I got the chicken salad roll up and wow was it delicious. But it was a whole lot of food. I only ate half, and since we were traveling, I couldn't save the rest. I wish they would've had a smaller bites menu. My bf got the cheeseburger and he couldn't get his mouth around it was so big. The French fries with it were the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. Give it a try, it's not all sweets. read more

This was a lot more than a bakery to my surprise. There were a bunch of tables to sit at along with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu along with lots of sweets. The staff was friendly and patient when we decided on what to order. Five items were tried, and each will be described below. Black & White Cookie ($4.50) - This was a traditional sweet that was done right. There was a nice balance of the chocolate and vanilla flavoring while the cookie was not too soft or hard. Chocolate & Vanilla Pretzel ($5.50) - This was very interesting. It was not overly sweet and was large. It was just a different type of pretzel. It was a tad dry, but not bad. Pumpkin Donut ($3) - This had a nice texture, but the actual donut did not have enough sugar I thought. The pumpkin frosting was just right though. Cinabun ($5) - This was very solid. It looked like it was going to be filling, but it was lighter than imagined. The cream cheese frosting was too much for me, but it had a nice texture. Swiss Chalet Wrap ($13.99) - This came with fried eggplant, arugula, tomato bruschetta, and a balsamic dressing. This was my favorite item tried, no doubt. The wrap was filled and nicely made with a good balance of the ingredients. The eggplant was fried ideally too. It was a well put together wrap. The coleslaw that was provided was plain, but there was much provided anyway. Will I go back? I would. read more

I ordered a sheet cake from Swiss Chalet and was happy with how it came out! I initially was looking into doing a custom round cake, but the process isn't exactly the smoothest. They aren't too receptive to getting pictures / talking out different ideas. In the end, the easiest option for something custom was to email a picture to be copied on to a sheet cake. The cake itself was delicious - the chocolate buttercream filling was rich and decadent. The actual cake could've been a bit more moist, but it was still really tasty. Prices are definitely high, but as expected since it's a locally owned bakery. A 1/2 sheet cake with some custom additions is around $150. Custom round cakes with fondant, tiering and more detail will run you $300+. The actual bakery is huge. I'd never been inside, but didn't realize there's also a ton of cafe seating, and a huge case filled with treats. I'd definitely consider again if I'm looking for a special occasion cake. read more

I came here with a friend in the afternoon on a Wednesday and it was pretty light. We both got dessert and I got a hot tea. I got the tiramisu mousse which was pretty good. She got the lava cake and they heated up for her. The drinks here are self-serve when you order it at the counter. Overall had a pretty decent time here. read more

The service was okay but the food was TERRIBLE!! I ordered a chocolate lava cake and vanilla cupcake; there was no lava (gooey chocolate) in the center, it was dry, but dense and completely baked and STALE! Same goes for the cupcake, the frosting to cake ratio was off and it was very stale. For both goods it had weird dry textures and tasted stale Made me wonder how long it was sitting on the shelf before I got it. So bad I had to throw it out, practically inedible. Safe to say I will never go here again- the grocery store is better because at least they don't display stale food. read more

I haven't been here in a while but I used to always come with my grandmother and get the elephant ear cookie, or a sugar cookie with a hot chocolate or tea! All their pastries I've tried were scrumptious and they have a lot of seating. Their staff was sweet and sometimes they gave us a free cookie! read more

The bakery goods are phenomenal! I always make it a point to get pastries and cookies from here. They have good coffee as well. And savory food options which are good for lunch or a quick bite. Bakery is definitely pricey and some of the sandwich options are on the higher end too. It's always bustling In here which is good and there are tons of dine in seating. The servers are always very friendly and answer questions nicely! The line to order layout is tricky though because even if you're not ordering bakery I think you're supposed to still follow the line for bakery. I'm not really sure sometimes I just stand at the register and wait. read more

Ordered a sheet cake from here and the cake was completely stale. This is the second time this has happened to us and we will not be ordering from here ever again. Extremely embarrassing to serve a stale cake and have people make comments about it. read more

I've gone past this place for years and had never gone in. The interior was larger than I expected and seemed very clean and comfy and cozy. I parked on street parking since the parking lot was full even on a weekday monday: I got the breakfast sandwich on a bagel and it was solid. Their cream puff was also yummy. However, the oreo supreme cookie had a stale texture and off taste/smell. The biscoff and chocolate mousse seemed good at first but the mousse was getting oddly stiff and was unappealing . Service was good. read more

Omg I was just in the bakery. I got a regular size cake 7 in out of the case A shadow cake they had the nerve to charge me $47. Is that outrageous I felt like going back and returning it. Needed it for an anniversary. Hope I hear from the manager to get my money back. It's crazy. I called and did talk to the manager. She said their prices went up but for $25 I could get this cake at another bakery unbelievable. read more

This is my go-to bakery while in Morristown. While it's listed as American, the European pastries do not disappoint. The flavor of butter and salt comes though on the plain croissant, which is also a bit chewy. We ended up with a few kouign amann on the counter of our office and it was a pleasant surprise. The cake was sweet and buttery, just as they should. I originally thought they came from Sook, but later found the top to the container. The egg custard tarts remind me of the ones I had in Lisbon, but not quite as good. The American styled donuts have decent flavor from the oil and yeast. The chocolate frosted ones are a bit too sweet; I usually try to get a sugared one for myself. Either way, a dozen donuts disappear at work within a few minutes. read more

Still maintaining their 3 stars. Picked a 9" tiramisu cake. THAT was excellent. But while I was at it, also got 4 mini cupcakes at $1.75 A PIECE!!! They were dry dry DRY!! I thought maybe it was because they came from the fridge so I let them come to room temp. Even worse. Thank God for the icing or I would've choked. Nevertheless, the tiramisu cake was delicious. The service is always crazy in here. So much staff because they're always socializing amongst themselves instead of being eager to help. That tip jar is just gonna stay empty. read more

This place used to be great. I ordered a 50th birthday cake. When we picked it up, the back and top was not finished. They did fix it immediately. The cake was dry when we did cut into it. I used to ordered cakes from them for parties over the years but we had problems with either the design or the filling not being correct. I know remember why I do not use them anymore. I would go somewhere else, at least when you order a cake for a special occasion. read more

Something sweet and Something savory before we hit the road. Yum! There's no shortage of places to eat while hanging out in Morristown, NJ. Sometimes though, you just wanna snack on something tasty to hold you over before you head out. Well, that's what today was, and we satisfied our cravings with a quick Lorraine and a blueberry crumb pie at Swiss Chalet Bakery & Cafe. To be honest, did eating here transport me to the hills of Switzerland... no, but it has an open ambiance, great outdoor seating, and a clean atmosphere; also, the tasty treats made for a yummy midafternoon meal. The mini quiche Lorraine was savory, buttery, flakey, and flavorful which surely put a smile on my face; while the blueberry crumb pie was sweet, crumby, and a perfect compliment for our precious dish. All around, I'm glad we stopped in and look forward to tasting more delicious treats in the future. Yum! Do not go here if you expect good service. The staff ignores the customers as the customer line grows and this is in the morning when you are trying to get to work. The food is decent but for the price you have to pay, one would expect better service from the staff. There are a lot of better places you can go in Morristown. read more

I have gone here so many times and a loyal customer to this fine and beautiful establishment The bakery is TOP NOTCH. I've gotten a few cakes for special occasions and they even make them gluten free. Hands down the best gluten free cakes I've ever had All the baked goods have yet to amaze me. Being a paisano I love my tri colors. They do it better than any I've ever had and not even Italian. Same goes for the cannoli. All the speciality pastries I've ever had have never been short of perfect. Now. The food?? ALSO A KNOCKOUT. Every meal I've had there has been spectacular. If you're a sweet potato fry lever I don't think you'll have a better one than their's. The staff is so friendly and helpful. It feels like a home atmosphere. Def make your way here read more

Went to check out their GF options and they had 4 cupcake options, prepackaged cookies, a cake and muffins. Definitely some risk of cross contamination since everything is next to everything else (and on shelves below gluten that could fall) so just something to be aware of if you're celiac. We split a vanilla cupcake and it was very tasty. Free water is available as well but you have to ask for a cup. read more

Quality has slipped; prices higher (that happens); great coffee but dont be in a rush; management no longer cordial. Bakery has gone downhill!!!! Cake was very dry and tasted old. Will not order from them any longer. Original owner was terrific!

This little gem in Morristown is worth every penny. Croissants: incredible - so soft and light on the inside but with a nice texture on the outside. You should probably eat them within 2 days but I doubt they'll last that long. The chocolate croissant was also spectacular - not too sweet. Cake: Tiramisu cake presentation and taste were amazing. Again, not too sweet for a dessert and the crunchy lady fingers in the outside are a nice touch to combat the soft gooey inside soaked lady fingers. Cupcakes: they're HUGE, next time will try to mini cupcakes. These were very sweet however but perfect for my niece who loved the butter cake frosting. The place was packed for a Thursday morning, a lot of locals getting breakfast items which we'll have to try next time. Happy yelping! read more

The Swiss Chalet Bakery as been a Morristown institutiion for five decades. They open at 7am and serve breakfast and lunch while still offering a large variety of in-house bakery items. Their breads and rolls are baked fresh every morning and include: French, Irish soda, bagels, challah, croissants and scones some baked in a brick oven. The designated coffee bar serves cappuucinos, expresso, lattes small $3.75 and a large $5, decafe and regular coffee. Pastries are plentiful, as well, like danish, donuts, muffins, tarts, cannolis, eclares, strudel, Petit Fours, Napoleons and cream puffs. This review is about my last visit. My niece who is now 3 years old was celebrating her birthday so I brought her favorite cake. The cake I bought was a cake with lemon layers and coconut outter covering ($28). The cake was moist and delicious and others seemed to enjoy it as much as she did. The Swiss Chalet offers elaborate decorations, one of a kind wedding cakes, special holiday cakes, etc.. You can choose butter cream or fondant. A 8" cake ($8-$12), and a 12" cake costs ($25-$35). read more

This is a breakfast review only... the food was just BAD! Very expensive and very disappointing. Swiss Chalet has such great bakery items and Cakes. Wanted to try their breakfast thinking it would have the same standard... it was very disappointing. Ordered 3 scrambled eggs, maybe was given 1.5 very disappointing. It definitely wasn't 3 eggs on the plate. Bacon was extremely salty and over cooked. The silverware looks like it's from the 70s very old and they keep it in a bin by the other condiments laying down not even standing up. Very dirty. Service and people were friendly. Only reason this review didn't get a 1 star. Definitely won't be back for breakfast food. No pictures were taken because it was too disappointing. read more

So many choices!! I tried to get something new each time I visited since I am from out of town and everything was delicious!

I have only ever ordered cakes and cupcakes from here and they're always delicious! My baby shower cake was from here and it was carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and it was the best carrot cake I've ever had! For my father in law's birthday, I had purchased a chocolate cake with peanut butter mouse and it was so decadent! Most recently, I had gotten a cake for my son's baptism. It was vanilla cake with chocolate fudge and vanilla buttercream. It was very good but the vanilla buttercream was a little too sweet. The only issue I've had with this place is when I call to order, it's always very loud and difficult to hear the person taking the order. Overall, I recommend! read more

I didn't expect french fries this good at a bakery! We came for lunch. I love that they serve on real plates with real silverware. Lots of seating, inside and outside with umbrellas. Fetch your own food when the beeper goes off, ours came out super quickly. All sandwiches are about $12 and up, add fries and a soda for $6. My vegetable Panini was stuffed with eggplant and mozzarella, delicious but difficult to eat. My dining companion's Texas burger was loaded with cheese, sliced ham and bbq sauce, a huge meal, also a bit tricky to bite into. Bought white bread to take home, $5 for a very plain pullman loaf, I think it will make a decent sandwich. read more

Prices are way too high for the quality. I ordered a slice of cake and a lobster tail. The only good (using term loosely) thing about it was the cream inside the tail. Everything else tasted like the refrigerator. Stale and not woth the money or the calories. A friend and I have eaten lunch here on several occasions both last year and this year and each time something is lacking. Whether it's waiting for one of the many people behind the counter to come to the register, the lack of a large menu to read without holding up people at the register, having our coffees completely forgotten by the staff, not having simple self serve bins full (today there was no sugar in the bin) the high prices and subpar food. We will not be back. Lunch was so bad today: The turkey in my turkey wrap tasted highly processed and slimy and my friend's tuna salad wrap was very bland. There was no time to speak with a manager because we had a medical appointment to keep. We each left half our lunches behind. Also, the music was too loud to have a relaxing conversation. read more

For being known as a "bakery" the desserts are absolutely HORRIBLE. They make them look so delicious. Then you bite into one and they are stale and either tasteless or just bad.
