Best bakery around!
Pat M.

I just noticed that it's been 9 years since I last reviewed Sorrento's. It's the easiest review to write since this is one of my top bakeries in NJ. I've stopped here to pick up lunch literally hundreds of times over the past 30 years or so. Sorrento's is as good now as the first time I went there, probably even better! The sandwiches here are outstanding! The quality of the ingredients is first rate and the prices are very reasonable. There's plenty of salads and soup here to go with the sandwiches also. The stars of the show here for me though are the bakery items. Whether it's the cakes, donuts, or pastries, I've never had anything here I didn't like. Some favorites for me are the Napoleons, Lobster Tail, Linser Tarts, and Black & White cookies. My wife loves the Red Velvet Cupcakes and the Cannolis. The Thanksgiving pies from here are always a huge hit. If you haven't been to Sorrento's Bakery, check it out. I'm planning on stopping here for many more years!

Red Velvet Cake Square

I had several additional baked goods from this spot. I once again had the St. Joseph pastry with cannoli cream (see previous review for similar thoughts). I also had a small tiramisu. It was nicely done. The cake was soft, and the entire portion was extremely light. It was a traditional dessert done right. I also tried a red velvet square cake. It was alright. I was not a huge fan of the cream cheese frosting, and the actual red velvet cake was a little plain. Overall, I am not usually a fan of red velvet flavored items so take that for what it's worth.

So I used to have a personal preference of never ordering sandwiches outside of a Hudson County deli, but this place floored me in the best way. Food: I ordered a roast beef and mozz sandwich which was surprisingly tasty. I add hot peppers instead of roasted red peppers which was also an insanely smart decision. Most importantly, the bread was outstanding. Aesthetic: Nice spread of package goods on shelves lined the floor that made its way to the deli area, and I love the fact that they have three separate areas which includes the deli, bread, and sweets/baked goods. Service: the guy who helped me at the counter was super cool and double checked with me while working on everything I ordered, which I greatly appreciate from a deli.

Wow and yes wow . A great real authentic Italian bakery in every sense. The Italian round bread was amazing and the Zeppole de San Giuseppe were outstanding. Although we live in Somerset County, we will again visit this great establishment. To the owners, 'Bella Cose'!

Coconut lemon cake

We received a coconut lemon cake during the holidays. The outside was decorated with lemon candies and coconut. The inside cake was fluffy and soft, the lemon pudding was not too tart and pretty standard. The frosting was a bit crumbly/very sweet, and the texture was a bit hard. I prefer frosting that is light, creamy, and not overly sweet. The coconut was a bit dried out. I would visit the bakery on my own and try something since the inside of the cake was promising.

How about a sandwich!

Excellent black-and-white cake, assorted biscotti and crumb buns. Also, plenty of parking spaces available.

Great selection of Italian pastries. We normally buy all the cakes for our celebrations at Sorrento.

Take the recommendation to heart - do takeout from Tony Boy's. Eating in is only if you feel like…read moreslumming it, or if you're starving. There's no restroom in the seating area (I'm sure they have one in the back) and the seating situation is super basic. I decided to eat in anyway, and the cashier very kindly brought me a paper plate with extra napkins. This drunk chicken sandwich (vodka sauce) was enormous; I knew right away that I'd have leftovers. The flavor was excellent. But I wish they wouldn't wrap the sandwich in foil like that. Not only does it look less appetizing, but I t really threatens to make the bread moist on the way to your house. Also I found the chicken a bit chewy. It is a bit out of the way, so there's plenty of parking when you get there.

Usually good, better than chain sub stores. Very disappointed today, eat in, and my guest was…read morepaying. I ordered chef salad, premade off the shelf. Do not order this if you do not like olives. I never got served olives on a chef salad. I was hoping for a salad matching their sandwich portions. Little tiny scraps of Ham and cheese and barely a bit of turkey. My guest ordered ham, salami & provolone Sandwich, requested mayo, no mayo. Also requested to heat in oven (warm sub popular in many places). They absolutely refused to serve a heated sub. I will make a can of tuna and dump it over salad for tonight, and she took sub to heat in oven at home. The employee at the counter could tell we were not enjoying this lunch ($40 total) but did not seem to care. I will not be back. I have given this location 5 stars in the past.

But with them serving up some seriously delicious eats you can bet I won't make that mistake again. Really cool retro vibes coming from this classic style Jersey Diner spot. It's not the biggest place by any means but they do offer a decent amount of seating options and if I'm being honest I didn't exactly come here to sit, I came to EAT!!  Lol. Also worth mentioning about The Cutting Board is right after ordering the second thing which I couldn't help but notice is that all along the windows are many different kinds of Salt and Pepper shakers proudly on display. It's quite the collection and an instant eye grabber. "C'mon Bill tell us about the food already" Okay, first time here I went with the Cutting Board Cuban Sandwich which came loaded with Black Forest Ham, Swiss Cheese, Spicy Pickles, Tomatoes, and Dijon Mustard all on a Rye Bread Panini. It was delicious in every way possible and I found myself very satisfied, not to mention very FULL as well. Lol. The staff I encountered were friendly & patient, which is shockingly not the norm these days! I ordered the tuna melt & fries & took a seat at the counter. I was the only one sitting along the counter, but there are also a few tables in the back that had parties at them. My food was ready relatively quickly & was served to me with a smile. The fries were of the steak cut variety, which aren't my favorite, but no fault of the delis - just my personal preference. They were cooked well & served hot - can't ask for much more! The tuna melt was actually a sandwich & not an open faced sandwich, as they tend to be, and I found that to be a pleasant surprise. Open faced tend to get soggy quickly. The tuna was aplenty & it was delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted & buttery as well. I do wish it was served with a pickle spear, though. Not sure if that's the norm & mine was forgotten or if it is not served as such. Either way, I'm obviously grasping at straws. Otherwise, it was a delightful lunch. I'm happy to have discovered The Cutting Board & even happier they are in the immediate area of my job, I will definitely be back to try more.
