I was walking in the park across the street and decided I deserved a little treat, but unfortunately, I was very disappointed with everything I purchased. The bakery itself is beautiful--well-lit with a wide variety of options--but sadly, everything I tried tasted stale. The cupcakes and push pops were incredibly dry, and the frosting tasted like it had been left out for days. They are getting the second star strictly off of delivering a quality cake last year for my daughters 1st birthday. This year, it was almost criminal how they over charged us and the quality was pretty bad. We ordered a cake for 8 people and the cost was $82. Again, since they did such a good job for our babies first bday we went along with it. When we saw the receipt, they charged us $35 to add "bananas" to the design!! This is straight up robbery! We should take this up w Millburn Police over Yelp! Again, if the cake was delicious I would've let it go but it was dry and pretty bland. Never again! Great customer service!! I was leaving the park because it was getting cold. I decided to get some hot chocolate. Walked across the street and right into Splurge. The pink exterior called me in. They don't have hot chocolate, but since there was a kids party going on, and they had a hot chocolate bar the nice guy behind the counter offered me some. So kind! Based just off that, I had to try some of their baked goods. Lots of cookie bars and cake pops. Beautiful tiered cakes. St. Patrick's Day cookies and other themes. So disorganized you will be lucky to get your order on time and made correctly. Very dirty place. Takes forever to order with the owner because she can't think properly. Will start talking to other people while you are on the phone with them and get distracted like a dog who saw a squirrel. Too expensive for what you get. When it comes to ordering a specialized cake, there aren't a lot of options nearby. I'm very grateful for Splurge. They make beautiful specialized cakes and they taste very good. I ordered a birthday cake less than 2 weeks in advance for my son's 2nd birthday. I showed them a picture of what I wanted with some edits, and they definitely delivered. I was late to my pick up time due to unrelated issues, and this was not a problem. I easily found parking right in front of the storefront and they brought the cake to me, I didn't even have to get out of my car. They gave me some instructions about the additional pieces to put on as well to not refrigerate given the timeframe. I ordered chocolate with raspberry filling and am very pleased with the flavor and the way the cake looked. Minus one star because they didn't respond to my emails but were great at picking up the phone. read more

The presentation was lovely. This is the 2nd cake I ordered from them. The first time it was very dry. But I figured I'd give it another try. I even told the girl on the phone last time it was very dry. Assuming it was either stale or just over cooked. She assured me they would make it fresh. So needless to say I was a little upset since the cake it was over $50 and very small. They really need to work on that. If it was moist I would not mind paying the money, since it was pretty. This place is off the beaten path. If you're not looking for it, you might miss it. But once you find it, you'll be glad you did. I have been there twice and have been more than satisfied with their confections. First time I got a chocolate covered strawberry which was to die for. I also purchased a raspberry pecan crumb bar, s'mores bar and a cookies 'n cream bar. The bars were so fresh. The s'mores bar had so much marshmallow oozing out. I think it was my favorite. The cookies'n cream bar had chucks or chocolate it it. My second trip I got the s'mores and cookies 'n cream bars again and a lemon curd bar (was recommended last time saying it was made right there) and a blondie. I ate half the blondie. Also so good as the other two. The lemon curd bar was not my cup of tea. The lemon curd was good but the base was just too dry for me. The are also know for their cakes and other confections. This is definitely a bakery to stop by and try. I've found my new "sweets" location in Millburn. read more

Soooo disappointing... I needed a cake for my husband's 30th birthday and asked them to make blue ombre cake I saw in their Instagram. You can see at the photos what I get as the result. My relative picked it up, and he didn't know how I expected it to look. The cake looked not bad, but IT'S NOT AN OMBRE CAKE! I don't see a point paying $55 when you don't get what you want. And it was the design they advertise! Also it was way too sweet, pure sugar. My guests barely had finished their slices. Not to mention I've spend almost 40 minutes in the bakery when I was making an order, waiting when the staff would have time for me, carrying infant in my hands. Ordered 10 custom sugar cookies for a baby shower. The cookies are definitely satisfactory, but for the price I was expecting more care in the decorations. Also the cookies themselves are small and very very thin. I was expecting them to look more like the cookies they have displayed in the shop and I was a tad disappointed to have paid over 60$ for something that was not very custom or decorative. Walking in to the place, you are met with bright colors and appeasing sights. And to the right is an open kitchen... you can see your treats being made. Plus it is the perfect spot for a kid's b-day party... or classes- which i believe are offered. Let's get down to the cupcakes. They have normal sized ones, and mini ones for a dollar each. I got a ton to sample and share. My faves included their red velvet and vanilla frosted chocolate cake. Also- not to be missed are their Hostess cupcakes. Chocolate cake filled with a dab of vanilla frosting, topped with chocolate ganache and the white squiggle. Yum! They keep their desserts very cold, but I recommend (if you can) letting them sit out, so that the buttercream gets soft... then they are magical. read more

This place is a joke. I don't see it lasting much longer, unless they get on a reality tv show, which by their decor (a knock-off of The Pop Shops theme) looks like they're trying to do so. There's no menu up in the place, it's online. What i found odd was that a menu wasn't even neccessary. Considering they ONLY had cupcakes. Not even a variety!! Here's the run down; chocolate cake (white/chocolate icing), vanilla cake (white/chocolate/pink icing), and red velvet...that's it (oh and mini's too)!!! Now, let's get to the cupcake itself. HORRIBLE!! Not soft, icing had WAY to much cream cheese, and i swear you can get a better cupcake from your local grocery store. In all fairness though, the service was great.
