Came here for breakfast with family on a saturday morning. It was relatively empty so we were seated right away. Our server, Tina, was really nice especially with my niece. She gave her a picture and crayons to color. There was quite a bit of a wait for our food. But the food was good and were nice portions. They have a parking lot specifically for the diner. The staff was kind and helpful. I wouldn't mind getting breakfast here again. I would suggest you just order ahead & do take out if you're in a rush. read more

This spot has been around for many many years and it was a nice go to on a Sunday morning. Things have changed ! The staff is unorganized and scrambling around. It took us awhile to just receive a menu. Our waiter was just standing around browsing his phone . I ordered a steak & avocado skillet . The steak was super tough and un edible. This is an awful diner. We have ordered takeout from here whenever we aren't in the mood for much and just want something basic. The food is consistently lackluster, but edible. Today, however, was the final straw. I ordered the chicken Philly cheesesteak wrap, hold the peppers and NO SIDE OF FRIES; they are always undercooked and terrible and just go straight in the trash. Of course, the (extremely greasy) wrap was full of green peppers (an unholy act for a PHILLY cheesesteak plus I despise green bell peppers) and there's a big pile of gross halfway-cooked fries I didn't want. But it gets worse. My partner's Taylor Ham and egg burger.... wanna guess? ... was just a grilled burger patty with cheese on a bun. No Taylor ham, no fried egg. The lettuce and tomato was wrapped separately in tin foil, so at least they gave him something to put on the burger. There was also a separately-wrapped pickle, but he didn't get his side of cole slaw at all. Looking at that sad display, I said never again. I'd rather eat taquitos and dried-up pizza slices from under the heat lap at a 7-11 before eating from the Maplewood Diner again. read more

Horrible service. Sat down and ordered a chicken cheesesteak and a water, and waited about 30 minutes just for the water. Then I waited about another 10 minutes for my food which was wrong anyway. It was a regular cheesesteak, and I ordered chicken. So in total I waited about 40 minutes for a wrong order which was horrible. Would not recommend this place to anybody. read more

Came here late night and as expected it was empty. The waitresses on duty were really friendly and expectedly were pretty attentive since it was pretty dead, except for a few straggler other patrons coming in for small orders. I got two shakes, a vanilla and then a strawberry and neither of them were stellar. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt since it is a diner and have heard that of the three diners in Maplewood (the other two being Parkwood and Maple Leaf) this is the lesser of the 3. The Vanilla shake was alright and the strawberry one was just eh. The cherries were a nice touch but they were those kind out of a jar were also eh, but did make for nice presentation. My biggest gripe is I found that for how the milkshakes were, and at a diner they were a bit expensive. About $5 bucks each I find that a bit high especially since I've had much better and cheaper at other restaurants and diners. Perhaps I'll find myself here again, but I think I'll skip the milkshakes and try the other usual diner fare. read more

Called in to get homefries with onions and peppers this morning ... menu says $3.95 got there and was charged $5.57 ... for just homefries ... apparently onions and peppers are extra. Extra is ok but $6 for just homefries? Not even a sausage added in? No ma'am. I've been here several times they are really over priced.. the food is just ok. Pros: Waitresses are very nice. Place is clean. Never crowded. That's it... Update: I keep trying to give this place a chance but hell no.. overpriced as hell!!!! This half containehour of homefries was $6. Are you serious?!! We paid approximately $80 for food we had to throw away! It was horrible. The steak was leather and the shrimp were old. This is our third try with them. Only 1 meal was decent. Our food took almost over 30 minutes to get to us, and then when it finally came, all of the food was mid or somewhat cold. The server told the hostess to move us closer to their other tables because they didn't feel like walking over, which would have been fine if that was the only issue. But then when we were sat she didn't take our order for a bit and then told us they didn't have Lemonade or Milkshakes when they did but she didn't feel like making them. Stopped here for coffee with one of the kids in the morning, while in the neighborhood. Very clean, pleasant and efficient servers, excellent coffee. I had one of the breakfast specials - "eggs over easy" with sausages and whole wheat toast, for about $8.00 (including coffee)! Everything was cooked perfectly and the sausages were delicious! Juicy, with a great crunch as I cut into them (two good size links). The kid had fried eggs with bacon on a roll - and he seemed to have enjoyed it as well. I came here with a very large group, 20+ the staff handled everyone's order appropriately and given the party size the food came out in a timely fashion. This diner is absolutely disgusting. Seems like this place only allows certain people to eat here. Myself and some friends came by at midnight to eat (they close at 3 am on Saturdays) and they refused to let us in. Saying they were closed. Meanwhile, the sign says open, people are walking in and out but they refused to serve us for absolutely no reason. Extremely rude people. read more

The man who answered asked me what I wanted to do about it. I couldn't drive there to get a new order, although would I want a new sandwich, nor did they have anyone to deliver it. He basically told me to contact Uber. There was no apology for this disgusting piece of human dna in my food, nothing complimentary, nothing. Just pushed me off on Uber and hung up. I know saying there I hair in your food can be cliche but when there is ACTUAL HAIR IN YOUR FOOD, you should do something about it! Not push it off on UBER EATS! When we first arrived to the diner, we were a little hesitant about the surrounding area, but don't be fooled. Upon entry we were greeted spectacularly to where our hesitations were dismissed. We were quickly seated and serviced throughout the entire dining experience. We ordered the coconut shrimp, the grand slam, and chicken Marsala with cream of mushroom soup. Our server initially forgot to place our order for coconut shrimp but quickly apologized and brought it out promptly when we noticed, dismissing any further wait time. The grand slam was as perfect as breakfast can be. The pancakes were the star of the show. Fluffy, sweet, moist and delicious. The cream of mushroom soup was savory and delectable. The coconut shrimp was very different than any other I've had in the past, but the wonderful taste lies within its individuality. It was absolutely delicious. The chicken Marsala tasted a little bit too heavy on the tomato sauce. I would've enjoyed more diversity with the flavors, but overall the portion size was very good for the price. I would definitely visit this place again, especially for the breakfast or just late night vibes. read more

Loved the egg white veggie omelet. Massive portions. The potatoes were excellent which is a rare find lately. (They do use green peppers on their home fries). Recently my friends and I were looking for some late night dining, and when we rolled up to the joint the doors were open, the lights were off, and Seindfield was playing sound on and all. If I could give this place a lower rating I would. The place was virtually empty, maybe two other tables of 4-5 people. They had two wait staff plus a bus person and unknown number of kitchen help. Service was appalling it took almost 15 minutes for the wait staff to take our order. Then came the incredible wait for our food. It took over 30 minutes for it to emerge from the kitchen. There were just a few more problems, the toast order had a very short acquaintance with the toaster, the food was, at best tepid and lastly, what was placed in front of each of us, was not what was ordered. Each of the egg dishes called for a different kind of cheese, but I guess American Cheese was all that the kitchen had. I was in the area with a co-worker during lunch hour and decided to stop in. After all, it's a diner. We'll be back on the road in no time at all. WOW! This was a very large diner and it was 95 percent empty at lunch time. That should have been our signal. The service started out as routine and then it disappeared on us. I ordered the Roast beef club which came with fries and my co-worker ordered the chicken panini which also came with fries. We waited 45 minutes for our meals to come out. We also noticed that the few tables in the restaurant that had customers had no food on their tables either. The meals came out in the order you arrived at the diner. We saw people who arrived much earlier than us slowly getting their meals and then realized who we came after. I felt bad for the waitresses because it wasn't their fault. The kitchen was ridiculously slow. They did a lot of apologizing. We also noticed that the entire time we arrived and waited for our food, not one customer came in after us to eat. There was a gentlemen dressed like a construction worker, i.e. baggie jeans, boots, flannel shirt, who came by our table and asked if everything was ok. It turns out he was the manager. I thought he was going to sell us a CD. He needed to dress more like an authority figure. My co-workers meal was very greasy considering it was a chicken panini. My club was good but the fries were greasy. This place has potential. It was very clean. The bathrooms were clean and updated. The booths were all new and the tables had granite countertops. The prices were reasonable. However, when you have NJ Transit headquarters across the street from you and there is not one employee there during lunch hour, that's another sign.
