half when the TV mysteriously changed to ESPN for a few minutes (we never confirmed the culprit), we had primo viewing of the game. Somehow we also managed to sit down next to a couple whose son was currently at Purdue. What a world. Vibe is everything with a place like this. I did a mild double-take when I realized the bar was located in a literal residential neighborhood in what may be someone's actual house (or at least upstairs). There's a parking lot on the side that had plenty of spots, and overall this was one of the most conveniently located establishments I've ever been to - it's about 30 seconds from Route 78 both ways. Initially I felt bad for the neighbors, but as bars go this is not exactly one that's going to be hosting raucous throwdowns outside or anything. You may actually be able to go to bed at 9pm living next door, which is my personal dream. The interior has a lot of tchotchkes behind the bar, and is surprisingly comfortable/spacious. The game started a little after 7:30pm on a Friday, but there were seats available right in front of the TVs and most of the patrons seemed to be in the back area playing pool. It did get a little more crowded throughout the game, but never to a point where it felt claustrophobic. The clientele demo skewed all over the place - several older codgers looked like they'd been rejected from Rock of Love Charm School (I thought one in particular was a dead ringer for Poison's CC DeVille), but there was also a few young men roaming around and middle-aged couples/singles throughout the establishment as well. Pretty much anyone who would theoretically come into a bar, did. We had a good bartender, who not only accommodated my TV request, but was friendly and accessible throughout our stay. I was in a sweet palate mood, and she offered to make a Hawaiian Volcano, apparently a drink pilfered from her days at TGI Friday's years ago. It's not something I'd necessarily get on a regular basis, but it definitely brought me back to my early legal drinking years for sure. I could taste some Malibu and juice, and sipped them throughout the game. We also got mozzy sticks and a pepperoni bar pie. Both were really decent for what they were, especially the mozzy sticks, which were fried perfectly. I thought the pizza tasted like a giant Bagel Bite, which is not an insult. But let's be clear - this is a dive bar, so it's not like you're wandering into the kitchen and stumbling across Jeremy Allen White from The Bear. You want something fairly tasty to munch on, and we got it. Strong recommend. I think expectations for a dive bar should be pretty simple - comfortable and pleasant. This was certainly that, minus the March Madness heartbreak.

Everything in my previous review still stands - it's still an interesting hybrid of family restaurant, sport bar and lounge. Since my previous review I've had some of the food and it's as expected - average to a bit below average fitting for how I viewed the place before having food. I've managed to try a burger here and was disappointed. I asked for medium-well, it was beyond well done. Dry and not very well seasoned at that. The fries were unacceptable. Plentiful but I'm almost positive these are Ore-Ida frozen fries. The bar pie was also pretty sad. It's about 4 medium slices of thin crust pizza with average sauce flavor. It seemed a bit burnt. I also got a plate of buffalo wings to share with my buddies. Again average. It wouldn't be so bad but the prices are pretty high. All of the things I've tried were $15+ and they ranged from not good to average.
