Now don't go thinking along the lines of "Ritz - Carlton" NO, it's more like "Ritz Crackers" and your lowered expectations should be just fine here. LOL. Seriously though I can honestly say that Breakfast is stellar at the "Ritz" and I couldn't have been more satisfied with everything about my delicious meal: Ham and Cheese Omelette, Home Fries, Rye Toast, and a Bottomless cup of Coffee for the Win. Service here was on point too, with only one server on duty she still had every table covered plus Coffee refills always at the ready. That's a Freakin Rockstar Server as far as I'm concerned. Yeah now that's bringing the "Ritz-Carlton" type of attitude people. Anyway I Came, I Ate, I Wrote, and Left A Big Tip, Support Your Local Businesses!! Come And Get Your Munch On!! read more

Ritz Diner - Shake Hands with Ham & Cheese Omelette, Home Fries, Rye Toast, Bottomless Coffee FTW!! - Diners Near Me - Livingston, New Jersey

This place used to be amazing, but it's really gone down hill. I went here and had a grilled cheese with french fries. The grilled cheese was fine, but the fries were really mid. They also charged us separately for the fries. It was over $40 with tip for two grilled cheeses and fries and a cup of coffee. I think they have a lot of nerve to charge that much. I also used to love their Szechuan chicken and vegetables when I ate meat, but my mom had it recently and the price was ridiculous and didn't taste as good. I'm really disappointed, and I hope they'll do a better job with the food and price point. Also, the service was mid. Sorry to leave such a poor review, I used to love this place. read more

We driving through Livingston still in a breakfast mood stopped at the Ritz. Well ran place and great service. Hats off to the waiter who helped is. The food. I had the gyro wrap it was loaded with avocados and favor. I really enjoyed it. And the fries were hot out of fryer and lightly seasoned. Yum. Haven't had for a while outside the house. ( my wife makes good fries. ) Overall it was worth the drive. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch with another family and really enjoyed the food. This old-school diner has a great atmosphere for larger groups, especially families, and the menu is huge. We ordered the corned beef hash, chocolate chip pancakes, and French toast, and everything was flavorful and delicious. I'm pretty picky about pancakes and French toast, but I was very happy with both here. The service was excellent too--our waitress was so warm and friendly. read more

This place is not good. The food is overpriced, and the place smells like the old diner that it is.

My first time at this diner. I have not been back to NJ in 10 years and wanted to hit a diner. So we decided this was the place and we were not disappointed. I ordered the western omelette. It came with toast and hash browns. They give you a good portion for $10 plus coffee with it. They had an extensive menu. Something for everyone Zero complaints. The waitresses dressed as you would expect from jersey. It was all good and I would recommend stopping at the Ritz diner. read more

A local diner that had been there for years! IT is inherently a part of the greater LIVINGSTON community. My children & I dined there often and what you get besides good reliable meals & service is the feeling of being surrounded by the pulse of this lovely community. Kids traditionally pack the place on opening nights after LHS Theatre performances... or friends reunite there with other frequently.., or just drop in for matzah ball soup ( the best!) Either way it's a great place to gather w/ the rest of the folks that make up this wonderful town! Even after you move away, you always return to The Ritz to get a taste of home. read more

Since my last review years ago, Ritz has really improved in the past 2 years and has been consistently good. Just wish they were open an hour later especially on Fridays. Great weekday morning breakfast specials. Basically cheaper than making eggs at home. The chicken Francaise is better than most Italian restaurants in the area - No Joking. Enough for 2 people easily. I typically pack up half and make it into a delicious chicken Francaise sandwich for the next days lunch. Oh, it comes with a salad too. Not sure what brand creamy Italian they use, but it's soooo good. Order this without hesitation. read more

Been here for breakfast many times and have always been happy here. We ordered for dinner and was extremely satisfied. I got the chilli burger deluxe with fries. Burger was cooked perfectly medium rare and was delicious. My Daughter had the chopped salad and M&M pancakes which she loved. Her BF had deluxe bacon cheeseburger with fried mozzarella sticks. He loved it. My Wife got a Greek salad and liked it. The fries were yummy and crispy despite it being takeout. I'd come here for dinner again for sure. read more

very disappointed in the Ritz diner. We have been going there for 40 plus years. Used to be top quality diner. Today however, will be our last time, I ordered brisket with potato, pancake pancakes, the brisket was tender, but gray, the pancakes were super greasy and old, the applesauce it came with was BAD, my mother ordered the chopped chicken liver platter which was terrible. The potato was WARM on. 110 degree day, and the chicken liver was terrible. sorry to say don't waste your money at this diner any longer. read more

We stopped by for breakfast because we wanted a change of pace. It wasn't full yet so we were able to be seated right away. Our server came right away to get our drinks and have us a few minutes to look at the menu. She was friendly. The food was good. I had the traditional two eggs over hard with pork sausage and white toast and orange juice. I will come back if I want diner food. Overall it was good read more

The BEST Diner in New Jersey. Everything I have ever ordered, whether eat-in or to go, is fresh as if you made it yourself at home. Their Szechuan Chicken, Turkey Dinner, Turkey Club, Potato Pancakes, Baked Clams, Rice Pudding, and Carrot Cake are just some of the classics I have had eaten through the years and they are consistently delicious! Look forward to every trip to the Ritz Diner!!! read more

Wow the reviews are terrible. Why? I haven't been here since I was a child and honestly it was a great brunch! Marion the owner is a sweetheart and our service was awesome! Couldn't have been nicer. They have plenty of tables and booths. Everyone enjoyed! Tried the Marion salad (excellent!!) and The Ritz chicken sandwich. SO good. Classic diner and for all those who had an awful experience, go back and give them a shot to make it right. :) read more

Worst eggs benedict I've ever had. And it was $19. No salt or pepper on any other food. Was extremely bland. Did not receive my extra Hollandaise sauce and I'm glad I didn't because it was broken. I don't mind paying a little extra for food when it's good, but this was totally not worth it. I can't believe you have even a 2.6 rating. You're 3.9 rating on Google is generous. Definitely contacting triple D. Hopefully they revisit and see what you become. Food is way too expensive for the quality. read more

So the problem with my review is I always order the Marion Salad for lunch. Last time I went with a friend and the place was really crowded for a Tuesday lunch. My friend mentioned this to the waitress who said, "Marion Salad." Now my friend didn't order a Marion salad and liked her meal but after that we saw at least half the orders were Marion Salads. Service is fine. Ambiance? It's a traditional diner. I am sure the other food is good but try the Marion salad. read more

I recommend the ritz diner because they are a very classic diner but their food is decent. Their chicken nuggets and French fries are good for kids and they come with a drink. Haven't been here more than a decade and, happily, not much has changed. It looks a little brighter and the menu may have been updated but the food remains reliably delicious. Lunchtime is normally a tough time to come but it wasn't crowded. One would think a positive result would be faster service but that was not the case. Our friendly server came over took our drink order. She promptly returned and took our food order. Twenty minutes later, we flagged her down to acquire about our meal status. She said they were cooking the gyro meat. Huh? That was a new one on us. When our food eventually came, we were informed they were cooking fresh french fries. We're always up for screaming hot fries but why didn't they come with our sandwiches? None of this made any sense. We were halfway through our sandwiches before the fries came; and someone else brought them. Sigh. We never saw our server to ask for more napkins or drink refills so we caught amazing Alex's attention. He refilled our drinks and brought more napkins. Some time later, our server checked back twice in about two minutes, halfway through our meal. She was fairly useless on a non-busy day. It should be noted I've written this entire review while waiting for our check. Alex brought "to go" cups and a box for leftovers. Still no server in sight. The Ritz remains a favorite because of the food. It is unfathomable how the service could have been so dreadful. The food deserves 10 stars. So does Alex The service deserves -7. We settled on Three Stars and it was painful. 15 minutes later, no server or check. We will pay upfront. read more

I am working in Livingston and I really wanted a soup and grilled cheese because I am not feeling well. I checked Yelp and saw Ritz's Diner and I thought perfect. Read some negative reviews saying how rude they are but decided to call anyway. I called to ask what soup they had. "Hello. Do you have any soup?" Old woman answered the phone and said very rudely, "Why wouldn't we have soup? We always have soup...". She just lost a customer without me even entering the diner. So rude. Just to be clear, I WILL NEVER GOT TO RITZ DINER in Livinston!! No stars!! read more

Service was great, but the food was not it good especially the lamb shank it tasted and looked frozen then microwaved.

OUTDOOR DINING REVIEW: This is my second time going out to eat since restaurants have allowed outdoor dining, but not my first time at the Ritz. It get s a 4-star rating from me for its breakfast served amidst the current public health situation. I can't speak to the rest of the menu because I only go here with my breakfast buddy early mornings. I think the last time I got something in the PM hours was maybe twenty years ago in high school - those canton wings something or other. Takeaway - Breakfast is the reason to go to Ritz Diner. The diner has set up a giant patio tent on one side of the property, with about maybe about 12 reasonably-spaced out tables (some seat 2, some can seat 4). So when going there, there is now only one entrance to park on the property because the outdoor eating patio area blocks off the normally one-way entrance where you would drive up. My friend and I went to the Ritz this morning for breakfast. We walked up to the tent and took a seat at one of the tables after one of the servers said we could sit wherever we'd like. There were two people working the tables outside, and a person manning the register inside (you still pay inside at the register, or at least we did, if you're using a card not cash). My friend would attest that Ritz never fails with breakfast, and the home fries are the best. I was happy with what I ordered, which was a lox and onion omelette, no home fries but rye toast with butter, and a side of sausage. It's my thing right now. Overall, we had a good outdoor dining breakfast experience at Ritz Diner. read more

The Ritz is good. Yeah, it's average food. It's a diner. Yes, the workers are disgruntled. It's a diner in New Jersey. People have super high expectations for certain places. You have to know what to order. Can't go wrong with a sandwich or burger or diner classics like disco fries. I wouldn't get dinner entrees here except for the pierogis which are very good. Diners are usually not a 5 star experience. You go there when you need food, don't want to cook, but also don't want to spend a fortune. The Ritz does the job. read more

Adequate. When you enter and look at the menu, you take a step back in time into what seems like a New Jersey diner in the 1960s. Unfortunately, the food isn't as good as it was then. Excellent Diner with very good food and wow bakery, best Apple pie and Challah. Great breakfast and lunch. My husband and I had lunch here today. we've been going here on and off for many years. The food is consistently good and always freshly prepared. The biggest issue is it's really not handicapped accessible. Theres a ramp? But the bathrooms are the size of airline stalls. Very small and extremely dated. Note to management: Gut the restrooms and update them. You'll have more tables filled than orders being taken out. read more

I had not been to this diner for awhile, but I remember their salmon burger. For $3 more the deluxe includes french fries and lettuce and tomatoes. I asked for crispy fries, but I also got crispy salmon burger. The tomatoe slices were soggy. My friend had fresh grilled chicken slices over salad. We both a beverage. With tax and tip it came out to $50. Lunch is not cheap. The waiter seemed new, but did his job well. I have dined in this diner since 1968 when it was the Heritage Diner. The crowd for lunch today smaller than in the past. Maybe people are away for summer vacation. read more

My wife and I stopped in there the other day because we were in the area and remembered it as a good place to eat. Wow have things changed! My wife ordered a bowl of matzo ball soup and I ordered pancakes. Should be easy, right? Apparently, not to this place! We waited for over 45 minutes. After watching our waitress walk back and forth without ever coming back to us, I approached her and asked why it was taking so long. With an obnoxious sneer, she said it's the pancakes. She then said they only have one grill so it takes a long time to get them. When I suggested to our waitress that she might have let us know before turning our order in to the kitchen, she had nothing to say and had the same annoying expression on her face. When we finally got our food, my pancakes were probably the worst I have ever had. I ate less than half of them. When the waitress finally came back and asked how everything was, I told her what I thought of the pancakes. Again, nothing to say. There are plenty of quality restaurants around. This is no longer one of them. We won't be returning! read more

Came here on a recent stint of Triple D locations in New Jersey. Wasn't sure what the place was known for off the bat but read it was apple pie, so had to improvise for my breakfast. I passed on the Corned Beef and hash after seeing some yelp photos so decided the German Apple Pancake would be the closest bet. It did not disappoint. This open faced creation was enormous. I could only get through half of it, so definitely something you could split unless you have the inability to share. I also had a side of the pork roll. I don't know why, but always something I have to get while I am in New Jersey. Nice fresh sizzle to it, overall the breakfast was more than filling, and not my typical diner experience. Coffee was decent. Wait staff was fine as well. read more

Ritz Diner - German apple pancake - Diners Near Me - Livingston, New Jersey

It has been a while. But I have been dining at the Ritz off and on for over 30 years. We found ourselves in the area and decided to drop in. The first thing we noted were the prices. Holy mackerel. Very high for a diner. There were quite a few entrees priced in the upper 20's to low 30's. Plus, even with that pricing sides such as veggies and potatoes are extra. Basic items like sandwiches average around $15., burgers around $12. and fries are not included. The Ritz kind of specializes in Jewish fare so my wife and I each ordered a bowl of matzah ball soup which was pretty decent. Tasty well made ball along with egg noodles in a light, clear chicken broth. Given the prices we decided to split a corned beef Reuben. The corned beef was delicious. Seemed to be house made. Way better than the pre packaged stuff most diners offer and kinda worth the $16. price tag. The service was a bit inattentive. The decor is dated and a bit run down, but that's ok. It adds some character. I wouldn't go out of my way but if I find myself in the neighborhood I would drop in again for sure. read more

When they say they close at 8, they mean they lock the doors and go home at 8, and if you come in at 720 looking for dinner, they will make you feel WILDLY uncomfortable the whole time you are there. Lady at the register was unpleasant when we walked in, but we sat anyway, since we figured we had enough time. 40 minutes did not seem unreasonable but boy were we wrong. We were one of 2 tables occupied, but food took a while, and then while we were eating, we heard the woman at the register speaking about us, saying she didn't understand why we'd sit down since she told us they close at 8, never nice to hear yourself being talked about while you're just trying to eat a sandwich. We ended up feeling so uncomfortable and so pressured to get out of there that we only ate half of our meals and packed the rest up to go so we could get the heck out. Our waitress was nice, pretty sure she could sense the tension and was trying to compensate. It's a shame that the atmosphere here is so weird and hostile, because the food was delicious. read more

Really Ritz !? Totally frustrating and disappointing - ugh again ! Livingston deserves better ! 100% Once again we ordered pick up and when we got home our order was incomplete. (Not an issue bc we are all human and make mistakes) However - when we called to nicely explain that we received an incomplete/wrong order and can't eat the meal without the missing ingredients - Ritz's response was not an apology or a quick fix, but instead they asked us "to mention our issue next time we come in"... ?! I'm sorry, but how is that helpful when we can't eat the meal we just bought?! Thanks Ritz - but we don't want tonight's dinner another time. - most restaurants will offer reasonable options such as fixing an incorrect order ASAP, making another order, or giving reimbursement - but not The Ritz ! Do yourself a favor - spend your $$$ at the 10000 other places in Jersey where the owners aren't rude and do appreciate your money, time and the years you spend at their restaurants. read more
