We stopped here on the way home from MA to PA because I searched for an added stop in Google. We weren't sure about it at first because the parking lot only had a few cars , but then again, it was 2:15pm. We were greeted warmly by Tony and one other gentleman and seated in a comfortable booth. Our server, Tony, was friendly, helpful , and obviously cares about their customers happiness with their service. There was a great variety of food available on the menu, and the prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. I highly recommend this diner if you are passing through the area . read more

The Montville diner seems like it may be a sinking ship. The overall look is a bit dated. The upholstery in our booth was tattered and torn. My wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich for $7.00 which is a pretty good value by today's standards. Problem is that she also ordered a side salad for $9.00 which was a bit of a rip off. The salad consisted of some iceberg lettuce, three cherry tomatoes and a couple chunks of cucumber. It really should have been priced between $3.50 to $5.00. I ordered a tuna wrap priced at $14.95 which is about the going rate. However, it was literally half the size and weight of tuna wraps from other diners in the area making it a poor value. It was served with a side of Cole slaw which was terrible. I think it was spoiled. The service was fair at best. It is doubtful that we will return. read more

On our way home from some business in Wayne NJ and I decided to take Rt 46 instead of the interstate to find a place for lunch. I saw the Montville Diner and pulled into their parking lot. We were immediately seated in their clean, orderly dining room. Our server, Tony, took our order and tended to my wife's dietary needs. With in minutes refreshing cold drinks are in front of us and a few minutes later our food arrives. Televisions are showing sports as I am enjoying Montville Diner's version of a cheesesteak sub. My wife enjoyed her chicken salad. The service we received was first rate. Tony could work at any Michelin five star restaurant so I hope he is appreciated. I only had a few minutes to grab something to shove in My face and was in this area so I decided to stop by and order a breakfast sandwich to-go and I'm glad I did because it was amazingly delicious and filling. Can't ever go wrong with a Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese on a Roll with extra Meat added, "they" say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I'm not really sure who "they" are but "they" definitely know what "they're" talking about. Now years ago I also remember stopping in here a few times long before this app even existed or at least long before I knew Yelp existed I should say, but whatever I'm here now and that's all that really matters.   Anyway getting back to the Montville Diner I've always liked this spot and I seriously have to make it a regular stop whenever I'm over this way. This diner is a great place for a late night snack. I came here with a large party of 8 after the Montville Fireworks and the staff were very accommodating. The diner is very big with many seats. I ordered disco fries because I wasn't too hungry. The portions they give a very big-- I was not able to finish my disco fries and needed help from my friends. The disco fries was covered in Mozzarella cheese and gravy at the bottom. It was very delicious, but can get a bit too salty to eat after a while. Solid diner, friendly service from Jessie. Egg dishes are always a good choice- the home fries are pretty good. I have enjoyed the broiled scrod on a few occasions. This was my first visit to Montville Diner. It was a Sunday at 10:30am. I was seated where I ordered a House Club sandwich with Corned Beef and Pastrami along with fries. I instantly regretted my decision only because of my diet. I enjoyed my meal while listening to Lionel Ritchie and watching Quick Draw lottery numbers. Not all the ingredients are listed on the menu but this hot concoction was awesome. Fries were fluffy which I prefer. Went there today against my better judgement but it was 4 o'clock I hadn't eaten anything all day and there was a traffic backup so thought I'd grab something small since dinner wasn't to far off. Pulled into the Montville diner ordered a matzo ball soup. The waiter asked me if I wanted a cup or bowl. I said Bowl, I figure the bowl might have 2 matzo or more vegetables. He brought the soup out I was kind of shocked. Only 1 matzo , absolutely no vegetables with clear broth. Gotta say it was like it was a cup put in a bowl with more broth. I felt cheated. To make matters worse the matzo tasted somewhat spoiled,it was a matzo that was probably starting to spoil. When I went to pay, I asked the man what's the difference between a cup and a bowl? I told him I thought maybe the bowl would have two matzo, some vegetables and this was basically just a cup dumped into a bigger bowl and then cost more money. He said we used to put two matzo but now we just put one. I told him I was more disappointed because the matzo tested like it was going bad.., He didn't even apologize. Underwhelming. First off, no menu online. It's just odd because nowadays you really need an online presence to compete. Second, the food wasnt that great. I dont know if I just came in at a bad time? We came in on a late Sunday evening for pick up. It said 24 hours, but a paper sign saying we close at 1 am says otherwise. The food was eh. Boyfriend got nachos and I had a spinach salad and matzo ball soup. Mind you, I had to guess what menu items they did have since no menu online. My spinach salad had hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, bacon and raw mushrooms. The raw mushrooms really threw me off, ended up cooking them with an omelette a couple of days later. Not really sure if you can eat raw mushrooms. My matzo ball soup was very salty, ended up just eating the matzo ball which also didnt have much going on. My boyfriend said the nachos were eh. Nothing to write home about; very standard. Overall, it's just very...blah. Combined with the fact that there isnt a menu online and quality of the food, I dont think I'm going back any time soon. It's a shame, diners are always welcome in a town and can be a meeting spot and a wonderful place to hang out and get affordable, amazing food. Hope my next visit will be better. read more

This is a lovely diner I'm fortunate enough to call "local"! The people are so friendly, the food is delicious, and they are following COVID protocol. We were seated right away, attended to by two amazingly friendly people, and received our lunch in warp speed! I'm so glad my family and I can support family businesses like this during the pandemic. The paper menus are great and provide an extra measure of good hygiene! There is hand sanitizer at the front counter and all employees and management are masked up! They have a great menu which includes all of the classic diner hits, as well as a fun cocktail/bar menu featuring adult beverages like Orange Crush, Margaritas, and Cricket Hill beer (brewed right in nearby Fairfield)! This Taylor Ham sandwich was nice and warm, cooked just right and stacked with Taylor Ham. I love the huge portions and extensive menus which the Montville Diner does well. They have take-out, a full bar but no WiFi or delivery. You like lottery tickets and scratch-offs, you have come to the right place. Their Corn Beef Hash is about $8. Coffee is $1.75 and freshly made. The interior is bright and inviting with counter, bench and table seating just like a New Jersey diner should have. Now here is a real tricky question. Diners can be tricky to review because, even if everything goes right, it's still diner-quality at the end of the day. Still, I had a reasonably good experience at Montville Diner. I ordered the chicken wrap ($10.65) and shared an appetizer of disco fries ($6.55). I have never understood the appeal of disco fries. I get that they're an NJ diner staple, and they're... okay, I guess, but I prefer regular fries to disco fries. Regular fries don't have gravy and mozzarella cheese, but those things on fries are rather tasteless, anyway. The wrap, on the other hand, was very solid. Nothing special, but you can't really mess up grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The Italian dressing on the side complemented it the wrap well and the fries that came with the dish were perfect. (Way better than the disco fries!) My fiancée ordered the California burger ($5.75) cooked medium rare and it definitely looked worse than my wrap, but that's not my problem. I'd probably give three stars for the burger, but since that wasn't my order, I'm giving four! Service was fine, and even at 1 A.M. the wait staff was friendly and approachable. read more

Came here late night after enjoying some hookah lounge nearby. My friends and I came around 11pm for some munchies. Place was almost completely empty as the bar/clubbers were still out and about, drinking and dancing to their hearts delight. Our waitress was in her 40's and was really cool, she took the time to clown around with us and had a very colorful personality. She was a trip, humoring our idiotic behavior and entertaining us. I was feeling extremely hungry that night so I ordered an italian sausage omelette with mozzarella. It was a little too salty, but after you've been drinking a little you really don't mind these details. My buddy got scrambled eggs and french toast with powdered sugar, which was a way better choice. Ended the meal with a coffee to clear out the alcohol induced cobwebs. Total damage price wise was only $15 with tip. The biggest impression I have of this diner is that the employees were interesting people, talking about their favorite cartoons giving their impressions of them, just being some original personalities. read more
