I'm not usually a cupcake person. So many of the bottoms are dry and crumbly, and I'm not a huge fan of frosting, but it's tradition to pipe that mountain of frosting atop every cupcake. So I was sure I was meant to go through life as a cupcake hater, but someone brought a half dozen of Crowley's to a party. Color me surprised. The strawberry shortcake cupcake was wonderfully moist on the inside, and I didn't feel the need to scrape off half the frosting like I do with most cupcakes. The person who brought these to the party also said they'd kept these in the fridge for quite a few hours before the part, so I was surprised as how moist they'd stayed in spite of the chill. Right down the block from Madison bagels is Crowley cupcakes. The appearance of this shop caught my eye, and I had a sweet tooth, so I had to walk in. Large variety of cupcakes, and if I could, I would have bought more, but no reason to over indulge. I can always come back when I'm in the area again. I bought a brownie cup cake and a lemon cupcake with a sugar cookie and frosting with cinnamon sugar. Both tasted very fresh, and you can tell they were made the same day. The inside of the shop is pleasant looking. Neat and inviting. The staff was welcoming. Next time around, I will try something different from this shop. read more

Crowley has a large selection of cupcakes to choose from, seems like there's something for everyone. My son had a hard time choosing just one, but ended up going with the hostess cupcake. It's covered in chocolate with a marshmallow filling. Needless to say, he devoured it. I had a little bite and the cake was moist and spongey. Because they usually disappoint in the flavor department, I try to manage expectations. A friend served these at dinner last night and I smiled politely before my first bite but man-oh-man do they live up to the tiny perfection of their appearance. Light, airy cake, both chocolate and vanilla-based -- already pretty unusual. But some with added surprise touches of chips or sprinkles in exactly right proportions. And the frosting, just...WOW. Holy Toledo. Fluffy clouds of delicate buttercream, not a hint of greasiness or grinding sugar!!! With actual flavor of fruit in the strawberry and lemon and vanilla in the white toppings. My dream frosting in precisely the right amount relative to itty-bitty cake size. Remarkably, as tiny ones tend to quickly stakes, they are tasting just as amazing the next day, as I type this. Plus, the ones I passed over last night, thinking "meh, blue frosting, that'll be unbearably sweet" or had other reservations about? Uniformly delicious!!! Do I sound ridiculously fulsome about mini cupcakes? Yes, yes I do. But only because these are probably the best I've had in a decade (of many, many cupcake trials), in ANY size. I ventured to Crowley Cupcakes this snowy Christmas Eve, filled with excitement and anticipation. I had heard lots of merry things about this spot, and the line nearly out the door led me to believe I was in for a real treat, or five or six. Seven cupcakes to be exact. Not 7 fishes, but 7 cupcakes. They certainly looked delectable, iced and decorated beautifully. The first taste of frosting was quite good, and would have put a big smile on Frosty the Snowman's face, but what lay beneath was some of the driest, least tasty cake I have ever sunk my teeth into, and the only flavor it provided was almost acrid. A mini pumpkin pie for over five dollars was completely inedible, and landed in the trash after one bite. A couple of Snickerdoodle cookies were tasty enough, but far from the best I've ever had. Ordered a birthday cake for my son. I asked them to make a custom cake. I wanted a chocolate cake, with Nutella frosting in the middle and chocolate Ganache on top (my son loves chocolate obviously!). I was very pleasantly surprised when placing the order. Very polite, quick and accommodating, said the combination would be no problem. It's hard to perfect icing and they have the recipe, I think I would pay a bit for it. The Chocolate on chocolate cupcake can't be beat. But my son adores the M&M , Chocolate Chip Cookie and Oreo. Our family of 6 happened to stop nearby for lunch while driving on our vacation. We walked by on the way back to our car and decided to stop in. We purchased a half dozen of the mini cupcakes and we all agreed they were one of the best cupcakes we ever had! I had a tough time choosing what flavor I was going to have, as they all looked so good. I ultimately chose the Chocolate Cherry and it was amazing! The rest of the family had a special Shark bite that they were offering at the time, Smores, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a Gluten Free Vanilla. My daughter with the Gluten Intolerance said it was hands down the best Gluten free cupcake she's had. Very moist and not as dense as others she's had. The staff was very friendly and prices are comparable to other bakeries we've been to. I only wish we lived closer! Store interior is cute enough, but they just had two big refrigerated cases (a la Italian bakery style) for their display - didn't really look too appealing. Cupcakes are similar to Crumbs in style and flavors, which is not really my cup of tea. I selected a mini red velvet - the cake was moist enough, but the buttercream was so thick and hard from being too cold in the refrigerated case that it was inedible. Cupcakes were amazing, honestly the best I've had in a long time and will definitely be back to get more to bring home. I took a star off for their in-store dining experience. I came in with my toddler daughter and asked for cupcake to eat in store. They literally placed the cupcakes on the counter with no plate or fork. When I asked for a plate they actually didn't have any, or a good place to sit. Despite that I would still definitely recommend the place just not for eat in. read more
